BIERNER -- Roland B. Bierner went home to be with the Lord on March 13, 2005 at the age of 75. He was born on December 16, 1929 in Monticello, NM. Mr. Bierner was a member of St. Anne's Church Choir. He is survived by his sons, Jimmy Bierner and wife, Eva, Marshall Bierner, and Barry G. Bierner and fiance, Virginia Sigala; daughter, Merlin G. Black and husband, James; brother, George Bierner and wife, Betty; sisters, Gladys Bragg and husband, Gary, and Lela Chavez and husband, Pete and his granddaughter, Raeleen Bierner Garcia and husband, Jeremy. He will be deeply missed by all. A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m. also at St. Anne Catholic Church. Burial will follow at San Jose de Armijo Cemetery. CHAMBERLIN -- Maria Theresa Urrea Chamberlin, 73, a lifelong Old Town resident, passed away March 9, 2005, after a brief illness. In death, as in life, she was surrounded by her large, loving family. Maria, a descendent of the Duran y Chavez family which founded Old Town in 1706, was the daughter of Francisco and Rosalia Duran Urrea. Maria was one of the original founders of Old Town as it is known today. Best known for her retail business, Sand and Sun, she and her husband, Don, developed Plazuela Sombra in Old Town. Maria is survived by her husband of 42 years, Don Chamberlin their son Steven and his wife, Susan, her brother Francisco Urrea Jr. and his wife Alberta, and her three sisters, Emelia (Millie) Santillanes and husband Vidal, Isabel Mondragon and husband Roberto, and Carmen Christian husband Gene. Maria is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Maria's life with a Memorial Mass to be held Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at San Felipe De Neri Church in Old Town followed by interment of her cremated remains at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum at 1:00 p.m.

CHIORDI -- Michael John Chiordi, 62, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, March 12, 2005. He is survived by his fiance, Cathy Fernandez of Santa Fe; children, Michelann Tachibana and husband, Wes of Grapevine, TX, Angelus Person and husband, Gary of Albuquerque; and their mother, Helen Corcoran of Albuquerque; and grandchildren, Malachi, Anikin, Jasmine, and Trevor; and brother-in-law, Charlie T. Jones. Mr. Chiordi was preceded in death by his parents, John Siro Chiordi and mother, Sophie Rose Chiordi; and sister, Carol Ann Chiordi-Jones. He was Executive Vice President of Southern Wine and Spirits of New Mexico. Mass will be celebrated Thursday, 11:00 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 619 Copper NW, with Father Edward Domme, Celebrant and Father Edmundo Rodriguez, S.J., Con-Celebrant. GABALDON -- MARY C. GABALDON, 101, of Cile, NM, died Sunday, March 13, 2005, at St. Joseph Nursing Home in Louisville, KY. She was a former school teacher and homemaker and a member of the Legion of Mary. She was preceded in death by her former spouse, Ted Gabaldon and her daughter, Marilyn Gabaldon. She is survived by four daughters, Lillie Gabaldon, Dora Garcia, Esther McMahon (Jim), and Shirley Folland; four sons, Ted (Carmen,), Ray (Gloria), Manuel (Corrine), and Joseph Gabaldon; a sister, Josie Gallegos; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchil-dren. Cremation was chosen. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Little Sisters of the Poor, 15 Audubon Plaza Drive, Louisville, KY. There will be no visitation. GATHINGS -- Nedra F. Gathings, 71, beloved mom, grammy, and resident of Albuquerque since 1956, died Saturday, March 12, 2005. She is survived by her son, Darlan Rusch Gathings; daughter, Desiree Rachel Gathings and husband, Fredvic L. Zabala; grandson, Robert Brandon Zabala; granddaughter, Daisy Raquel Gathings Leon, all of Albuquerque. Nedra was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert O. Gathings on November 29, 2002. She was born in Hot Springs, AR in 1933. She attended and graduated from Fisk University in Tennessee where she received her Bachelor's of Science. Nedra was a social worker at Bernalillo County Medical Center (BCMC), then became a volunteer worker and homemaker while she raised her two children. Nedra was active in the NAACP and participated in lobbying efforts for Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity in Employment. She volunteered for many years at Presbyterian Hospital and served as President of the Women's Auxiliary. Nedra also volunteered for a number of years at the Rio Grande Chapter of the American Red Cross and served