Boggess -- O.E."Bogie" Boggess who had been a resident of New Mexico since 1939 died Saturday, August 31, 2002. He is survived by two sons, Glen and Dale Boggess; and their wives, Roberta and Margaret; two grandsons, Clinton and Daniel; and their wives, Jacqueline and Maggie; three granddaughters, Jennifer, Jeannette and Jacquelyn Boggess; a brother, Lewis Porter and his wife, Fern; and a sister, Faye Hosman and husband, Raymond. He was preceded in death by his, wife Faye Darlene Wheatley Boggess whom he nursed through a five year bout with cancer. O.E. Boggess was born in Liberty, MO where he was raised by his mother, Mable and his stepfather, Jay Porter. As a young man he was fascinated by barnstorming pilots that would visit his farming area. This fascination grew into a lifelong love of airplanes. During WWII he worked for Douglas Aircraft as a flight test mechanic installing instrumentation and bombsights. During his years in the aircraft industry, he first worked on the Fort Tri-motor and ended with the Douglas DC-10. This work spanned 40 years including 28 years with Continental Airlines for which he was the maintenance foreman in Albuquerque. During his working career, he also farmed in Bosque Farms, was an adult leader in 4-H clubs, and was a founding member of Peralta Community United Methodist Church. Following his retirement he served a term on the Bosque Farms Village Council, and a driving force in building the Bosque Farms Library. Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 7, 2002, French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE with Rev. Don Boren officiating. Burkett -- Juanita Burkett, 81, died Wednesday, September 4, 2002 at Kindred Hospital in Albuquerque following a long and courageous fight with diabetes. Funeral Services will be Monday, September 9, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at the Third and Kilgore Church of Christ with Frank and Marlin Poynor officiating. Burial will be in the Portales Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Smokey Ball, Leroy Burch, Mark Coleman, Dwayne Hardt, Hank Merrick, Jack Merrick, Nelson Rector, Earl Woods and Delbert Rector. Honorary Pallbearers will be all friends and family. Juanita Burkett was born in Poolville, TX, January 21, 1921 to Sherman and Zella Smith. She was raised and educated in the Poolville and Southland, TX school systems and was highly recognized as a woman's basketball standout. She was married December 2, 1939 in Alpine, TX to Elmo Burkett. They were married 52 years prior to his death on December 12, 1991. They moved from Tahoka, TX to their farm west of Portales in 1948 where they became well known for their Jersey Dairy Cattle. For 28 years, from 1963 until 1991, they jointly ran their insurance agency and the H&R Block franchise while continuing their real estate and agricultural interests. Juanita also served as a Roosevelt County elections official and insurance investigator. Juanita's vitality in life was dedicated to loving and giving to her family, her grandchildren and many friends. She was known for her determination, will, work ethic and positive attitude about whatever task she undertook and was often engaged in assisting others to help alleviate problems. She leaves a void that will never be filled. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmo; her parents, Sherman and Zella Smith; two brothers, Howard of Plainview, TX and Virgil of Slaton, TX. She is survived by three sons, Jerry of Portales, Jack of Albuquerque, Bill of Abilene, TX; one daughter, Bonnie Sue Tomlinson of Canyon, TX; and two grandchildren, Scott and Aaron Burkett of Dallas, TX.

Ferguson -- Melvin C. Ferguson died very suddenly and peacefully on Sunday, September 1, 2002 after being taken to St. Joseph Hospital. Melvin was born in Oklahoma on October 2, 1923. He was an Electrical Engineer working with heating and air conditioning as well as proficient in many trades. He had enjoyed a wonderful happy day on Sunday, working in his new backyard. He had a very close knit family who loved each other and their Dad very much. The closeness made his new wife, Flora, feel very much at home with them and life was happy. He was also a very dedicated Christian. Melvin is survived by his wife, Flora; his four children, Alan Ferguson and his wife, Bonnie, Dale Ferguson, Cheryl Totie and her husband, John and Susan Ferguson; grandchildren, Casey and Clinton, Dawn Marie, Robin and Tyler Ferguson, all of the Phoenix, Arizona area. A Memorial Service will be lead by Pastor Glen Gilchrist, of the Living Church of God, and hosted by Bill and Yoland Aguirre at 7401 Pecos Trail NW, Albuquerque, New Mexico on Sunday, September 8, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. Cremation arrangements by the Sunrise Society of New Mexico, 891-8200.

