SANCHEZ -- Panfilo (Pompi) 84, born 1920, went home to be with the Lord March 2, 2005. Panfilo was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque NM and a WWII veteran; he served in the South Pacific and in many islands with exotic names, such as Vela La Vela, New Caledonia, Guadacanel and many more. He was on the way to the invasion of Japan when the war ended; he was also a life long member of the DAV. Panfilo was a dedicated fire fighter for 25 years at Sandia, Kirkland A.F.B. He is preceded in death by his parents, Julian and Carmen Sanchez; and by a younger brother, Albert Sanchez. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary Ann Sanchez; sons, Raymond Sanchez and wife, Yvette and Victor Sanchez and wife, Christina; daughter, Carmen Schobey and husband, Glenn; granddaughters, Jennifer Sanchez and Jocelyn (Grasshopper) Schobey; brother, Julian Sanchez and wife, Agnes; sisters, Ida Rippberger and Viola Sanchez and husband, Frank; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was an avid outdoors man, hunter and fisherman. Pallbearers will be Mariano Flores, Peter Sanchez, Julian Paul Sanchez, Julian Sanchez, Tony Martinez, and Ray Gallegos. Honorary Pallbearers are Raymond Sanchez, Victor Sanchez, Carmen Schobey, Glenn Schobey, Jennifer Sanchez, Jocelyn Schobey, Frank Sanchez, Little John, and Donald Sanchez. A Rosary is to be recited on Sunday March 6, 2005 at Salazar & Sons Mortuary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Ascension Church at 10:30 a.m. on Monday March 7, 2005.