as Chairman of Volunteers. She was an active member and served office in various community organizations including Board of Prestige of BCMC, Las Amapolas Garden Club, New Mexico Symphony Orchestra, and National Council of Negro Women. Nedra also had a deep devotion to Trinity United Methodist Church, where she served on many committees including Committee on Lay Leadership, Pastor Parish Relations, Trustees Committee, Finance and Education Committees and Co-Chaired the Vision 2000 Campaign. She will be missed by all who knew her. Cremation has taken place, and a Memorial Service will be held Thursday, March 17, 2005, 11:00 a.m., at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3715 Silver, SE with Reverend Tom Beach officiating. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 3715 Silver SE, 87108, to establish a scholarship fund in Nedra's name. GONZALES -- Guillermo Gonzales, 74, a resident of Albuquerque (originally from Mora, New Mexico) went home to be with our Lord on Saturday, March 12, 2005. He was a friend to all, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Rafael and Emilia Gonzales, and brother, Laurencio Gonzales. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Angie; four daughters, Diana Lueras, Joanna Salcido and husband, Larry, Grace Baca, and Noreen Gonzales; two sons, Ray Gonzales and wife, Lizabeth and Gary Gonzales and wife, Cecilia; 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; one brother, Florencio Gonzales and family; three sisters, Laura Madrid, Arcilia Jewell, Dolores Garcia, Rosa Martinez and their families; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. Guillermo was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean War. He enjoyed fishing, carpentry, sports, telling jokes and attending his grandchildren's games and performances. He was a great example to all of those whose lives he touched. He will be greatly missed. GONZALES -- Manuel Gonzales, 84, a resident of Los Lunas and formerly of Albuquerque, was called home by our Heavenly Father, Saturday March 12, 2005. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Gonzales and son, Paul Gonzales. Manuel is survived by four sons, George Gonzales and wife, Carmen, Elieto Gonzales and wife, Sharon, Oliver Gonzales and wife, Joan, Manuel Gonzales, Jr. and wife, Laura; two daughters, Dora Montoya and husband Fred, Carmen Gonzales and fiance, Marvin; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers; five sisters; nieces, nephews, and other family members. Visitations will be Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. till the time of the Rosary in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary, where a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Final viewing will be Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. in the Chapel of the Alameda Mortuary. LOVATO -- Fred W. Lovato, age 92 and a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 10, 2005. Fred retired in 1973 from Sandia National Laboratories. He loved going to Pecos and staying at home with his wife, Frances. Fred is survived by his only daughter, Linda Lovato-Montoya; his son-in-law, Martin Montoya and granddaughter, Victoria Montoya; many nieces, nephews, and very special friends also survive Fred. In particular, Fred {Nino) had eight nephews whom he considered his sons, Leroy Barboa (wife Theresa), Lee Joe Anzures (wife Helen), Alfonso Anzures (deceased), Pat Anzures (wife Johnna), Mike Anzures (wife Ginger), Frank Anzures (wife Cathy), Fred Anzures, and Sam Anzures (wife Penny). Memorial Services will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 619 Copper Avenue., NW, with the time and date pending. LUCERO -- Alice Lucero, 69, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 8, 2005, at her home. Alice was born January 22, 1936, in Willard, NM to Max and Frances Tenorio. She was preceded in death by her mother, Frances Tenorio; son, Gerry; and her husband, Pat Lucero. She is survived by her sons, Simon and Steve Lucero, of Albuquerque, NM; and daughter, Karen Gallegos, husband Norman, of Rio Rancho, NM; her many brothers and sisters, Aneda Mora, husband Ben, of Los Lunas, Joe Tenorio, of Albuquerque, NM, Rita Padilla, Los Lunas, NM, Stella Gutierrez, husband Charles, of San Diego, CA, Dimas Tenorio, Albuquerque, NM, Frank Tenorio, San Antonio, TX, Margaret Abeyta, husband Gilfred of Veguita, NM, Janice Quintana, and her special "darling" Nathan Garcia. She was a member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, was