Adkins -- Frances Gilkerson Adkins, 85, a resident of Albuquerque since 1945, died Saturday, September 16, 2000. She is survived by her husband, H.J. Adkins of the family home; daughter, Kay Brown and husband, Scott of Albuquerque; step-son, Dennis Adkins and wife, Linda of Chandler, AZ; grandchildren, Ron Brown and wife, Denise of Salt Lake City, UT, Jeff Brown of Albuquerque, and Shannon Gunia and husband, Ron of Plano, TX; great-grandchildren, Amber and Austin Brown of Salt Lake City, UT, Kirsten and Kelsey Gunia of Plano, TX; and brother, Bill Coffey of Roswell, NM. Baty -- Robert E. Baty, 75, passed away Friday, September 15, 2000. He was born in Gilliand, TX on December 28, 1924. He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Albuquerque; her two sons, Eugene Eddy and Robert Eddy of Albuquerque; his son, Jerry Michael Baty and his wife, Bonnie, of Denham Springs, LA; daughter, Karen Gayle Harper and her husband, Melvin of Jal, NM; special niece, Peggy Mills and her husband, Terry of Conchas, NM area; brother, L.B. Baty and his wife, Nina, of San Angelo, TX; sister-in-law, Pat Baty, of San Angelo, TX; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his late wife, Josephine (Jo) Baty of Jal, NM; his parents, L.B. and Beatrice Baty; and his brothers and sisters. Mr. Baty retired from El Paso Natural Gas in 1983 after 32 years of service in the Measurement Department. He was a Past Grand Master of the Independent Order of Oddfellows and Rebekahs of New Mexico, a member of the Lovington Lodge No. 44, and member of the Jal United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 18, 2000 at Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors, 3113 Carlisle NE. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 19, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. at Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Director's Chapel. Another service will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2000 at the Jal United Methodist Church at 1:00 p.m. followed by interment in the Jal Cemetery. Burge -- Roy Elbert Burge, a resident of Albuquerque since 1952, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2000. He was born November 25, 1916 in Denver, CO. He is survived by his wife, Jane of 57 years; son, Gary D. Burge, DVM and wife, Christine, of Ft. Collins, CO; daughter, Linda Mills of Albuquerque; granddaughters, Lisa Mills and Katherine Burge; grandsons, Kevin Mills, Chris Mills and Peter Burge; and sister, Edith Marcussen, of Santa Clara, CA. Roy fought for the US Army Corps as a pilot during the second World War. He was also a sales representative for Autrey Bros./Jostens for 36 years. He held a strength and a passion for life and his family that he has instilled in all who knew him. Although he was ready"to go home", he will be dearly missed. Services will be held September 19, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. at French Mortuary, 9300 Golf Course Rd. NW, 87114, with Wayne Gayton, officiating. A reception will immediately follow. Bustamante -- Kenneth G. Bustamante, 40, formerly of Belen and currently residing in Albuquerque, peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family in the early morning of the Lord on Sunday, September 17, 2000. He was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. He graduated from Belen High School in 1978. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1978 through 1987, and after his tour he enlisted in the Army National Guard from 1987 through 1992. Kenneth is survived by his loving children, Heather Bustamante and Kenneth Bustamante, Jr., both of Belen; his parents, Toni Bustamante of Albuquerque and Joe M. Bustamante of Albuquerque; five sisters, Elizabeth Bryan and her husband, Joey of Lubbock, TX, Geraldine Palmer of Los Lunas, Gale Romero of Las Vegas, NV, Eileen Maez and her husband, Gilbert of Los Lunas, Diana Meintzer and her husband, Ed of Albuquerque; two brothers, Joseph Bustamante of Albuquerque and Tommy Bustamante and his wife, Gina of Albuquerque; his loving aunt, Connie Jaynes of Belen; and special family members, Annette Bustamante and her fiance, Leonard Chavez of Belen. He is also survived by several loving nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts and many cousins. The family particularly wishes to thank the staff of Albuquerque Manor for providing kind and compassionate care for Kenneth throughout the past six years. There will be a Rosary on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at Romero Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Clement -- Leota Clement, 63, a resident of Albuquerque for 22 years, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2000. She is survived by her husband, Raymond R. Clement; children, Mark Clement and Denise Clement of Albuquerque. She is preceded in death by both her mother and father, Leo and Mona Bastien. Leota was a graduate of Loyola University of Chicago. She taught at Sombre del Monte Elementary School in Albuquerque, Gulf Avenue School in Wilmington, CA, James Ottis Elementary School in Chicago and was a substitute teacher in various schools in Albuquerque. Services will be held Wednesday, September 20, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. at Sangre de Cristo Catholic Church, 8901 Candelaria Blvd. NE, with Father Moore, officiating. Dibello -- Edward Salvatore DiBello, 83, loving husband, devoted father, grandfather, and friend, a recent resident of Albuquerque, formerly of the Greater Boston area, passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2000. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Florence; his sons, Edward G. DiBello and wife, Christine of Albuquerque, Michael F. DiBello and wife, Catherine of Redmond, WA; and his grandchildren, Amy and Anne DiBello Albuquerque, and Scott and Ryan DiBello of Redmond, WA. He is preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Catherine DiBello; and his brother, George DiBello, who died in the invasion of Anzio Beach, January 28, 1944. Mr. DiBello was born March 12, 1917 in East Boston, MA. He graduated from East Boston High School, Class of 1935. As a Post Office letter carrier, he met his wife-to-be on his route. They married in Madison, WI in 1943. During WWII, he was a Sergeant in the US Army Air Corps. He served in the China, Burma, and India Theater as control tower operator in support of air operations over"the Hump". His sketches, letters, and stories of India are treasured by his family. After the war, he returned to the US Post Office where he served his customers with courtesy and dignity as a letter carrier, parcel post driver, and supervisor. He retired from the Post Office in 1975 after 37 years. He also was a member of the Board of Appeals in Stoneham, MA and freely gave his time to church and civic organizations. He enjoyed his retirement as an amateur oil painter, skilled woodworker, and maker of fine clocks. He loved the seashore of his native New England, Southwestern sunsets, and moonrise over the Sandias. Most of all he loved his wife and family. He will be remembered as a fair, honest and decent man. Mass will be celebrated Monday, September 18, 2000, 10:00 a.m., at Prince of Peace Catholic Community, 12500 Carmel Ave. NE, with Father Antonio Mondragon, Celebrant. Interment will take place at 2:00 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Emenhiser -- Russell Milan Emenhiser passed away at home on Friday, September 15, 2000. Russell was born in Fredericks, OK on May 26, 1919. He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Louise; son, Irl Nolan Emenhiser; an infant son; brother, Buddy;and his beloved canine companion, Sammy Jo. He is survived by daughter, Cindy Gyure and her husband, Gary of Albuquerque; sons, Ronald J. Ivey and his wife, Paula of Coriscana, TX and Bruce Lane and his wife, Debbie of Evansville, IN; daughter-in-law, Suzie Byerly; sisters, Opal McDown, Ina Becker and Jeanne Woodring, all of Beaumont, CA; nieces, Joya Baker, Dana Radding and Nancy Hook; nephews, Paul Emenhiser and Jay Emenhiser, all of California. Mr. Emenhiser was a Master Baker, an art which he cultivated from the age of 14. He and his wife established Russell's Bakery in Albuquerque in 1949. Baking and cooking for his friends and family remained Russell's lifelong passion after his retirement and he took immense pleasure in sharing creations from his kitchen with his many friends. He was a member of the Elks Lodge. He was loved so much in this life by so many and he will be missed. God's Kitchen has a new baker. Services will be announced. Encinias -- Margarita Encinias a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2000. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Cipriano; and two children, Alejandro and Catalina Encinias. Surviving Mrs. Encinias is her son, Eloy Encinias and wife, Joanne of Orlando, Fl.; a sister, Angelina Sandoval of Wagon Mound, NM; five grandchildren, Ralph Encinias, Annette Encinias, Charlotte Encinias, John Encinias and wife, Jennifer, all of Albuquerque, and Traci Eisele and husband, Chad of Ocoee, FL. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren, Patrick Encinias, Christopher Encinias, Christine Encinias, Joseph Encinias, Nakkita Encinias, and Jonathan Encinias Jr., all of Albuquerque, and Tyler Adrian Eisele of Ocoee, FL; and several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Abelino Benevidez. Mrs. Encinias will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Friends may visit today from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary. Faris -- With continuing love for our mother and Sito, Sophie M. Faris. Our mother, Sophie, was a lifelong resident and native New Mexican. She was born in Bernalillo on August 28, 1924 to Lebanese immigrant parents, Raschid and Zahia Koury and opened her eyes in heaven on Friday, September 15, 2000. Sophie loved New Mexico and its culture, especially her dear Native American friends and family, and loved speaking the beautiful Spanish language. Sophie was politically active and involved in her community. Sophie's passion was cooking food and sharing it with family, friends and strangers. Sophie was the legendary and renowned cook of the North Valley and especially known for her chile and homemade hand-rolled tortillas Our mother was brave, compassionate, and preserving and we are proud of her and the way she lived her life - with dignity, grace and strength. But above all, Sophie's life was her family. Sophie is preceded to heaven by her husband, Frank Faris, Sr.; and her sons, Richard and David. She never ceased caring