Archuleta -- Becky Archuleta, age 62, went home to be with our Lord after a lengthy illness. Becky is survived by her children, Edward Archuleta, Wanda Archuleta and husband, Matthew, JoAnn Chappell and husband, Bryan, Becky Montoya and husband, Jeff, Sharon Archuleta, Matt Archuleta and wife, Liz; grandson, Dominic Archuleta (whom she raised). Visitation will be on Sunday, August 24, 2003, from 5:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m. at McGee Memorial Chapel. A Rosary will be recited on Sunday, August 24, 2003, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Francis Cathedral. Mass of the Resurrection will be on Monday, August 25, 2003, at 10:00 a.m., also at St. Francis Cathedral. Burial will follow the Mass at Memorial Gardens. Barela -- Mrs. Mary O. Barela, 83, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on August 22, 2003. Mrs. Barela is survived by one daughter, Lorraine Solano and husband, Robert (Bob); one son, Lawrence ( Lorenzo ) Barela and wife, Tommy; one brother, Manuel Acanas; two grandchildren, Eric Solano and wife, Adella and Anna Marie Solano; two great grandchildren, Miles Solano and Madison Solano. Mrs. Barela was a member of the Catholic Church. A visitation for Mrs. Barela will be Sunday afternoon from 2:30pm until 3:00pm in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 3:00pm. A final visitation will be Monday morning from 8:30am until 9:00am at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna NW with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:00am by Father Gene Gries. Castro -- Maria G. (Valtierra-Coronado Gonzales-Granados) Castro, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, age 94, born January 13, 1909 in Irapuato, Guanajuato, Mexico and a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico for 50 years, passed away August 22, 2003 to a better place in heaven to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and Our Lady of Guadalupe. A devout Catholic, she was a member of the Legion of Mary, and member of St. Edwin Parish. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Basilio Castro, three sons, and two daughters. She is survived by her two sons, Charles Castro and wife Viola and Arthur Castro both of Albuquerque, NM; three daughters, Carmen Mazer and Gloria Smith and husband Bob both of Albuquerque, NM, and Polly Mich and husband Alex of Tucson, AZ; her grandchildren Mike Castro of Albuquerque, Angela Olguin and husband Paul of Chandler, AZ, Richard Mich of Pittsburgh, PA, Laura Mich of Pittsburgh, PA, Robert Mich of Phoenix, AZ; several great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm Monday, August 25, 2003. Burial of Christian Mass will be held Tuesday, August 26, 2003 at 8:30 a.m. at St. Edwin Catholic Church, 2105 Barcelona Rd. Christianson -- Ken Christianson, 57, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on August 21, 2003 at his home. He is survived by his wife, Doris, of Albuquerque, NM; daughter, Kari Buresh and husband Brady of Cedar Rapids, IA; son, Kyle Christianson and fiance Kathy Ricklefs of Omaha, NE; granddaughters, Aren Mikayla and Maci Elaine Buresh both of Cedar Rapids, IA; brothers, T. LeRoy Christianson and wife Jean of Chandler, AZ and H. Dennis Christianson and wife Lillian of Florence, OR; and several nieces and nephews. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Tillman and Clara Christianson; his sister, Kay T.; a nephew,"little" Dennis; and a niece, Melissa. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the US Navy serving during the Vietnam War from 1967-1971. Ken had served as a volunteer fireman in Williston, ND for 12 years. He was a past Director of the Williston Chamber of Commerce, past Director and President of the North Dakota Retail Lumberman's Association, and a past Director for the Minot Builders Supply Association. He attended Faith Lutheran Church. Ken had a great love for the US National Parks. He had collected over 70 hat pins from many of the parks and monuments that he and Doris had visited. Ken was proud of and greatly enjoyed attending and supporting his son Kyle's sporting events, especially his football career. He loved life, his family, and especially his granddaughters who lovingly referred to him as Papa. Ken was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. Memorial Services will be held, Tuesday, August 26, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 10000 Spain NE, with