BELL -- James Mandel Bell, age 67, passed away in his home in Tome, NM on Monday morning, November 26, 2007. Mandel was born January 16, 1940 in Albuquerque, and after stints in the US Coast Guard and the US Navy, went to work as a metal fabricator in Illinois. He returned to New Mexico and ran his own metal fabrication operation until his retirement. He was known by his many friends and family for his kindness and generosity. His mother, Olive McCaskill Bell; his two children, Eddie Bell and Mandie Bell; four grandchildren; six brothers; and two sisters, all of Albuquerque, survive Mandel. There will be a Memorial Celebration of Mandel's life on December 29, 2007 at the Tanoan Country Club, 10801 Academy Rd. NE, from 1-5 p.m. Those who knew Mandel are invited to join his family in remembering him.

BRUNELLI -- Gertrude Brunelli, of Trinidad, CO, passed away on Monday, December 3, 2007 in Albuquerque. She is survived by her sister, Sister Ann Pierre Brunelli of Albuquerque; a cousin, Father Clarence Galli of Bernalillo, and other relatives. CHAVEZ -- MARIA P. Mrs. Maria P. Chavez, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on December 3, 2007, and is now in Heaven with our Lord. Mrs. Chavez is survived by her daughter, Cathy Wilson and husband, Fletcher; stepdaughter, Josie Barajas and husband, Joe; two sisters, Kella Herrera and Nattie Saavedra; a brother, Phil Padilla and wife, Nay; two grandchildren, Angela Smith and husband, Rich and Joe Wilson; step-grandchildren, Betty Vallejos and husband, Albert, Joanne Saine and husband, John, Tommy Barajas, Patrick Barajas and wife, Gayle, and Michael Barajas; several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mrs. Chavez was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Chavez; parents, Justiniano and Josefina Padilla; a brother, Max Padilla; and sisters, Sofie Saavedra and Emily Torres; and a step-grandson, Bobby Barajas. Mrs. Chavez was a member of the Catholic Church. Visitation for Mrs. Chavez will be Thursday evening in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Gabriella Nieto. Final visitation will be Friday morning from 8:15 a.m. until 8:45 a.m. at the Shrine of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 11401 Indian School NE, with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. by Father Tom Zotter. CILUZZI -- Joseph S. Ciluzzi, 78, born on June 7, 1929, in New York City. Joseph's parents were Salvatore and Marie Ciluzzi. Joseph moved to Belmar, NJ and in 1977 moved to Albuquerque to be near his uncle, Lt. Col. Al Abbott (USA Ret). Joseph lived at Good Shepard Manor and in 1995 moved into an ARCA home. He will be buried with his parents at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Services will be held on Friday December 7, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at the Cemetery, and will be conducted by Brother Gerard Sullivan, of the Brothers of The Good Shepard, who knew Joseph for many years. CLARK -- Willard D. Clark, 82, longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away Monday, December 3, 2007. He is survived by his sister, Margaret Clark; brother, Paul Clark and wife, Marty; nieces, Terry Fanning and husband, Jerry, Roni Harness, Jerri Kendall and husband, Jim, Donna Martinez and husband, Mitchell; nephew, James Gardner; and several other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Frederica Clark; and brothers, Ward Clark, and Gene Clark. Willard worked at Sandia National Labs for 32 years and retired in 1983. He served in the US Army Medical Corp. during World II in China, India and Burma. He spent much of his free time reading and painting in watercolor and oils. DIAZ -- Charles Frank Diaz Jr. (Bandido Chuckie), 42, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on December 1, 2007. Bandido Chuckie is the beloved son to Eva Munoz and husband, Vicente. HILL -- Margaret Ruth Hill, 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1950, died Sunday, December 2, 2007. She is survived by five sons, Wayne Hill and wife, Dona of San Angelo, TX, Glenn Hill and wife, Charlene of Williams, CA, Max Hill and wife, Latricia, Larry Hill and wife, Patsy, and Terry Hill and wife, Dawn, all of Albuquerque; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Boyd and husband, Jim of Bloomfield, NM, Martha Clavel and husband, Calvin of Eagle Butte, SD; brother, Bill Myers and wife, Helen of Los Alamos, NM. HUNTINGTON -- Lucille Huntington passed away at home on December 1, 2007 in Los Lunas, NM. She was born November 19, 1915 in Selah, WA. She married Allen Huntington in 1940 and had two daughters, Judy and Jane. They spent 19 years in South America where Allen worked on dams and tunnels. Lucille home schooled her daughters, went hunting and fishing, rode horse back, gardened, and entertained. They retired to Belen, NM in 1971 and enjoyed golf, bridge and traveling. Lucille shot her first hole-in-one at age 72. They alternated trips in their RV with trips around the world. Lucille continued to travel extensively after Allen died and eventually visited 35 countries. She was a 60 year member of Eastern Star and was active in the Masonic Widows who sewed quilts that were given to Casa de los Ninos and the veterans, among others. She is survived by her daughters, Judy Coley of Los Lunas, NM and Jane Huntington