active in the Senior Prayer Group, she enjoyed working at the polls during the elections. MAISH -- Alexander Bourke Maish, 49, died Friday, March 11, 2005. He is survived by his son, Benjamin; his parents, Dr. Alexander M. and Elizabeth Maish of Arlington, VA; and his sister, Darby Maish Woolley of Austin, TX. Alex was preceded in death by his twin brother, Fred, of Albuquerque. He was an avid outdoor enthusiast, community leader, and outstanding engineer. Valedictorian of his high school, he graduated from Princeton University and earned a Masters Degree at the University of Virginia. Alex was employed at Sandia National Laboratories for 25 years in the field of photovoltaics where he pioneered systems for solar concentrator arrays, and in robotics where he worked until his death. He struggled his entire life with cystic fibrosis, spending great amounts of time mentoring young people with the disease, writing articles in CF journals, and serving as president of the Cystic Fibrosis Roundtable. In spite of the debilitating effects of the disease, Alex managed to backpack, ski, sail, and travel. His favorite haunts were the canyons of southeastern Utah, where he spent many a vacation backpacking, and the British Virgin Islands, where he captained large sailboats. His love of adventure took him as far as the Orient, to Latin America, and to Europe many times. Memorial Services celebrating Alex's life will be held Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at 5:00 p.m., at St. Thomas of Canterbury Episcopal Church, 425 University Blvd. NE. MARES -- Gina J. Mares lived life to the fullest to the age of 55. She opened her heart to everyone that she met and was a wonderful friend to all that knew her. A proud mother to her two boys, she can rest peacefully knowing she was a faithful daughter, beloved sister, devoted godmother, and trusted friend. Gina retired in Las Vegas, NM with Isaac Gold, Jr., of Las Vegas, NM, after working for 20 plus years for the City of Albuquerque. Everyone joked that no matter where she went, she always ran into somebody she worked with at the City. She and Isaac shared a wonderful home filled with love, lots of plants and her beautiful knickknacks she loved to create when not working at Luna Community College in Las Vegas. She gave her all to the students and co-workers at Luna who loved to pass by her office to admire her flowers or those who just sat down to talk. Or maybe it was to marvel at all the jewelry she was famous for wearing, and how she made it all match so perfectly. She is survived by her mother, Lucy Dominguez; her sons, Raymond and Isaac Mares and their father, Ray F. Mares, of Albuquerque, NM; brothers, Jerry Dominguez and wife, Nancy, Richard Dominguez, Danny Dominguez and wife, Silver, and Marvin Dominguez; sisters, Angela Sedillo and husband, Pablo Sedillo III, and Michelle Satterfield; as well as many nieces, nephews, and godchildren. A Rosary will be recited at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 1860 Griegos Rd. NW, on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. A second Rosary will be recited at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, NM on Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Sorrows Church the following day at 11:00 a.m. Pallbearers, standing and honorary, will be Pablo Sedillo III, Carlo Sedillo, Pablo Sedillo IV, Gary Gold, Dennis Gold, Rodney Gold, David Michelback, and Jimmy Silva. MARQUEZ -- Rose E. Mrs. Rose E. Marquez, 66, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on March 9, 2005. Mrs. Marquez is survived by her three daughters, Inez Lopez and husband, Steve, Margaret Sanchez and Filiberto, Betty Marquez de Meza and husband, German. Mrs. Marquez is also survived by two sisters, Orie Martinez, Angela Montoya and husband, Herman; one brother, Andy Hubina and wife, Sylvia; seven grandchildren, Stevie and wife, Theresa, Rosemary and husband, Benny, Jose and wife, Christina, Angelic and husband, Josh, Daniel, Victoria, and Gabriella; six great-grandchildren, Isiah, Alyssa, Elias, Alexus, Erica, and Jacob; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mrs. Marquez was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Marquez. Mrs. Marquez was a member of the Catholic Church. A Rosary was recited Monday evening at Santuario de San Martin Catholic Church, by Gabriella Nieto. A final visitation will be Tuesday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at San Martin Church with Mass of the Resurrection to be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. by Father James Vance. MARTINEZ -- Frances G. Martinez, a lifetime resident of Santa Fe, joined our Heavenly Father on March 9, 2005. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Leo and Jo Martinez of San Diego, CA; her daughter and son-in-law, Yolanda and Ben Garcia of Bosque Farms, NM; and her grandson, Martel Martinez and his fiance, Lea Ames of Tehachapi, CA. Frances was preceded into eternal life by her grandson, Christopher Roybal; her husband, Tony C. Martinez; and her sister, Rosina Krause. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary Gonzales, Fina Rivera, Tillie Gonzales and her husband, Albert; and by her brother, Mike Garcia and his wife, Corrine; her nephew, Louis; nieces, Marsha, Antoinette, Susie, Patricia, Emelia, Kathy, Donna, Lorraine, Bernadette, and Mae Jean; and numerous great-nieces and -nephews. She will be remembered for her dauntless spirit and her cheerful and kind disposition to those around her. Her family gratefully acknowledges the many kind and sincere expressions of sympathy offered by so many. At Frances's direction and request, no formal services or ceremonies were held. MARTINEZ -- Rufino Martinez Sr., a resident of Albuquerque, went to be with the Lord, Friday, March 11, 2005 at the age of 77. Rufino was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served in WWII. He is survived by his son, Rufino Jr. and wife, Ida; two granddaughters, Gerlene and Leslie; two great-granddaughters, Monique and Shantel; two brothers, Selez and Raymond; one sister, Bene Devine; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who loved and will miss him. Memorial services will be held at St Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 816 Broadway Blvd. SE, on Wednesday, March 16, 2005. MCVEETY -- Raymond Thomas McVeety passed away on Friday March 11, 2005 at the age of 89. Raymond was born on July 12, 1915 in Scobey, MTand grew up in Bemidji, MN. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Agricultural Engineering. Raymond married his wife of 63 years, Abigail Warren, on July 3, 1941. He served during WWII in the 671st Army Engineers Map Making Unit. Raymond was an engineer with Allis-Chalmers in La Crosse, WI, from 1945 to 1952 and played the cello in the La Crosse Symphony. He moved his family to Fern Creek, KY where he continued his work as an engineer with Reynolds Metals Company in Louisville. Raymond, Abigail and their family moved to Albuquerque in 1956 where he worked as a mechanical engineer at Sandia National Labs until his retirement in 1981. Raymond is survived by his wife, Abigail of Albuquerque, and their five children. They are: Debby McVeety More and husband Andy, their children, Christopher and Ashleigh, of Tijeras NM; Tom McVeety, of Albuquerque; Hope Suzanne McVeety and partner Jim Buchanan of Albuquerque, Dr. Roderick Kelm McVeety and wife Dodie, and their children Mollie, Trevor and Kailey of Corrales NM, and Dr. Bruce Douglas McVeety and wife Renie, and their children, Kelsie, Megan and Raymond Thomas of Dublin, OH. Raymond is also survived by two sisters: Carol Riemen of Albuquerque and Pat Wagner of Sandia Park, NM. Raymond and Abigail are longtime members of the Sombra Del Monte Christian Church. "For God so loved the world,that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Throughout Raymond's lifetime, the relationships with his wife, children, grandchildren and other family members gave him his greatest joy. He shared in their accomplishments and had a steadfast belief in the good of all men. His generosity and kind spirit touched each person he came into contact with, leaving all with fond memories. The Family would especially like to thank the 6th floor Staff, Medical and Nursing Teams at UNM Hospital and the Staff at Manor Care Camino Vista for their compassionate treatment and care in the final weeks of Raymond's life. RODGERS -- Opal F. Morlan Rodgers, 84, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2005. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 30 years, Edwin Rodgers. She is survived by her nieces, Ruth Blackwell and family of Texas, Annette Switzer and family of Virginia; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Pat Rodgers of Albuquerque. She was born September 17, 1920 in El Dorado Springs, MO. Opal was a member of the Sandia Baptist Church. RODRIGUEZ -- ALFONSO BARTHOLOME RODRIGUEZ (AL), born on August 24, 1922 and returned to the Lord on March 12, 2005, surrounded by his loving wife, daughters, sons, and grandchildren. Alfonso (Al) passed away after a six month battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents: Erineo and Ramoncita Rodriguez; brother, David; sisters: Melinda Bias, Maria (Demesia) and husband, Saturnino Hernandez, Genoveva and husband, Antoino Rodriguez. Al retired from AFL-CIO as an International Representative, where he tirelessly worked for the workers rights amongst the Carpenters, Lumber Mill, Ironworkers, Hospital and State workers across North America. During his final years he worked for the rights of Union Workers in South America and Puerto Rico. Al was loved and cherished by everyone who knew him and will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife, Alice G. Rodriguez; son, Charles (Chuck) Rodriguez and wife Charlene (Char), Chuck's son, Jared and soon to be wife Roseanne Ruiz and great-granddaughter, Sierra; daughter, Mary Ellen Flores and husband Martin and grandchildren Andrea and Martin Jr.; son, Dennis Rodriguez and grandsons; Brian and Christopher; daughter, Melinda Wedemeyer and husband Robert (Bob) and granddaughters, Cassandra (Cassie) and Annalise (Lise); daughter, Annette Brumley and husband Mark and grandson, Gabriel Alfonso Rodriguez. Alfonso's brother, Higinio and wife Elisa Rodriguez; his sisters: Maida Duran and husband Feliberto and Martha Jones. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and many close friends and loved ones in Las Vegas. Visitation will begin on Tuesday, March 15, 2005, 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at Berardinelli Family Chapel. A Rosary will be recited Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Nelson's Funeral Home, 801 Douglas Ave, Las Vegas, NM. Another Rosary will be recited Wednesday, March 16, 2005, 7:00 p.m. at Cristo Rey Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 17, 2005, 11:00 a.m. at Cristo Rey Catholic Church. ROGERS -- Raymond N. Rogers of Los Alamos died March 8, 2005 after a long illness. He was born July 21, 1927 in Albuquerque, NM. He spent his youth in California and, after his father died, he contributed to the family income as a trumpeter with local bands. He also became chief chemist at an oil refinery at age 15 when many positions were left open during the war. In 1945 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a radar technician during World War II. The GI Bill allowed Ray to complete his education at the University of Arizona in chemistry. His expertise in thermal analysis brought him to the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory in 1951. He became a group leader of an explosives research-and-development group there and was elected Laboratory Fellow in 1981. He later worked for the International Technology division, retiring in 1988. He served on the Department of the Air Force Scientific Advisory Board from 1987 until 1992 with the equivalent rank of Lt. General, receiving their Distinguished Service Award. He received other awards and recognitions from LANL and professional organizations. He was granted a sabbatical in 1968 to pursue post-graduate studies in archaeology. He was appointed Director of Chemical Research for the Shroud of Turin Research Project in 1978, applying thermal methods to the study of this relic. In recent years, he further researched material relevant to the dating of the Shroud, publishing his findings in Thermochimica Acta. He has also published popular articles on dogs and firearms as well as papers on chemistry, archaeology/anthropology, soil science, and energy. He has served as an expert witness on several legal actions. Dogs, particularly Maud and Brenda, were his friends as well as his teachers throughout his life. Since his retirement, Ray was an active member of Mountain Canine Corps and participated in many search and rescue efforts. Other major interests were backpacking, hiking, photography, marksmanship, archery, music, and ham radio. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Scott. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joan; daughter, Amy Canzona and her husband, Tony; step-daughters, Dawn Janney and Lauren McGavran and her husband, Harry; grandson, Kenneth; great-grandson, Mark; cousin, Bob and other family members; many very special friends; and coonhound Clancy. A memorial service will be held in Los Alamos on June 11, 2005. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to any reputable animal shelter or ethical group that promotes interracial understanding.

