ARMIJO -- Danny L. Armijo, 41, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on September 17, 2007. Danny is survived by his parents, Louie and Rita Armijo; his sister, Yolanda Armijo-Bayles and husband, Troy; two nieces, Sylvia Armijo Bayles and Tiffany Bayles; his nephews, Michael Armijo Bayles and Troy Bayles Jr.; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Visitation will be Friday, September 21, 2007, from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Final visitation will be Saturday morning from 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna Rd. BURGIN -- Martha J. Huffman Burgin, passed Sunday, September 16, 2007. She was born on May 6, 1920 to Otis and Annis Huffman in Springfield, IL. She was preceded in death by two younger brothers, John Huffman of Springfield, IL and Jimmy Huffman of Ocala, FL. She is survived by her husband, Arrie (Gene) Burgin, three sons, Michael L. Applegate of Albuquerque, NM, James H. Applegate of Broken Arrow, OK and Gerald R. Applegate of Erie, PA. She was blessed with, and leaves behind, eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. CARR -- Earl William Carr, 79, died Sunday, September 16, 2007 with family at his side. Earl was born February 29, 1928 to William J and Irene Kelly Carr in their home at Seventh and Iron in Albuquerque. He was a graduate of Albuquerque High School and University of New Mexico with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. His college career was interrupted for service in the Army with the WWII peacekeeping force in the Philippines. Earl held various positions as a registered Electrical Engineer with PNM in Albuquerque, Belen, Las Vegas and Santa Fe and retired in Albuquerque after thirty years of service. In each community he was active in various civic organizations and held positions in Methodist churches to which he belonged. Earl was Past Master of Cerrillos #19 A.F. & F.M. Masonic Lodge in Santa Fe and Past Master of Hiram #13 A.F. & F.M. Masonic Lodge in Santa Fe. He was a member of Scottish Rite. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; son, David Allen Carr and wife, Sabrina Pratt of Santa Fe; daughter, Jo Ann and husband, Walter K. (Kris) James, of Bryan, TX; grandchildren, Ruth Elizabeth James of Van Horn, TX, Benjamin Joseph James and wife, Nichole, of Springfield, MO, Wesley Allen Pratt Carr and Barret William Pratt Carr, both of Santa Fe; niece, Carol Suzanne Triplett Towner, CA; and cousin Holly Pence, of Albuquerque. Earl was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Mary Claire Burress; sister, Beverly Jo Lynch; and niece, Sharon Triplett. CONLEY -- Mildred M. Conley, 95, born in Paris, TN and a resident of Albuquerque since 1927, died Sunday, September 16, 2007. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Conley and her husband, Lester Libo; her son, Bill Conley of Angel Fire, NM; her grandchildren, Clifton Chadwick, Christopher Chadwick and his wife, Coco, and Dan Conley and his wife, Amy and Shannon Idehara and her husband, Mike; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hardy Conley and five siblings. Mildred graduated from Albuquerque High School and the University of New Mexico. She was a member of the Albuquerque Junior League and a long time member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was a teacher with Albuquerque Public Schools. She will be remembered and cherished mostly as a warm, loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. CORDOVA -- Juanita Elena Cordova closed her eyes here on Earth and opened them in Heaven on September 17, 2007. She was born on August 2, 1960 to Blasita and Ignacio Madrid. She is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Ross, her children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews, as well as extended family and friends. She fought a hard, courageous battle against cancer and devoted her undying faith, will, and love for life until the very end. Her strength and courage has been inspirational to many. She will be missed in our lives but will always remain in our hearts. CORLEW -- Ransford M. Corlew, born April 12, 1918, passed away on Monday night at the age of 89 in Albuquerque. He was born in Sioux Falls, SD, to Clarence and Evelyn Corlew. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ursula; son, Randolf and wife, Joni; grandson, Robert and wife, JoAnna; granddaughter, Shellie; and great-granddaughter, Isabella. A career military man, Ransford was a veteran of four theaters of war. He was at Pearl Harbor on December 7th, fought the Nazis in Europe, and saw combat in Korea and Vietnam. He was the recipient of both the Bronze Star and 2 Purple Hearts before his retirement from the Army in 1966. Ransford was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling the western states in his RV with his wife, prospecting, hunting and fishing along the trail. Ransford will be dearly missed by his friends and family. DAVIS -- JoAnne Taber Davis, passed away, Monday, September 17, 2007 after a brief illness. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Jim Davis; daughter, Sheryl Davis of Albuquerque; son, Mike Davis and wife, Amy and grandchildren, Josh and Jordan Davis, all of Albuquerque; sister-in-law, Betty Howard; nieces, Debi Dodge and husband, Clint, Shelly Barreras and husband, Steve, and Kim Howard; nephews, Jimmy Tudor and Cindy, Rex Howard and wife, Betty, Jeff Howard and wife, Sheila and daughter, Tina; and many friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her dad, Joe Taber and mom, Odessa Taber. She was born in Corpus Christi, TX on July 8, 1939 and moved to Albuquerque in 1949. JoAnne graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1957. JoAnne retired from APS after working as a secretary at Bandelier, John Baker, and Zuni Elementary. DAWN -- Darlene Harris Dawn, 69, a pianist and longtime resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, September 7, 2007. She is survived by her husband, David Dawn of Albuquerque; daughters, Rachel Harris Mazzulbo of Phoenix and Jennifer Harris Cassin of Baton Rouge, LA; sons, Jay Harris of Phoenix and Doug Harris of London; her mother, Dorothy Landry of Baton Rouge; sisters, Jan Bonham of Mississippi and Kathy Wang of Houston, TX; brother, Lynden Landry of Florida; grandchildren, Ben and Olivia Cassin; nieces, Karen Johnson, Dorothy Wang, Laura Landry; nephews, Harley and John Bonham, Philip Wang, Hank and Paul Landry. Darlene was a professional pianist and music teacher for 50 years, and was principal keyboardist with the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra. Her love for life and music touched all who knew her. FRIEDBERG -- Opal Maxine Friedberg, 87, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on Monday, September 17, 2007. She was born July 5, 1920 in Dix, NE to William Albert Gunderson and Carrie Louise Kronberg Gunderson. She is survived by two sons, Eugene K. Friedberg and wife, Beth of Wichita, KS and Donald W. Friedberg and wife, Rebecca of Albuquerque. She is survived by grandsons, Michael, Jason, Matthew, David, and Kevin; granddaughters, Laura and Kaylee; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Karl Morton Friedberg in 1982 and son, Robert Allen Friedberg in 2004. Opal graduated from Chadron State College with a Bachelor of Science Degree and from the University of New Mexico with a Master's Degree in Library Science. GARCIA -- Phillip Garcia 1971 - 2007 Phillip Garcia, 36, born February 5, 1971, to June and Bennie Garcia in Albuquerque, passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2007 at University of New Mexico Hospital due to a motorcycle accident in Los Lunas on September 8, 2007. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Felix and Nolia Garcia; and his maternal grandparents, Anita and Ezequiel Chavez. He is survived by his parents, June and Bennie Garcia of Los Lunas; his girlfriend of 15 years, Lisa Olguin of Isleta Pueblo and all her loving family; two brothers, Gerald Garcia and Frankie Trujillo; two sisters, Donna Armendariz and Gina Martinez, all of Los Lunas; four nieces, Christina, Evelyn, Faith and Ana; two nephews, Ronny David Trujillo and Isaiah Quintana; and a special cousin, Manuel Garcia and his family; and lots of friends and co-workers who really cared. He loved riding his motorcycle, hunting, and his Redskins, and could watch movies all day and night. He was loved by all who knew him and will be dearly missed by everybody forever, his family wrote. HOFFMAN -- IRWIN L. Born in Chicago August 8, 1927, Irwin passed away quietly September 12, 2007 after a prolonged illness. A lifelong student and teacher he will be remembered by scores of his humanities students as an exceptional, provocative teacher that they would come back to visit long after they had left his classroom. In later years he was a worldwide traveller who loved seeing Europe and the far east. His gourmet cooking found an outlet through Wednesday's Child and will be missed by not just a few palates. He is survived by his children, Joshua, Matthew, and Hepzibah; by his grandchildren, Zachary, Nigel and Iffa. Remembrances should be sent to the ACLU.

MONTANO -- Lalie Montano, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 18, 2007. Lalie loved the Lord and she always looked beautiful. She was greatly loved and will be truly missed. ORTEGA -- Orlando Ortega, 65, beloved husband, father, brother, and uncle, was taken from this earth suddenly on Sunday, September 16, 2007. Born in Las Vegas, NM, he was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Tillie Ortega; along with his brothers, Joe Ortega and Robert (Bobby) Ortega. Orlando is survived by his wife, Lila; son, Paul and Megan; brothers and sisters, Carmen Lowe, Lawrence and June Ortega, Wilfred Ortega, Dorothy Correa, Theresa and Al Bustamante; sister-in-law, Marcella Ortega; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews who affectionately know him as "Uncle Goofy." He is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins and many co-workers, co-retirees, friends, and neighbors. Orlando was a 1961 graduate of Albuquerque High School and attended the University of Albuquerque where he received his degree in Nursing. After 31 years of working as a Registered Nurse at Presbyterian Hospital, Bataan Memorial Hospital and the Veterans Administration Medical Center, he retired in May of 1998. Orlando was an ardent UNM Lobos fan. He was also an avid reader of any and everything printed. He loved to travel, visiting Australia and Europe and made his way through 48 of the 50 states by car. He loved and enjoyed the arts and music of all genres. To his family and friends, he was a source of strength, humor, compassion, wisdom and love. He will be greatly missed. A Celebration of his life, through the music he loved so dearly, will be held on Friday, September 21, 2007, 4:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel. RICH -- JOSEPH Funeral Mass for the Honorable Judge Joseph Rich, 77, of Rio Rancho, NM was held on Thursday, August 30, 2007, 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart cathedral in Gallup, NM. The Very Rev. Lawrence O'Keefe will be the Celebrant. Burial took place on Friday, August 31, 2007, 1:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM. A Rosary was recited on Wednesday, August 29, 2007, 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Judge Rich was born on June 8, 1930 and passed away on August 26, 2007 in Rio Rancho, NM. Judge Rich retired from the Bench in 2006. Rich graduated in 1952 from Eastern Kentucky University and later served in the U.S. Army, 25th Division, in Korea. In 1957, he earned a law degree from the University of Cincinnati Law School and was admitted to the Ohio Bar and the Kentucky and New Mexico Bars soon thereafter. He took a brief break from his legal studies and worked as special agent for the FBI in Albuquerque, Hobbs, Farmington and Gallup from 1957 to 1960. But his career with the FBI ended when the agency asked him to leave the area for Chicago. Rich was then married to his late wife, Barbara and was expecting their first child and didn't want to uproot his family. In subsequent years, Rich worked as an assistant district attorney in San Juan and McKinley Counties and opened a private practice in 1975. In 1982, he became the southwest regional chief trial attorney for the risk management division of the Navajo Nation. Rich was then appointed as a McKinley County district judge on October 1, 1988 and was re-elected in November 1990 and 1996. He retired on July 1, 2006. His community involvement includes past stints as Director of both the Gallup-McKinley County Chamber of Commerce and the McKinley County Red Cross, and as President of the McKinley County Bar Association. Judge Rich received his undergraduate degree from Eastern Kentucky University and his law degree from the University of Cincinnati. He is survived by his children: Lauren Rich of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Joseph Rich, Jr. of Farmington, NM, Amy Rich of Albuquerque, NM, Paula Rich Pruitt of Albuquerque, NM and Stephen Rich of Albuquerque, NM; brother: Stephen Rich of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren: Therese Rich of Phoenix, AZ, Joseph Angelo Rich of Farmington, NM, Emily Rich of Farmington, NM, Isabella Rich of Farmington, NM, Chole Pruitt of Albuquerque, NM, Thomas Pruitt, Jr. of Albuquerque, NM, and Cheyanne Rich of Albuquerque, NM. He was preceded in death by his wife: Barbara DePauli Rich on August 28, 2001; brothers: Keith Rich and James Allen "Babe" Rich; parents. STOVER -- James Robert Stover Jr., who was born January 18, 1956 in Moab, UT, went home to rest in peace early Saturday morning, September 15, 2007. He is survived by his wife, Dolores; daughters Jenni Stover of Colorado, Jonni Stover of Colorado, and Jessieray and Neil Ortega of Albuquerque; granddaughters, Anastasia and Lillie Love of Colorado; his mother, Dorothy Stover of Albuquerque; sisters, Janet Stover of Los Lunas, Penny and Steve Miller of Oklahoma, Carolyn and Kenny Fitzsimmons of Oklahoma; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews whom adored their uncle; also family and friends from near and far. He was preceded in death by his father, James Sr.; brother, Wesley Jay; nephew, Michael Jay; and his grandparents. James was a kind-hearted person who knew a lot about everything. He was a great friend, lover, teacher, son, brother, uncle, grandpa, and father. A loving man. James resided in New Mexico with his wife of 25 years. James graduated from Grants High and ITT Tech, Phoenix, AZ. He worked as a master mechanic in the nuclear industry in Utah and NM. For numerous years, he managed Rio Puerco Chevron, and was previously employed with King Brothers Ranch as a mechanic. He tinkered with just about everything from an early age, and had a passion for re-building classic cars, dune buggies, hover crafts, anything motorized. His latest passion was building mow-glides. He was an avid fisherman, even built his own canoe. From an early age he hunted and currently he was a scout for friends. WHITLEY -- ROBERT Mr. Robert "Mig" Whitley, 90, of LaGrange, GA, passed away Friday, September 14, 2007 at Hospice LaGrange. He was born April 29, 1917 in Randolph County, AL, the son of the late Thomas Matthew and Etta Jane Brown Whitley. He grew up in LaGrange and later moved to Albuquerque, NM. In 1980 he retired as a furniture salesman and moved to Thomaston, then to Tracy, CA and finally returned to LaGrange. Each place he lived he was active in his church. He was a deacon at First Baptist Albuquerque for over 20 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church on the Square and helped in the Community Soup Kitchen. He was a down to earth humble man who wanted to be a servant. Survivors include his wife, Hazel Partain Whitley; a son and daughter-in-law, Wesley and Ruth Whitley of Greenleaf, ID; a daughter-in-law, Ann Whitley of Chandler, AZ; sisters, Lola Williams, Obie Geter and Esther Cline, all of LaGrange; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Whitley, Jr.; and brothers, Oliver Whitley, Walter Whitley, and Chester Whitley; and a sister, May Duke. A Memorial Service was held at the Ida Cason Callaway Chapel of the First Baptist Church on the Square with Dr. Paul R. Baxter officiating.