Pastor W. Bruce Wilder, Jr. officiating. Fichtner -- Leonora (Lee) Irene Prestel Fichtner was born on November 24, 1923 and lived her entire life in Albuquerque. Lee was a graduate of St. Mary's High School. In her lifetime she worked as a beautician, was employed by St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School and proudly served several years as a technician at GTE Lenkurt. In her retirement she enjoyed watching hummingbirds in her garden, collecting items made of brass, and curling up with a good book. Family and friends were especially important to her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Clara Prestel, and siblings, John Prestel, Joann Barrett, and Paul Prestel. She is survived by siblings, Mary Lou Farinelli, and Clara Prestel, and by her children, Judy Martin, Gary Fichtner, Don Fichtner, Carol Klinger and Gail Bryant. She has nine loving and supportive grandchildren, Kathy Williamson, Karen Stefan, Kim Mitchell, Kristyn De Gross, Garrett Fichtner, Carrie and Jeremy Klinger, and Hannah and Jonathan Bryant. She was especially proud to be G.G. to her six great -grandchildren, Cassidy and Meredith Williamson, Noah and Liam Mitchell, and Dillan and Rylee De Gross. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and dear friend Sachiko Carroll. Lee was lovingly cared for by family and friends during the last days of her life including the time of her passing, early Friday morning, August 15, 2003. Cremation has taken place. If you choose, in lieu of flowers, a book donated to your local library would be deeply appreciated. Lee will be honored at a memorial service in late December. Fratzola -- Amy Marcella Fratzola, age 86, of Pecos, NM, passed away at home on Wednesday, August 20, 2003, following a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her brother, Pat Valverde, Jr. and sister, Doris Medina. Amy was born in Trementina, NM to Patricio and Amy Valverde. She married Anthony Fratzola in Las Vegas, NM on June 5, 1943. Amy was a graduate of Allison James High School and later attended Highlands University. Mrs. Fratzola was employed as a teacher with Mora County school system, Social Services for San Miguel County, a secretary for U.S. Engineers, and the Albuquerque Police and Fire Department, and a homemaker. She was also an active member of the Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her husband, Anthony Fratzola; son, Anthony Fratzola and wife Ann; daughters: Gay Rodriguez and husband Tony and Elizabeth Hardman and husband Ed; grandchildren: Allison Cone, Jennifer Pruett, Sarah Cone, Lisa Cone, Ricky DuBois, Becky Chavez, Paul DuBois, George Fratzola, Denise Garcia and 16 great-grandchildren. Gay -- James W. Gay died August 15, 2003 at his home following a lengthy illness, he was 50. Born in Albuquerque, Mr. Gay graduated from Del Norte High School in 1970. In 1979, he graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a degree in Ocean Engineering. He has resided in Marblehead for the past 19 years. Mr. Gay worked for General Electric, Lynn as a gear program manager. he was a member of GE Elfun Volunteers, American Society of Naval Engineers, the Navy League and the Surface navy Association. Prior to engineering, he worked in New Mexico as a skilled carpenter building custom homes. As a dedicated father, Mr. Gay was an active member of the Yankee Clipper Council, BSA Marblehead Pack/Troop 79. He coached and was a board member of Marblehead Youth Soccer. He liked traveling with his family, his Newfoundland dog, Glover and watching westerns. He could fix anything! Mr. Gay is survived by his wife of 24 years, Betsy (Loewenherz); daughter, Abigail; two sons, Jonathan and Timothy all of Marblehead, MA. He was the son of the late James W. Gay and Gladys (Oberle) Gay of Albuquerque. He leaves his uncle, Don and aunt, Gretchen Mulder; uncle, David and aunt, Ilse Gay of Albuquerque; uncle, Charlie Gay of Pennsylvania and aunt, Charlotte Truog of New Jersey; as well as their extended families. A Memorial Service was held on August 18, 2003 at Stanetsky-Hymanson Memorial Chapel, Salem, MA. Memorial Observance was held in his late residence August 18, 2003 through the 20th. Gutierrez -- Mary G. Gutierrez, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2003, after a long illness at the age of 77. She was a graduate of Albuquerque High School, class of 1943. In addition to being a homemaker, Mrs. Gutierrez spent many years in the