ANAYA -- Mary C. Anaya died January 12, 2005, at age 75. She was a member of the St. Vincent des Paul St. Francis Xavier Conference, American Legion Post 13 Auxiliary, and a life member of the DAV, chapter 3. She is preceded in death by her sons, Alfonso Garcia, Art Valadez, and her grand-daughter Jenny Valazdez. She is survived by her son, George Garcia, and wife Olivia, her daughter, Mary Valadez, her two adopted sons, Rigo Martinez and wife Jo'an of Tucson Arizona, and Bobby Lugo and wife Armida of Downey California, siblings, Rose Chadd, Teresa Lopez and husband Orlando, Pula Sandoval and wife Mela, three grandchildren and Five great-grandchildren. A rosary will be recited on Monday the 17th at St. Francis Xavier Church at 7:00 p.m.; The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday the 18th at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at San Jose de Armijo Cemetery. BLACK -- Carla Renee Black, 41, passed away Friday, January 14, 2005. She is survived by her husband, Ron Black; sons, Ronnie Jr. and Tyler; parents Livorio and Lily Silva; sister Janet; sister, Theresa Riddle and husband Bill; and many other close family and friends. Carla was born in Los Alamos and has spent the last 22 years in Albuquerque. Carla was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, niece, friend, and neighbor. She was loved by many and will be missed. Memorial services will be held 10:30 Monday, January 17, 2005 at Eagle Rock Worship Center 7518 Oakland on the corner of Oakland and Wyoming. CHAVEZ -- Ernest R. Chavez, Jr. (aka Gooney) went to be with our Lord on January 14, 2005. He was 18 years old. He is survived by his mother, Cynthia Gutierrez; and father, Ernest R. Chavez Powerman. Mr. Chavez is also survived by his grandmothers, Mrs. Nora Gutierrez and Mrs. Maria R.O. Chavez; numerous aunts; uncles; cousins; and friends. He loved his girlfriend, "Bianca." Ernest is also survived by his pet dog, Harley. His interests were Cadillacs, theme parks, board/video games and spending time with his cousins who were like his brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Conception; his daughter, Kathy and husband, Harry Laycock; his son, David and wife, wife Peggy; seven grandchildren, Christopher and Joe Laycock; Shawn, Joshua, Anthony, LeeAnn, and Shannon Chavez; three great-grandchildren, Desiree Laycock, GiaVanna and Victoria Gonzales; and a fourth great-grandchild due in May 2005. He served his country for thirty-one years in the United States Army, and retired as a Command Sergeant Major. DELAO -- Elma M. DeLaO, 78, a resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, January 14, 2005. She is survived by her sons, Chris DeLaO of Albuquerque, George DeLaO and wife Janis of Albuquerque, Richard DeLaO and wife Marti of Ventura County, California; daughter, Yvonne Huisinga and husband Ronald of Phoenix; sister, Mary H. Fava and husband Joe of Rio Rancho; grandchildren, Daniel, Fabian and wife Alicia, Ryan and wife Tyler, Michael, Patrick, Teri, Deanna, Jenna; sister in law, Patsy Garcia; and 16 nieces and nephews. She was employed at the Luby's on Juan Tabo until it closed. She was a loving mother and devoted grandmother who will be missed by her family and friends. GALBREATH -- Dorothy Louise Dennis, age 78, a long-time resident of Albuquerque, left this life on Thursday, January 13, 2005. Dorothy will forever be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and strong loving spirit, always putting others before herself. She is survived by her devoted husband, Otis "Jim" Killian of Albuquerque; her four daughters, Charlee Galbreath of Tijeras; Gaylynn Abram and husband, Mike of Fairfax, VA; Cynthia "Janet" Fitzgerald and husband, Tim of Reedsport, OR; Pam Schmille and husband, Chris of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Jason O'Brien of California; Benjamin and Lauren Abram of Virginia; Hoyt and wife, Alicia Schmille of California, and Seth Schmille of Albuquerque; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Additionally, she is survived by brothers, Calvin Dennis of Boulder, CO, and Wilbur Dennis of Kemp, TX; and sister, Yvonne Peacock of Odessa, TX. Dorothy was preceded in death by brothers, Odell and Emmett Dennis and her beloved sister, Hazel Wagenknect. Dorothy retired from Sandia National Laboratories after many years of service. She was a Life Master at duplicate bridge, an avid Lady Lobo supporter, and loved dancing and listening to