FRIEDBERG -- Opal Maxine Friedberg, 87, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on Monday, September 17, 2007. She was born July 5, 1920 in Dix, NE to William Albert Gunderson and Carrie Louise Kronberg Gunderson. She is survived by two sons, Eugene K. Friedberg and wife, Beth of Wichita, KS and Donald W. Friedberg and wife, Rebecca of Albuquerque. She is survived by grandsons, Michael, Jason, Matthew, David, and Kevin; granddaughters, Laura and Kaylee; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Karl Morton Friedberg in 1982 and son, Robert Allen Friedberg in 2004. Opal graduated from Chadron State College with a Bachelor of Science Degree and from the University of New Mexico with a Master's Degree in Library Science. Services will be held Saturday, September 22, 2007, 11:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. Interment will follow at a later date at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, NM. GONZALES -- Serafin Gonzales Sr., 90 a resident of La Madera, La Guapa, and Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away Monday September 17, 2007 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was born in La Ghuapa, New Mexico to Eutimio and Margarita Gonzales on December 28, 1916. He is survived by his wife, Ciria Gonzales of 71 years; and his children, Feda Chavarirra and her husband, Carlos of Albuquerque, Gennie Aragon and Gilbert of Albuquerque, Helen Aragon of Albuquerque, Mary and her husband, Walter of Albuquerque, Larry Gonzales and Mary of La Madera, Gloria Vella and her husband, Lou of Nebraska, Tina and her husband, Greg of Rio Rancho, Tony and his wife, Dina of Albuquerque, Connie and her husband, Juan of Tucumcari, Servie Jr. and his wife, Geri of La Madera and Paul Gonzales of La Madera. Serafin is also survived by his brother, Juan Gonzales of La Ghuapa; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren; and his special friends, Mark De Frate and his "Primo". He was preceded in death by his parents, Eutimio and Margarita Gonzales of La Ghuapa, New Mexico; son, Juanito Gonzales; and brothers and sisters. Serafin grew up in La Ghuapa and La Madera area Serafin and Ciria raised their children in Albuquerque and on the ranch in La Ghuapa , he was a hard worker on the ranch, he also held a job as a dump truck owner/operator. Serafin was a very loving father to his children, he renewed his vows to his wife for their 50th and 65th wedding anniversaries, he devoted his whole life to his wife and children and their families. In La Madera area there was never a stranger that he would not stop to help. He was loved by all whom new and loved him and will be missed very much by his family and friends. Serafin will lie in state Wednesday September 19, 2007 at the Harris- Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A Rosary will be recited that evening at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Catholic Church in Tijeras, NM. A Celebration of Mass will be held Thursday September 20,2007 at Holy Child Catholic Church in Tijeras, NM at 10:00 a.m. with Father Mark Granito officiating. Interment will follow at La Madera Cemetery in La Madera, NM. Pallbearers are George Gallegos, Donald Sanchez, John Aragon, Antonio Gonzales, Johnny Quintana, and Josh Resner. GRABILL -- Barbara Grabill, 74, a resident of Albuquerque since 1983, died Sunday, September 16, 2007. She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Robert Grabill; daughter, Linda Harris; son, Robert Boatright; daughters, Lisa Boatright, Jamie Boatright, and Angela Browning; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; mother, Effie Burris; brothers, Ray Shelton and Ron Burris. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and per her request, no funeral services will be held. She will be greatly missed by her family. JARAMILLO -- Ramona S. Jaramillo, age 86, a lifelong resident of Belen, NM, peacefully passed away while surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at her daughters home, Nila Baker in Rio Rancho, NM. She was born to Adolfo and Severa Padilla Silva on March 31, 1921 in Belen. Ramona was an active devout member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. She was dedicated through love to Saint Padre Pio. Ramona was coordinator for the Padre Pio Group for over 30 years. She was a Third Order Servite member. Ramona was a long time member of the Spanish Choir and a member of the Legion of Mary. She was a homemaker and a loving mother who was devoted to her family. Ramona was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Margarito Jaramillo; her parents, Adolfo and Severa Silva; five brothers, Prospero, Miguel, Lalo, Abran, and Fidel Silva; and two sisters, Josefita Madero and Emma Garcia; Ramona was the last of the Silva family. Ramona is survived by her six loving children, Nila Baker and her husband, Leonard of Rio Rancho, Toby and his wife, Ermie of Socorro, NM, Dina Paulik and her husband, Jim of Dallas, TX, Ruben and his wife, Becky of Belen, Steve and his wife, Dinah of Los Chavez, NM and Andrew of Belen; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; five sisters-in-law, Margaret, Dolores and Rafelita Silva, and Eufelia and Rachel Jaramillo; one brother-in-law, Joe Aragon; and her many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is also survived by her extended family, Our Lady of Belen Catholic Choir and her Padre Pio Friends. Services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, on Wednesday, September 19, beginning with a public viewing at 6:30 p.m. and a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A final visitation will be held on Thursday, September 20, at 10:30 a.m. with a Funeral Mass to be concelebrated at 11:00 a.m. with Father Stephen Schultz presiding. