Cassidy -- Patricia"Pat" Cassidy, 69, a resident of Albuquerque since 1962, died Wednesday, July 31, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Ed Cassidy of Albuquerque; brothers-in-law and their wives, Joe and Joanne Cassidy of Gurnee, IL, Gerald and Helen Cassidy of Round Lake, IL, Henry and Susan Cassidy of Arlington, VA, Thomas and Nancy Cassidy of Geneva, IL and Paul Cassidy of Aurora, IL; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and best friend of 40 years, Jacqueline Rolfe of Los Lunas, NM. She was preceded in death by her son, Steven Cassidy; and her brother, Thomas G. Howard. Pat graduated from Beloit College with a degree in speech and English. She was the third woman County Commissioner for Bernalillo County from 1985 through 1992. She was known as"the lady with the hat." Pat's proud accomplishments as Bernalillo County Commissioner included securing the funding to make Tramway a 4-lane highway from the city limits to the Sandia Reservation. Pat also reached the first agreement with the Department of the Interior over the ownership and use of the west face of the Sandias. Pat was the only two term president of the New Mexico Association of Counties and successfully gained acceptance for their Workers Compensation Insurance Pool. She was a board member of the National Association of Counties, member of AFT, Kiwanis, League of Woman Voters, American Association of University Women, Eucharistic Minister at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, Central Committee member of the Bernalillo County and State of New Mexico Republican Party and a member of the New Mexico Alliance for the Mentally Ill. She taught high school speech and produced junior and senior plays at Antioch High in Antioch, IL. Pat taught in the alternative high schools in Albuquerque, assisted at Queen of Heaven Catholic School Library and was involved with parent activities at St. Pius High School when their son was a student. For many years, she was a secretary of the Tuesday Foursome bowling team at Fiesta Lanes. She was a longtime advocate of equality for women. As a teacher in the 1950's, she questioned pay policies that gave male teachers additional salary based on their number of children. As a republican party activist, she led the effort to change the state party rules to require that at least half the delegates to national conventions be women. The rule change failed to pass but all subsequent delegations from New Mexico have met this standard. As County Commissioner, she appointed qualified women to zoning and other boards whenever possible. Mass will be celebrated Thursday, 10:00 a.m., at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 5310 Claremont NE, with Father Johnny Lee Chavez, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jacquelyn Schaefer, Rosa Martinez, Nellie Montoya, Louise Davis, Clara Otero and Susan Noftsker. Honorary pallbearer will be Donna K. Smith. Chavez -- Mona L. Chavez age 39, and Augustina Gonzales, age 99, residents of Cuba, NM for the last 12 years. Mona passed away suddenly August 1, 2002. Augustina passed away July 29, 2002. Mona is survived by three sons, Ricardo Chavez, Justin and Benito Lopez; mother, Ferminia Swick; one brother, Mike Swick; numerous other family and friends who loved and will miss them. A Rosary will be recited at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cuba at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 9, 2002. The Funeral will be held at a later date. Clingenpeel -- Donald Oscar"Chief Boats" Clingenpeel, 82, a resident of Albuquerque since 1950, died Monday, August 5, 2002. Don has gone to our Lord, after losing the battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marjorie Clingenpeel; children, Cynthia Clingenpeel of Belen, Gail Adams and husband, Richard of Yuba City, CA, Ted Clingenpeel and wife, Fern of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Tammie Clingenpeel of Albuquerque, Marc Clingenpeel of Albuquerque, and Shanin Adams of Yuba City, CA; and younger sisters, and; brothers, Arthur Clingenpeel and wife, Elsie of Albuquerque, Leonard Clingenpeel and wife, Nellie of Mapleton, IA, Russel Clingenpeel and his wife, Phyllis of Sioux, NE, Irene McClellan and husband, Ed of Onawa, NE, Leila Shupe and husband, Ernest of Turin, IA; brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Joyce Bugg of Albuquerque; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his older brother, Clarence Clingenpeel of Iowa. Don was born on December 21, 1919 in Sioux City, IA. He served in the United States Navy for 20 years, retiring in 1960, making Albuquerque his home. During his naval career, Don survived the Pearl Harbor attack while aboard the USS West Virginia on December 7, 1941 receiving the Purple Heart for his injuries. In 1961, he became employed with the US Postal Service in Albuquerque and retired after 17 years of service. Donald will be sorely missed by those who knew him especially for his knowledge and character. Conway -- Ed Conway, 67, a resident of Albuquerque since 1979, died Tuesday, August 6, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Ruth E. Conway; daughter, Vicki Mertzig and husband, Rick; sons, Edward Conway, Jr., all of Albuquerque and Scott Conway and wife, Kimberly of Ohio; brothers, Arthur Conway and wife, Donna ofAmarillo, TX and John Conway and wife, Dolly of Merrimack, NH; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers, Daniel and Richard; and sister, Linda. Ed worked for many years at General Electric. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1973. Ellis -- James E. Ellis, 48, a resident of Albuquerque since 1973, passed away on Monday, August 5, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Jody; son, Andrew, Aaron, Darlene and Patrick Jr.; parents, Roger and Marianne Ellis; sisters, Carol and Susen, all of Albuquerque; brother, John; and nephew, Matthew Ellis of Simi Valley, California; aunt and uncle, Christel and Albert Boss of Wiesbaden, Germany; aunt, Joan Ellis; and cousins, Robert and Debra. Jim had many friends and business associates who will miss him. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Friday, August 9, 2002 2:30 p.m. at the Alumni Chapel on UNM campus.

