CARR -- Earl William Carr, 79, died Sunday, September 16, 2007 with family at his side. Earl was born February 29, 1928 to William J and Irene Kelly Carr in their home at Seventh and Iron in Albuquerque. He was a graduate of Albuquerque High School and University of New Mexico with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. His college career was interrupted for service in the Army with the WWII peacekeeping force in the Philippines. Earl held various positions as a registered Electrical Engineer with PNM in Albuquerque, Belen, Las Vegas and Santa Fe and retired in Albuquerque after thirty years of service. In each community he was active in various civic organizations and held positions in Methodist churches to which he belonged. Earl was Past Master of Cerrillos #19 A.F. & F.M. Masonic Lodge in Santa Fe and Past Master of Hiram #13 A.F. & F.M. Masonic Lodge in Santa Fe. He was a member of Scottish Rite. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; son, David Allen Carr and wife, Sabrina Pratt of Santa Fe; daughter, Jo Ann and husband, Walter K. (Kris) James, of Bryan, TX; grandchildren, Ruth Elizabeth James of Van Horn, TX, Benjamin Joseph James and wife, Nichole, of Springfield, MO, Wesley Allen Pratt Carr and Barret William Pratt Carr, both of Santa Fe; niece, Carol Suzanne Triplett Towner, CA; and cousin Holly Pence, of Albuquerque. Earl was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Mary Claire Burress; sister, Beverly Jo Lynch; and niece, Sharon Triplett. Services will be held Thursday, September 20, 2007, 2:00 p.m., at Christ United Methodist Church, 6200 Gibson Blvd. SE, Albuquerque with Rev. Michael Brunk and Rev. Robert E. Whitis officiating. CONLEY -- Mildred M. Conley, 95, born in Paris, TN and a resident of Albuquerque since 1927, died Sunday, September 16, 2007. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Conley and her husband, Lester Libo; her son, Bill Conley of Angel Fire, NM; her grandchildren, Clifton Chadwick, Christopher Chadwick and his wife, Coco, and Dan Conley and his wife, Amy and Shannon Idehara and her husband, Mike; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hardy Conley and five siblings. Mildred graduated from Albuquerque High School and the University of New Mexico. She was a member of the Albuquerque Junior League and a long time member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was a teacher with Albuquerque Public Schools. She will be remembered and cherished mostly as a warm, loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. CORDOVA -- Juanita Elena Cordova closed her eyes here on Earth and opened them in Heaven on September 17, 2007. She was born on August 2, 1960 to Blasita and Ignacio Madrid. She is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Ross, her children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews, as well as extended family and friends. She fought a hard, courageous battle against cancer and devoted her undying faith, will, and love for life until the very end. Her strength and courage has been inspirational to many. She will be missed in our lives but will always remain in our hearts. CORLEW -- Ransford M. Corlew, born April 12, 1918, passed away on Monday night at the age of 89 in Albuquerque. He was born in Sioux Falls, SD, to Clarence and Evelyn Corlew. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ursula; son, Randolf and wife, Joni; grandson, Robert and wife, JoAnna; granddaughter, Shellie; and great-granddaughter, Isabella. A career military man, Ransford was a veteran of four theaters of war. He was at Pearl Harbor on December 7th, fought the Nazis in Europe, and saw combat in Korea and Vietnam. He was the recipient of both the Bronze Star and 2 Purple Hearts before his retirement from the Army in 1966. Ransford was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling the western states in his RV with his wife, prospecting, hunting and fishing along the trail. Ransford will be dearly missed by his friends and family. DAVIS -- JoAnne Taber Davis, passed away, Monday, September 17, 2007 after a brief illness. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Jim Davis; daughter, Sheryl Davis of Albuquerque; son, Mike Davis and wife, Amy and grandchildren, Josh and Jordan Davis, all of Albuquerque; sister-in-law, Betty Howard; nieces, Debi Dodge and husband, Clint, Shelly Barreras and husband, Steve, and Kim Howard; nephews, Jimmy Tudor and Cindy, Rex Howard and wife, Betty, Jeff Howard and wife, Sheila and daughter, Tina; and many friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her dad, Joe Taber and mom, Odessa Taber. She was born in Corpus Christi, TX on July 8, 1939 and moved to Albuquerque in 1949. JoAnne graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1957. JoAnne retired from APS after working as a secretary at Bandelier, John Baker, and Zuni Elementary. DAWN -- Darlene Harris Dawn, 69, a pianist and longtime resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, September 7, 2007. She is survived by her husband, David Dawn of Albuquerque; daughters, Rachel Harris Mazzulbo of Phoenix and Jennifer Harris Cassin of Baton Rouge, LA; sons, Jay Harris of Phoenix and Doug Harris of London; her mother, Dorothy Landry of Baton Rouge; sisters, Jan Bonham of Mississippi and Kathy Wang of Houston, TX; brother, Lynden Landry of Florida; grandchildren, Ben and Olivia Cassin; nieces, Karen Johnson, Dorothy Wang, Laura Landry; nephews, Harley and John Bonham, Philip Wang, Hank and Paul Landry. Darlene was a professional pianist and music teacher for 50 years, and was principal keyboardist with the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra. Her love for life and music touched all who knew her. FRIEDBERG -- Opal Maxine Friedberg, 87, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on Monday, September 17, 2007. She was born July 5, 1920 in Dix, NE to William Albert Gunderson and Carrie Louise Kronberg Gunderson. She is survived by two sons, Eugene K. Friedberg and wife, Beth of Wichita, KS and Donald W. Friedberg and wife, Rebecca of Albuquerque. She is survived by grandsons, Michael, Jason, Matthew, David, and Kevin; granddaughters, Laura and Kaylee; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Karl Morton Friedberg in 1982 and son, Robert Allen Friedberg in 2004. Opal graduated from Chadron State College with a Bachelor of Science Degree and from the University of New Mexico with a Master's Degree in Library Science. GARCIA -- Phillip Garcia 1971 - 2007 Phillip Garcia, 36, born February 5, 1971, to June and Bennie Garcia in Albuquerque, passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2007 at University of New Mexico Hospital due to a motorcycle accident in Los Lunas on September 8, 2007. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Felix and Nolia Garcia; and his maternal grandparents, Anita and Ezequiel Chavez. He is survived by his parents, June and Bennie Garcia of Los Lunas; his girlfriend of 15 years, Lisa Olguin of Isleta Pueblo and all her loving family; two brothers, Gerald Garcia and Frankie Trujillo; two sisters, Donna Armendariz and Gina Martinez, all of Los Lunas; four nieces, Christina, Evelyn, Faith and Ana; two nephews, Ronny David Trujillo and Isaiah Quintana; and a special cousin, Manuel Garcia and his family; and lots of friends and co-workers who really cared. He loved riding his motorcycle, hunting, and his Redskins, and could watch movies all day and night. He was loved by all who knew him and will be dearly missed by everybody forever, his family wrote. HOFFMAN -- IRWIN L. Born in Chicago August 8, 1927, Irwin passed away quietly September 12, 2007 after a prolonged illness. A lifelong student and teacher he will be remembered by scores of his humanities students as an exceptional, provocative teacher that they would come back to visit long after they had left his classroom. In later years he was a worldwide traveller who loved seeing Europe and the far east. His gourmet cooking found an outlet through Wednesday's Child and will be missed by not just a few palates. He is survived by his children, Joshua, Matthew, and Hepzibah; by his grandchildren, Zachary, Nigel and Iffa. Remembrances should be sent to the ACLU.