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Toby Michael, Steve Jr., Kevin, Andrew Steven and Lucas; and great- grandsons, Mario Jaramillo and Ryan Tafoya. LABERGE -- John Eugene LaBerge 1926-2007 John passed away Saturday, September 15, 2007 after a decade long battle with cancer. He died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family. John was born on May 17, 1926, in Ladysmith, Wisconsin to Archie and Louise LaBerge, he was the fifth of 12 children. John leaves a loving and extended family: His adoring wife of 59 years, Viola; son, David LaBerge and wife, Bea of Rio Rancho; grandson, Bryan LaBerge and wife, Allyson, their daughter, great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Jean, all of Rio Rancho; Grandson Craig LaBerge-Esparza and partner, J.R of Albuquerque; daughter, Linda Maes of Los Alamos; granddaughter, Angela Maes and partner, Jeremy Hasted, their children, great-grandsons: Ezra Leigh, Kristian Neil, and John David, all of Santa Fe; granddaughter, Marisa Maes of Santa Fe; daughter, Janine LaBerge and partner, Christina of Denver; son-in-law, Frank Maes of Rio Rancho; daughter-in-law, Luanne Buden of Albuquerque who is still a treasured member of the family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Louise LaBerge; brothers, Donald and Francis LaBerge; sisters, Lorraine Giles and Betty Silvernale; and tragically, his son Ron in 1976. He graduated high school in 1944 and joined the US Army later that year. He served honorably in WW II. After his discharge in 1946, he moved to Los Alamos early in 1947. John met his lovely wife Viola in Wisconsin in 1945. Viola moved to Los Alamos in 1947. Their romance blossomed and they were married on January 23, 1948 in Santa Fe, NM. Their years in Los Alamos were full of friends and adventure. He worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory. John loved his work so much he took only 1 sick day in all his 35 years. He retired from LANL in 1983 and took a consultant position at New Mexico Tech in Socorro. He helped pioneer the CETR (Center for Explosive Technology Research). He retired from NM Tech in 1987. John had many interesting hobbies and pastimes. Both John and Viola were student pilots in the late 1940s, and enjoyed flying into Santa Fe and Espanola airports. He was an avid and successful hunter and enjoyed fishing and water skiing. He took his family on many memorable boating weekends at El Vado and Abiquiu reservoirs. He both loved and respected the great outdoors. He enjoyed traveling, and with Viola, they visited Hawaii, Alaska, took several cruises, and many road trips all across this great country. Los Alamos community will remember John as the Premier Shade-Tree mechanic. He graced many vehicles with his wrenches and his love of ALL things mechanical is evidenced by his well used home garage where he passed on his knowledge and skills to anyone willing to learn. He was a gracious host to any visitor at his home. Anyone who spent more than a moment with John knew he was easy to converse with and usually had a humorous anecdote to share. John enjoyed life and will be missed very much. A Memorial Service will be held at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church on North Road in Los Alamos on Saturday, September 22, 2007 at 11 a.m. A reception will follow the Service in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Los Alamos Visiting Nurse Service or The Cancer Institute of Santa Fe. OFFICER -- William "Ken" Officer was born August 29, 1932 in Los Lunas, New Mexico and passed away September 16, 2007 in Albuquerque. He was delivered by his Grandfather, Dr. William Frederick Wittwer. Ken spent his childhood making rounds with his Grandfather to patients, often on horseback when patients frequently paid with chickens and tortillas. He graduated from high school at the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, and a Masters in Engineering Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He married Beverly Lila Woolfall June 5, 1954 and was commissioned as a pilot in the United States Air Force. During his 28 year career, he was stationed at over 15 bases. He flew B-66 bombers in England and France, carrying nuclear weapons in the Cuban Missile Crisis. Colonel Officer retired in 1982 from the United States Air Force as a Command Pilot with over 5,000 hours of flying time in various aircraft, including 628 combat hours. His military decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross, Legion of Merit, Presidential Unit Citation, and the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters. The love of his family and country were the most important things to Ken. He enjoyed gardening, swimming, traveling, and fishing in the Box at Corkins in Chama. He is survived by his wife, Bev of Albuquerque; daughter, Karen Officer of Jerusalem, Israel, daughter, Paula Petry of Gillette, Wyoming; son, Ted Officer of Atlanta, Georgia, and his brother, John "Butch" Allen of California. He has five grandsons and his devoted dog Duffy. A memorial service with military honors celebrating his life will be held Thursday September 20, 2007 at 4:00 p.m. in Gardener Ken's back yard, his heaven on earth. RIVERA -- T. Evangeline Rivera, born December 14, 1931, in Santa Fe, NM, passed away on September 14, 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband, Juan G. Rivera. ROEBUCK -- Joyce Roebuck, born January 19, 1918, passed away on September 6, 2007 at age 89. Joyce loved teaching in Plymouth, Michigan during and after WWII. She volunteered at Plymouth First United Methodist Church, was past president of the Garden Club and a Master Gardener. She was a wonderful seamstress, enjoyed preparing meals for her family and raising her children. Her soulmate, Harry preceded her in passing after 57 years of marriage. Mom was easy-going but insistent that everybody be ready to sit down to dinner at the same time, when even weekday meals were lavish. She made sure her family was secure, but was willing to let her children steer their own lives. She allowed her garden to spread, but set borders to keep it from overgrowing. She was open, honest and focused on the beauties of life. She is survived by her three children: Charles Roebuck of Michigan, Alan Roebuck and wife, Cyrene of Michigan, Shirley Staehlin and husband, Robert of Albuquerque; and two grandchildren, Shane Roebuck and Tiana Staehlin.