of Kona, HI; her granddaughter, Gay Guajardo and her husband, Edward; two great-grandchildren, Jesse and Gabriela Guajardo of Los Lunas, NM; and many beloved friends. KITE -- Louise Pamelya Turner Kite, 93, of Gran Quivira, NM, passed away Sunday, December 2, 2007 in Albuquerque, NM. Louise was born December 26, 1913 to Jones and Myrtle (Russell) Turner in Emory, TX. She was the oldest of 13 children. She married Jack L. Kite on May 19th and was married for 74 years and 11 months at the time of his death. They had four children, Jackie Louise Kite who preceded her in death at the age of 62. Louis Kite and wife, Bea of Carlsbad, NM; Melvin Kite and wife, Carol of Kingman, AZ; Paul Kite and wife, Gale of Mountainair, NM. She is also survived by three sisters, Pauline Trout of Belen, NM; Essie Joe Chappel of Kingman, AZ and Julia Meadlock if Kingman, AZ. Louise was also blessed by 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 26 great-great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and a devoted Christian and a life long member of the Gran Quivira Church. She will be missed dearly by all. KOMONICK -- William "Bill" Komonick, born 1921 in Brooklyn, NY, beloved son of Catherine Slawski Komonick and Martin Komonick, passed away on November 30, 2007. A resident of Albuquerque since 1970, he was in the painters and Allied Workers Union, Local #823 until his retirement at the age of 70. The love of his life was his wife, Ksenia (Jennie), who he was married to for 67 years. He is survived by his daughter, Maryann Cavallaro; grandchildren, Bret, Kristen and Greg Cavallaro; great-grandchildren, Mason, Ethan, and Ryan Cavallaro, and Noralee Thompson. KROKER -- Dorothy V. Kroker, 86, passed away on Monday, December 3, 2007. She is survived by her children, George Kroker and wife, Leslie of LaCrosse, WI, Linda Bianchi and husband, Roy, of Sleepy Hollow, IL, Jeanne Guerdrum and husband, George, of Albuquerque, NM, and Kathleen Fleshren and husband, Bruce of Mascoutah, IL; seven grandchildren, Jonathan Guerdrum, Geoffrey Guerdrum, Louis Bianchi, Anna Bianchi, Molly Kroker, Elizabeth Kroker, and Kristi Kroker; and several other relatives and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Fannie Prior. She was born on March 20, 1921 in Toledo, Ohio. Dorothy served in the Armed Forces in WWII. She was an Army Nurse at the 20th General Hospital in India. Later, in 1968, she moved with her family to Albuquerque. She then began work at the VA Hospital as a nurse. Dorothy worked there until her retirement in 1989. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. LAWRENCE -- VIRGINIA L. Longtime Sacramento resident, Virginia L. Lawrence, 92, passed away December 1, 2007 in Albuquerque, NM where she had resided the past six years. Virginia is survived by her son, Brit and his wife, Debra of Chama, NM; by her granddaughter, Michelle Mulkey and her husband, Duane and great-grandchildren, Karlee and Garrett of Albuquerque; by her grandson, Rocky Lawrence and his wife, Kelly; and great-grandchildren, Ashlyn and Braeden of Albuquerque; by her nieces, Denice Shipp, Adra Ann Ames and Margaret Hart of Sacramento; and by her wonderful friend, Amelia Scivier, of the Village of Alameda in Albuquerque. In Sacramento, Virginia worked for the General Electric Company for over 30 years. She was an enthusiastic volunteer for the Los Ninos Service League for many years. She also traveled extensively and had visited every continent. Virginia will always be loved and respected for her success in life. She will be remembered most for her dedication to her family. MIERA -- Sally G. Miera, also known by many as Mama Sally, went to the Lord on December 1, 2007 after a long battle with Parkinson and Dementia. She was born June 6, 1928 in San Mateo, NM where she was also raised. She will be greatly missed by her loving family. MURRAY-REILLY -- B. LOUISE Dr. B. Louise Murray-Reilly, a former Dean of the School of Nursing the University of New Mexico died Friday, November 30, 2007 in Albuquerque. She was 90 years old. Survivors include her nephews, Bruce Harmon of Corvallis, OR and Richard Walker of Scottsdale, AZ; niece, Karen Harmon of Albuquerque; her special friend, Elsie Morosin; and many other friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Neal and Theresa Murray; and her three sisters, Mary Francis Parrott, Kathleen Walker, and Eileen Harmon; and two nephews, Daniel "Kim" Harmon and Nick Harmon. Dr. Louise Murray-Reilly was born April 9, 1917 in Portland, OR as the fourth daughter of Neal Vincent and Theresa Lugar Murray. She attended school in Portland and graduated from Grant High School. She continued her education at the University of Portland as a member of its first nursing class. In 1938, she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Nursing. In 1950, she received a Master's of Nursing from the University of Washington and in 1962, she was awarded her Doctorate of Education from Columbia University in New York. Prior to coming to New Mexico and UNM in the fall of 1969, Dean Murray-Reilly progressed through the academic ranks to Professor and Director, Maternal and Child Nursing at University of Washington in Seattle, WA. She also held a joint appointment as Instructor and Supervisor of the Pediatric Unit at King County Hospital and Instructor