GEORGE -- Will George, passed away peacefully with his family at his side. My loving daddy was a man who endured a lot yet showed it so little. He loved being with nature and all the wonders it had. Nature would bring him peace and joy with its beauty and endless changes. From the mountains, rivers, and lakes to all the animals that roamed there. That is where he loved to be and that is where he will always be. He is now at peace, free of all the pain and suffering he endured many years of his life. Daddy, you will never be forgotten and I will miss you deeply with love everlasting.

HENDERSON -- Leona "Lee" Hurst Henderson. Born October 5, 1920 in Pampa, Texas where she graduated from Pampa High, Class of 1938. Leona passed away on February 1, 2009 in Albuquerque, her home since 1955. As a widow, Leona began another new life then, raising her children on her own with singular devotion and unwavering support. She taught her children well about self-reliance and kindness and caring. In her life, Leona began again many times, from an east Texas farmhouse, to a laundromat in Oregon, a Houston bank and an Air Force Base in Alabama. In Albuquerque, Lee began as registrar at Del Norte High School in 1966 and at Career Enrichment Center from 1970. Lee was committed to helping students. She listened, advised and advocated for their needs as well as those of her colleagues. As an activist with the American Federation of Teachers, Lee helped APS Secretarial and Custodial workers organize to protect their interests and secure bargaining rights. Always of adventurous spirit and curious nature, summertime in the 60's Leona packed-up her kids and camped on the beaches and in the Redwood forests of California. Later she explored the forests and coasts of the Northwest with long-time friend Ernie, a kid or two and Ginger dog. After retiring from APS in 1989, Leona traveled with friends on historical, cultural and nature explorations to experience, to learn and her favorite thing, to meet people of all kinds. Leona is survived by her children Mark, Richard, David and Lisa; grandchildren Demian (deceased), Danna, Leslie, Joshua, Jordan and Aletheia; great-grandchildren Jacob, Faith Ann, Lillian, Isabel, Trystan and Dylan, and her sister Zelda. Always enamored with life in spite of the hard times she endured, Leona found the courage to overcome. And though not unscathed, Leona remained in love with life with a curious spirit, a generous nature and a kind heart. She was a friend faithful to her friends. A loving mother devoted to her children who she taught so well. In her life, Leona was much loved. With that love and admiration, she will remain in our hearts. As she wished, Leona's ashes will rest near Donner Summit in California where her beloved husband, Capt. David Howard Henderson (USAF), lost his young life so long ago. Remembrances are invited, sans flowers. Please send c/o Mark Henderson, 2726 Campbell Rd NW #23, Albuquerque NM 87104.

SACHS -- Martin F. February 7, 1907 - March 1, 1999 In Loving Memory A decade ago, dad! That's a lot of years to be apart. I must say this past year felt different. Receiving my big surprise has been comforting. As I stood next to the bed in the same place where we said our goodbyes, I noticed a delicate vine growing out of the wall and into the bedroom. I was in shock and disbelief. After standing there for a few minutes, the questions began to arise. How could this have happened? How could a living plant grow out of a wall? Recognizing that there was no earthly explanation, I realized it could be the sign I had been praying for. Never expecting anything like this. It has been comforting to say the least. You know that my love for you runs deep and I know that our bond remains strong. I also know that time cannot and will not ever erase my memories of you. For now, I remain forever--- Your loving daughter, Angeline Sachs Velasquez

YEAMANS -- William (Bill) Hughes Yeamans, 92, a resident of Los Alamos since 1954, passed away peacefully at Sombrillo on February 25, 2009. Born in Salt Lake City on October 4, 1916, Bill moved with his family to Twin Falls, Idaho, when he was about twelve and later to Portland, Oregon. During his early years, he developed a deep love of fishing, a passion for mechanics, and a sense of responsibility to family. He was very proud of becoming a Life Scout and of his work in the Civilian Conservation Corps near Red Lodge, Montana. The Yeamans family moved to Los Alamos after recruiters for Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory came to Bonneville Power and Light Administration in Oregon where he was a machinist. In Los Alamos, Bill worked for years with Explorer Post 20 because his sons were members and he thoroughly enjoyed playing a supporting role in the outdoor adventures of the Post. After retiring from LASL, Bill worked in the machine shop for Zia Company and then established his own machine shop. Bill's open-hearted and open-handed generosity found expression through his church affiliation, through the Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship International, and through his willingness to minister to others in times of need. After the Cerro Grande fire took the family home of 45 years, he could often be found on his electric scooter downtown overseeing the reconstruction of the center area. Bill Yeamans is survived by Elizabeth, his wife of 68 years; and five of his six children and their spouses: Marie Pierce of Los Alamos; Joseph of Paonia, Colorado; Mark of Reno, Nevada; David of Los Alamos; and D. Andrew of Los Alamos in addition to eleven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. His youngest son, Steven Yeamans, passed away in 1999. A service will be held for William Yeamans on March 5, at 1:30 p.m. at the New Beginnings Fellowship Church, 112 East Road, Los Alamos. The family asks those who might want to make a remembrance of William Yeamans to do an act of kindness for someone in need or to mend a rift in the fabric of their families in Bill's spirit.