supervision of manufacturing and distribution of turquoise and silver jewelry. Mrs. Gutierrez is survived by her husband, Miguel Gutierrez; sons, George R. Padilla and Gerald P. Padilla; daughters, Christine A. Zaccaria and husband Frank, and Eileen A. Lucero and fiance, Lawrence Reyes; grandchildren, Jerry Padilla, Michael Padilla, Frankie Zaccaria Jr., Ginette B. Pedroncelli, Alegras Lucero and Jimmy Lucero; and one sister, Consuelo Ballejos of Belen. Mrs. Gutierrez will be deeply missed by her loving family. Hidalgo -- Clara Hidalgo, 93, a resident of Belen, NM, passed away on August 21, 2003 while surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 21, 1909 to Cristoval and Genoveva Castillo. She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church and a member of Blessed Sacrament Society. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Eugenio Hidalgo in November of 1990, and one grandson, Erik Vigil in July of 2000. Clara is survived by her 2 sons, Santiago"Sandy" Hidalgo and his wife, Theresa of Albuquerque, NM; Joe Hidalgo and his wife, Hilda of Belen; her 3 daughters, Dolores Vigil and her husband, Richard of Belen; Josephine Hidalgo Cordova of Austin, TX; and Corine Fike of Albuquerque; her 17 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; and 5 great great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Maxine Hidalgo of Clovis, NM; Florinda Aragon of Santa Fe, NM; and brother-in-law, Lalo Hidalgo and his wife, Erlinda of Albuquerque, NM. Jacobson -- Blessed by God and now in His Loving Care, we mourn the passing of Mrs. Lois M. Jacobson, friend, sister, and aunt, who died Friday, August 22, 2003. Lois was born to Mary and Bascomb Hamner in Benjamin, Texas, on October 14, 1911. She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris A. (Jake) Jacobson, in March of 1997. Lois and Jake were married May 25, 1932. They were longtime residents of Albuquerque, having settled here in 1946. Lois was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church. She received recognition as a fifty-year member of Eastern Star. Other affiliations include the Albuquerque Duplicate Bridge Club. Lois is survived by her brother, C.R. Hamner of San Angelo, Texas; nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews; and their families; godchildren and their families; and an extended family of dear loving friends and neighbors. An interment ceremony will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sunset Wall, Sunset Memorial Park 924 Menaul NE. Memorial contributions may be made to The Lois M. Matteson -- Frances Tarazon-Matteson, age 88, beloved mother, grandmother, and sister was called home to be with the Lord our Savior, and her beloved husband, Wednesday, August 20, 2003. Frances was born in Deming, NM to the late Frank and Antonia Tarazon, she was a resident of Albuquerque; a parishioner of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Alameda. Frances was a member of the China Painter Association; her love for God and family led her to becoming a foster parent for Catholic Charity; and in her spare time she enjoyed knitting with the group at Palo Duro Senior Center, as well as singing in the choir with her friends. Frances was preceded in death by her husband Jacob O. Matteson June 20, 2003. She is survived by her loving children, Jacob, Audie, Maria Yeefong, Juan Yeefong and wife Young, and David Klausen; three grandchildren, Kim Morris, Carrie Olden, Paul Yeefong; and one great-granddaughter, Michelle Simper. Also surviving are two sisters, Toni Ramirez, Rose Casaus; one brother, Manuel Tarazon; and many other beloved family members and friends. Frances will be greatly missed by her loving family and by those who knew and loved her. Mcwatters -- Alicia Faye McWatters age 43, died Thursday August 21, 2003, Alicia was born in Gloucester, Ma to Daniel H. George and Nancy George (Burnham). Alicia dropped out of high school at the age of 17 but went back and received her GED at age 19. She went on to receive a Doctor of Philosophy in Nutrition in 1998. Alicia danced professionally as a ballerina in both Boston and in New York until retirement in 1986. Alicia is survived by her husband Bruce McWatters whom she married in 1987. She and Bruce began raising parrots in 1988. Alicia wrote countless articles on pet nutrition, specializing in parrot nutrition. She was a breeder of parrots, ostriches and show beagles. Her passion in the past few years was