ANTTILA -- Helga Anttila, 91, passed away on August 22, 2004. She was born June 7, 1913 in Duluth, MN. She came from strong-willed people both spiritually and physically. She was an Albuquerque resident for 35 years and a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; four brothers; her husband of 48 years, Harry; and two children; and one great-granddaughter. Helga is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Gilbertson and husband, Jim of Albuquerque, NM; grandsons, Michael Gilbertson and wife, Katey of Phoenix, AZ, Matthew Gilbertson and wife, Jennifer of Spokane, WA; great-granddaughters, Mary Elizabeth and Leah, and great-grandson, Cameron; sister-in-law, Viola Mattson and husband, Tom; brother-in-law, Clarence Butterfield and many nieces and nephews. ARAGON -- Mrs. Lugarda C. Aragon, 82, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on September 17, 2004. Mrs. Aragon is the beloved wife to Mr. Tom Aragon, married for 63 years. Mrs. Aragon is also survived by one daughter, Eleanor Baca and Charlie Sanchez; four sons, Tom Aragon Jr. and wife, Ann, Benny Aragon, Joseph Emilio Aragon Michael Aragon and wife, Shirley; four sisters, Irene Vigil and husband, Joe, Mary Garcia and husband, Diego, Josie Saiz and husband, Paul, Dora Gonzales and husband, Gilbert; three brothers, Andy Garcia and wife, Denise of Las Vegas, NV., Emilio Chavez and wife, Mable, Blas Chavez and wife, Rosie; 18 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Aragon was preceded in death by her sister, Mercy Adams. Mrs. Aragon was a member of the Catholic Church and a member of the Blue Army. A visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 4:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church, 2005 Plaza NW with a Rosary to be recited at 5:00 p.m. A final visitation will be Monday Morning in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel, 1000 Old Coors Dr. SW from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. BRYANT -- Ralph (Sonny) Bryant died in his sleep of apparent heart failure Thursday evening, September 2, 2004. He was 50 years of age. Mr. Bryant had been a resident of Rio Rancho, NM for over 30 years having come to New Mexico in 1973 after attending the University of Michigan. He was employed by the State of New Mexico Penitentiary in 1979 rising to the rank of Sergeant. Subsequently, Bryant transferred to the Department of Health where he was employed at the Sequoia Adolescent Treatment Center as a psychiatric technician since 1994. Bryant was active in the Rio Rancho Sons of the American Legion Post 118. He enjoyed bowling, golf, and music. Services will be held at the American Legion Post 118 located at 1500 Barbara Loop, Rio Rancho on Sunday, September 26, 2004 from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. The family has asked that contributions to the American Legion Children & Youth Fund be made in lieu of flowers.

DUNCAN -- Georgena Duncan, 69, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, passed away on Monday, September 13, 2004. She is survived by her son, Kyle Duncan and wife, Christine of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Kayla Duncan and the Vallejos Family all of Albuquerque; also her cousins, Dr. Jolynn Galvin and husband, Steve Hooper of Albuquerque, Patti and Rodney Thompson and Vic and Beverly Turner all of Seattle, WA; and many special friends. Georgena was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Duncan in 1991. She graduated from Springer High School and worked as a telephone operator for many years. Georgena was a member of the Eastern Star. JOHNSON -- Cheryl Dee Johnson, 55, passed away on Monday, Septemer 13, 2004 after a brief illness. Cheryl was born in Britton, SD on February 9, 1949 and has lived in New Mexico for the past eighteen years. Cheryl was a Director of Student Services at Albuquerque TVI for the past ten years. She worked previously at the University of New Mexico - Valencia Campus as a Senior Academic Advisor and head of testing. Cheryl enjoyed working with students in her post-secondary work. She was also an accomplished licensed Professional Counselor who was passionate about assisting others in realizing their goals. Cheryl is remembered for her zest for life and her love of music and dancing. She also enjoyed working in her flower garden, attending UNM football games, and especially the UNM Women's basketball games. Cheryl was loved and respected by all who came in contact with her. She will be sorely missed. Cheryl was preceded in death by her father, Marion Johnson. She is survived by her husband of ten years, Raymond H. LONG -- Martha Lee (Miller) Long was born March 24, 