BENSON -- Don C. Benson, long time resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2010. He is survived by his sister, Marilyn Tucker of Cedar Rapids, IA; cousin, Del Eggers and wife, Lolly of Iowa City, IA; nephews, Steve Tucker and wife, Ellen, Jim Tucker and wife, Dawn all of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Brian Pressler and wife, Kristen of Eau Claire, WI, David Pressler of Elberta, AL ; nieces, Linda Rineck of Walnut Creek, CA, Kaeleen Mohr of Eau Claire, WI, and Kathy Rose and husband, Chris of De Pere, WI; sister-in-law, Helen M. Rineck of Chippewa Falls, WI; brother-in-law, David Pressler of Eau Claire, WI; and twelve grand nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death in 1991 by his wife, Joyce Benson. Don proudly served his country as a Captain of the United States Army during WWII. Following his service time he had a very successful career with Sears Roebuck. He held various management positions throughout the country and finished his career with Sears, in Albuquerque, as Merchandise Manager. Above all Don was a very loving and devoted husband to his wife, Joyce. His interests were gardening and he was an avid sports fan. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 19, 2010 at French ~ Wyoming Chapel location. Burial will take place in Belmond, IA. BIXLER -- Mildred Elizabeth Harp Bixler was born in Del Rio, Texas, September 25, 1915, to Jarvis and Annette Harp. Her father died tragically when she was nine months old. She and her mother returned to Whitewright, Texas to live with her mother's family, the James Lafayette Germans. She and her mother left Texas at age 12 when her mother married Carl Burcham, and moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. She attended the University of New Mexico, and completed her college career at Abilene Christian College in 1936. While there, she met Omar Bixler, to whom she was married for 67 years. Together, they were involved in planting and developing churches in southwest Colorado, Washington State, and the Navajo Nation. They moved to Searcy with their five children in 1957, where she taught first grade at Harding Academy, and Omar worked in development for the College. They were faithful members of the College Church of Christ for many years. Mildred was a devoted wife, mother of six, an amazing school teacher, musician, and a benevolent Christian servant to thousands. She endeared herself to everyone and was a blessing to all who knew her. She is survived by her sisters, Jane Smith of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Anne Kuhfuss of Phoenix, Arizona; five of her children, Anne Berryhill and husband, Don of Jackson, Mississippi; Sue Gilliaum and her husband Paul of Greenwood, Arkansas; James Bixler and wife Belinda of Denver, Colorado; Tim Bixler and wife Sonya of Greenville, Mississippi and Mark Bixler and wife Brenda of Valencia, California; 25 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Omar L. Bixler; son, Carl Roy Bixler; infant son, Tommy Jay Bixler; grandson, Garrett C. Bixler; and granddaughter, Sherri Gilliaum. BRANDON -- Eldon and Janice Beckelhiemer Brandon of Mannington, passed away Monday, February 8, 2010 at their residence. Eldon was born August 20, 1938 at Coldwater, OH a son of the late Myron and Fay Heckman Brandon. He retired from Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM where he was a Welding Engineer. He held a Masters of Science Degree from Colorado State University, was a member of American Welding Society, the Future Farmers of America, the Civil Air Patrol and was active with the Boy Scouts of America. He is survived by three children: Allen and Kathy Brandon of Fort Collins, Co, Scott and Marlene Brandon of Westminster, Co, and Melissa Deisher of Thornton, Co; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. In addition to his parents Eldon was preceded in death by a sister June Bollenbacher. Janice was born September 30, 1939 at Beckley, WV, a daughter of the late Roy and Juanita Stanley Beckelhiemer. She was a retired Radiation Technician at Los Alamos National Laboratories in New Mexico. Janice is survived by her four children: Charles Findley of Houston, TX, Martin Findley of Cedar Creek, TX , Juanita and Douglas Wright and Randall and Jenna Findley of Austin, TX; and six grandchildren; and a brother, Roger Beckelhiemer, Albuquerque, NM In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister Velma Baughman. Mr. and Mrs. Brandon were married on April 22, 1995 and relocated to the Mannington area to enjoy their retirement years together. They enjoyed their farm, wildlife, the outdoors and getting to know people. They were very active in the Mannington Church of the Nazarene, where together they worshipped, sang in the choir, enjoyed Southern Gospel music, and served as greeters, among other church activities. They also enjoyed Square Dancing and loved their lives together. Friends may call at the Mannington Church of the Nazarene on Saturday