BIXLER -- Mildred Elizabeth Harp Bixler was born in Del Rio, Texas, September 25, 1915, to Jarvis and Annette Harp. Her father died tragically when she was nine months old. She and her mother returned to Whitewright, Texas to live with her mother's family, the James Lafayette Germans. She and her mother left Texas at age 12 when her mother married Carl Burcham, and moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. She attended the University of New Mexico, and completed her college career at Abilene Christian College in 1936. While there, she met Omar Bixler, to whom she was married for 67 years. Together, they were involved in planting and developing churches in southwest Colorado, Washington State, and the Navajo Nation. They moved to Searcy with their five children in 1957, where she taught first grade at Harding Academy, and Omar worked in development for the College. They were faithful members of the College Church of Christ for many years. Mildred was a devoted wife, mother of six, an amazing school teacher, musician, and a benevolent Christian servant to thousands. She endeared herself to everyone and was a blessing to all who knew her. She is survived by her sisters, Jane Smith of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Anne Kuhfuss of Phoenix, Arizona; five of her children, Anne Berryhill and husband, Don of Jackson, Mississippi; Sue Gilliaum and her husband Paul of Greenwood, Arkansas; James Bixler and wife Belinda of Denver, Colorado; Tim Bixler and wife Sonya of Greenville, Mississippi and Mark Bixler and wife Brenda of Valencia, California; 25 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Omar L. Bixler; son, Carl Roy Bixler; infant son, Tommy Jay Bixler; grandson, Garrett C. Bixler; and granddaughter, Sherri Gilliaum.
