Blank -- Harry F. Blank, December 14, 1914 - October 19, 2001. Harry Blank was born in Albuquerque, the son of Hannah and Alvin Blank. He graduated from Albuquerque High School and was the proprietor of Albuquerque Glass and Mirror Works for 12 years. He was a member of Central Methodist Church, Albuquerque Lodge No 60, AF&AM and Albuquerque Lodge 461, B.P.O.E. He was the faithful husband of Lahalla Arlette Brown, the daughter of Roy and Mabel Brown. For the last 19 years, he lived in Oakland and Alameda, California. He is survived by his two sons, Leroy F. Blank of Nambe, New Mexico and Gary W. Blank of Alameda, California; and grandchildren, Daniel W. Blank, Richard J.C. Blank, and William F.C. Blank. A Memorial Service will be held in Alameda, CA at Immanuel Lutheran Church on January 12, 2002. Donations may be made to the Red Cross for the victims and survivors of the September 11 tragedy.

Chavez -- Elsie A. Chavez, 84, went home to be with the Lord on October 24, 2001. Elsie was born on June 5, 1917 in Albuquerque, NM. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dino Chavez; and grandson, Mark Chavez. She was a past president of the North Valley Senior Citizens. She is survived by one son, Lolo Chavez and wife, Rita; two daughters, Phyllis Villecas and Lydia Knauber; two brothers, Richard Armijo and wife, Dina and Mike Armijo; one sister, Reyna Salazar and husband, Frank; two granddaughters, Marlene Chavez and Kendall Knauber; two great-grandchildren, Darlene Chavez and Joshua Joseph Chavez. Elsie will be deeply missed by her loving family. A Rosary will be recited Friday, October 26, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. in the 8th Street Chapel of Garcia Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, October 27, 2001 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Eisenberg -- Claire Eisenberg, 79, a resident of Albuquerque since 1978, died Wednesday, October 24, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Hyman Eisenberg of the family home; son, Matthew Eisenberg and wife, Ellen of Wayne, NJ; daughter, Karen Coulston and husband, Richard of Sunland, CA; and grandchildren, Rachel, Amy, and Robin. Mrs. Eisenberg was a member of Sisterhood at Temple Albert and a member of Women's Council of Jewish War Veterans. She was an art lover who not only appreciated fine art, but created, painted, and sold many pieces. She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother who will be dearly missed by those who knew her. Esquibel -- Alice M. Esquibel passed away on October 28, 1998; she was 45 years old. Field -- Alyce C. Field, age 91, died October 24, 2001 in Albuquerque. She is survived by niece,Shirlee Robertson of Albuquerque, NM; two nephews, John Lee Francis and Robert E. Francis of Oklahoma City, OK. Alyce worked for Kirtland Air force Base from 1951 until 1978. She managed the Military Clothing Distribution Center. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. Saturday, October 27, 2001 at Strong-Thorne Mortuary 1100 Coal Ave SE. She will be taken to Oklahoma City for visitation all day Monday, October 29, 2001 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Fox -- Owen Fox, 59, of Portales, NM died October 24, 2001 in Portales. Owen was born January 27, 1942 in Fort Sumner to the home of J.D. Fox and the former Ada Mae Savage. he was reared and attended schools at Fort Sumner where he excelled in track, football and basketball. He was active in high school rodeo and was the 1961 High School Steer Wrestling Champion and All Around Cowboy Champion. Owen owned and operated K & O Trucking Company in Las Cruces for over 23 years. He moved his company to Portales, NM in 1981 and worked for several construction companies in eastern New Mexico. He was also a heavy equipment operator. Owen attended the Methodist Church at Elida, NM. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and dancing. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Clovis. Owen was preceded in death by his father, J.D. Fox on September 8, 1985. Survivors include his mother, Ada Mae Fox of Fort Sumner; a brother, Jimmy Fox of Albuquerque; two sisters, Cloreta Hawk and husband, Weldon of Clovis, NM, and Maurcenia Dewbre of Fort Sumner. Also surviving are two nieces and two nephews, Jimmie Dee Fox of Fort Sumner; D'Aun Douglass of Litchfield Park, AZ, Olen Douglass and wife, LaTonne of Miami, TX and Eddy Douglass and wife, Kim of Georgetown, TX. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 28, 2001 from the Christ Full Gospel Church in Fort Sumner with Rev. Mike Teeter officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Glen Griffin, Kay Lee Skipworth, Vern Stockard, Olen Douglass, Eddy Douglass, Jay Schroeder, Quinton Bennett, and Fred Montoya. Garcia -- Apolonia (Polly) Garcia, beloved aunt was called home to be with the Lord our Savior, Saturday, October 20, 2001. Polly was a lifelong resident of Alameda; a lifelong member of the S.N.M. de M.P. No. 2 of Alameda. She was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac Garcia. She is survived by her nieces, Mable L. Gallegos, Cecilia Gallegos and husband, Charlie; nephew, Eddie Garcia all of Alameda; other nieces and nephews are, Fabby Olivas and husband, Orlando, Ernest Garcia and wife, Marie, Jeannie Garcia; brother-in-law, Tom Garcia and family of Bakersfield, CA. Garcia -- Johnnie M. Garcia, 73, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, died peacefully at home surrounded by his wife and beloved family, Tuesday, October 23, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Helen Blair Garcia; three daughters, Dannette and husband, Bob Villarreal, Mary Ann Garcia-Word and husband, Terry Word, and Dannelle and husband, Bradley Gundlach, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Scott, Martin, John Jarrett, Danimarie, Elisamarie, Jettie and Terrence; two great-grandsons, Robert and Nicholas; two brothers, Vincent Garcia and Roger C. Blair and wife, Theresa; and two sisters, Feliciana Candelaria and Tomisita Garcia, all of Albuquerque. Mr. Garcia was preceded in death by his beloved son, Johnnie Lee; three brothers; and three sisters. He retired from Sandia Labs in 1983. Gunn -- Edsel L. Gunn, 74, a resident of Albuquerque for 55 years, died Tuesday, October 23, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Lou Gunn of Albuquerque; daughter, Shelley Jaus and husband, Rick of New York; son, Douglas Gunn and wife, Martha of Pennsylvania; and daughter, Tina West of Albuquerque. He is also survived by his four grandchildren; brother, Troy Gunn and wife, Sara of Dallas, TX; sister, Lyda Wilbanks and husband, Phil of Frost, TX; sister-in-law, Betty Gunn of Dallas, TX; mother-in-law, Esther Roesch of Albuquerque; and many, many friends. Mr. Gunn worked at Sandia Laboratories for over 22 years. He then began working as Sales Manager with Commercial Radiator and worked with them for nine years. Gutowski -- Dr. Roman A. Gutowski, beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully with his family present, Wednesday, October 24, 2001, after a long battle with several illnesses. A native of the state of Michigan, he is a graduate of Cass Technical High School in Detroit. Dr. Gutowski also attended Wayne State University. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, IL. Dr. Gutowski practiced his profession in Michigan and New Mexico for many years. He is a veteran of WWII, having served with the U.S. Army Ordinance Department in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Dr.Gutowski is survived by his wife, Geraldine, to whom he was married for 42 years; son, Alan and wife, Beverly; daughter, Lynn; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Gilliland. He is also survived by his sisters, Camille Gutowski and Laura Tomaszewski and her family; brothers, Arthur and Anthony Gutowski and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, Antoni and Marja Gutowski; and his sister, Helena Gutowski. Dr. Gutowski enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed music, reading, studying languages, traveling and exercise. Maestas -- Deacon Paul G. Maestas passed away October 23, 2001 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born August 4, 1933 in Gilman, CO. He was a lifelong resident of New Mexico and a resident of Bernalillo for the last 20 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Emma; his children, Paul Simon Maestas, and wife, Debbie, Steven Maestas, his fiancé, Debbie Weh, Rebecca Maestas-Sanchez, and husband, Michael Sanchez; sister, Mae Roybal; brothers, John Maestas and wife, Nellie, Lee Maestas and wife, Belinda. His grandchildren are, Mateo, Emily, Andres, and Isaac Paul Sanchez, John-Paul and Maria-Elena Maestas. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Albuquerque in 1961. He served his country as a Marine stationed in Korea. He co-founded Mr. Tux Formal Wear in 1962 while coaching and teaching at St. Pius X High School. He later formed Paul Maestas & Associates Realty. In addition to his numerous business interests, he both farmed and ranched raising Register Angus and Llamas. He served as State Deputy of the Knights of Columbus and was a longtime member of council 4227 and the Lamy Corporation. In 1993, he was ordained as a Deacon for the Archdiocese of Santa Fe serving Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Bernalillo. He filled every waking moment of his life with positive activity. He devoted countless hours to the church and his community. His family was particularly proud of his service in the deaconate program. He touched many lives and made our community a better place to live. Services are as follows: Thursday, October 25, 2001 visitation at Fitzgerald & Son Funeral Directors 3113 Carlisle Blvd NE from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Bernalillo on Friday, October 26, 2001 beginning at 10:00 a.m. with the Divine Mercy Chaplet. Mcanelly -- Barbara R. McAnelly, 86, a resident of Albuquerque since 1948, passed away on Monday, October 22, 2001. She is survived by her sister, Geraldine Ducey of Toledo, OH; sons, Dr. Mark McAnelly who is a Dentist here in Albuquerque and his wife, Claudine and Eric McAnelly an Attorney in Houston, TX and his wife, Elaine; grandchildren, Carolyn Farran a teacher in Albuquerque, Pamela Brame and Charity McAnelly, both of Austin, TX, Barbara and Jacquelyn McAnelly, both of Houston, TX, Julia McAnelly of Oakland, CA and Darrin McAnelly of Los Angeles, CA. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Ralph McAnelly; and her daughter, Rosalynde Farran who was a librarian with APS. She was born on May 15, 1915 in Woodville, OH. Barbara attended Heidleburg University in Tiffin, OH. Barbara and Ralph, were members of St. Paulťs Lutheran Church since 1948 and Barbara was active with the church circle group. She was also a longtime member of The League of Women Voters, and was active in many political and environmental causes, and greatly enjoyed her involvement in these causes. Mcdonald -- Laney C. McDonald Sr. passed away early Sunday morning, October 21, 2001. Born in Waco, TX, on September 17, 1922, he was predeceased by his parents, Essie C. and Mary McDonald. The family moved to Chicago, IL when Laney was nine years old. He became a professional musician at the age of fifteen and a bandleader at seventeen. Graduation from Morgan Park High School at sixteen made him the youngest graduate in the history of that school. He attended Roosevelt University where he majored in business administration. Laney held several varied positions with the US Government which included clerk-typist, medical records transcriber, instructor of medical terminology, administrative assistant to the Chiefs of Radiology and Medicine, personnel management specialist, employee representative in formal disciplinary hearings, Equal Employment Opportunity Counselor, Chief of Staffing and Placement and Chief of Position Classification and Wage Administration, all at the VA West Side Hospital in Chicago. Laney relocated to Albuquerque in 1977 where he began employment with the US Army Corps of Engineers as Chief of Position and pay Management and Chief Manpower Officer. He retired in 1981 primarily because of a cardiac condition. Laney began playing the guitar at the age of six (his father being his first teacher). He started playing the piano at the age of twelve. At seventeen, he organized a four piece musical combo, which had developed into a ten-piece orchestra by the time he moved to Albuquerque. He was a composer, arranger and lyricist. He traveled and played extensively in the US and appeared in Europe on multiple occasions. He worked on the Costa Lines Cruise Ship Carla"C", worked on the Carnival Cruise Line Ship Ms. Holiday and played in Caracas, Venezuela. Laney was the owner of Cetad Music Publishing Company and a member of Broadcast Music Incorporated and compiled a personal compositional catalog of fifty-one tunes. In 1990, he recorded an album of his compositions with the great saxophonist, Richie Cole as a guest artist. Laney is survived by his son, Laney C. McDonald Jr. of Kansas City, MO; daughters, Makea McDonald of Flushing, NY and Celia Benitez of Waukegan, IL, and several grandchildren. Thanks to Janis Mount and the staff of Presbyterian Hospice for their attentive and thoughtful care of Laney. Mueller -- Edmond "E.J." Mueller, 81, died Tuesday, August 21, 2001 in Denver, CO. He was a resident of Albuquerque for many years. Mr. Mueller was born September 7, 1919 in Chicago, IL to Rudolph and Dora Mueller. He married Neoma Anita Conn in Dennison, TX in August of 1945. Mr. Mueller graduated from high school at Northwestern Military and Naval Academy, Lake Geneva, WI. He attended the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. Mr. Mueller served with the U.S. Air Force in WWII. His career was in industrial chemical sales. Mr. Mueller is survived by his wife of 56 years, Neoma Mueller of Golden, CO; daughter, Linda Ann of Salmon, ID; five sons, Kenneth A. of Golden, CO, Edmond J. Jr. of Atlanta, GA, Gerald M. of Boulder, CO, Lawrence A. of Denver, CO, and John R. of Albuquerque; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Nevels -- Mazell M. Nevels a resident of Albuquerque, passed away October 22, 2001. She was born March 7, 1940 in Guthrie, Oklahoma, and was a longtime member of the Metropolitan Temple Church of God in Christ. Mazell was the widow of Reverend Samuel Nevels and was also preceded in death by her son, Derek E. Smith. She is survived by her mother, Helen U. Ojeda -- Maria V. Ojeda, a resident of Albuquerque since 1964, died Tuesday, October 23, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Gregorio S. Ojeda of the family home; granddaughter, Raquel Solis-Montoya of Albuquerque; four great-grandchildren, Andrea Montoya-Solis, Christina