from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. where a joint Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jerry Dooley officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Brandon will be laid to rest in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover in a private burial service. CHAVEZ -- Adolfo P. Chavez, 88. Encircled by his family, Adolfo breathed his last breath on this earth as his soul lifted to heaven during prayer on February 14, 2010. Adolfo was born on January 6, 1922 to Manuel D. and Cecilla Padilla Chavez and grew up a farmer in Polvadera, New Mexico alongside his two sisters and two brothers, Kate, Jerry, Nadine and Benny. He went on to serve his country proudly in Africa, Southern France, and Italy during World War II, memories of which he shared with everyone he met. He married the love of his life, Maria Dolores("Lola")Lopez in 1951 and they bore three children, Geraldine, Richard, and Theresa. They recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary where he presented his loving wife with a ring. Adolfo dedicate 41 years to the US Postal Service, retiring in 1990. Among his many other talents, Adolfo was a skilled carpenter and loved to golf. Adolfo's friendly smile, sincere manner, and witty candor equaled a personality that far surpassed the small town he grew up in. The relationships he built in his lifetime are countless and the lives he touched immeasurable. Adolfo was a humble and faithful man, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, a simple farmer, hard worker, proud veteran, skilled carpenter and honest neighbor and friend. He was a man far greater than he ever knew. Through simple acts of kindness he made a mark in the lives of everyone he met. Adolfo is truely unforgettable. ESPINOZA -- Lisa K. Chavez-Espinoza, age 51, has gone to be with our Lord. She was a loving wife of 21 years to Ignacio L. Espinoza. Lisa passed away on February 12, 2010 at her home in Rio Rancho, NM, as she was surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her husband, Ignacio L. "Nash"; parents, Abel and Alyce Chavez; sister-in-law, Mary Caron and husband Sam; sister, Jessica Lynn Chavez; brother, Abel Alan Chavez and wife Michele; stepdaughters, Renee A. Jordan and Michelle L. Blair; son-in-law Michael Weisend and wife Stephanie; and grandchildren, Shane, Jordan, Sydney and Brandon. She is also survived by many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews as well as many friends. Lisa was a graduate of Rio Grande High School in Albuquerque, NM in 1976. After High School, she attended UNM and attained her Bachelors degree. Lisa loved working with children and young adults. She dedicated many years of her life to this work. Interment will be held at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM at a later date. FRANCIA -- Roman Francia, 75, born January 20, 1935, a resident of Carnuel NM, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2010, surrounded by his family and the caring staff at the Lovelace Rehabilitation Hospital. He is survived by his three children, son Alfred Francia and wife Rosemary of Roswell; daughter Roanna Padilla and husband Procopio of Carnuel; and youngest son Gilfred Francia of Carnuel; 12 grandchildren, Ashlerose, Alexandriarose, Jasmine, Procopio R. and girlfriend Courtney Ellis, Victorianna, Alejandro, Eugenio, Antonio, Emiliano, Angelina and Mykala Saiz; two sisters, Angie Tafoya and husband Gene of Albuquerque, Lupe Mares and husband Tomas of Carnuel; two brothers, Ernest Francia and wife Augustina of Albuquerque, and Candelario Francia and wife Judy of Carnuel. GALLEGOS -- Alfred Gallegos, age 67, a resident of Jarales, NM, peacefully went home to be with our Lord on February 14, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. He was retired from Piggy Wiggly and Rio Grande Conservancy District where he work for many years. Alfred proudly served our country in the National Guard. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ignacio and Stella (Sanchez) Gallegos; two brothers, Fr. Albert Gallegos O.S.M, and Moises and wife, Aureilia; three sisters, Carmen and husband, Bob Flick, Norena "Diana" Baughman and Bernadette Gallegos and his in-laws, Willie Lovato Sr. and wife, Helen. HOLMBERG -- Angela Marie Holmberg February 17, 1923 - February 14, 2010 Angela Holmberg peacefully passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Marguerite Chiado; and her brothers Tom, John, and Paul. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Henry (Bud) Holmberg Sr.; her children: Kathy (Rick) Brooks, Carol, Teresa (Kent) Lynch, Patty (Dan) Bodelson, Hank, Stefanie (Chuck) Flowers, and Jean (David) Mullin; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Her sibling, Angela Marie Chiado, of the Order of the Sisters of Charity, resides in Mount St. Joseph, Ohio. Angela graduated from the Regina School of Nursing and worked as a Registered Nurse until her marriage to Henry, after which she devoted her life to her family, church and community. Angie loved to dance. Most Saturday nights she and Bud could be found with their dear friends dancing at The Palace or El Nido until the wee hours of the morning. She was quite a fishing enthusiast, and enjoyed many weekends at Eagle Nest Lake or the Cimarron River. She showed no mercy at the poker table, and loved to bet the longshots at the track. She dearly loved all "her babies", and will be greatly missed by all. The family would like to thank her Hospice caregivers, Rachel and Debrot of Presbyterian Medical Services; and Glynnis, Laurie, Christine, Alviria, Margarita, Judy, and Jane of The Coming Home Connection for their unwavering devotion and tender care which made it possible for Angela to remain in her home. HOOVER -- Beverly A. Hoover, 63, a resident of Albuquerque, NM passed away on Monday, February 15, 2010. Beverly was born on October 28, 1946 in Marshall, MN. Beverly is survived by her husband, Pastor Lloyd Hoover; mother, Marge Verdeck of Marshall, MN; sister, Bonnie Larson of Apple Valley, MN; uncle, Frank Pape of Marshall, MN; daughter, Michele Rock of Savage, MN; step daughters, Cheryl Morford of Colorado Springs, CO and Chandra Lyons of Kaplin, LA; five grandchildren, Hillary, Kailey, Tyler, Cacey, and Kaitlin; son-in-laws, John Rock and Rex Morford. She attended high school at Marshall Catholic School and college at St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN where she received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. Beverly worked as a Financial Manager at the City of Albuquerque and owned her own Financial Consulting Business. KUEHL -- Gregory Alan Kuehl, 48, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 14, 2010 while watching the Daytona 500. He is survived by his parents, Don and Liz Kuehl; sister, Jan Wood and husband Tom; nephew, Chris Wood; nieces, Nicole and Carley Wood; aunt and uncle, Dean and Mary Kuehl and numerous cousins and friends. Greg was preceded in death by his sister, Susan Lyn Kuehl; and his beloved wife Kathy Del Angela-Kuehl. Greg lived a very active and adventurous life, which included sailing and his most recent love of racing at Sandia Motor Speedway in the Mini-stock (#55) and Legend (#5) divisions. LOVATO -- Albert J. (Cargo), born November 15, 1951 in Rodarte, New Mexico passed away on February 15, 2010. He was the son of Albert Lovato and Elia F. Leyba. He is survived by four sisters, Phoebe Aleman, Vita Aleman, Eloy Aleman, Irene Mary Madrid and Tommy and Amy Lovato; and many nieces and nephews. MARLER -- Annie V. Marler, 83, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 14, 2010 after many challenges with failing health. She is survived by son Leon Marler and wife Arlyn, and son Patrick Olaechea and wife Melinda: grandchildren Shane Marler and wife Becky, Shey Marler and wife Tamara, Calyn Ogie, Brian Olaechea, Andrea Olaechea, Jace Marler, Jill Veitch and husband Mark, Jody Marler and Chad Zipp; and great-grandchildren: Avery, Allison, Meghan and Greg. Annie was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Leon P. Marler. Loving, helpful and giving doesn't begin to describe Annie's journey throughout her life. Born December 1, 1926 in Thoreau, NM, Annie began her life of giving by caring for her horses and all of God's creatures on the ranch. She was an accomplished horse woman, basketball player for Grants High School, "Ranch Hand" and aspiring pilot. Annie moved to Taos in 1988 to manage an insurance agency after working for Consolidated Agency for 30+ years. She volunteered at a rape counseling center, worked with underprivileged children in learn-to-read programs, volunteered for numerous charities and, most importantly, became a Secular Franciscan. We know you are at peace in the arms of the Lord. We miss you mom, grandma and "Great Grannie Annie". RAMIREZ -- Abraham L. Ramirez, 61, passed away Saturday, February 13, 2010 surrounded by his loving family, after a short but valiant battle with cancer. Abraham was preceded in death by his parents, Quirino and Stella Ramirez; and baby brother Anthony. He is survived by his brothers, Albert Ramirez and wife, Irene, Arthur Ramirez and wife, Christine, Abel Ramirez and wife, Olivia, and Alex Ramirez; sisters, Alice Ramirez and Arlene Ramirez; 12 nieces and nephews; 23 great-nieces and nephews. Abraham retired from APS after 25 years of faithful service; he loved his Dallas Cowboys no matter what. Abraham was a quiet, generous, and compassionate man to his family and to all he met and will be dearly missed. Visitation will be from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at the 8th Street Chapel of Garcia Mortuary with the Rosary to begin at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:00 AM on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at St. Anne Catholic Church with interment to follow at Fairview Memorial Park. SEVIGNY -- Rita Sevigny, age 74, a resident of Los Lunas, passed away on Friday, February 12, 2010, of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lionel; and her parents, Lucien and Rosa Henri. She