music. GILBERT -- Elizabeth (Bettie) F. Gilbert, 81, died peacefully on December 17, 2004 at home on Bainbridge Island, WA. She was born to Arthur and Helen Frazier on December 31, 1922 in Providence, RI, the oldest of five children. She graduated with honors from Chester High School in Chester, MA. She attended the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI. While attending RISD Bettie had a radio show called "Bettie Buyer" where she advised folks on cooking and grocery shopping during WWII. She was married to Daniel C. C. Gilbert, architect, in 1944 and lived in New York City and Scarborough, NY. While raising a family she bought and sold antiques and eventually opened the Flintlock Farm Antique shop in Briarcliff Manor, NY. In 1971 she moved her family to Henniker, NH and bought and operated the Colby Hill Inn for 5 years before becoming the switch board operator at Concord Hospital. In 1989 she moved to Albuquerque, NM where she worked at New Mexico's Technical Vocational Institute and assisted hearing and visually impaired students with taking notes during class. She retired in December 2003. In July of 2004 she moved to Bainbridge Island, WA. Beginning at a very young age she wrote award-winning poetry and fiction. She was a fine painter, sketcher, and wood carver. She enjoyed helping others, especially children, bird watching, walking on the beach, and all the beauty that this planet holds. She loved traveling to Scotland and other parts of the world. She is survived by her brother, Richard Frazier of Coventry RI; her sister, Marion McNiff of Warwick, RI; her son, Daniel F. F. Gilbert of Wilmot, NH; her daughter, Tina H. C. Gilbert of Bainbridge Island, WA; her grandson, Aiden Gilbert of Henniker, NH; her granddaughter, Claire Koutras of Keene, NH; and many nieces, nephews, and surrogate children. She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Arthur Gilbert of Concord NH; and brothers, Jack Frazier and Wesley Frazier, both of Providence, RI. She touched the hearts of all she met and will be remembered forever by all she knew. "She loved her life on this small planet." E. F. GONZALEZ -- Vidal Trujillo, age 81, lifelong resident of Garfield and of Sierra County, passed away of natural causes on January 13, 2005 at the family farm. Mrs. Gonzalez retired as a schoolteacher and a was graduate of the University of New Mexico Class of 1944 and spent 30 years in the Dona Ana and Sierra County school system (Arrey). She is survived by her husband, Santiago (Jim) Gonzalez; one son, Benjamin Gonzalez, both of Garfield; two daughters, Dr. Deena J. Gonzalez of Los Angeles and Dr. Rita V. Gonzalez of Las Cruces, Her brother, Victor Trujillo of Deming, and sister, Teresa Cordova of El Paso, mourn her passing. Other survivors include numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and former students. Her parents, Tomas T. and Juanita Garcia Trujillo and one sister, Phyllis Ruiz preceded her in death. GUERRA -- Margaret Prince Guerra, 59, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, peacefully passed away at home after a 5 1 /2 year battle with mantle cell lymphoma. She died with her family present on Friday, the 7th of January, 2005. Margaret (Margo to her friends and family) was born on February 24, 1945 in Arlington, MA. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Bill Guerra Sr., her sister, Dorothy Son; her brother, Jack Prince; her daughter, Gigi Guerra, her son, Bill Guerra Jr., his wife, Marisa Romero-Guerra; and her grandchildren, Marty Guerra, Phaedra Guerra, and Aden Guerra. Margo, an energetic, passionate woman, had many pursuits in life: library founder and patron, avid voter, traveler, volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society, volunteer cook for the homeless, volunteer knitter for the Merchant Marines, PTA President, PTA volunteer, Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout Den Mother, Laubach Literacy Tutor, National Honor Society member, skiier, swimmer, wolf alter-ego, herb gardener, wilderness camper, golfer, prankster, and practical joker. She was also a craft lover and enjoyed quilting, sewing, calligraphy, crocheting, knitting, basket-weaving, cross-stitching, crewel embroidery, candlewicking, punch tin ornaments, wreath-weaving, macrame, painting, photography, quilling, stamping, greeting card making, oil painting, watercolor painting, charcoal, pastels, silkscreening, wood block printing, jewelry making, and silversmithing. HANCOCK -- Dee Hancock, 92, died peacefully at home on January 7, 2005. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, W. Lee Hancock and a granddaughter, Sarah Marin Lenz. She is survived by daughter, Jerri D. Hancock and granddaughter, Erika Lenz. Dee was born in 1912 in Poteau, OK, the fourth of five children, to Lily & Lemuel Durden. After graduating high school, she moved to Atlanta, where she put herself through college at Emory University by working as a secretary at the Federal Bureau of Investigations. In 1941, she married Lee, who was a special agent in the FBI. They settled in Albuquerque in 1955 and lived for many years in Corrales. Dee taught 3rd grade and was active in adult literacy and tutoring children to read. She volunteered her time to many civic projects, was a patron and supporter of several local artists, and traveled extensively around the world with her husband. She also had an avid interest in Asian gardening and created an authentic Zen garden at her residence, which she shared with many people. She will be fondly remembered for her inquisitive mind, independent spirit, and accumulated wisdom. Cremation will take place. Private interment will be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. JIRON -- Reyes Jiron, a native of Isleta Pueblo, was called home to be with her savior on January 12, 2005. She was 96 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband, Remijo Jiron; daughter, Rose Jojola, and son-in-law, Freddie Zuni. She is survived by one daughter, Margie Zuni of Albuquerque; five grandchildren, Greg Jojola of Longmont, Colo., Sheila Jojola of Isleta Pueblo, Lloyd Jojola of Albuquerque, Raymond Zuni of Albuquerque, and Tonya Billings and her husband, Terry, of Albuquerque; and four great-grandchildren, Ashley Zuni, Lane Gatewood, and Isaiah and Megan Billings. LEVESQUE -- Leona L., 85 went to be with the Lord on January 15th, 2005. She was born in Fall River, MA; and resided in Somerset, MA before moving to Albuquerque, NM in 1970. MARTINEZ -- Marlene Serna "Mom Sis" Born January 29, 1950, passed away January 13, 2005. She is preceded in death by her loving parents, Ernesto and Frances Serna; her husband, Genaro Martinez; and her brother, Amado (Mitch) Serna. She is survived by her children, Annjanette Serna of Albuquerque, Andrew Sanchez of Albuquerque, Celeste Martinez of Albuquerque, and Adam Martinez of Albuquerque; two grandchildren, Ashley Arellano, and Andre Sanchez; six sisters, Angela Baca, Annette St. Martin, Dorothy Rodriquez, Sylvia Abbot, Irene Maldonado, and Lucille Serna; three brothers, Ruben Serna, Alex Serna, and Ernest Serna; and many wonderful brother and sister-in-laws; nieces; and nephews. Her courage and endurance to the end will never be forgotten. MILES -- CAPTAIN FLOYD P. Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 17, 2005 at Church on the Move for Retired Captain Floyd P. Miles, age 85, of Roswell, who passed away January 13, 2005 at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center. Retired Pastor Monroe Miles, who is Floyd's uncle, Pastor Randy Reeves of Washington Avenue Baptist Church and Pastor Curtis Harding of Church on the Move will officiate the services. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, January 16, 2005 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel. Floyd was born August 29, 1919 in Endee, NM to former Governor John and Susie Wade Miles. Gov. Miles served from 1938 until 1941. They have preceded him in death, as well as his wife of 37 years, Darlene Mitchel Miles and three sisters: Edna Green, Mildred Adams and Peggy Henrie. On October 14, 1997, Floyd married Meredith Campbell in Carrizozo, NM. She survives him. He is also survived by his son: Ronnie Miles and his wife, Pat of Roswell; his daughter: Jana Miles of Portland, Oregon and her mother, Floyd's former wife, Janice Lumsden of Albuquerque, NM; three grandchildren: Preston Miles and Kelsey Miles, both of Roswell and Michael Miles of Portland, OR; three brothers: Wade Miles and his wife, Sara of Tucumcari, Floyds' twin, Lloyd Miles and his wife, Betty of Belen, NM and Franklin Miles and his wife, Pat of Santa Fe, NM; stepchildren: Bob Brunner of Jacksonville, FL, Gary Corman, Cyndi Mitchell and Jeannie Corman, all of Roswell, and Dale Corman of Ruidoso, NM and their spouses; step-grandchildren: Megaan, Lacy, John, Sam, Steve, Chris, Laine, and Will. Floyd considered all Law