HAMMAR -- SHIRLEY M. (O'KEEFE) R. N. Age 89, a resident of Albuquerque since 1971, slipped these surly bonds on January 19, 2012. She was born in Oakland, California and always thought herself a Californian. She was one of two daughters born to Irene and Arthur O'Keefe. Irene died when Shirley was six. She and her older sister Patsy (presently of Carmel, CA) were reared by their maternal grandparents. Shirley obtained her Bachelor's in Nursing from Providence College and also attended the College of Holy Names (near Oakland, CA). She worked as a RN for nearly 50 years, in various hospitals, including Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman, TX, Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO and UNMH. After retiring she served as a volunteer at the Animal Humane Assn. and the NM Museum of Natural History. She was a private person with a mordant sense of humor who met and married the love of her life, H. Gordon Hammar, while both were serving in the U.S. Army in Germany shortly after WWII. They had a 51 year marriage when Gordon, then a retired LCOL USAF and owner/ operator of Eddy Hammar Hardware, died in 1998. Shirley had a son, Dennis, who also died before her. But his two children, Christian and Caitlin Landskroener, and their mother, Nancy Landskroener, survive her. Also surviving are her son, Kevin and daughter-in-law, Kathy (Brandt) Hammar and their two children, Joseph Brandt-Hammar and Elyse Sokoloff and her husband, Mike and their children (Shirley's great-grandchildren) Elianna and Marielle. She will be interred, with military honors, in the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, with Gordon whom she will rejoin after 13 years of separation. Apart from a private graveside ceremony, she wanted no other service. The family invites Shirley's friends to an open house on February 5, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 1687 Tierra Del Rio NW, Albuquerque. Shirley loved animals, particularly ducks and dogs, so in lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the Animal Humane Assn. of New Mexico at 615 Virginia SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108. There are not thanks enough for the many people who were so kind to her these last few years. Nor can we hope to find all of her friends to whom she would have us say goodbye. May she have fair winds and following seas. JONES -- LOIS February 24, 1926 - January 22, 2012 Longtime Belen and Albuquerque resident Lois W. Jones died Sunday in Price, Utah, leaving husband Dale A. Jones without his loving dance partner for the first time in seven decades. Lois first danced with Dale in 1942 at Los Gatos High School in California. They found each other again when World War II ended and married on August 28, 1948. They moved to Logan, Utah where Dale completed his studies in Wildlife Management. A wise Utah State professor told Dale that the key to a successful career is a willing wife. He was so right! While Dale was getting paid for doing what he loved, Lois raised three wonderful children. Born first was Darlene Ellen, then Derris Russell and their last baby was Del Leonard. Dale joined the U.S. Forest Service in 1957. The family lived about the country including 10 years in Albuquerque. There was never a whimper from Lois, who always got left behind to sell a house and care for the kids. She was the backbone of the family. She loved the outdoors and the Jones family hunted, fished and backpacked into some of God's greatest creations. Lois taught herself to paint in oils and was so proud when she sold her first painting on a beach in Mazatlan, Mexico. Dale and Lois retired to New Mexico and lived in Belen 1987-2005 where Lois was an ombudsman at area nursing homes. She took the job to heart. A Type 1 diabetic for forty years, she kept her blood sugar under control. A stroke in 2006 was the culprit that kept her from enjoying the life she wanted to live and it became Dale's turn to take care of her. Lois leaves behind a loving family: husband Dale of 63 years; daughter Darlene and her husband Ray Rollins; son Derris, his wife Stacey and daughters Dusti, Dena, and Mikayla; son Del, his wife Dianna, daughter Ciera and son Douglas; brother Raymond Wolfe and his wife Barbara. Lois was preceded in death my her mother, father and brother Russell Wolfe. A memorial is being planned in Utah in the future. When Dale passes, his ashes will be mixed with hers so that they can dance again. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Diabetes Association or the National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-Term Care. Friends are welcome to share memories of Lois at: www.mitchellfuneralhome.net

Vern received his undergraduate degree from Notre Dame and a Masters in Chemical Engineering at the University of Southern California. Initially Vern worked as a chemical engineer at Colgate Palmolive in Kansas City. He later moved to Los Angeles and worked for the Rocketdyne Division of North American Aviation, doing research on liquid rocket propellants and solid rocket propellant production. He later worked for Aerospace Corporation as a liquid rocket engine specialist for the Mercury, Gemini and Titan rocket programs. Here in Albuquerque, he worked with the Air Force on their High Energy Laser program. Vern was a devout Catholic and an initial member of Risen Savior Catholic Church. He and his wife Mary Ellen participated in the Marriage Enrichment Program as leaders. Vern had a passion for helping others. He was the president of the non-profit organization ACT/ON Society, which was founded over 25 years ago to help people, particularly single mothers, improve their economic situation. He and other volunteers re-habilitated donated computers and gave them to children who might not otherwise have had one, to help further their education. More than 1,000 children received computers from the ACT/ON Society. Members of the ACT/ON Society also taught secretarial skills, maintained a women's business clothing bank and taught children about careers to encourage them to stay in school. In his vision for ACT/ON's future, Vern had hoped to create a "self-sustaining" community of single mothers that incorporated housing for them and their children. We will miss Vern. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ACT/ON Society, 6314 Edith NE Suite B, Albuquerque NM 87107 or any charitable organization that helps single mothers. A Rosary will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2012, 6:00 p.m., at French - Wyoming Chapel. ULLRICH -- TREVA CUNNINGHAM One of America's Sweethearts has gone to be with her sisters and husband, no doubt to join them on a favorite Caribbean Cruise. Treva Leota Ullrich passed away January 19, 2012 still strong and stunning at 95, leaving us all with aspirations to be more like her. Truly sweet, gracious, thankful, classy and full of the extraordinary Southern charm she never lost, we cherish the memories of her sparkling blue eyes and endearing smile. She was indeed beautiful, inside and out. Treva was born in October, 1916, in Manchester City, Tennessee. She was the middle sister of three, all characteristic southern names: Alta, Treva and Oma. Their mother, Della, died tragically at a young age after being thrown from a horse. Her father farmed corn with his brother Dee (perhaps to make bootleg whiskey) until he was saved from accidentally driving off a cliff--a message from God, he felt, that made him convert, enter a seminary, and become a Methodist minister when Treva was 12. A strong, proud, loving and dignified man, he raised his girls to believe that, "The only hand you will ever need is at the bottom of your sleeve." Their inherited, fierce independence made them outstanding role models for all us. Treva grew up traveling to church services along backwoods Tennessee roads in a horse and buggy, until her dad worked his way up to larger metro churches and an automobile. She grew up in Nashville, attended secretarial school, and took a job in Washington D.C., where she had a blind date with a handsome major in an army uniform. Leon Ullrich swept her off her feet, married her, and after he returned from overseas, took her to St Louis for a few years and then moved her to Albuquerque in the late 40's to be near his parents in Roswell. The Ullrich's had two children and built a red brick house near UNM, Leon's alma mater, where Leon was a graduate, and the kids could walk to elementary, junior high and high school. Leon worked his way up to full Colonel at Ft Bliss and Sandia Base and then retired in 1977. Treva and Leon traveled to Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Germany together. They threw great parties, loved to laugh and entertain friends, played a lot of cards, and entertained us all until his death in the early eighties. Treva soldiered on, becoming good at Bridge and great at being a grandmother, enjoying family, friends, wine, ribald toasts, and incredible physical health well into her nineties. Treva is survived by her son, Duane Ullrich; daughter, Debbie Johnson; granddaughter, Nica Marez; grandson, Destry Ullrich; great-grandson, Evan Marez; great-granddaughters, Alana and Kiera Friedman, and granddaughters, Leslie Johnson and Lauren Hegna. She has beloved nieces in Nashville, Lavon Knies, Barbara Wilkins, Teresa Kearns and Dianne Hall, as well as several great nieces and a nephew. She was an Honored Lady of Ballut Abyad Shrine and a proud member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, and leaves behind dear and lifelong friends within. All of us who love Treva are grateful for the kindness and support she was given in the last years of her life from the great folks at Manzano Del Sol, SolAmor Hospice, super helper Elsie Davis, and the incredible team of angels with Sandy Green at Parkland Circle. Services will take place at French Mortuary, University Chapel on January 27 at 11:00 a.m. She and Leon will be reunited at the Santa Fe National Cemetery following the service at 2:15 p.m. Please visit our online guest book for Treva at www.RememberTheirStory.com. WOLFE -- EVAN AVERY WARREN Age 1, gently passed away at home with his family by his side on Saturday, January 21, 2012. Evan was born on January 19, 2011 to his parents, Jesse Warren and Stacy Ann (Butts) Wolfe of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Jesse and Stacy were overjoyed when they found out they were expecting. Precious Evan was the answered prayer to years of trying to conceive. He was known for his happy, charismatic personality, his beautiful blue eyes that captured everyone's heart, and his breathtaking smile. In August of 2011, at almost seven months old, the most painful of diagnoses was given to the Wolfe family: a pineoblastoma, a very rare and aggressive tumor was found in Evan's brain. Many knew him from his Caring Bridge page (www.caringbridge.org/visit/evan011911) Prayers, love, and support from all that he touched on his journey along with his father's strength and his mother's stubbornness helped him fight far longer than his doctors expected. Evan is survived by his parents, Jesse and Stacy Wolfe, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; grandparents, Cynthia Tobyas, Timothy Butts, Robert Beagen, and Bradley Blue; uncles, Justin Tobyas and his wife, Sana Szewczyk, of Mt. Etna, Indiana, and Jason Beagan, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; aunts, Tracy Frick of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, and Brandy Chivvis and her husband,Richard, of Keeling, Virginia; and many cousins and supporters who will greatly miss him.