1921 in Alamogordo, NM and grew to adulthood at Mayhill, NM. She passed away September 15, 2004. She is survived by Richard Adam (R.A.) her loving husband of 65 years. She is also survived by five children, to whom she was a devoted mother: Richard Adam, Jr. and his wife, Linda of Grand Junction, CO; Virginia Hutson and her husband David of Lufkin, TX; Joe and his wife, Gloria of Belen, NM; Olive Balla and her husband, Victor of Los Lunas, NM; and Ernest and his wife, Karla of Kwajalein, Marshall Islands. She was grandmother of thirteen and great-grandmother of fifteen. She has two living brothers, Clarence Miller of Twin Falls, ID; and Richard Miller of Bloomfield, NM; as well as one sister, Mildred Stone of La Luz, NM. Education was especially important to Martha Lee. She was a retired public school teacher, having taught elementary school in Roswell and Gallup, NM, for 25 years. She also taught Sunday School at the various Baptist churches where R.A. pastored throughout her lifetime. She played the piano and encouraged her children to do so as well. Some of her favorite times were those when family gathered around the piano and sang old hymns. She was a proud contributor to the New Mexico Boy's and Girl's Ranches, and the well being of the boys and girls meant a great deal to her. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Los Chavez, NM, where R.A. is Pastor Emeritus. Services will be held at First Baptist Church of Los Chavez with visitation at 9:30 a.m. and funeral services following at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 18, 2004. Graveside services will take place at Terrace Grove Cemetery in Belen, NM. Martha Lee's grandsons will be her pallbearers. LOPEZ -- Beatriz "Beatrice" P. Lopez, age 90, a resident of Bosque, NM passed away early Thursday morning, September 16, 2004 at home. Beatriz was a graduate of St. Joseph College in Albuquerque with a Bachelor of Science Degree and taught school in Socorro County, Magdalena, NM, La Joya, NM., and for the last 20 years at the Belen Consolidated Schools. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Belen. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas and Rumaldita Pacheco; brothers, Florenio and Juan Pacheco; and a sister, Alice P. Chavez. Beatriz is survived by her husband of 60 years, Florentino Lopez of Bosque; brother, Gilly B. Pacheco of Albuquerque; sisters, Libby Pacheco of Albuquerque; Lily and husband, Jerry Jaramillo of Lancaster, CA., Betty Barela of Belen; and several nieces and nephews. MARSH -- Dr. Dean E. Marsh, 80, a 40 year resident of Belen, passed away quietly in his sleep in the presence of friends and family on September 15, 2004. A kind-hearted and gentle humored man is survived by Margaret "Peggy" Marsh, his devoted wife of 50 years. Dean is survived by his four children, Brad Marsh and wife Lisa, Gayle Marsh and partner Robyn, Brian Marsh and wife Kelly, Todd Marsh and wife Tonya; and six grandchildren, Curtis, Justin, Derek, Dean, Cory, and Chelsea. He was preceded by death by his brother, Lester Marsh; and sister, Alberta Elder and surviving sisters; Honee Runk and Kay Henneman. A 1952 graduate from Lincoln Chiropractic College, he dedicated his life to the Chiropractic profession for the past 5 decades. His many accomplishments are measured by the people's lives he touched as there is no greater gift a man can give than to compassionately care for others. He truly was the greatest man we knew. He had also served on the NM Board of Chiropractic. Dr. Marsh was a Masonic Past Master and an active member of Bethlehem Lodge #56 A.F. & A.M. He was a member of Jessamine Chapter #45 Order of Eastern Star. "Dad" Marsh dedicated many years of service to Harmony Chapter Order of DeMolay for Boys and Belen Assembly #11 Order of Rainbow for Girls. Dr. Marsh was a member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church. Dean's love for music was evident by his love of playing the piano and organ. He often could be heard playing and dedicating "Peg of My Heart" in honor of his loving wife. A Masonic service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 20, 2004 at St. Philip's Episcopal Church, 113 La Luna Place in Belen, and a Rite of Passage Service immediately following at 11:00 a.m. A celebration of Dr. Marsh's life and legacy will follow immediately after the services at the Masonic Lodge at 607 Goebel St. in Belen. MENDELSON -- Oscar Mendelson, 78, a resident of Albuquerque, died Tuesday, September 14, 2004. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sharon Mendelson of Albuquerque; son, Mark G. Mendelson of Albuquerque; daughters, Dana Parker and husband, Jeff of Tampa, FL and Sally Mendelson of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Carrie Mendelson of New Jersey and many other family and friends. SANDOVAL -- Anita R. Sandoval passed away on August 3, 2004 in Milwaukee, WI. She was a native of New Mexico and was born in 1928 on Palace Avenue in Santa Fe. She grew up in Albuquerque and was a graduate of Albuquerque High School and the University of New Mexico. Anita was a piano major and a bassoonist with the Albuquerque Civic Symphony for several years. She later moved to Madison, WI to raise a family and to pursue her career as a music teacher. Anita is survived by her sons: David Bowen of Milwaukee, WI and his children, Michael and Margaret; John Bowen of Lewisville, TX and his children, Hannah, Angela, and Nathan. She is also survived by her sister, Consuelo Sandoval, who resides in California. SANDOVAL -- Jacob (Jake) Sandoval born May 1st, 1914; to the Rev Abel and Laura Sandoval, in Chamisal, NM. He was preceded in death by his brothers Abel, Lawrence, Bert, Harry and sisters Ruth, and Martha. Of his siblings, he is survived only by his oldest sister Shonita Kurtz. Graduated Menaul School in 1932. He atteneded York College (BS Organic Chem), on an academic scholarship, where he met our mother, Peggy. They were married Sep 24, 1939 and would have celebrated their 65th anniversary. He served in the medical corp in WWII, and as a German interpreter. After the war, he graduated from Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM (MS Organic Chem). He completed an ABD from the University of New Mexico while teaching in Los Lunas and received numerous favorite teacher awards. He was a Research Chemist at ACF in Albuquerque and Los Alamos Labs. In 1967, he was recruited by Pantex in Amarillo, TX as Senior Research Scientist, retiring in 1981. Jake is survived by his wife, Peggy; daughter Sylvia and husband Ken Harwood of San Antonio; son Stann & wife Wendy of Albuquerque; son Scott of Albuquerque. Also one sister Shonita Kurtz, granddaughter Rita Grosso & husband Bill and great grandson Gavin Boyce. Nephews Leroy Sandoval & wife Josie; Alex Martinez & wife Dorothy, George Carver & wife Bunny, Leslie Sandoval & wife Sandra, and Alex Sandoval. Nieces Laura May Randall & husband Ken; Leda & husband Larry Moreland, and Ruby Mae Williamson. Also many in-laws, and other friends, neighbors and loved ones. As a member of the Khiva Shrine in Amarillo and the Ballut Abyad Shrine in Albuquerque in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Ballut Abyad Shrine's Children's Hospital Transportation Unit. SMITH -- Frederick W. Smith, 95, a resident of Albuquerque since 1947, passed away on Tuesday, September 14, 2004. He is survived by his son, James F. Smith and wife, Rebekah of Tijeras, NM; granddaughters, Tracie Pearson and husband, Richard of Tijeras, NM and Kelly Smith of Albuquerque; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Jacob, and Caleb; brothers, Thomas E. Smith and Paul E. Smith and wife, Devita all of Las Vegas, NM; sisters, Mary E. Albrecht of Portland, OR and Marjorie C. Jordan of San Antonio, TX; and many nieces and nephews. He retired from US West after 42 years of service. STUBBS -- Flora Fidelia Frantz Stubbs, 100, of Albuquerque and formerly of Pampa, TX died at the La Vida Lllena Health Care Center in Albuquerque on Wednesday September 15, 2004. She was born January 16, 2004 in McPherson, KS, the daughter of Edward and Effie Wine Frantz. She was married to Harlan Yoder from July 30, 1925 until his death, April 14, 1959. She married Dr. Morris Stubbs on November 5, 1970, and was preceded by his death on March 22, 1990. She was a piano teacher and organist at the Presbyterian Church in Pampa, TX for about 35 years. Survivors of Mrs. Stubbs are a son and daughter-in-law, Gordon and Ann Yoder of Longmont, CO; daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Gerald Neher of Anna, IL; seven grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; and by great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Ruth Burton of Illinois; and a brother, Harper Freantz of California. A family memorial service will be held at a later date. VAISA -- Jackie DeAnne Vaisa, age 32, our precious Angel, passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2004 in Los Lunas, NM. She was born February 4, 1972 in Belen, NM. She was a graduate of Los Lunas High School, class of 1993. Jackie is survived by her parents, Paul and Bobbie Vaisa; one brother, Charles Vaisa and his wife, Amanda; one sister, Stacie Vaisa and her fiance, Steven Gonzales; two nephews, George Vaisa and Samuel Gonzales; one niece, Amy Vaisa, and a "special" Aunt Mercy Gurule.