showing dogs in conformation. She authored ¯A guide to a Naturally Healthy Bird¯ and co-authored ¯Super Nutrition for Animals and Birds Too. Alicia is also survived by her two sons Travis and Tyler McWatters, both of Edgewood, her mother Nancy Burnham of Peabody, Ma., brother Dan George, sister Janet Riley and a nephew, Joshua Riley all of Massachusetts. Alicia was a member of the Mountainside United Methodist church in Cedar Crest, New Mexico. Mitchell -- Ruth Irene Jackson Mitchell, 92, a resident of Albuquerque, formerly of Greeley, CO died August 20, 2003 peacefully at home. Her husband, Robert preceded her in death in 1976; and daughter, Dottie Norris in 2000; also by her parents, Charles and Opal Jackson; and siblings, Anna and Cecil Jackson. Ruth moved to Albuquerque in 1981 and shared a home with daughter, Barbara. She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church. She is survived by daughter, Barbara Ruth Mitchell of Albuquerque; and grandson, Mike Wolfe wife, Julie, and great granddaughter Tasha, of Tijeras, NM; and great-grandson, Christopher Wolfe of Irvine, CA; sister, Nelle and husband, Carl of Edmund, OK, Margaret Wood of Delta, CO, Dorothy Watson of Plateville, CO, Helen Moss of Flagler, CO; sister-in-law, Leda Palser of Evans, CO; and extended families. With deepest love and respect for Ruth's wishes, her body was donated to UNM School of Medicine. No Memorial Service will be held. She will be greatly missed by all who were lucky to know her. Moss -- Coy L. Moss died Wednesday, August 20, 2003. His wife, Barbara, of 58 years, survives him. He retired from Sandia National Laboratories. His greatest joys were his family and golf. Surviving family includes his daughter, Sheila Perrin; sons, James, C.K., Merritt and wife, Susan; grandsons, Shaun and wife, Ashlyn McKay, SPC Greg and wife, Karen; sister, Joy Rizzi; brother-in law, James McConnell; great-grandchildren, Gavin, Maranda and Alexis. Muniz -- Anita M. Muniz, 32, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on August 22, 2003. Anita is survived by her loving husband Paul; one daughter, Lachelle Muniz; two sons, Justin Muniz and Sabastian Moreno; mother, Portana Trujillo; three sisters, Josephine Trujillo, Antoinette Moreno, and Bernadette Martinez and husband, Alfredo; two brothers, Jerry Trujillo and wife, Patricia, and Eliseo Moreno Jr.; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Anita was preceeded in death by her father, Eliseo Moreno Sr. She was a member of the Catholic Church, a graduate of Albuquerque High School, and a former employee of American Furniture. A visitation for Anita will be Monday evening from 6:30pm until 7:00pm at St. Anne Catholic Church, 1400 Arenal SW, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00pm. Final visitation will be Tuesday morning from 8:30am until 9:00am at St. Anne Catholic Church, with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:00am by Father Landcaster. Murray -- Charles R."Chuck" Murray, age 73, a resident of Albuquerque since 1960, died Saturday, August 23, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Martha Murray of Albuquerque; son, Mike of Albuquerque; daughter, Susie of Albuquerque; grandson, Evan Willoughby; brother, Robert Murray and wife Jane of Andrews, TX. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Emma Murray, and stepfather, Clarence McClain. He was born May 13, 1930 in Colorado City, TX to Emma and Roy Murray. Chuck was a Korean Veteran and was awarded the Purple Heart. He attended the School of Mines in Socorro, NM. Chuck and his wife were the founders of Murray Drilling where his son Mike now runs the company. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Thursday, August 28, 2003, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. Ortiz -- Frances S. Ortiz, age 83, a resident of Albuquerque since 1991, died Saturday, August 23, 2003. She is survived by her husband, Felix F. Ortiz of Albuquerque; daughters, Jean Garcia and husband Tom of Albuquerque, Joanna Serabia of Cape Canaveral, FL; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; sisters, Lydia Nuevo and husband Manuel of a La Verkin, UT, Catherine Smith of Reno, NV, and Eleanor Bushnell and husband Howard of Kona, HI. Frances was preceded in death by her son, Robert Valente and her brother, Tony Brun. Frances was born and raised in Hawaii and exuded Hawaiian and Polynesian culture. She was the best cook in the world. Frances