Gillespie -- Robert S."Bob" Gillespie, age 88, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2003 at his home in Albuquerque, NM, where he was a resident for 54 years. Bob was born in LeMars, IA and after graduating from the public school system, attended Western Union College in LeMars. He graduated from the University of Illinois and later earned an advanced degree from the University of Iowa. He served in the US National Guard, followed by more than three years in the US Army. He was assigned to a Submarine Command serving overseas in the Mediterranean area and the Middle East. He was honorably discharged from the Army with an American Defense Service Medal and an EAME Campaign Medal with a Bronze Star Good Conduct Medal. Bob and his wife, Virginia moved to Albuquerque in 1949 when he became a member of the faculty in the Department of Journalism at the University of New Mexico. After several years with the University, Bob took a position with Sandia Laboratories as a Technical Writer. Following a fulfilling career, he retired from Sandia in 1977. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Virginia Fleck Gillespie of LeMars, IA and Dallas, TX. Other members of Robert's family to precede him in death were Dr. James B. Gillespie of Champaign, IL; and sisters, Katherine Troxler of California and Marion Templeman of New Mexico. He is survived by his daughter, Virginia C."Ginger" Gillespie and son-in-law, William"Biff" Thompson of Albuquerque; and son, Charles S. Gillespie and his wife, Frances of Stagecoach, TX. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Nathan and Kaleena Thompson of Albuquerque and Katherine and Rachel Gillespie of Stagecoach; nieces and nephews, Connie Coates, Kathy Watkins, John and Joan Templeman, and Bill and Barbara Templeman of Santa Fe, Ginger Troxler of California, James and Emily Gillespie of Florida, and Emily Henry and Robin Troxler of Massachusetts. Also surviving are many great-nieces and nephews and many loving friends in Albuquerque, most especially Don and Dora Sylvester, Bob Vales, and Rev. Harold Trott. Graveside Services will be held at Santa Fe National Cemetery on Friday, August 29, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Mark's On The Mesa Episcopal Church, 431 Richmond Place NE, on Saturday, August 30, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made in memory of Bob Gillespie to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 710 West 168th St, New York, NY 10032. Bob was a very special man and was deeply loved and will be missed very much by all that had the pleasure of knowing him. He left on the wings of an Angel, placed gently in the hands of God. Center -- Lizzie Gallegos Center, age 71, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, born November 4, 1931 in Albuquerque went to be with our Lord on August 25, 2003 after suffering from heart failure. A devout Catholic, she was a member of Queen of Heaven Parish. She was preceded in death by her father, Nick Gallegos; and her mother, Antonia Gallegos. She was a loving and generous person who would help anyone in need, and was loved dearly by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, William Center; son, Billy Center; daughter, Joan Marentes; granddaughter, Yvette Marentes; grandson, Eric Marentes. A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, August 27, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. at Queen of Heaven Parish, 5310 Claremont Ave. NE, Albuquerque, NM. Mass will be held Thursday, August 28, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Parish. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Schwartz -- Mr. James F. Schwartz, 61, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on August 22, 2003. Mr. Schwartz is survived by his loving wife, Diane of 37 years; two sons, Zachary Schwartz and Michael Thomas Schwartz and wife, Angela; five sisters, Elizabeth Peterson, Barbara Bollinger and husband, Gordon, Kathy Fry, Margie Harris, and Rita Schwartz; five brothers, William Schwartz, Richard Schwartz and wife, Leslie, Louis Schwartz and wife, Barbara, Greg Schwartz and wife, Kathleen, Jerry Schwartz and wife; two grandchildren, Makayla and Kaiden Schwartz; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Schwartz was a member of the Catholic Church. Birkenfeld -- Carol Birkenfeld, Nazareth, Texas. Funeral Services for Carol Birkenfeld, 66, of Nazareth will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 27, 2003 at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Nazareth with Father John Kodankandath officiating. Mr. Birkenfeld died Sunday, August 24, 2003 at his home in Nazareth following a lengthy illness. He was born March 2, 1937 in Rhineland, Texas. He graduated from Nazareth High School in 1955 and served in the U.S. Army following the Korean War. He married Mildred Fetsch on June 1, 1965. Mr. Birkenfeld was a farmer and rancher. He was preceded in death by his father, Chris; a brother, Clarence; and a son, Paul in 1989. He is survived by his wife, Mildred; and his mother, Rose of Nazareth; four sons and Daughters-In-Law, Phillip and Mary Birkenfeld and children James, Shiloh, Ashley, Jamie, and Kyra of Amarillo; Patrick and Susan Birkenfeld and Children Brandy, Slade, and Brittany of Snyder; Leroy and Asia Birkenfeld and Children Kyler, Abbyegale, and Emma Rae of Dimmitt; and Chris Birkenfeld of Nazareth; three daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy and Marty Wells and Son Noah of Amarillo; Linda and Luis TaFoya and daughter, Sara of Albuquerque; Christy and Shawn Christian and daughter Alexandra of Amarillo; four brothers and two sisters. Rosary and Wake services will be held on Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m. at the CCD Building in Nazareth. The family suggests memorials to the Holy Family Catholic Church in Nazareth or B.S.A. Hospice in Amarillo.