Enforcement Agencies throughout New Mexico to be his extended family. Floyd joined the New Mexico State Police on December 15, 1941, his first duty station was Port of Entry detail. In 1942 he was assigned to the Motorcycle division and later transferred to Santa Rosa. In 1955, he made Sgt. And was transferred to Ft. Sumner and later to Alamogordo, then to Farmington. In July 1959, he made Captain, and transferred to Socorro, Gallup, and Clovis, and then Roswell. He served 40 years on the force, and retired in Roswell in 1981. A gentle soul who loved his God and family has left us. He had been the oldest living State Police Officer in New Mexico. Pallbearers will be the State Police Honor Guard. Honorary Pallbearers will be the State Police Brotherhood and all his many friends. MUHLBERGER -- Max T. Muhlberger passed away on January 12, 2005. He was born August 10, 1939 in Gary, Indiana, the son of Josef and Mary Muhlberger. His parents and twin brother John precede him in death. Survivors include: Joseph, brother; Antonia, sister-in-law of Albuquerque; Maurice Yarter, brother-in-law of Seguin, TX; Claude Yarter, brother-in-law of Las Cruces; Mary Muhlberger, niece of Dallas, TX; Joe Muhlberger, nephew of Albuquerque; Tom Muhlberger, nephew of Albuquerque; and John Muhlberger, nephew of Dallas, Rosemary Neitzel cousin of Brookfield, WI; Louise Lamb, cousin of Scottsdale, Az and Erine Moser, cousin, and other cousins of Gary Indiana. He was grand uncle to Andrew and Evan, children of Joe and Linda Muhlberger. He was also Godfather to Petra Strausser of Oviendo, FL, the daughter of Tony and Rose Feliciano. Several things were of great importance to Max: home, food, and his pickup truck. He was also an avid collector of audiovisual equipment. But most of all, he really enjoyed being with his nephews, the family, and grandchildren. He spent several years in the Motion Picture industry managing Brotman/Sherman theaters in Chicago. He also worked at D&K Laboratories as a production technician. He served two years in the US Army as a Food Service technician. He and his brother John owned the 5th Avenue Food Market in Gary for 12 years before coming to Albuquerque. While in Albuquerque, he worked at Farmers Market and Southwest Distributors before working in Facilities Maintenance at La Vida Llena and the Enclave Apartments. Friends may visit French Mortuary at 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE from 4-6 PM on Sunday and participate in the Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary at 7 PM. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at John XXIII Catholic Community, 4831 Tramway Ridge at 11 AM on Monday, January 17, 2005. NEAGLEY -- Earl C. Neagley, 83, died Thursday, January 13, 2005. A resident of Albuquerque since 1962, Earl was born in Pittsburgh, PA. He served in the Navy during WWII. In June,1948 he married Wanda Fleece. He worked as a machinist in Harrisburg and at GE in Albuquerque. After retirement he was an avid gardener and tennis player. He was a member of the Steelton-Swatara Masonic Lodge. Earl is survived by his wife, Wanda; son and daughter-in-law Daniel Neagley and Sue Spaven of Albuquerque; sister and brother-in-law Margie and Kay Crosbie of San Diego; brother and sister-in-law Dan and Peggy Neagley of Harrisburg; and several nieces and nephews. NEWMAN -- Charles (Charlie) Edward Newman, 81, died peacefully on Saturday morning, January 15, 2005. Charlie was a long time resident of Albuquerque. NORDSTRUM -- Marian L. "Sis" Sis died January 10, 2005. She was born January 6, 1919 in Chicago, IL to Edwin C. and Myrtie E. (Rowlett) Lovett. Most of her early life was spent in Garden Grove, IA where she met and married Stanley C. Nordstrum on March 19, 1936. They farmed until 1964, moved to Santa Fe, and later to Albuquerque. Her children, who all survive her, are Olive "Gussie" Williams of Mackinaw City, MI, Mary Brooks (Glen) of Albuquerque, Bob Nordstrum of Albuquerque, and Doug Nordstrum (Marj) of West Des Moines, IA. Proud grandmother of Kevin, Brian (Laurel), and Eric Williams, Kristi (Wes) Lane, Angie (Chad) Niederhauser, Matt Nordstrum, and Patrick Nordstrum. Very proud great-grandmother of Isabelle and Hudson Williams and Hayden Niederhauser. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Grace and Mary Ellen Lovett. Preceding her in death were her parents; her beloved husband; grandson, Mark Brooks; son-in-law, Gary Williams; brothers, Doug and Bob Lovett; brothers-in-law, Arnold Lovett, Bob and Frank Nordstrum; sisters-in-law, Barbara Lovett, Hazel and Katie Nordstrum. Sis will also be missed by numerous other relatives and friends. She became an Honorary Alumnus of St. John's College of Santa Fe; a lifetime member of the Presbyterian Hospital Volunteers where she was known for handmade stuffed animals, and a first class cookie baker for all. A devoted 66-year member the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter AL. Keeping in touch with family and friends by letter was her lifelong passion. Marian resided for the past 2 1/2 years in the Assisted Living Unit of the Montebello Retirement Community where one could always hear the clicking of her typewriter. The family is very grateful for the outstanding care, love and concern provided by both the Montebello staff and Ambercare Hospice. Cremation has taken place. RINI -- S. Jack Rini, 89, died peacefully after a short illness in the early morning of Sunday, January 9, 2005, at his residence at Montebello Senior Living Community, where he was twice president of the Resident's Association. He lived for many years in Los Chavez, NM, moving to the state from Memphis, TN, in 1977. S. Jack was born the son of Anna Lichtenberg Rini and Martin Rini on July 29, 1915. He was raised in Cleveland, OH. In 1936, he married Marjorie Herman who preceded him in death in 1980. He graduated, with his lifelong friend the late Edward Dyble of Albuquerque, from John Marshall High School and Case School of Applied Sciences (now Case Western Reserve) in Cleveland with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. He did extensive graduate work at the University of Chicago in chemical engineering of vegetable fats and oils. His career took him from Amazo in Hammond, IN, to Lever Brothers in Whiting, IN, and Boston, to Kraft Foods in Chicago, and then to Memphis where he was Vice President of Research and Production at Kraft's Humko subsidiary there. He was an emeritus lifetime member of the American Chemical Society which he joined in 1943. He was elected to the American Institute of Chemical Engineers in 1949, and was an emeritus member of the Institute of Food Technologists. He was Director of the League for International Food Education from 1970 to 1982. His other interests included the Boy Scouts of America and bird watching. He was also the major investor in New Mexico's Century magazine in the early 1980s. His patents and inventions in food technology include "the Rini process" which makes margarine spreadable, and a chemically engineered solution to the problem of the "French ring," the circle of congealed material around the opening of French dressing bottles. He was an avid traveler, exploring the back country of America with his family, and traveling around the world and visiting as much of the planet as he could. He was a scholar and student of history and politics and the southwest. Mostly, he enjoyed his friends and his family. He was a profoundly loyal and generous parent, grandparent, and friend. His family misses him more than they can express. He is survived by children, Jacqueline Rini Fuqua, James P. Rini, and Rini Price and her husband, V.B. Price, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Christopher H. Fuqua of Albuquerque and Marshall R. Fuqua and wife, Jeri of Madrid, Iowa; by step-sons, Jody Price and Keir Price of New Jersey; and by one niece and many nephews. TOMLINSON -- Erik Tomlinson, 41, a life-long resident of Albuquerque, passed away suddenly Sunday, January 9, 2005. At the time of her death she was self-employed. WEBB -- Albert N. Webb, 57, passed away on the eve of his 58th birthday by accidental drowning. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia T. Webb; sons, Dr. Samuel Webb of Menlo Park, CA, and Benjamin Webb of Albuquerque; daughter, Megan Teegarden; and grandson, Samuel Teegarden, both of Longmont, CO; sisters, Joy Webb Crowe, Janice Webb Marshall, and Jeannie Webb, all of GA; niece, Dr. Andrea Hardin; and 20 devoted nieces and nephews. Albert was a graduate of the University of New Mexico and was an executive engineer for Johnson Controls Incorporated for 28 years. He was a longtime resident of the East Mountains who had recently moved to Placitas. Albert was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend who was an honored and respected leader of his spiritual community. A private passing over ceremony will be held.