was a beloved mother, grandmother and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Tapia -- Felicitas Tapia, 86, passed away on August 21, 2003. She was born on June 8, 1917 in Chihuahua, Mexico. Mrs. Tapia is survived by husband, Florencio Tapia; sisters, Eulalia Lopez (Lala) and Acencion Ochoa; brother, Refugio Ochoa of Juarez, Mexico; four nieces; three nephews and god daughter Lalita Lopez. Mrs. Tapia will be deeply missed by her loving family. Tunnell -- Vestal Bates Tunnell, born November 14, 1916 died in Albuquerque on August 18, 2003. She is survived by her son, Jerrold and his wifem Marlene; and grandson, Matthew of New Jersey. She is also survived by sister, Pauline Bradley; and brother, Bill Bates of Lubbock, Texas. She was preceded in death by daughter, Joanne and husband, Homer of 52 years. She was a long term resident of Farmington before moving to Albuquerque, where she was a member of St. Stephen's United Methodist Church. Valdez -- Robert B. Valdez, age 60, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, passed away August 21, 2003. Survivors include his wife, Marylin Valdez; five daughters- Kimberly Valdez, Kelly Johnson and husband Herb, Kyle Allard and husband Greg, Kasey Fayter and husband Michael, Joey Lynn Wilson and husband Lee, all of Albuquerque; one son- Robert Valdez and wife Kathleen of Albuquerque; his father, Alfonso Valdez of Willard; three brothers- Archie Valdez of Moriarty, Rick Valdez of Albuquerque, Don Valdez of Willard; ten grandchildren; one great grandchild. His mother Irene Salas preceded Robert in death. Robert loved his family very much; he and his wife have been married forty-two years celebrating their wedding anniversary on August 23rd. He was a well-respected man in the community, as well as a good neighbor and dedicated employee. He had a talent to fix things and enjoyed his job. Robert was a faithful and devoted member in his church, Queen of Heaven, for over forty years. Robert was employed with Hanna Plumbing and Heating for over 27 years in which the last few years he served as a contractor for Ethicon. He was also a member of the local 412 Plumbers and Pipefitters from where he retired in July of this year. Waldorf -- Melvin Harvey Waldorf , Jr. MD., (13 June 1923 - 11 August 2003). Dr. Waldorf was born in Oklahoma and raised in Oklahoma, California, and Kansas. Upon graduating from Wichita East High School, he began pre-med studies at Wichita State University. His education was briefly interrupted when he enlisted in the United States Army during WWII. However, it was the Army's practice at the time to send all pre-med students to Yale University in Stanford, Connecticut, where Dr. Waldorf completed the coursework necessary to begin medical school at the University of Kansas in 1944. He completed his Doctorate of Medicine in 1947 and he, along with his future partner, J.R. Bradley, MD, took internship and residency at the Later Day Saints Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. Following training the two started a Family Practice clinic in Greensburg in December 1949, and shortly thereafter became the staff physicians at the Kiowa County Memorial Hospital. Dr. Waldorf retired from practice in May of 1991. He practiced medicine continuously in the Greensburg community with the exception of 1943-1945 when he was called into service by the United States Air Force during the Korean war and served at a base in Big Springs, Texas. Dr. Waldorf married the former Mary Virginia Pierce on December 21, 1947, in Fayetteville, AR. Together they raised three children, Pam Pitchford and Ann Waldorf of Albuquerque, NM and Jim Waldorf of St. Augustine, FL. Dr. Waldorf was an active memeber of the Greensburg community where he belonged to and served in various capacities in the Rotary Club, the Masons, the Greensburg United Methodist church, the Greensburg Public School Board of Education and the Iroquois Medical Society. Dr. Waldorf is survived by many friends, family and pets, including his wife, Virginia, of Mesa, AZ; his sister, Carol Waldorf of Rayville, MO; his three children and their families, including six grandchildren, Jenny, Tyler, Paige, Adam, Fritz, and Binh. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Sunday, August 31, 2003, at the Greensburg United Methodist Church at 3:00 p.m. The family is requesting memorials be sent to either Kiowa County Memorial Hospital or the Kiowa County Medical Foundation.