Goss -- Jeanne Francis Goss of Austin, Texas, and formerly a longtime resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico passed away on September 5, 2002, following a prolonged convalescence. Born November 12, 1916 to Nellie and Frank Rankin in Sedalia, Missouri, Jeanne spent a lifetime in various business and accounting positions, retiring from the Albuquerque Public School District in 1979. She is preceded in death by her husband, Emmett D. Goss, who passed away in 1983. Mrs. Goss was a 38-year resident of Albuquerque, a lifetime member of the First Christian Church and social organizations including the Eastern Star, Beta Sigma Phi business fraternity and the Elks Club. Jeanne is survived by her two daughters, Judy Davis and Kay Sublett and husband, Collier of Austin, Texas; three granddaughters, Robin Townsend of Sandpoint, Idaho and Kelli Shepperd and Kerri Neumann of Austin Texas; and two great-grandchildren, Tiffani and Cory Shepperd of Austin. Lopez -- Zachary Jose Lopez, A little angel, was born September 4, 2002 and taken to heaven the same day to be with God and join his grandmother, Marie Kozak. ¯Zachary brought such joy to all anticipating his coming and his family and friends will never forget him. Luhn -- Evan Ryan Luhn, 53, a longtime resident of Albuquerque and most recently of Bosque Farms, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 29, 2002. Born in Rhode Island and moving with his family to New Mexico as a youth, he graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1966. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and subsequently the Coast Guard Reserve. After earning an LVN degree, he returned to New Mexico in the mid 1980s. He was employed by the UNM Mental Health Center and was active in the local arts community. Ryan is survived by two brothers, Roderick of Norfolk, VA and Edward of Bosque Farms, NM; a paternal aunt, Dr. Nellie Currarino of Dallas, TX; a maternal aunt, Mrs. Barbara Messinger of Wakefield, RI; a niece and nephew, Paige and Gregory Luhn of Shrewsbury, NJ; and a nephew and niece, Justin and Brittany Luhn of Norfolk, VA. Ryan will be remembered fondly by all. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to New Mexico AIDS Services. Arrangements have been made to inter his ashes at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, where he will eternally join his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Graham H. Luhn.

Montoya -- Dominic M. Montoya, 14, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on September 4, 2002. Dominic is the beloved son to Bridget Montoya and Eddie Salazar and Paul M. Morton -- Ancil Guy "Morty" Morton, age 89, died Saturday, August 31, 2002 born August 31, 1913 in Dennis, TX. He was the last surviving child of seven. He was preceded in death by his parents, father, Homer Guy Morton and mother, Effie Lee Taff. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Warrant Officer second class after 22 years. He served in World War II in the Pacific Theater of Operations. After the Navy, he worked for the employment Security Commission of New Mexico as an appeals referee. Ancil retire after 16 years. Ancil also received an Associate's Degree in real estate from the University of Albuquerque. He and his wife, Nedra were fellow founders of the Chaparral Bulldog Club of New Mexico. Ancil was a handler and breeder of many champion English Bulldogs. Ancil is survived by his daughter, Barbara Gayle Debenport of Ft. Worth, TX; his son, Guy Frederick Morton and his wife, Michele Taylor-Morton of Albuquerque. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Lorin Douglas Long, his wife, Debbie and three children, Stephanie Cook, Amberly Long, and Jordan Long, Joel Robin Long, his wife, Sarah and three children, Spencer, Simon, and Barbara Greer Long, Julai Anne Maas and husband, Travis, Christine Marie Soulsby and husband, Josh, Tamara Gayle Utsler, husband, Jeremy and great-grandson, Brian Pickens. O'neal -- Walter B. O'Neal, 86, a resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, September 4, 2002. Born in Elida, NM, Walter spent most of his life near Carlsbad, NM working for the National Park Service at Carlsbad Caverns. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Walter retired in Albuquerque in 1974, and was a member of First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy O'Neal; stepdaughter, Marty Wilson and husband, Rodney; and son-in-law, David Wilkison; grandchildren and great-grandchildren include, Gregory Williams and wife, Laurie, Abigail and Nicholas Williams, Laurie Wilkison, Jenny Bryant and husband, Joel, Erin Young and husband, Mark and Patrick Williams. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Ada and Newton O'Neal; brothers; sisters; and stepdaughter, Vivian Wilkison. Quintana -- Ray B. Quintana, age 77, and former resident of the Barelas Community passed away on September 4, 2002. He was born on March 9, 1925 in Winslow, Arizona. He is survived by three sons, Raymond H. Quintana, Jr. and wife, Virginia, Ray Quintana, Jr. and wife, Rebecca, and Lawrence Quintana and wife, Terri; one daughter, Geraldine P. Montoya and husband, Randy; one stepdaughter, Judy Lucero and husband, Gene; fiancee, Virginia Leatherman; five granddaughters, Elizabeth R. Villarreal, Shirley A. Cole, Becky Quintana, Rachel Tenbrock and Crystal Lucero; nine grandsons, Robert Quintana, Matthew Montoya, Johnny Contreras, Ray Quintana, Daniel Quintana, Michael Quintana, Rueben Quintana, Ryan Quintana and Manuel Lucero; two brothers, Joe Quintana and wife, Aravella, and David Quintana and wife, Sally; and many great-grandchildren. Sahd -- Peggy Rose Sahd, 48, of Loveland, CO, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2002 in Colorado Springs. She was born March 27, 1954 in Frankfurt, Germany to Ivan (Bill) and Barbara Rose of Albuquerque. Peggy graduated from Manzano High School in 1972. Peggy was married to Peter in Albuquerque in 1977 and they have two children, Ryan of Ft. Collins, CO and Renee Brown and her husband, of Salt Lake City, UT. Peggy was preceded in death by her sister, Cindy. Peggy is survived by her parents; her husband and children; one brother, Ken Rose of Albuquerque; a sister, Stephanie Rose Saia and her husband, Josh of Albuquerque; a sister, Jennifer Rose Richardson of Dallas; and two nieces and two nephews, Christine Rose, Kenny Rose, Megan Richardson and Andrew Richardson. Daniel was born to the family of Onécimo and Irenea Sánchez on September 7, 1928 in Trementina, NM. He was the 6th child of ten born to this family. On August 12, 2002, after a long illness, Daniel died at his home in Grants, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three siblings; as well as two children. He is survived by his wife and loving caretaker, Emily. Also surviving are grandchildren, Joshua and Brittany and his"best friend" Catalina.Rest in peace, dear brother. Rose A. Schultz -- Christopher Schultz, 32, Student of Optical Physics. Christopher Karl Drachenberg Schultz, a dedicated physics student, and wonderful friend to all that knew him, died Thursday June 20th 2002.Chris had been a student at the University of Arizona Optical Sciences department and was working on his PhD. He was involved in many projects and was a valued member of the teams that he was on. In 1999 Chris graduated from the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor's degree in Physics. He also was that years recipient of the prestigious Feynman award. He was intensely proud of his dedication and perseverance in getting his degree as well as his acceptance to the University of Arizona Optics program that is known worldwide as being one of the best.He made several good friends while at school and was very proud of the grades he was getting and his contributions there. Before he went out to Arizona he had spent most of his life in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He lived there with his father and brother from the age of 12. He had many terrific friends in Albuquerque who will miss him deeply. A wake was held on Wednesday, June 26th and was attended by his father, brother, and his many friends over the years.Chris was born in Saginaw, Michigan on March 27th 1970. He is survived by his father, Ronald Schultz; mother, Carolyn Schultz; and brother, Jonathan Schultz. His family would like to thank all those that have been kind and giving over this difficult time, and wish for all those who knew him to remember him fondly and for the good times he had on this earth.In Chris's memory, a scholarship fund has been established. White -- John W. "Fats" White, 68, a resident of Albuquerque since 1975, died Wednesday, September 4, 2002. Wood -- Glendon W. Wood. Graveside Service for Glendon W. Wood, 76, of Lubbock, TX will be at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, September 7, 2002 at Idalou Cemetery with Mr. Tommy Hicks officiating. Mr. Wood died Thursday, September 5, 2002 in Lubbock. He was born September 13, 1925 in Idalou to Jessie and Beulah Wood. He graduated from Idalou High School in 1943. He served our country in the Navy on the USS Custer during World War II in the Pacific theater receiving the Philippine Liberation Medal, the American Area Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Area Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He married Nelvie Parker November 2, 1952 in Lubbock. He was a fireman for the Lubbock Fire Department working for many years at Station #4. After 34 years of service, he retired as a Captain at Station #7. He was a member of Southside Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Gerald Wayne Wood of Albuquerque, Gary Lynn Wood of Valdosta, Georgia, Donald Keith Wood of El Paso, TX; two brothers, Willis Wood and Dale Wood both of Lubbock and one granddaughter. .DMP