Encinias -- Rachel M. Encinias, 9, a resident of Peralta, New Mexico passed away peacefully at home in the arms of her loving family on August 6, 2002 and is now one of God's Little Angels in Heaven. Rachel is the beloved daughter to Patrick and Mary Encinias. Rachel is also survived by her brother, Patrick Encinias Jr.; one sister, Amy Levine; her maternal grandparents, C.R. and Adela Gonzales; paternal grandparents, Conrad and Priscilla Encinias; materanl great-grandmother, Maria Sandoval; uncles and aunts, Rudy and Carmen Gonzales, Mike and Flora Gonzales, Sonny and Judy Gonzales, Andy Gonzales, Margie and Berry Levine, Felix Encinias, Robert and Chris Encinias, Pasqual and Judith Orozco; many cousins and friends who loved Rachel very much. Rachel is preceded in death by her uncle, Joe Gonzales. Rachel was a member of the Catholic Church and she attended Peralta Elementary School and Los Ninos Therapy. Fisk -- Clifford James Fisk, 76, a resident of Albuquerque for 50 years, died Wednesday, August 7, 2002. He is survived by his daughter, Karen Fisk-Mohoric and husband, Mark Mohoric; son, Brian Fisk and wife, Nanette Concotelli-Fisk; all of Albuquerque; brothers, Leonard Fisk and wife, Arlis, of Folsom, CA, Donald Fisk and wife, Irene, and Harry Fisk and wife, Betty, all of Arvada, CO; sister, Irene Oldham and husband, Dave, of Sandy UT; grandson, James Fisk and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Viva and sister, Leila Morgan. Mr. Fisk, born in Arvada, CO, was a WWII veteran of the US Navy and retired from Sandia National Laboratory after 35 years of service. Garcia -- David E. (D.E.) Garcia, beloved husband, brother and father died on Wednesday, August 7, 2002 at his home surrounded by family. D.E. was 59 years young. He was the son of Connie Garcia and the late Arturo Garcia of Albuquerque. He is survived by his beloved wife, Evelyn; his cherished daughters, Liane Garcia, Janelle Callahan and husband, Marvin, and Angela Martinez and husband, Peter; his sons, Damian Garcia and wife, Lisa, and Frank Armenta and wife, Renee;¯sisters, Margarita Trujillo, Irene Smith and Helen Chavez and husband, John. He is also survived by one brother, Gilbert Garcia and wife, Jill, and was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Garcia. D.E. was loved dearly by his nine precious grandchildren, Derrick, Deanndra, Taneke, Peter, Jr; Hannah, Alexis, Frank Jr., Dominic; and great-grandson Derrick, Jr., D.E. is also survived by his very special Goddaughter, Carla and many other loving relatives. D.E. was born into a Catholic family on June 19, 1943. He attended Albuquerque Public Schools, graduating from Albuquerque High School in 1961. He attended U.N.M. and the University of Albuquerque and joined the Albuquerque Police Department in 1965. D.E. retired from the Albuquerque Police Department after 22 years of service to his community. The last 17 years of his career were spent as a Violent Crimes Detective. D.E. was honored as Police Officer of the Month and Officer of the Quarter eventually leading to his selection as Police Officer of the Year in 1985. D.E. was currently serving as President of the Fraternal Order of Police (F.O.P.) Albuquerque Lodge #1. He was a co-founder of the Chicano Police Officers Association of Albuquerque and instrumental in organizing the Albuquerque Police Officers Association Union. As an avid Harley Davidson rider, he was one of the founders of the Blue Nights of New Mexico, Chapter One.