Obituary for JONES

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday January 25, 2012

LOIS February 24, 1926 - January 22, 2012 Longtime Belen and Albuquerque resident Lois W. Jones died Sunday in Price, Utah, leaving husband Dale A. Jones without his loving dance partner for the first time in seven decades. Lois first danced with Dale in 1942 at Los Gatos High School in California. They found each other again when World War II ended and married on August 28, 1948. They moved to Logan, Utah where Dale completed his studies in Wildlife Management. A wise Utah State professor told Dale that the key to a successful career is a willing wife. He was so right! While Dale was getting paid for doing what he loved, Lois raised three wonderful children. Born first was Darlene Ellen, then Derris Russell and their last baby was Del Leonard. Dale joined the U.S. Forest Service in 1957. The family lived about the country including 10 years in Albuquerque. There was never a whimper from Lois, who always got left behind to sell a house and care for the kids. She was the backbone of the family. She loved the outdoors and the Jones family hunted, fished and backpacked into some of God's greatest creations. Lois taught herself to paint in oils and was so proud when she sold her first painting on a beach in Mazatlan, Mexico. Dale and Lois retired to New Mexico and lived in Belen 1987-2005 where Lois was an ombudsman at area nursing homes. She took the job to heart. A Type 1 diabetic for forty years, she kept her blood sugar under control. A stroke in 2006 was the culprit that kept her from enjoying the life she wanted to live and it became Dale's turn to take care of her. Lois leaves behind a loving family: husband Dale of 63 years; daughter Darlene and her husband Ray Rollins; son Derris, his wife Stacey and daughters Dusti, Dena, and Mikayla; son Del, his wife Dianna, daughter Ciera and son Douglas; brother Raymond Wolfe and his wife Barbara. Lois was preceded in death my her mother, father and brother Russell Wolfe. A memorial is being planned in Utah in the future. When Dale passes, his ashes will be mixed with hers so that they can dance again. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Diabetes Association or the National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-Term Care.
