ABEYTA -- LaMorah Abeyta, 68, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2010, after a brief illness. She was born August 15, 1941 to John and Mary Arnold from Mora, NM. LaMorah is survived by her loving husband, Louis Abeyta; her two daughters, Louise Harvey and Christina Miller; son, Edward Abeyta; sons-in-law, Richard Harvey, and Nathan Miller; daughter-in-law, Candi Abeyta; two grandchildren, LaVonne Miller Urbano and husband, Joseph Urbano and Michaela Miller; and two great-grandchildren, Christiana and Nathan Urbano. Services were held Wednesday, January 20, 2010, 10:00 a.m., at First Family Church, 4701 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 7999 Wyoming Blvd. NE. ATKINS -- Carolyn Chaney Atkins died December 22, 2009 after a brief illness. She was born and spent her early life in Warrensburg, Missouri. She attended Cottey College and was a member of the PEO Sisterhood for more than 50 years. She graduated from Central Missouri State University and Missouri Valley College. In 1943 she married Walter Jackson (Jack) Atkins, a pilot in the Army Air Corps. She was an Air Force wife until moving to Albuquerque in 1966. Carolyn and Jack actively participated in the Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school, worked in the women's association, served as an elder and wrote Christian education curriculum. In New Mexico Carolyn helped found the Menaul Historical Library in 1974 and dedicated her time to the preservation of Presbyterian mission history in the Southwest. She was a trustee of the Presbyterian Historical Society in Philadelphia, serving as its first female president. She edited 12 books and a quarterly newsletter, the Menaul Historical Library Review. Carolyn taught us much about our heritage, and its value for future generations. In 2005 Carolyn moved to Pasadena, California with her daughter, Jane Atkins Vasquez and son-in-law, Edmundo Vasquez. Services will be held at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts to the Presbyterian Historical Society, 425 Lombard St., Philadelphia, PA 19147 or the Menaul Historical Library, 301 Menaul Blvd. N.E., Albuquerque, N. BLAIN -- Inez Lucille (Rice) Blain passed away peacefully after a short illness on Saturday, January 16, her 85th birthday. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rex; infant son, Douglas; two infant grandsons; and all nine of her brothers; and sisters. She is survived by her two sons, Dennis and his wife Christine, their sons, Neil and Andrew, his children Isabella and Allister; and Jack and his wife, Brenda, their children Jennifer, her daughters, Kayleen and Jestyna; Jarrett and his son, Nicholas Ray; and Cpl. Brian; and her devoted and beloved niece, Linda Simons and husband Jim; and a host of other nieces and nephews. She was born in Brewster, Kansas and married Rex in 1941 and they moved to Albuquerque in 1952. They worked for many years at Automotive Electric. Her home on Carlos Court was a haven of fun, great stories and even better cooking. She moved into Camino Retirement Home where she made many friends among the staff and residents. She was a member of Sandia Baptist Church. Inez was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, friend and will be sorely missed by all who knew her. BURCHARD -- Ruth Alene Burchard passed into the loving arms of our Lord on January 16, 2010, at the age of 85. She was born in West Texas and later became a registered nurse after training in Galveston. In 1948 she married Frank Burchard and they were blessed with a loving life together for 61 years. From their ranch in Texas, they moved to Oklahoma where they raised their two children Jan and Ray. After retirement, they settled in Albuquerque. Besides her family, Ruth loved her church ministries, traveling and bird watching. She was known for her love of God and people, her gentle spirit and generous heart. Ruth is survived by her husband, Frank; daughter, Jan Cantrell; son Ray and wife Barbara; grandchildren Deborah, Tamara, and David; brother John Bayles; and many other relatives and friends. A celebration of Ruth's life will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. at New Covenant Church, 7201 Paseo Del Norte NE. Visitation and viewing will be 1/2 hour prior to the service. CHAMBERS -- Maria Chambers, 98, a resident of Albuquerque for 14 years, died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, January 16, 2010. She is survived by her son, George Chambers and his wife Sue, of Rio Rancho, NM; sister, Irene Myrianthopoulos and husband, Matthew of Port Jefferson, NY; and other relatives and friends. Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Christ Chambers, in December 1988; brothers, Stathi Mamatas and Gus Mamatas; and sister, Frosso Gemellas. She was born on November 10, 1911 on the Island of Ikaria, Greece to Emanuel and Vasiliki Kratsas Mamatas. Maria immigrated to the United States after WWII. She met Christ Chambers, who was also from Ikaria, Greece and they were married in Pittsburgh in April of 1950. They settled in the Cleveland, Ohio area where she resided until moving to Albuquerque, NM after Christ's death. Maria was an excellent cook of traditional Greek food. She was a very hospitable person, never letting anyone leave her home hungry. Maria was a loving mother and sister and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A Viewing will be held on Friday, January 22, 2010, from 11:00 a.m. until services at 12:30 p.m., at Zeis-McGreevey Funeral Home, 16105 Detroit Ave. Lakewood, Ohio 44107. COWAN -- Nancy Cowan, 90, a resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, January 16, 2010. She is survived by sons, Cy Cowan of Artesia and Charles Cowan and wife, Gail of Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Jocelyn Cowan of Albuquerque, Melissa Cowan of Virginia and Andrew Cowan of Florida. She is preceded in death by John, her husband of 62 years. Nancy was a member of St. John's Episcopal Cathedral and was active in numerous ministries there, she was also a member of the Albuquerque Junior League, and was active in the Mental Health Association of New Mexico. He is preceded in death by his, wife Nettie (Natividad), parents Roman and Francis Ferrales DeLaO, three brothers and two sisters. Mr. DeLaO served his country during both WWII. DOMINICK -- HENRY DOMINICK Passed away January 16, 2010 peacefully at home with his family at his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Dominick Sr. and Dora Dominick; sister, Marcella Rael; cousins, Jody Dominick and Gary Delgado. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carmen Dominick; his son, James Dominick; and daughter, Michelle Dominick; sisters, Virginia Grace and Ramona Ortiz; and several nieces and nephews. Serving as Pall bearers will be: Gary Medina, Richard Roybal, Jeremy Chiolero, Frank Vigil, Dominic Delgado, and Christopher Hare. His love for children and sports led him to his most favorite activity of being a basketball coach at Kearney Elementary for many years. He was an amazing Husband, a wonderful Father, Brother and Uncle; he was also a great Friend to countless people. He will unquestionably be remembered for his loving, immensely comedic nature. DUPUY -- Ramon Dupuy, 78, a resident of Bosque Farms, peacefully passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2010. He is survived by his loving wife, Lettie Dupuy of 58 years; three sons, Randy Dupuy and wife, Paula, Joe Dupuy and wife, Julie, and Mark Dupuy and wife, Cathy; one daughter, Denise Hutcherson and husband, Bob; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Martin Bulleman and Christian Bulleman and wife, Doreen; and a loving church family. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Dupuy; grandson, Dustin Dupuy; and parents, Joseph and Lucille Dupuy. Ray retired from the Navy after 21 years of service to move on as an accountant at Lovelace Medical Center retiring after 17 years. EDMONDS -- Eleanor Virginia Edmonds. On January 16, 2010, Eleanor Virginia Edmonds continued her walk with Jesus to her heavenly home. Her joyful spirit will be welcomed there and she will be renewed. On July 28, 1924, Eleanor was born in Gurnee, Illinois. She attended school and spent most of her childhood years in Waukegan, Illinois. She moved to Albuquerque in 1960. In 1964 she married Charles Edmonds. He passed away in 1988. Eleanor was employed at several electronics assembly plants while living in Albuquerque. She retired in 1989 at the age of 65. She had active memberships in several organizations during her life. She was a member of Eastern Star for over 50 years and during her White Shrine membership, she held each and every office, including president. She was also an active member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority and American Business Women's Association. She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church for 50 years. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, five of her siblings, her son-in-law, Neel Marsh, and her husband, Charles Edmonds. Two children; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren survive her. Grandchildren; Karla Christine Gustafsson and husband Mats, Karyl Stacy Linebarier and husband, Joe, and Kari Anne Hall and husband Casey, daughters of Robert and Suzanne Thompson, and Kimberly Ann O'Roark and husband Rick, daughter of Judy and Neel Marsh. FEIST -- Lourdes Feist, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, January 16, 2010. She was born December 3, 1930 in Rodarte, NM to Antonio and Trinidad Romero. She married Kasmar in 1954. They moved to Albuquerque in 1966 where they built a loving home and raised their family. She is survived by Kasmar her loving husband of 55 years; her ten children, Michael (Monica), Theresa (Michael Gonzales), Anna (John Bazemore), Christina (Robert Hawk), Peter (Shermala), Patrick (Christina), Jon (Sandra), Paul (Kristi), Luwanda (Kevin Jarvis), and Andrew (Britny); her greatest gift of joy came from her 26 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was in the Legion of Mary for 43 years and for 34 of those years in jail ministry. She was very active at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and Spanish Choir. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 20, 2010, 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at French Lomas. Rosary will be recited Wednesday, January 20, 2010, 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church. HARRIS -- Cynthia O. Harris, M.D. passed away at home in Albuquerque, N.M. early on Saturday morning January 9, 2010. She was born on June 6, 1923 in San Francisco to Stanley G. Harris and Muriel Bent Harris. Cynthia is survived by her devoted husband of 33 years Leo O. Harris. Cynthia graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Radcliffe College in 1945 and from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in 1963. Cynthia practiced psychiatry in Cleveland, joining the Gestalt Institute in 1964. She was a published author, a trustee on many boards and a member of the American Psychiatric Association and other professional associations. Cynthia received the Eleanor Roosevelt Humanitarian Award in 2000 for her significant accomplishments. She was an ardent feminist, a committed environmentalist and a philanthropist. Cynthia loved animals and enjoyed singing and hiking. He retired from TWA after 25 years of service and traveled extensively. He loved the Lobo Basketball games, golf and making custom jewelry. MORRISON -- Loraine Morrison, 81, loving mother and grandmother, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2010. She was born April 19, 1928 in Concho, Arizona, a daughter of Rosalio and Josefina Mirabal Candelaria. She married Kenneth Morrison in the late 1960's. He passed away in 1988. Ms. Morrison graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Albuquerque. She was an elementary school teacher in Albuquerque and Kansas City, MO. Survivors include her son, Richard J. Morrison, Sr. and his wife Nicole Thomas of Albuquerque; and two grandsons, Richard J. Morrison, Jr. and Kenneth Morrison. She was preceded in death by three sisters; and one brother. PITTARD -- Fannie Lee (Bobbye) Bray Pittard went peacefully to her heavenly home on Saturday, January 16, 2010. She was born January 22, 1918, in Dalhart, Texas, the third child of Leo and Nellie Bray. She grew up on family ranches in several small NE New Mexico communities. Bobbye graduated from Clayton High School in 1936 and earned her teaching certificate from Eastern New Mexico College in 1938. Her career spanned 42 years, mostly with Albuquerque Public Schools. She was one of the first Homebound teachers, led teen study tours around the globe and earned two Masters' degrees before retiring in 1983. Bobbye was preceded in death by William F. (Bill) Pittard, her husband of 61 years. She is survived by her daughter, Billye Coey and husband, Joe of Rio Rancho, and her son, Q. Lee Pittard and wife, Sue of Pecos; her grandchildren, Amye Bronson-Doherty (Patrick) of Federal Way, WA, Hollye Kozlowski (Steve) of Rio Rancho, Kate Pittard of San Francisco, Cody Pittard (Erin) of Grosse Pointe, MI, Shawn Coey (Jaime) of Littleton, CO, Jennifer Hoak (Jason) of Albuquerque, Brian Coey (Jamie) of Edgewood, Chansce Pittard and Alice Pittard of Pecos; as well as 16 great-grandchildren. Bobbye was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, where she served in many areas. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Teachers Sorority for over 50 years and an active member of the Retired Teachers Association. She will be deeply missed by her large family, including many nieces and nephews and their families, her friends, neighbors, and colleagues. We are grateful to Presbyterian Home Hospice, her excellent in-home caregivers, and the many friends and family members who gave such fantastic support over the last year. A viewing will be held Wednesday, January 20, 2010 4:00-7:00 p.m., followed by a celebration of her life Thursday, January 21, 2010 at 1:00 p.m., both at French's Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. RAYMOND -- Bernice E. Raymond, 90, a resident of Albuquerque, for ten years, died January 6, 2010. she was preceded in death by her parents Hjelmar and Emily Larson; John Raymond, her husband of 57 years; brothers, Gilman, Merle, Odin and Lyle; sisters, Cleo Beck, Phyllis Zimmerman, and Hazel Allert. Bernice will be missed by her surviving family: sons, Bruce Raymond and wife Vicki of Albuquerque, Michael Raymond and wife Sharon of Houston; and daughter, Joan Saito and husband Takashige of Asahikawa, Hokaido, Japan; grandchild, Leigh Raymond of Kansas City, Jan Larranaga and her husband Mark of Albuquerque, Emmy Saito of Japan, and Rayna Kearney and her husband Stephen of Chicago; great-grandchildren, Marques ('Ques) Larranaga and Katherine (Katie) Larranaga of Albuquerque; sister, Emily Miller of St. Petersburg, FL and brother, Victor and wife Sherri of Saukville, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews. SERNA -- Flora G.Serna, 91, a lifetime resident of Albuquerque went home peacefully on Saturday, January 16, 2010. Ms. Serna is preceded in death by her parents; Francisco Garcia and Josephine Salazar, her husband Demas Serna, three brothers; Sam, Benny and Phillipe and three sisters; Adelina, Maria and Eloisa. She is survived by one brother-in-law, Albert B. Lucero, and several nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and great nephews. SMELTZER -- Juanita B. Miller- Smeltzer "Nita" passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2010. Nita is survived by daughters, Joy Wade, Cathie Owen, and Patricia Pittman (Jerry); seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; six step-children, Loyal Smeltzer Jr. (Louise), Sharon Hartman, Joyce Main (Carl), Gloria Saltzman (Karl), Rosetta Smeltzer and Stephen Smeltzer; eleven step-grandchildren and fourteen step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by daughter Mary Coffey, and grandson Billy Crawford. Nita was born and raised in Atlanta, Missouri and moved to New Mexico during WWII. She married Bill Miller in Albuquerque in 1946. They joined Temple Baptist Church in 1954, where she served as nursery superintendent and Sunday School teacher for many years. Their love of children lead them to raise four children and care for approximately 30 foster children. In 1965 Nita and Bill moved to Crystal, NM to serve as full time Baptist Missionaries to the Navajo Nation. The Lord called Bill Miller home in 1982. In 1990 Nita married Loyal K. Smeltzer Sr., and was widowed in 2003 when Loyal was called home as well. Family asks that donations be made to Presbyterian Hospice, Attn: Executive Director, P. O. Box 26666, Albuquerque, NM 87125-6666. Pallbearers include, Stephen Smeltzer, Chip Schane, Derren Owen, Ricky Wade, Roy Wade, and Bill Redmon. WEYER -- Joanne D. Weyer, 71, a resident of Albuquerque for 40 years, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2010. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, LaVern; four children, Daniel Weyer, Donna Alexander and husband, Gary, David Weyer, and Paul Weyer and wife, Genalyn; grandchildren, Angela Turner and husband, Troy, Alex and Andrew Weyer, Lance Alexander, James Weyer and Victoria Weyer; brothers, Bill Frank and wife, Maurine, Robert Frank and wife, Kathy, and Carl Frank and wife, Chris; and numerous other relatives and friends. Joanne was preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia; her parents, Joseph and Marie Gaherty Frank; sister, Rosemary; and one brother, Joe. She was born on March 27, 1938 in Milwaukee, WI and graduated from high school in Menomonee Falls. Joanne married LaVern Weyer on November 22, 1958. They moved to Albuquerque in 1970 where she loved to bowl, go on cruises, her birds at the lake and was a great cook. Joanne was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. WILMARTH -- Nedra Louise Finley Wilmarth Passed away January 12, 2010 in Fruita Co. Born March 1, 1917 in Paris, TX she moved and spent her childhood in Cortez, CO and married Elmer E. Wilmarth. They moved to Albuq. in 1951. She was preceded in death by Elmer and son James (Claudette). Survived by son William (Mary Wilmarth); grandchildren Scott, Jeffery (Diana), Joshua, Daniel (Pamela) and Amy Wilmarth, seven great-grandchildren and many loving family and friends. Memorial service will be held at Cortez Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. April 10, 2010.