¯ He was recently sworn in as a member of the Ballut Abyad Shrine. Garcia -- Frances Garcia was born in Albuquerque, NM. July 21, 1956. She went home to be with the Lord August 5, 2002, after a long illness. Frances was a wonderful homemaker, devoted wife, mother, sister and aunt. She was viewed as a mother figure by all of her nieces and nephews. Frances enjoyed singing, listening to music, and worshipping the Lord. She is survived by her loving husband of 27 years, Luz Joe Garcia of the family home; son, Jonathan Benino Garcia and fiancé, Christina Morales; step-son, Ronnie Garcia; mother and father, Stella and Simon Ayala all of Albuquerque; two brothers, Adam Libario of California, and Joseph Ayala of Albuquerque; three sisters, Mary Jacquez and husband, Pedro, Beatrice Sanchez and husband, Raymond, Sally Arellano and husband, Fred all of Albuquerque; numerous family,¯ friends, nieces, and nephews who she was very close to.¯ Services will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco Dr. SW. on Friday, August 9, 2002. Hagaman -- Beth Gilbert Hagaman (Frances Elizabeth) quietly and peacefully passed away surrounded by loved ones, at her home in Corrales, of natural Causes, August 5, 2002 at age 92, after a very brief phase of physical decline. A native of New Mexico, born on May 20, 1910, in Alamogordo, The Territory of New Mexico, she was preceded in death by her parents Mary Edna Murphy Gilbert and Dr. Jesse Robert Gilbert of Alamogordo; a husband and father of her three children, George William Hagaman; one brother, Jesse Robert Gilbert, Jr. (Jack); and sister-in-law, Wilma Gilbert, husband, Jams Mahill; and daughter, Carolyn Hagaman Ortega. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Dr. Marylou Hagaman Witz and Gene Witz, and Dr. Betty Ann Hagaman and Dr. Ralph C. Friedenberg; and one other son-in-law, attorney, Victor R. Ortega; five grandchildren, David Marcial Ortega, John Victor Ortega, Annamarie Ortega, Paul Michael Friedenberg, Laura Elizabeth Friedenberg; and one great-granddaughter, Danielle Samantha Ortega, and a step-daughter, Beth Mahill; nephew, Von (Jimmy) Armstrong, his wife, Sally and their children; niece, Patricia Ann Gilbert Morin and her husband, Gerald Morin; and their son, Chris; and nephew, Jesse Robert Gilbert III, and his wife, Johnnie and their children. After being honored as valedictorian of her high school class in Alamogordo in 1928, Beth attended the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque during which time she was in the Chi Omega sorority and a member of the honorary scholastic society Mortarboard. She graduated in 1932 with a Bachelor of Science degree (Biology and Home Economics) and in 1933 married George William Hagaman in Alamogordo. Together they raised their three daughters until George Hagaman's death in 1950. Beth remained in Alamogordo until she moved to Albuquerque in the 1960s and to Corrales several years later. As an elementary school teacher, prolific artist, and author of numerous published papers and two books, Beth's life was filled with loving and devoted service to her family and the community. She served as a member of the Alamogordo School Board for many years and was an active member of Easter Star. In Albuquerque and Corrales she was active for many years until her death, in P.E.O, the Old Glass Club, Corrales Historical Society and a member of Central United Methodist Church. Beth also was a member of a prominent southern New Mexico pioneer family that is memorialized in Alamogordo's Founder Park for the key role it played in New Mexico's history. Hansen -- Margaret Hansen, 91, a resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, August, 7, 2002. She is survived by her son, Ralph Hansen and wife, Sandra of Albuquerque; and four grandpuppies. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Hansen in 1970, and son, Alex Hansen. Private family services are planned at Santa Fe National Cemetery.