Montoya-Solis, David Solis, and Marybeth Solis; sister, Patricia Garcia of El Paso, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Rosario Solis-Regaldo, grandson, Carlos Solis, and brother, Ricardo Gonzales. Mrs. Ojeda was a beloved wife and grandmother and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Rosary will be recited Friday, October 26, 2001, 10:30 a.m., at Our Lady of The Assumption Church, Lomas and Tennessee, with Sophia Gurule reciting. Romero -- Camille Romero, 78, a resident of Albuquerque since 1957, died Wednesday, October 24, 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Carol G. Johnson of Albuquerque; two grandchildren, Sam Johnson and wife, Elizabeth of Tulelake, CA and Carolyn Johnson of Sheppard AFB, TX; and two great-grandchildren, Andrew Johnson and Susan Johnson, both of Tulelake, CA. Mrs. Romero was preceded in death by her son, Claude Romero. She retired from the Albuquerque Public Schools where she taught 5th grade at several local elementary schools. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday, October 29, 2001 at 9:30 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 619 Copper Ave. NW, with Father William King, Celebrant. Sesma -- Louis Steven Sesma, age 32, born October 18, 1969, passed away unexpectedly October 21, 2001. Steve is preceded in death by his grandmother, Mary Dolores Sesma. Smith -- Alvin Ellsworth Smith, 76, beloved husband, father, and friend, respected Air Force pilot and public high school teacher, died Wednesday, October 24, 2001. Born in Weedville, PA in 1925, he entered the Army Air Corps and graduated from flight school in 1944, Class 45B. During his 28-year military career, he flew Stearman aircraft, C-47s, T-6s. P-39s, and C-130s among others. His tours included Korea, Vietnam, Eniwetok, Luke AFB, Eglin AFB, and Kirtland AFB. After Air Force retirement in 1971, Alvin earned his teaching certificate at UNM and taught at T-VI, Highland High School, and West Mesa High School until full retirement in 1988. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Carol; son, Mark Douglas and wife, Deborah; daughters, Tracy Lee and husband, James Stuart and Rebecca; granddaughter, Rochelle and husband, Tom Hodson, and great-grandson, Thomas; grandchildren, Christopher, Ryan,Corey, Melinda, and Charlotte; brother, Willis; sisters, Lillian Weidow, June Sepiol, Virginia Sarakin, and Esther Garvin. Weisman -- Walter James Weisman, age 74, died Saturday, October 20, 2001. He is survived by a loving campanion of 20 years, Marge; two sons, Rick and Doug Weisman; six step-children, Sharon Campbell, Judy Lowe, Debora Green, Mike Mathews, Renee LaNora, Roger McChesney; one sister, Eleanor Joan and Jim Willowby; two brothers, Larry and Ruth Weisman, and Norman Weisman; 22 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Walter was a member of the Grace Outreach Church of God and Founded and Directed Chapter Two for widowed and widowers here in Albuquerque. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 27, 2001 at 5:30 p.m. at Grace Outreach Church of God 2900 Southern Blvd. SE. in Rio Rancho, NM with Pastor Kenneth Bernard, Officiant. Wheelock -- David N. Wheelock Sr., a resident of Elephant Butte, passed away Saturday, October 20, 2001. Dave retired from PNM in 1983 after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in TorC., and was a Veteran of the US Air Force during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his eldest daughter. Marian, and is survived by his children, sons, Neal Wheelock and wife, Linda, Russell Wheelock and wife, Christi; daughter, Judy Baca and husband, Steve; grandchildren Nichole, David, Bryce, Juliette, Jordan, Francesca, Amanda, and Jessica; great-granddaughter, Annastacia; sisters, Susie Tafoya and husband, Herman, and Bobbie Wheelock; brother, Jim Wheelock; numerous friends at PNM, Albuquerque, Elephant Butte, and Sonny Klein in Las Cruces. He will be greatly missed and always remembered. Dave will be buried at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Zehna -- Byron (Buddy) L. Zehna, 61, born 4-27-40 in Trinidad, CO., passed away on October 24, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Joyce; son and daughter-in-law, Frank & Stephanie Zehna; three grandchildren, Sallie, Joseph, & Nicolas, of Athens, Georgia; daughter, Pamela Perrine, of Manhattan Beach, CA; mother, Virginia Cordova Zehna and sister, Anita Thompson, of Denver, CO; numerous sister and brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank C. Zehna, and sister, Joan Barton. Buddy worked in the automobile business for years in the Albuquerque area. He served as Sergeant in the US Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He loved to play golf and fish. He regularly attended Calvary of Albuquerque where he was active in the cancer ministry. Special thanks to Dr. Douglas Clark and the oncology staff Westside, and the skilled nursing staff at Kaseman Hospital.
