ALDERETE, JUAN age 97, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 14, 2015. To his large and distinguished family, he left a legacy of ambition, of the entrepreneurial spirit and of success. Our Dad, Juan Alderete was born September 3, 1917, in Chilili, NM. His father, Abran, obtained land in Escobosa, NM through the Homestead Act of 1919, and his mother, Concepcion Maldonado Alderete was a Chilili Land Grant heir. As a young boy, our Dad enjoyed riding horses on his family's ranch in the East Mountains of Albuquerque and in his heart and manner of dress, he was a "Cowboy" through and through! Juan demonstrated his love for learning throughout his life. He finished first in his class in the eighth grade, and upon this foundation, went on to found a successful business, A & A Electric Company in the early 1960s. He had a smile that lit up a room and his beautiful blue eyes would sparkle with his wit and laughter. As an Atrisco Land Grant heir, he will be buried at San Jose de Armijo Cemetery. Juan is survived by his four children, Frank and wife, Rose, Carmen, Rosalie, Elizabeth Ann and husband, Bart; brothers, Salvador and Federico; grandchildren; great-grandchildren-great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and all who love him dearly. He was preceded in death by his son, Sam in 2005. Visitation will be Sunday, January 18, 2015, from 2:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 3:00 p.m. by Deacon Michael Wesley. Final visitation will be Monday, January 19, 2015, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Church of the Ascension Catholic Church, 2150 Raymac SW with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the San Jose de Armijo Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and great-grandsons. Once he was asked, "what was his advice to live a long and healthy life? "his answer was, "to read everyday, work hard, and keep moving!" He enjoyed daily walks on the ranch and tending to his garden. An avid reader of the daily newspaper, he was always well informed on current events, happening both locally and around the world. He was proud of his Basque heritage and of being a member of one of the founding families of Albuquerque, NM. A man of great dignity, our Dad and his life will inspire future generations for years to come, and his legacy will live on. Please visit www.gabaldonnortuaryinc.com to sign the online guestbook.