of Nursing at the Child Health Center, University of Washington. She also had experience as a staff nurse and head nurse in both Oregon and California. Her love was the teaching of nursing and being in the classroom with her students. Dr. Murray-Reilly became the Dean of the College of Nursing in the fall of 1969. In an interview before leaving this position, she was asked to name one of the highlights of her career and she replied, "It would have to be the satisfaction of seeing a new nursing facility designed to accommodate an innovative curriculum become a reality." Together she and the Dean William Hadley of the College of Pharmacy were instrumental in procuring funding for the construction of the much needed Nursing and Pharmacy Building which finally become a reality in 1975. Dr. Murray-Reilly served as the Dean of the College of Nursing for seven years. In 1978, following a year sabbatical, Dr. Murray-Reilly returned to her principal love of teaching. She retired as professor emeritus in 1982. Louise was an integral part in the guidance of the Republic of the Philippines in the development of its pediatric nursing program. She published extensively and was a respected member, both locally and nationally, of the nursing community. She was a member of many professional organizations, including Sigma Theta Tu, Gamma Sigma Chapter at the University of New Mexico, American Association of Nursing, the New Mexico Nurses' Association, the Visiting Nurses Association, and the Advisory Board for the Rape Crisis Center. After retirement, she met Joseph Reilly and they were married in August 1988. Louise and Joe spent their years together traveling. Joe passed away November 1993. They were very active members of The Church of the Risen Savior. Louise lived at an independent living facility before moving to Montebello on Academy in July 2003. NICHOLS -- Joan M. Nichols was born on Aug 1, 1922 in Savannah, MO and died unexpectedly on December 1, 2007. Joan lived a happy and full life as a long-time Albuquerque resident. She is survived by two daughters, Dr. Linda Kay Nichols of Albuquerque and Dr. Billie Maris Thompson and son-in-law, Dr. Kirk Daniel Thompson of Phoenix, AZ; three grandchildren, Dr. Kimberly Maris Thompson, Mark Daniel Thompson, and Alisha Nichole Nichols; four great-grandchildren, Deanna and Nima Badizadegan, Chase and Kayla Thompson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. SCHREIFELS -- Orval Matthew Schreifels, 84, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2007. Orval was born on March 9, 1923 in Wetaskiwin, Canada. He was raised in Oklahoma where he met and married his loving wife of 61 years, Millie. Orval served his country proudly in the United States Air Force for 26 years. He served in World War II and the Vietnam War. After retirement from the Air Force, he served as a Federal Security Guard for several years in Albuquerque. He was an active member of Rio Rancho Covenant Christian Church. His greatest joys came from spending lots of time with his grandchildren, playing cards, dominoes, golf, doing crossword puzzles, and passing along great jokes. Orval was preceded in death by his wife, Millie on November 19, 2007 and one son, Larry. He is survived by his son, Norm and wife, Lisa of Corrales; daughter, Sindy Dorsey of Kentucky; grandchildren, Kristen and Kali Schreifels of Corrales, Michelle Pomles and husband, Chuck of Kentucky, Ronnie and wife, Tracy of Missouri; and six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill and Bob Schreifels; and one sister, Hazel Baril, all of Florida. TORRES -- Tomasita (Tomi) Torres, age 95, very loving mother and grandmother, was called to Eternal Life by the Lord, Sunday, December 2, 2007. She was born in Socorro, NM in 1912; and was a resident of Albuquerque. Mrs. Torres was preceded in death by her parents, Hijino and Josifita Rivera; five brothers; and one sister; and her husband, Joe, to whom she was married for over 61 years. Mrs. Torres is survived by her loving children, Val Torres and wife, Dee Dee, Joe Torres and wife, Lori, Rusti Torres, Arthur Torres, George Torres and wife, Loretta, Cathy Strilich and husband, Bob; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends. WHEELER -- Lucille Edith Wheeler, 82, a resident of Rio Rancho for the past 25 years, passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2007. Lucille was born December 31, 1924 the daughter of Vincent A. and Lucy Mae Francis Burres in Suffern, NY. She was raised in Stony Point, NY, and a graduate of New York University School of Nursing. She served as an Army nurse during World War II where she was stationed in Kansas. Lucille retired from nursing in 1982. She was a co founder of the Meadowlark Senior Center, where she continued as a volunteer until the time of her death. She was an active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was loved by all who knew her. Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Albert V. Wheeler and one daughter, Claire Levitt. She is survived by one son, Vincent Wheeler of Nyack, NY; one granddaughter, Lisa Velarde of Rio Rancho, NM; three great-grandchildren, Adam Martin, Shanon Velarde, and Amanda Velarde; son-in-law, Donald Levitt of Rio Rancho, NM; and adopted daughter and longtime companion, Diana Akel of Rio Rancho, NM.