is survived by her children, Norman and Lisa; grandchildren, Russell, Rita, Crystal, and Paul; sisters, Blanche, Lucille, and Rachelle; and numerous nieces and nephews. Rita was raised in Levack, Ontario, Canada. She wed Lionel in 1955 and they later moved to the United States. First living in Butte, Montana, they then moved to Grants in 1968. She loved traveling, cooking, dancing, and painting. SIERRA -- Lottie O. Sierra, 82, passed away February 14, 2010. She was born on March 2, 1927, in Albuquerque, NM, to Leo and Louisa M. Candelaria. Lottie was widowed at a very young age with four children. She worked as an accountant in the civil service for the Geological Survey and Department of the Interior. Lottie's devotion to her children was immeasurable; her family was her joy in life. She was also a longtime member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church. Lottie is survived by her children, Frank Chavez, and wife Carleen, Rick Chavez, and wife Trish Baca, Lillian R. Estrada, and husband Dan Estrada, and Eileen Gregg, and partner, Bill Hort; sister and best friend, Carmen Dauber, and husband Moe, and Lita Salazar; grandchildren, Frankie Chavez, Tony Chavez, Darlene Torres, Richard Chavez, Jacob Chavez, Nico Chavez, Steve Estrada, Donny Estrada, Jesse Estrada, Lisa Duncan, John Gregg IV, and Dylan Chavez; great-grandchildren, Joseph Archuleta, Aaron Archuleta, AJ Fuentes, Emily Chavez, Josh Duncan, Danny Estrada, Ashton Duncan, and John Gregg V; special niece and nephew, Kathy Altman, and husband Alan, and Dennis Dauber. WAID -- Carmen Baca Waid, age 83, a lifelong resident of Tome and Albuquerque, passed away gently and quietly on the morning of February 14, 2010. She was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic church for over 56 years. She retired as an APS cafeteria manager and was famous for her baking. Carmen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was loved by everyone, especially the youngest of her great-grandchildren. Carmen was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Earl C. Waid; parents, Antonio and Alicia Baca; and a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Waid. She is survived by her sister; five brothers; and seven children, Earl C. Waid III and wife Patty, Eduvijen Mae Thomas and husband Steven, Joseph Waid and wife Becky, Daniel Waid and wife Frances, Rambert Waid and wife Lois, Catherine Martinez and husband Vincent, and John Waid and wife Donna. She was blessed with 25 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren. WOOD -- Lucile H. Wood, a resident of Albuquerque since 1948, died Friday, February 12, 2010. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Sara Ellis, who lived with Lucile during the last five years; Sonia Geasa and husband Frank from Pleasanton, CA; Phyllis Swigart and husband Don from North Platte, NE, Eve Whitney from Sausalito, CA, and Carolyn Plawman from Whitefish, MT. She also had many great nieces and nephews and their families, including Scott Ellis, who was like Mrs. Wood's grandson, and his wife Betty and two daughters, Katanna and Shelby, from Portales, NM. Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by her husband, Charles S. Wood of Albuquerque, NM; parents, James and Jenny Hyder of Tucumcari, NM; brothers, Otto, Colbert, and Clovis Hyder; and sisters, Vena L. Hershberger, and Mamie M. Spangenberg. Mrs. Wood was born on September 18, 1910, in Logan, New Mexico, where her parents were homesteaders. She worked for the New Mexico Extension Service, the state adjutant general and Reynolds Electric. Her home was a place where her family members and many friends always felt welcome. WRIGHT -- Marie A. Wright, 86, resident of Tijeras, passed away, after a long illness, on Sunday, February 14, 2010. She is survived by her husband, Haskel Wright, Sr.; four children, Allen Moreland and wife La June, Timothy Moreland and wife Priscilla, Jayma Conway, and Haskel Wright, Jr. and wife Cynthia; five grandchildren, and six great - grandchildren. Marie was preceded in death by her first husband Max Curtis Moreland in 1952 and her grandson, Thomas Moreland. She was born in Puyallup, WA on November 22, 1923. She and her mother moved to Carlsbad, NM in 1947 where she met and married Max Moreland. Following his death she met her current husband Haskel. They were married on June 13, 1953. In 1969 they moved their family to Albuquerque, NM. Marie was a lifetime member of the Lutheran Church and, most recently, a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Edgewood, NM. She was an avid flower gardener and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and spending time with her cats. She and her husband Haskel loved to travel in their RV. Marie's favorite travel destination was Alaska and the Northwest Territories, British Columbia. Above all, her greatest love was her children and grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 5 Entrada Del Norte, Edgewood, NM 87015 at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2010.
