HENDEN -- DUANE M. Lt. Col. USAF Ret. Interment with full military honors will be held at Ft. Logan National Cemetery [Area A] in Denver CO at 9:00 am on Friday, 5 August 2011. A reception follows at 11:00 am at the Hilton Garden Inn Denver/Highlands Ranch. A group rate for rooms at the Hilton is available through 22 July. Duane died at home on 7 December 2009 with his family by his side, his remains then being cremated. He was born in Tacoma WA on 28 October 1940 to Emma and John Johnson, both from immigrant Norwegian families. Due to a storm, John, age 2 at the time, and his mother missed the first ship on which they had booked passage to America, the Titanic. Twelve years ago, with the blessing of his wife, his surname was changed to Henden, the original name of his paternal grandfather. His family moved to a farm in the Skagit Valley of WA where he started helping to do chores at the age of three. By the time he graduated from Sedro-Wooley High School, he was repairing machinery and helping to run the farm. After graduating from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma with a degree in Physics, he joined the USAF, first becoming a navigator, then a pilot. Among his decorations was the Distinguished Flying Cross. Duane flew missions in Viet Nam as a FAC. In 1983, a year after his marriage to Pat, when stationed at Kirtland AFB, he retired from active duty. Duane then earned an M.B.A. from Anderson School of Management at UNM and went to work in Santa Fe for the NM State Investment Council, where he worked diligently to ensure that the state's permanent funds were managed with integrity and with the best interests of the beneficiaries in mind. He retired as Deputy State Investment Officer very early in the Richardson administration. After briefly working as a consultant, Duane fully retired and then had time to travel to NY where his son, Erik, attended the United States Merchant Marine Academy and was on their rowing team. Erik now follows in his father's footsteps at Laughlin AFB in TX where he is in AF pilot training. Duane was looking forward to visiting his daughter, Britta, a business major who attends his alma mater, when he succumbed to stomach cancer. We miss him more each day.

MORA -- VIRGINIA R. Died peacefully on Thursday, July 21, 2011, her outsized heart and irrepressible spirit finally deciding to rejoin forces-for eternity this time- with her beloved husband of 57 years, the late Dr. Federico Mora. Ginny lived well and loved easily, she was happy spending quiet hours with Mozart, the Sunday Times, Jeopardy, her myriad cats, the occasional Main Lobster, and, in every season, Saturday afternoons getting blonde again. But more than anything, Ginny was about children - any child of any age - for whom she was simultaneously St. Francis, Mother Teresa, Confucius, and, of course, Ninny. To know her, as they say, was to love her. And to be one of her children is a blessing too wonderful for words. Ginny was born July 4, 1930, in Boston, Massachusetts, and spent nursery school through college years in Wellesley, Massachusetts, before her joining her life with Federico's. She had a lifelong love of music and served the Albuquerque music community for many years. TRAINOR -- THOMAS G. LT. COL. USAF, (Ret), age 90, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2011. He was born in Haverhill, MA on July 31, 1920, the eldest son and namesake of an Irish policeman (a keystone cop) and a loving mother. St. James grammar and high schools, mostly staffed by Irish nuns, provided his early education. Too small for football, Thomas excelled in tennis and ice hockey during his years in high school and later in life became an avid Washington Redskins fan. Upon graduation, during the height of the depression years, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service and in the sales department of the largest sheep tannery in the U.S. During early 1941, he developed an urge to join the military, in which he enlisted in December of the same year. He won an appointment as a Flying Cadet, U.S. Army Air Corps. At this time his military service began in earnest. In September 1942 he graduated as a Navigator/Bombardier; that same year, he also got engaged to the Sweetheart of his life from Albuquerque, the woman who would become his one and only wife of 59 years. His beloved Kathryn preceded him in death, December of 2002. His first assignment from flight school was in a B-26 Marauders at McDill AFB, in Tampa, FL, and then to England, where he completed 64 missions over WWII Europe as a navigator/bombardier and co-pilot in B-26 type aircraft. His many decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with two Silver Oak Leaf Clusters, and one Bronze Cluster; two Air Force Commendation Medals, the French D-day Invasion Medal, European Services Medal with three battle stars, and various other service ribbons. Upon rotation from overseas, he became a ground school and flight instructor in Texas until he voluntarily requested release from active duty. When the Korean War commenced, he was recalled to active duty from Los Alamos, NM, but never returned to flight status because of a serious motor cycle accident after recall. From this time on, however his career became a challenge. He received bachelor and masters from the University of New Mexico and University of California, Berkley, CA, respectively in Management Engineering which qualified him for key assignments in Air Force Systems Command, USAFE, 2nd Air Division Saudi Arabia, and with Joint Task Force-7 in support of nuclear tests in the Pacific. Upon retirement with 27 years active and reserve time, he accepted a position as Head of the Management Systems Division, Naval Ship Research and Development Center at Carderock and Annapolis, MD. After 14 years of service with the Navy, he retired permanently in 1982 to the Land of Enchantment, his adopted state of residence. His societies, religious, and other memberships included Delta Sigma Pi, Society for Advancement of Management, VFW, Air Force Association, Knights of Columbus, Life Member of the Retired Officers, Association, B-26 Marauder Historical Society, 455th Bomb Squadron Association, and a Founding Member of the American Air Museum in Great Britain. He is survived by his brother, Dr. Richard J. Trainor of Salisbury, MA; three sons; Thomas G. Trainor III of San Diego, CA, Robert H. Trainor and his wife, Susan Oak Hill, VA, and Richard L.