Kissock -- Margaret F. Kissock, 72, a resident of Albuquerque since 1952, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 4, 2002, after a long battle with emphysema. She is survived by her daughter, Shelly Carabajal and husband, Ramon; son, Gary Kissock and wife, Pamela; and grandchildren, Stephen and Laura Kissock and Yvonne and Ramon Quezada. She is also survived by her sisters, Madeline Fiore and husband, Mike, Marion Hirschman and husband, Carl; niece, Kristin Kissock and husband, Russ Hatfield; and several other nieces and nephews. Mrs. Kissock was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Kissock on October 12, 1990. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be missed by the entire family. Margaret was born in Newton Falls, NY and came to Albuquerque in the early 1950's with her husband who was stationed at Manzano Base. She was employed as an executive secretary at the large USF&G insurance firm. She was a member of the Albuquerque Insurance Women's Club. Prior to her retirement in the late 1980's, Margaret and her husband owned several race horses and enjoyed the horse racing industry immensely, as well as boating at Navajo Lake. After retirement, Margaret donated her time to the New Mexico State Agency on Aging Ombudsman Program overseeing nursing homes. Due to her efforts, patients were treated fairly and facilities were improved. She was a longtime member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Margaret loved having lunch with her friends, boating, a small amount of gambling, and being with her family. The family would like to thank the staff at the Montebello on Academy who cared for Margaret so much. Visitation will be Friday, August 9, 2002, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE and a Rosary will follow at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, August 10, 2002, at 10:00 a.m., at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 833 Arizona St. SE. Langston -- Lt. Commander John Lewis Langston, Retired USN passed away peacefully at the age of 74 on Sunday morning, August 4, 2002, at the Palliative Care Unit of the VA hospital in Albuquerque, NM. He was born in San Diego, CA on May 1, 1928. He graduated in 1950 from Los Angeles City College with an Associate of Arts Degree in Photography. He then went on to California State College at Los Angeles, and graduated in 1953 with a Bachelor of Arts in Government. Additional university work was completed in Aviation Safety at the University of Southern California, and in Library Technology at Leeward Community College, University of Hawaii. He enlisted in the Navy in 1946 as an Apprentice Seaman, and was commissioned in 1953. He was designated a Naval Aviator in 1956. He proudly served in the US Navy for 23 years achieving a WW II Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and numerous other commendations from the US Navy. He retired in October of 1971 with the rank of Lt. Commander. During his retirement he lived exclusively in Albuquerque, NM. He enjoyed world travel, live opera, theater and the company of his many friends. He was married in 1953 to Aileen Tribolet, and during their marriage of 22 years together, they had four children. John is survived by sons, Brian of Stockton, CA, Darrell of Edgewood, NM, Erin of Oklahoma City, OK; daughter, Chriseen Peay of Bristol, TN, and their spouses; nine grandchildren, Marissa, Daniel, Morgana, Benjamin, Victoria, Katie, Jonathan, Matthew and Elainna; brother, Robert Langston, of Kensington, CA. The family wishes to thank the many Doctors and staff of the VA Medical facility for their care over the years, in particular Dr. Janice Knoefil and the entire unit of Palliative care. Lovato -- Mike Lovato, 74, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, died Friday, August 2, 2002. Martin -- Gail R. Martin, 78, a resident of Albuquerque since 1980 passed away on Monday, August 5, 2002. Gail was born August 13, 1924 the daughter of William Cyrus and Geraldine Braddock Rice in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She had been a Social Worker for the City of Grand Rapids before retiring. Gail served in the US Army during WW II. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren S. Martin in 1992; and one brother, William Rice. Mcalexander -- Richard M. McAlexander, 74, passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2002 at Socorro General Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born May 8, 1928 to Gerald E. and Vivian P. (Lombard) McAlexander in Holly, CO. Richard was a 34 member of the Masonic Lodge and a Past Worshipful Master of Pyramid Lodge #43 in Reno, NV. He was a member of the Kerak Shrine in Reno and belonged to the Santa Fe Scottish Rite. He was also a member of the Knights of Pythias, Rio Grande #3 in Socorro and a member of the I.O.O.F. Richard served in the US Army as a corporal and was extremely patriotic to his country. He attended Lamar Jr. College in Colorado where he was a member of the Lamar Fire Department. He attended Western State College in Gunnison, CO. He worked as a firefighter