SIMONDS -- MARGUERITE MCKOY. Services for Marguerite Cecelia Simonds, 94, of Oklahoma City, OK, formerly of Stonewall, OK and Albuquerque, NM, will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at the Criswell Chapel in Ada, OK, with Rev. Bob Langston officiating. Burial follows at Highland Cemetery in Stonewall. Mrs. Simonds died Friday, March 11, 2005, at Oklahoma City. She was born February 5, 1911, in Stonewall, OK, to John Hershel McKoy and Cecelia Burris McKoy. Her grandfather, Colbert Ashalotubby Burris, was a Methodist preacher and full-blood Chickasaw Indian. After graduating from Stonewall High School, she received her Bachelor of Arts and Science degrees from East Central Teachers College in Ada, and then obtained her master's degree from the University of Oklahoma. Mrs. Simonds started her teaching career when she was 19, teaching both elementary and high school in Stonewall. She married Isaac E. Simonds in April 1932, and the couple moved to Bowlegs, where for the next four years she was the principal of Allen School at Bowlegs and worked with the Seminole Indian children. Later she was re-assigned as a third grade teacher at Taylor School where her husband was principal. They later moved to Clovis, NM, where she was an elementary school teacher and was assigned to train student teachers from the University of New Mexico and St. Joseph's College. In 1941, her husband joined the Army Air Corps, and they moved to Fort Bliss, TX. After several re-assignments, they moved to Dodge City, KS. where she worked at the air base. After military service, they moved to Albuquerque, NM, which became their permanent home. She retired from the Albuquerque school system. She later moved to Oklahoma City and was resident of Epworth Villa. Mrs. Simonds served as president of the Albuquerque Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority and helped sponsor the organization of the Beta Chapter. At the University of Oklahoma, she was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, an honorary art fraternity. At East Central Teachers College, she was a member of Pi Kappa Sigma, a sorority which later became Chi Omega sorority to which she was initiated at the age of 83. Her hobbies included painting, writing, bird watching, and sewing. Mrs. Simonds was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Isaac Simonds in 1979; two brothers, George Colbert McKoy and John McKoy; and one sister, Lanelle Bassett. Survivors include one sister, Laura Heatley and her husband, Robert, of Oklahoma City; three nephews, Edward Allen, Stonewall, Gerald R. Allen, Enid, and John Raybourn Allen, Russellville, AR; one niece, Cecelia Gosting, Dallas, TX; and several grand-nieces and -nephews.

