CHESSER -- Bess L. Arisman Chesser, age 67, a resident of Belen, passed away on July 27, 2010. She was a member of the Lions Club International, First Baptist Church of Belen and Friends of the Library in Belen. Bess was a caregiver all her life. She became a Licensed Vocation Nurse in 1974. Bess received her Registered Nurses's Degree in 1977. She worked as a nurse for many years in the four corners area and retired from Four Corners Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Aztec, NM in 2003. Bess was preceded in death by her husbands, John C. Arisman and Charles C. Chesser. She is survived by her brother, Floyd Holder; sisters, Maxine Crawford and Mae Cline; son Roy William Arisman; daughter, Kendra J. Davis; daughter-in-law, Donna Gaunder; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Bess was laid to rest at Santa Fe National Cemetery. A celebration of Bess's life will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Belen, NM 401 Becker Ave. with Rev. Chris Whitney officiating. ELROD -- JeanAnn Elrod, aka "Punky" Bell, passed away in Seguin, TX, March 3, 2010. She was 58. JeanAnn was born to Charlie and Jean T. Bell July 12, 1951 in Albuquerque, NM. She is survived by her husband, Jed; and their five children: Baylin Berg of Farmington, NM, Jeanna Gwen and Shane Hatch and son, Wade of Kirtland, NM, Derek and Allison Elrod and children, Emma, Jimmy and Trevor of Scott Air Force Base, IL, Jena Elrod of Las Cruces, NM and Adam Elrod of Dublin, TX. JeanAnn was preceded in death by her father; and her brother, Charles Louis (Bud) Bell, Jr. JeanAnn's mother and two sisters, Nancy Bell and Francie LeBow live in the Albuquerque area along with numerous other relatives and friends. A Memorial Service to celebrate JeanAnn's life will be held Saturday, August 21, 2010 at the Calvary Chapel South West at 11:00 a.m. The address for the Chapel is: 1720 Bridge Blvd, SW, Albuquerque, NM. GALLEY -- Ellen Joyce (EJ) Galley, 70, passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2010 after a battle with cancer. She is survived by her loving longtime partner, Jim Nichols; her son, Neal Galley; daughters, Sharon Galley and Mary Homan and husband Jim; grandchildren, Ramee, Shannon, Michael and Dallas; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Cleta and husband Chester, Bobbie, Gradine, Dutchie and husband Lloyd; and many special friends, including the father of her children, Fred Galley. GARCIA -- Angela H. Garcia (Caffo), was born November 3, 1916 in Kelly, NM, died peacefully on Saturday, August 14, 2010. She was a resident of New Mexico for 93 years. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ernest; and her parents, Biaggio and Isabel Caffo. Angela is survived by her daughter, Christine and husband, Tom Coyle; sons, Raymond Garcia and wife, Christine, and Michael Garcia and wife, Joan; eight grandchildren; and six great - grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and large number of friends. Angela has been a matriarch, caregiver and homemaker for her family. She was also well known in downtown Albuquerque as the beautiful woman with white hair who worked for years at Levines Department Store. A memorial rosary and mass will be held Friday, August 20, 2010, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 4020 Lomas Blvd. NE. Interment will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. GRANDIA -- Jacob William Grandia "Jake", age 58, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on Monday, August 16, 2010. Jake was preceded in death by his father, Bill Grandia. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Cheryl; children, Cameron and Alex; mother, Catherine; brother, David; sister, Becky Gibson (David); and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jake was passionate about his work and his hobbies. He loved working with his hands and loved coaching youth sports. He coached his son in baseball and his daughter in soccer. HITT -- Gerald Lee Hitt, age 78, was born in Pleasant Hill, Missouri on November 28, 1931 and left this world on August 12, 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Martha Hitt; and a son Jerry. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lois; son Raymond of Albuquerque; son Charles, his wife Dinnara, and their children Ashley and Matthew of Huntington Beach CA; and aunt Betty and uncle Don of Burlington IA. He graduated from Manual Training High School in Peoria, IL and received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Bradley University. After graduating from Bradley, Gerald embarked on a 22-year career in the United States Air Force obtaining the final rank of Lt. Colonel. During this time he received a MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma and carried out assignments at the Special Weapons Center, Kirtland AFB, the Air Force Western Test Range, Vandenberg AFB, CA, the Defense Atomic Support Agency, Sandia AFB, and the Directorate of Nuclear Surety, Kirtland AFB. After retiring from the Air Force, he held positions with the Mason and Hanger-Silas Mason, Dynalectron, and BDM Corporations. During his time in the Air Force, Gerald discovered a small ex-mining town in Colorado, White Pine, and bought an old cabin there. For over 15 years he