in Socorro, NM and attended the New Mexico School of Mines where he received his B.S. degree in Geology on June 3, 1955. Richard worked as a State Geologist in Santa Fe and worked for the New Mexico State Highway Department as Assistant Project Engineer. He also worked in uranium mines in Grants, NM and Moab, UT. Richard was a mining engineer who later worked as a federal mine inspector with the Mine Safety and Health Administration in Reno for 23 years. Richard, best known to family and friends as"Mac", enjoyed science, history, working with iron, old tractors, steam driven locomotives, Celtic music, John Wayne movies and the faithful companionship of his cat,"Quigley McCorkendinkle" and dog,"Cagney". He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, William P. McAlexander; and an infant daughter and infant son. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Christina (Pino) McAlexander; and his daughter, Vivian McAlexander. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 9, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Socorro with Rev. Phil Preston officiating. Interment will be in the Socorro Cemetery. Mccarthy -- Thomas Daniel McCarthy, Jr., 63, a resident of Rio Rancho since 1985, passed away unexpectedly from an accident on Sunday, August 4, 2002. Thomas was born March 12, 1939 the son of Thomas Daniel and Margaret Neder McCarthy, Sr. in Hicksville, New York. He was a Project Superintendent with the Bradbury & Stamm Construction Company. Tom was a member of the Hicksville (NY) Volunteer Fire Department, member of the International Association of Contractors, was in the US Marines Reserves, and he was also a balloon pilot and ballooning enthusiast. Padilla -- Trinidad E. Padilla, age 89, a resident of Albuquerque since 1969 passed away Tuesday evening, August 6, 2002. Mrs. Padilla was born on November 1, 1912 in Cimmeron, New Mexico. Ramczyk -- Dorothy Ann Ramczyk died peacefully at her home on August 6, 2002 surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of George L. She was the beloved daughter of Louis and Anna Kohner who preceded her in death; beloved sister of Marcella Baugeant; beloved mother of Mary Higgins, Stephen Ramczyk, Margaret Stoliker, Michael Ramczyk, Joan Lane, Daniel Ramczyk, Barbara Ramczyk and Rebecca Markey; beloved mother-in-law, of Bernie Higgins, Patricia Ramczyk, David Stoliker, Kenneth Lane, Kevin Markey and Carol Martin; beloved grandmother of Rachel and Hillary Higgins, Leslie Lamb, Timothy Ramczyk, Kirsten McVeigh, Sarah and Elizabeth Stoliker, Ryan and Hannah Markey; beloved great-grandmother of Taylor Lamb. Dorothy was born in 1925 in Winona, MN. She married George her childhood sweetheart and they moved to New Mexico in 1948 where George worked for the Albuquerque Publishing Co. Dottie and George raised eight children. Dottie was an accomplished pianist and gourmet cook. She will be fondly remembered for her generosity, charitable spirit and her sense of humor. Grandma Dottie's advise to her family on how to navigate through life was,"You have to have a sense of humor." Steele -- Lena M. Rice Steele, age 74, of Albuquerque, NM, died on August 4, 2002. She was born August 26, 1927, and was preparing to celebrate her 75th birthday. Lena will be having that celebration with her beloved husband of 46 years, H.B."Huggy Bear" Steele who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her mother, Iona Sabra Rice; father, Richard French Rice; and all of her siblings, James, Dorothy, Thomas, Clyde, Beth, Kay, Irene and Joanne. Her daughter, Shauna Iona Steele of Albuquerque; her son, Scott B. Steele his wife, Noel King Steele; and granddaughter, Sabra Steele, all of Albuquerque survive their beloved mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother. Lena was like a second mother to her many nieces, nephews, and friends from across the country. Her family and friends will miss her exuberant spirit, her sense of play, and her courage. Lena was born in Kenova, West Virginia, and raised in Findlay, Ohio. She moved to Albuquerque with her family in 1973. A lifelong member of Trinity Baptist Church in Findlay, Lena faithfully attended Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque. Lena devoted her life to public service, retiring from Carrie Tingly Hospital after battling and surviving breast cancer in 1985. Lena was a staunch Democrat, and an avid lifelong sports enthusiast. She was the captain of the Findlay High School Trojan cheerleading squad, where she graduated in 1945. She played for years in the women's softball league, and was invited to play professionally. Her fast pitch was legendary. The Detroit Tigers and the Women's National Basketball Association lost a huge fan. At Lena's request, family and friends will gather at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE, for a graveside service on Thursday, August 8, 2002, at 10:00 a.m., with Susan Meredith of Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Darrol Lepper, Shane Riggs, Robbie Farris, Rick Decker, Jan Slaughterbeck, Jerrilyne Miller, and Debie Leeper-Baca.