for those whom she loved, especially her remaining children, Frank D. Faris, Camille Stueber and her husband, John, Sandra Loyd, Sheila Bernardoni and her husband, Jim, Michael Faris and his wife, Rhonda, Shaylyn Faris-Graves and her husband, Rico; her grandchildren, Shawn Blackwood, Christen Schull, Aldous Loyd, Frank III, and Camille Faris, Richard Jr., Christopher, Jake, Ashley, Kyle, Kody and Kameron Faris, Jonathan, David and Michael Jr. Faris and Angelique and Evangelina Faris-Graves; her great-grandchildren, Lauren and Austin Schull and Sofia Blackwood. Gensinger -- George C. Gensinger, age 66 and a resident of Albuquerque since 1973, died on September 12, 2000. He was born in Rahway, NJ and had been a substitute teacher at Hawthorne Elementary School since retirement from the US Air Force. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans. He is survived by five sons, George Gensinger, Kevin Gensinger and wife, Cheryl, J.R. Gensinger, Larry Gensinger and wife, Darla and Christopher Gensinger, all of Albuquerque; and a granddaughter, Andrea Gensinger. Hatchitt -- James T. Hatchitt, 51, died Wednesday, September 13th after suffering a heart attack on Saturday, September 9th. Funeral services were held Saturday in Albuquerque. Hopkins -- Louis Allen (Hoppy) Hopkins, Jr., 83, a resident of Albuquerque since 1946 died Wednesday, September 6, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 56 year, Mary Kate and B.J.; brother, Arthur S. Hopkins and wife, B. of Panama City, FL; and cousin, Rev. and Mrs. Paul Hopkins of Albuquerque. Mr. Hopkins was graduated from the University of Michigan in 1941 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. During WWII, Major Hopkins served in the Army Air Corps until 1945. He specialized in ground radar. He went on to complete his Masters in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan in 1946. Mr. Hopkins began a career with Sandia National Laboratories in 1946 that spanned more than three decades. During these years, Mr. Hopkins held positions as Director of Engineering II, and directorships of Component Development, Manufacturing Development, Electromechanical and Chemical Component Development, Space Power Systems, and Development Testing. In 1974, he assumed the position of Technical Staff Director until his retirement in 1977. Mr. Hopkins was a member of Eta Kappa Nu, Sigma Xi, Phi Kappa Phi and Pi Tau Ti. He was also a member and former chairman of the Bernalillo County Planning and Zoning Commission, a member and former Vice-Chairman of the Bernalillo County Parks and Recreation Board, a member of the Council of Governments-Airport Advisory Committee, a member of the Corrales Fire Commission and a member and former Section Chairman of the IEEE. Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, September 19, 2000, 11:00 a.m. at San Ysidro Catholic Church with Father Clarence Galli as Celebrant. Murphy -- Matthew Lee Murphy, 25, died on Monday, September 11, 2000. Matthew is survived by his mother, Linda A. Murphy of Albuquerque; father, Tim Murphy of Mountainaire; sisters, Mandy Murphy, Mary Murphy of Albuquerque and Glenda Murphy of Edgewood; grandmother, Lucille Stewart of Albuquerque. Matthew was born and raised in Albuquerque, then entered in the US Air Force in 1993. He was currently a Staff Sgt. Stationed in Tucson, AZ. During his Air Force career Mathew received several awards such as; Airman of the Quarter, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon, NCO Professional Military Education Graduation Ribbon, and Air Force Training Ribbon. Patton -- Mr. Harvey L. Patton, 84, a resident of Corrales, NM, passed away on September 14, 2000. Mr. Patton is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Catherine; two daughters, Jean Fink and husband, Jim and Nancy Lindsay and husband, Ralph; one sister, Norma Nolle; three sisters-in-law, Flora Patton, Margaret Sauer and Eleanora Straka; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Patton was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during WWII and retired Army Reserve. He was former editor of the National Association Power Engineer Magazine. Visitation will be Monday, September 18, 2000 in the St. Thomas Aquinas Chapel (Newman Chapel) on the campus of the University of New Mexico from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. by Father Bob Keller. Rusek -- Sister Mary Calasantia Rusek (Helen Rusek) died on Saturday, September 16, 2000 at the Felician Sisters Convent in Rio Rancho. She was born on January 14, 1909, in Evanston, Illinois to Anthony and Marianne (Dominiak) Rusek, both of Poland. Sister Calasantia served in Religious Life for 70 years as a Felician-Franciscan. She was certified in the culinary arts by the Fanny Farmer School of Cooking in Boston, Massachusetts, and ministered in nutrition services in schools, convents, and orphanages across ten states for 58 years. She also enjoyed handcrafts and sewing. She is preceded in death by her parents; three infant brothers; brothers, John and Casimir Rusek; sisters, Mary Rusek, Anna Ponkowski and Lottie Milecki. Several nieces and nephews survive her. A Wake Service will be held at 4:30 p.m. and a Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2000. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the convent at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 20, 2000, with Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Serrano -- Jerry H. Serrano, 54, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, September 13, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Martha Serrano; daughters, Tina Serrano and Samantha Serrano; and a son, Jerry Daniel Serrano; step-daughters, Dora Quintana and Josephine Quintana; and his parents, Antonio and Rosanna Serrano; seven grandchildren, Anthony Serrano, 16, Jessica Mena, 9, Isaac Cadena, 14 mos., Jason Serrano, Justin Serrano, Joalda Lopez, 5, and Roberta Lopez, 3 yrs. 9 mos. Also surviving are four sisters, Rosa Gonzales, Rachel Torres, Maryanne Marquez, and Lucille Serrano; two brothers, Phil Vialpando and Jose Leon Serrano; and in-laws, Mr. And Mrs. Avenicio Maestas; and many other family members. Jerry was an active member of American Legion Post 69, he was a hard working man who loved the outdoors, and he enjoyed helping others. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated this morning at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows in Bernalillo. Pallbearers will be Clarence Duran, Anthony Serrano, Paul C de Baca, Steve Jaramillo, Toby Sandoval, and Leroy Maestas. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Cemetery. Smail -- Patricia"Patti" Smail, 46, a resident of Albuquerque for four years and a previous longtime resident of Chicago, IL, died Friday, September 15, 2000. Loving wife and friend, she is survived by her husband of 15 years and soul mate of 20 years, Harry N. Smail, of Albuquerque; her two dogs, Pee Wee and Shadow, that were her daily companions; parents, Jim and Esther Sullivan of La Porte, IN; sisters, Maureen, Jill and Penny; brothers, Jim, Mike and Dan; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Mrs. Smail was a past board member of the Parkland Hills Neighborhood Association. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Monday at 5:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE. Memorial services will also take place on September 23, 2000, 1:00 p.m., at First United Methodist Church, 418 Touhy, in Park Ridge, Il. Tate -- Giles Tate, 84, passed away Friday, September 15, 2000. he was born in Dimmitt, TX, on January 20, 1916. He is survived by his beloved wife, Una, of 62 years; two sons, Byron Tate and wife, Mary of Tucson, AZ, and Boyce Tate and his wife, Helen of Houston, TX; two daughters, Lorene Brazell and her husband, J.L. of Albuquerque, and Gaynell Eubanks of Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Sabrina Strong and husband, Wendell of Des Moines, IA, Judy Brazell of Columbia, SC, Darrell Brazell and wife, Debbie of Lawrence, KS, David Tate of Houston, TX, Brent Tate and wife, Stacey, Tucson, AZ, Paul Tate of Houston, TX, Dan Eubanks and wife, Ronda of Atlanta, GA, and Kandace Eubanks of Atlanta, GA; three great-grandchildren, Justin Basteen, Gracie Brazell and Riley Tate. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a good friend to many others. He will be deeply missed by his wife, family and friends. Services will be held Monday, September 18, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at Montgomery Church of Christ, 7201 Montgomery Blvd. NE, 87109, with Kevin Owen officiating. Tenorio -- Frank Tenorio, resident of Rio Rancho, went with our Lord on September 13, 2000 after a short illness. He was born in Mora, New Mexico on March 14, 1934. Law enforcement was his life. He was a retired State Police officer, private investigator, and owner of a private security company. Frank is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Jo Tenorio. Also surviving are his three sons, Ronald Tenorio and wife, Charlotte, Joseph Tenorio and wife, Margie, and F. James Tenorio. He was also blessed with six grandchildren, Andre, Savannah, Caleb, Meredith and Ricardo Tenorio and Bobby Nunez. In addition, Frank is survived by his mother, Eloisa Tenorio; and sisters, Rosie Salas and husband, Pete, Regina Manzanares and husband, Tito, Norida Simmons and husband, Les, Dorothy Valdez and husband, Al; and a brother, Jerry Tenorio and wife, Sandra. Also surviving Frank is a goddaughter, Jennifer Rocha. Frank also had many in-laws, nieces, and nephews that will miss him dearly. Pallbearers will be John Rocha, Bobby Nunez, Matthew Salas, Tito Manzanares, Larry Valdez and F. James Tenorio. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Rio Rancho today at 12:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Alameda Mortuary. Utterback -- Gertrude (Trudi) Utterback, born April 16, 1920, in Decatur, IL to Claude and Dora Quickel, went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 16, 2000. She was a resident of Albuquerque for 36 years. She is survived by her children, Carol VandenBos and husband, Roger of Kalamazoo, MI, Larry Utterback and wife, Marie-Paule of Albuquerque and Debra Cox and husband, Kenneth also of Albuquerque; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was a member of Trinity Church (Episcopal). Services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at French Mortuary, University Chapel, 1111 University NE, with Rev. Peter Schoew and Rev. Paul Collins, officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, 924 Menaul NE.