Maupin -- James William"Will" Maupin, passed away on August 22, 2003 after a long illness. Will was born on July 10, 1960 in Albuquerque, NM. He had two great loves in his life, his wife and his children. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed working in his garden and his passion was his flowers. Will enjoyed cooking and taking pleasure in pleasing others with his culinary delights. His Saturday's were spent watching all of the cooking shows on t.v. Will also loved the outdoors, often taking trips into the mountains with his family to enjoy the tranquility of the canyons. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Will is survived by his loving wife, Rene; his precious children, Derrick and Kara Siemsen; his beloved parents, Ann and Gerald Hyatt of Albuquerque; sisters, Jennifer and husband Richard Collins of Phoenix, AZ, and Johanna and husband Brian Thompson of Albuquerque; grandmother, Allamay Hyatt of Albuquerque; his in-laws Les and Ellie Williams of Denver, CO; and numerous loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of very special friends. Moss -- Coy L. Moss died Wednesday, August 20, 2003. His wife, Barbara, of 58 years, survives him. He retired from Sandia National Laboratories. His greatest joys were his family and golf. Surviving family includes his daughter, Sheila Perrin; sons, James, C.K., Merritt and wife, Susan; grandsons, Shaun and wife, Ashlyn McKay, SPC Greg and wife, Karen; sister, Joy Rizzi; brother-in law, James McConnell; great-grandchildren, Gavin, Maranda and Alexis. Services will be held at Sunrise Society, 7601 Wyoming, NE at 11:30 a.m. Monday, August 25, 2003. Burial at Veterans Cemetery in Santa Fe. Mayer -- James E. Mayer, 51, former resident, died July 30, 2003 in Tucson after a long illness. A Valley High graduate, he worked in construction. He is survived by siblings, Penny Fehringer, Pat Altepeter, Kathy Mayer and Mike Rosetta; and nine nieces and nephews, including Cheryl Fehringer, Albuquerque. Gay -- James W. Gay died August 15, 2003 at his home following a lengthy illness, he was 50. Born in Albuquerque, Mr. Gay graduated from Del Norte High School in 1970. In 1979, he graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a degree in Ocean Engineering. He has resided in Marblehead for the past 19 years. Mr. Gay worked for General Electric, Lynn as a gear program manager. he was a member of GE Elfun Volunteers, American Society of Naval Engineers, the Navy League and the Surface navy Association. Prior to engineering, he worked in New Mexico as a skilled carpenter building custom homes. As a dedicated father, Mr. Gay was an active member of the Yankee Clipper Council, BSA Marblehead Pack/Troop 79. He coached and was a board member of Marblehead Youth Soccer. He liked traveling with his family, his Newfoundland dog, Glover and watching westerns. He could fix anything! Mr. Gay is survived by his wife of 24 years, Betsy (Loewenherz); daughter, Abigail; two sons, Jonathan and Timothy all of Marblehead, MA. He was the son of the late James W. Gay and Gladys (Oberle) Gay of Albuquerque. He leaves his uncle, Don and aunt, Gretchen Mulder; uncle, David and aunt, Ilse Gay of Albuquerque; uncle, Charlie Gay of Pennsylvania and aunt, Charlotte Truog of New Jersey; as well as their extended families. A Memorial Service was held on August 18, 2003 at Stanetsky-Hymanson Memorial Chapel, Salem, MA. Memorial Observance was held in his late residence August 18, 2003 through the 20th. Fratzola -- Amy Marcella Fratzola, age 86, of Pecos, NM, passed away at home on Wednesday, August 20, 2003, following a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her brother, Pat Valverde, Jr. and sister, Doris Medina. Amy was born in Trementina, NM to Patricio and Amy Valverde. She married Anthony Fratzola in Las Vegas, NM on June 5, 1943. Amy was a graduate of Allison James High School and later attended Highlands University. Mrs. Fratzola was employed as a teacher with Mora County school system, Social Services for San Miguel County, a secretary for U.S. Engineers, and the Albuquerque Police and Fire Department, and a homemaker. She was also an active member of the Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her husband, Anthony Fratzola; son, Anthony Fratzola and wife Ann; daughters: Gay Rodriguez and husband Tony and Elizabeth Hardman and husband Ed; grandchildren: Allison Cone, Jennifer Pruett, Sarah Cone, Lisa Cone, Ricky DuBois, Becky Chavez, Paul DuBois, George Fratzola, Denise Garcia and 16 great-grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers will be Rick DuBois, Paul DuBois, George Fratzola, Jimmy Fratzola, Paul Pruett and Jeffery Pruett. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 25, 2003, 12:00 noon at Berardinelli Family Chapel. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
