Obituary for DRAPER

Donald "Don" Henry Don Draper died Sunday, February 22, 2009 at the age of 83 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was born on June 16, 1925 in Peerless, Utah. Don was the third son of Carrie Bernice Ashbaugh and John William Draper. Don is survived by his three sons, Michael and his wife, Mary of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Danny and wife, Rona of Seattle, Washington, and Larry and his wife, Deanna of Denver, Colorado; his grandchildren, Jay and wife Heidi, Todd and wife Diana, Austin, Mitchell, Steven, Stefanie, Nicole, and Sean; and his great-grandchildren, Daphne and Justin. His siblings, John "Jack" William Draper and Bette Johnson also survive Don. He was preceded by his brothers, Clifford and Delbert Draper. Don served his country during WWII in the Merchant Marines. He married Beverley Dewar in 1945. He was salesman of the year for the Salt Lake City Board of Realtors in 1952. He owned and managed various real estate companies and construction companies in Salt Lake City, Utah, Lander, Wyoming, and Albuquerque, New Mexico. Don loved aviation. He became a pilot and joined Cutter Flying Service in Albuquerque. His love of flying led him to his involvement with the creation of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. This was one of the happiest times of his life. Don will be remembered for his efforts in the now famous balloon race. Don moved to Denver, Colorado where he started Denver Demographics. Upon his retirement, he enjoyed the open road, eventually settling in Yuma, Arizona. He loved animals, and especially his canine companion, Poppy, who he is now reunited with. He also enjoyed bird watching and always had his camera at the ready. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on a date, yet to be scheduled.