researched the history of the town and surrounding area, conducted interviews of past and present residents, and published a monthly newsletter named for the towns former newspaper, The White Pine Cone. Jerry has been cremated. A memorial service will be held in White Pine next summer. We would like to thank the Albuquerque VA Medical Center and the VistaCare hospice for the care they provided. PADILLA -- Tony N. Padilla, 93, life long resident of Albuquerque, crossed over to eternal life with our Lord on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at home of cardiac arrest after a long courageous battle with cancer. Part of the "Greatest Generation", who survived the Depression years at an early age through hard work, he proudly served his country during WWII in the Pacific, enlisting in the Army. As many of his generation, after the war, he returned home to his wife and child to help build the United States we all enjoy now thru simple hard work. He worked for Sears Roebuck from April 1939 until he retired in the mid 1980's, at which time he enjoyed fishing, golfing, and his garden. Tony is survived by his beloved wife of 72 1/ 2 years, Rose; daughter, Gloria Cameron of Portland, OR; son, David; granddaughter, Deanna; grandson, Jason; and great-grandson, Trevor, all of California; brothers, Edward and Eustacio Padilla of Albuquerque; sister, Isabel Kozlowski of Alameda, and Flora Castillo of Albuquerque; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tranquilino and Eugenia Padilla; sisters, Emma Lovato, Lucia Martinez, and Cecelia Armijo. Rosary will be held on Friday, August 20, 2010, 9:30 a.m., with Mass following at 10:00 a.m., at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 5310 Claremont NE, where he served as an Usher for many years. RAMIREZ -- Ryan Jacobo Ramirez, born June 15, 1986, died suddenly Saturday, August 14, 2010. He was 24 years old. He leaves behind a large family and many friends who will miss him dearly. Ryan graduated from Cibola High School in 2004. He worked at Rudy's BBQ for many years, before deciding to go back to school to pursue digital arts this fall. His passions were skateboarding, music and art. He was a gifted artist. He was the sunshine of our lives and belonged to all of us. RISBERG -- Gerald A. Risberg, 74, died Saturday August 14, 2010. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine I. Risberg. He is survived by his daughters: Tracy A. McFadden and Deborah L. SANCHEZ -- Armand Patrick Sanchez, age 34, a resident of El Cerro in Los Lunas, NM, left this world to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 8, 2010, surrounded by his loving family. He was the youngest son of Ernest and Mary Lou Sanchez. Armand graduated from Belen High School in 1995. He loved to travel and also went on several mission trips which included Japan, Honduras, Italy, and Mexico. He was very creative in his hobbies and business. Armaned was a local business owner and partner with his father of A&E Stone. He was also on staff at Calvary Chapel Rio Grande Valley in Belen. Armand lived by two simple principles, "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" and "consider others as more important than yourself". He spent his life serving and caring for others. Armand was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clovis and Tillie Otero and Ernest G. Sanchez. Armand is survived by his grandmother, Libby Sanchez; his parents, Ernest and Mary Lou Sanchez; his brother, Arlin Sanchez; his sister, Andrea Downs and husband, Kirk; three nephews, Jonathan, Joshua, and Justin Downs and many loving uncles, aunts and cousins. SANDOVAL -- Lupe G. Sandoval, beloved Wife, Mother, and Grandmother, passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 80. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Andres Sandoval Jr., in March of 2010. SHULTS -- Eugene A. Shults, age 79, passed away on August 15, 2010 in Albuquerque, NM. He was born to Norman and Anna Shults in Billings, MT. Eugene served his country proudly for over 22 years in the United States Navy. Eugene is survived by his daughter, Cassandra Shults of Albuquerque, NM. SPARKS -- Charles I. (Sparky) Sparks, age 90, born February 5, 1920 and resident of Albuquerque since 1941, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2010. He is survived by his son, Michael and wife, Sandy Sparks, Las Vegas, NV; daughters, Sharon and husband, Jim Bounds, Boynton Beach, FL, and Judi and husband, Doug Champlin, Albuquerque; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Hermis Sparks and family, Meridian, ID, and Franklin, wife, Ann Sparks and family, The Dalles, OR; sisters, Arlene Christiansen and family, Des Moines, IA, and Minnie Schultz and family, Paradise, CA; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Charles is preceded in death by his wife, Helen, married for 53 years; and sons, Danny and Charles, Jr. He was the owner of Industrial Coatings Co. for 40 years. Charles was a life member of VFW Post 401. He served in the Army from 1940-1945 as a T. Sgt - Aircraft Engineer Tech during WWII, serving in Normandy, Northern France and the Rhineland Campaigns. We would like to thank the nurses and staff of Presbyterian Hospice: Pam, Betsy, and Melanie for their loving care.
