BOZONE -- Janice "Meme" Lorelle Bozone, on Saturday, December 26, 2009, after a courageous year-long battle with cancer, went into the loving arms of the Lord. Janice was born in Crowely, LA on September 18, 1933. As a young child, her family moved to Starkville, MS, where she finished high school. She then attended Mississippi State University where she met and married Jesse. Jan was preceded in death by her father and mother, William A. Douglas and Maudine Harpole Douglas; her brother, A. Gene Douglas; her stepmother, Bettye Scales Douglas; and grandson, baby Ryan Douglas Yeomans. She is survived by Jesse, her husband of 55 years; daughters, Alice Melissa (Lisa) Bozone, Rebecca Lea (Becky) Yeomans and husband, Paul; two grandsons, Jesse Aidan Yeomans and Griffin Wyatt Yeomans; stepbrother, Robert Scales Bernard and wife, Fran of Mississippi; sisters-in-law, Melbra (Nita) Bozone and family formerly of Albuquerque; Mary Rose Bozone of Mississippi; nieces, Linda Sanchez and husband, Norbert; Kitty O'Dwyer and husband, Bobby Price; Patricia Rash and husband, Rande; Dena Taylor and husband, Reeves; Ginny Lindsey and husband, Scott; Elizabeth Jordan and husband, John; Martina Thurlow and husband, Tom; nephews, Thomas Carl Bozone and wife, Becky; David Clark and wife, Cindy; Alan Evans III and wife, Nicole; and Will Douglas. Jan was a resident of Albuquerque for 55 years moving here after Jesse accepted a job in the city. For many years Jan was an avid tennis player and made many friends. She has enjoyed these friends for a lifetime. Modeling and dancing were also some of her favorite pastimes. Jan was a longtime member of Hoffmantown Church for many years and expressed her love for the Lord through singing alto in the church choir. During her illness, she felt blessed by the love and spiritual support expressed and provided by her bible study class and choir. The music ministry at Hoffmantown dedicated their annual Christmas musical in her honor. Jan felt so blessed by her two grandsons, Aidan and Griffin, whom she adored. She was there when they were born and thereafter spent the rest of her life watching them grow, spoiling them, attending their sporting events, and participating in their school activities. In return, they adored her and expressed it in so many ways. She and Jesse enjoyed travels in their travel trailer with friends and family. She especially enjoyed the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. The trailer was parked every year in the campground so that family and friends could be there for the early morning mass ascensions. Her grandsons said that it was their "most favorite" thing to do. Jan loved animals, especially her cats, Jesse's Labs, as well as the horses she rode while growing up in Mississippi. She used her horse to assist her father in his agriculture research projects in Mississippi. Jan appreciated nature and loved to sit in her swing on her porch and admire the many birds and hummingbirds living in her back yard. Jan's volunteer work included acting as a victim's advocate at the Rape Crisis Center. She was also a cuddler at UNM Hospital where she held babies that were premature or sick. At the time she called herself a frustrated grandmother. Of course, this was before the birth of Aidan and Griffin. During her last days, Jan was cared for by Presbyterian Hospice. The staff provided for her needs and ensured that she was both physically and emotionally comfortable. They accomplished this in a kind and loving manner, and the family will be forever grateful for their unselfish devotion. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, December 31, 2009, 11:00 a.m., at Hoffmantown Church, 8888 Harper Dr, NE. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE.