VERSHINSKI -- Genevieve (Klopotowski) Verchinski, 89, of Albuquerque, formerly of East Hartford, CT, passed into eternal life on Wednesday, March 10, 2005 in Albuquerque, NM. Genevieve was the beloved wife of Paul. P. Verchinski (d. September 30, 2004) for 61 years. Genevieve was born July 28, 1915 in Greenwich, CT, the daughter of Zofja Omelanczuk from Granne, Poland and Joseph Klopotowski of Tonkiele, Poland, both deceased. She was the granddaughter of Zuzanna (Zagubien) and Vincenty Omelanczuk and Joseph Klopotowski and Aniela (Kobylinska) of the diocese of Pinska and the parish of Drohyczyn, Poland. Genevieve and her husband lived in East Hartford, CT for 40 years before moving to Albuquerque, NM in 1992. As a young girl she lived in Hartford, CT, graduated SS. Cyril and Methodius Parochial School in 1928 and graduated Hartford Public High School in 1932. She was a stenographer for Underwood-Elliot Fisher Co, a secretary for the Federal Government Office of Price Administration and Petroleum Administration; also secretary for Travelers Insurance Co, Coca Cola Bottling Co, and Pratt and Whitney Aircraft from which she retired in July 1981. Genevieve was a communicant of SS. Cyril and Methodius Church, Hartford, CT, were she was a member of the SS. Cyril and Methodius Church Rosary Society, and exemplary President of its Ladies Guild. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Polish Legion of American Veterans Post #119, the Polish Cultural Club and the Polish National Alliance. In 1989 for her works of charity amongst the Polish community, she was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the United Polish Societies. Both she and her husband worked on major assistance drives for the poor and destitute during the Communist rule in Poland, sending literally tons of clothing to the needy and raising and providing funds to support orphanages, and schools. She was a benefactor/founder to the Tarnow and Lososinie Dolnej Catholic churches in Poland and Our Lady of Czestochowa National Shrine in Pennsylvania. Throughout all of these charitable endeavors they still maintained a deep love and support of their children and ensured that each son graduated from college. She leaves three sons, Paul and his wife, Therese Verchinski of Columbia, MD, Thomas and his wife, Mabel Verchinski of Southington, and Stephen Verchinski of Albuquerque, NM. She leaves five grandchildren, Beth Ann, Peter, Kara, David, Jason; and a great-grandson, Joel Thomas Gard. She leaves a nephew, John Klopotowski of Florida. She also leaves a dear friend and loving caregiver, Patricia Lakes of Albuquerque. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul P. Verchinski; and by a son, Thaddeus Verchinski; her sister, Helen Thurz; and brother, John Klopotowski. A Rosary will be recited Wednesday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. A wake will be held at South Green Memorial Funeral Home on 43 Wethersfield Ave., Hartford, CT from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Friday, March 19, 2005. WALKER -- Elizabeth. Mrs. Elizabeth Madonna Haley Walker, 78, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on March 13, 2005. Mrs. Walker is survived by three sisters, Irene Bates of Chillicothe, IA, Melvina Campbell of Baton Rouge, LA, and Eunice Rutledge of Bogard, MO; one brother, Roy Haley and wife, Clarice of Chillicothe, MO; special friends and care takers, Rafaela and Miguel Gomez and sons, Michael Gomez, Adam and wife, Celina Gomez and Mario Gomez; many other family members and friends. Mrs. Walker was born September 3, 1925 to Earl and Olive Haley in Chillicothe, MO. She graduated from Chillicothe High School and worked at Mtn. Bell Telephone Company for over 36 years before retiring. She has been a resident of Albuquerque since the mid 1940s. Elizabeth will be missed by all her family and friends. WELLS -- Robert A. Wells, 69, a resident of Los Lunas, died Sunday, March 14, 2005. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Wells of Los Lunas; sons, Daniel J. Wells of Winchester, ID, Robert A. Wells of San Diego, CA, and Gregory Gensen and wife, Valerie of Belen; daughters, Debra J. Wells of San Diego, CA, Janice Owens and Annette Norris, both of Los Lunas, NM; grandchildren, Justin Stovall and wife, Skye, Sabrina Owens, Greg Gensen II, Brandi Gensen, Savannah Patrick, Lacie Norris; sisters, Wanda Gipson of Los Lunas, NM, Ida Mae Stevenson and husband, Jerry of Sanger, TX, and Juanita Pierce of Edmond, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Elsie Wells and a brother, Daral Wells. Mr. Wells was retired from the US Navy with over 20 years of service. He was a Korean Conflict and Vietnam veteran. After he retired from the Navy, Mr. Wells was a semi truck driver. He also worked in real estate for 13 years with Bosque Realty in Bosque Farms and Village Realty in Los Lunas, retiring in November of 2000.
