Arka -- Leona A. Arka, beloved aunt, sister and friend to many, died after a valiant battle with time. She is survived by a sister, Norma Horst of Albuquerque; a niece, Merideth Barroso (Francisco) of Fairfax, VA, a niece, Linda Clawson (David) of Albuquerque, a niece, Kelle Sessions of Nampa, ID; a great-nephew, Chris Clawson (Tina) of Albuquerque, a great-nephew, Jason Clawson of Pasadena, CA; other family members in Chicago and many friends. She was born in Chicago, IL on August 25, 1914 and lived there until she moved to Albuquerque in 1979. She was a gentle soul with a heart of gold who saw the good in everyone. We will all miss her. Arnold -- Henry Arnold, age 79, and a resident of New Mexico for 45 years died Saturday, February 5, 2000 in a local hospital following an illness. Mr. Arnold is survived by his wife, Jo Arnold of Albuquerque; three sons, Tommy Arnold of San Diego, CA, Michael Arnold of Laguna Beach, CA and David Arnold of Albuquerque. He is also survived by one sister, Betty Ledbetter of Carrollton, TX; two brothers, W.T. Arnold of Las Vegas, NV and Denson Arnold of Farmington, NM; and six grandchildren. Viewing and Visitation will be held Monday, February 7, 2000 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, February 8, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors, with Pastor Larry Pierson officiating. Dytzel -- Bobby Dytzel of Albuquerque, New Mexico passed away Saturday, February 5, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Nancy of 27 years; son, Billy Dytzel of Albuquerque; daughter, Amy Vanni and husband, James Vanni of Fort Hood, Texas; mother, Billie Dytzel; sisters, Kathy Edgar and Carolyn Fleming; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donald and Junella Robb; numerous in-laws; nieces; and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Bob Dytzel Senior. Bobby was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on March 1, 1953. He attended college at Bethany Nazarene College in Bethany, Oklahoma; where he met his beloved wife, Nancy Robb and they married on December 29, 1972. Bobby received a Bachelors of Business Administration and a Masters of Technical Management from the University of Phoenix in Albuquerque. He was employed as a Technician at Intel. Bobby was a dedicated Christian and enjoyed working in the Children's Puppet Ministry at his church, Sandia Church of the Nazarene. He was an avid golfer, accomplished bowler, author of poetry, lover of music and travel, with an incredible zeal for life. He was known and loved for his sense of humor, warmth and compassion. He enjoyed spending time with his friends, family, and most especially, with his wife and best friend, Nancy. Bobby will be profoundly missed. Services will be held Tuesday, February 8, at 2:00 p.m. at Sandia Church of the Nazarene, 2801 Louisiana Blvd. NE. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park. Epstein -- Samuel Atkins Epstein, 82, a resident of Albuquerque since 1948, died Friday, February 4, 2000. Sam was born in Philadelphia, PA on June 28, 1917 to Meyer and Kittie Epstein. He grew up in Longmeadow, MA along with his sister, Mildred Epstein Greene. After graduating from high school, Sam went to Swarthmore College where he was very active as a reporter for the college newspaper, the Phoenix and also served as a member of the school newspaper board that wrote articles for papers such as the Philadelphia Inquirer and occasionally the New York Times. One of Sam's fondest memories of this period was the time he helped to host Albert Einstein, who had come to visit the Swarthmore campus. After college, Sam worked as a reporter for a small newspaper in Raritan, NJ. After Peal Harbor, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He was eventually stationed in Albuquerque where he met Wanda Seligman, a native of Albuquerque and they were married in 1942. After the war and a brief stint of living in Springfield, MA, Sam and Wanda and their new baby, Ralph, moved back to Albuquerque. There, Sam, along with his brother-in-law, Irving Seligman, established the ZIP Potato Chip Company in 1949, and built the first mechanized potato chip factory in New Mexico. Sam sold the business after more than 15 years of successful operation and became a sales representative of the H.D. Lee Company until his retirement. Sam was very active in Congregation Albert, serving as president of the congregation and was an active member and officer of the Temple's Men's Club. Among his great joys was his weekly gin rummy game with a group of close and dear friends for over 40 years. Sam is survived by his children, Ralph Epstein and wife, Pam of San Anselmo, CA, Ellen Abel and husband, Patrick of Albuquerque, Gerald Epstein and wife, Fran Deutsch of Northampton, MA; nephew, Steven Greene of Short Hills, NJ. Sam is also survived by his grandchildren, Jennifer and Heather Epstein, Matt and Marshall Lammers, Heidi Lammers Wake, Brian and Jeff Abel, Eli Epstein-Deutsch; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Alexandra and Elizabeth Garcia; a very close and special friend, and her family. Services will be held at Congregation Albert at 12:00 noon, Monday, February 7, 2000 with Rabbi Joseph Black and Cantor Jacqueline Shuchat-Marx officiating. Gross -- Rosalie Gross, 95 years old, passed away on February 5, 2000. Born in Belize, British Hondoras, she raised her family in Puerto Rico and New York. Mrs. Gross moved to Albuquerque in 1994 to be closer to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Gross considered Manzano del Sol, her Albuquerque home, the perfect place to live. She loved the warmth of the staff, the friendliness of the neighbors and the beautiful view of the mountains from her apartment. Mrs. Gross is survived by her son, Phillip; her grandchildren, Michael and Kathy, Michele and Tom, Lynn and Brooks, Laurie and Bill; and seven great-grandchildren. He family wishes to thank the nurses, doctors, and staff at St. Joseph's Hospital who cared for her during her last days with great competence and compassion. Graveside Services will be held Monday, 3:00 p.m. at Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery.

Hall -- Minnielee E. Hall passed away on Thursday, February 3, 2000. She was preceeded in death by her husband, A. Richmond Hall in 1972 after 41 years of marriage. She was born in El Paso, Texas, on March 12, 1910. She had been a resident of Albuquerque since August of 1947. She is survived by a son, Bradford Hall; and a daughter, Minette Patten, both of Albuquerque and a daughter, Doreen Hammond of Farmington, New Mexico. She is also survived by grandchildren, Melanie Patten, Diana Montoya and husband, Kevin, Debbie Bevans, Daniel Bevans, Jeff Bevans; and several great-grandchildren. She was an avid bridge enthusiast having belonged and participated in bridge organizations for many years. No services are planned at this time; however, memorial contributions can be made to the New Mexico Boys and Girls Ranch at 6209 Hendrix N.E. 87110.

Johnson -- Mary Lane Johnson On Sunday, February 6, 2000, Mary Lane Johnson passed on to be with our Lord. Mary was born April 5, 1911 on a ranch five miles southeast of Gomez, Texas. Her parents were Joe James Lane and Nora Jane Seitz Lane. At age five, she moved to the Nine Ranch, northwest of Tatum, NM. She was home-schooled until she entered public school in Roswell, New Mexico. Mary graduated from Roswell High School, attended two years of college at Sullins in Bristol, Virginia and one year at A&M College in Stillwater, Oklahoma. She married Carl Asbury Johnson, Jr. of Roswell on November 12, 1933. She became her life partner and best friend, sharing fifty-four years of married life, until his death on July 6, 1987. In 1939, Mary and Carl began their ranching life when they moved to the Diamond & a Half Ranch, Jal, New Mexico. They added to their ranch holdings when they brought the Hackberry Ranch northwest of Tatum and continued ranching throughout their married life. Mary home-schooled her children at the ranch until 1942 when the Johnsons made Lovington, New Mexico their home town. Mary belonged to the Old Round-Up Dance Club, the 1927 Bridge Club and was a Pink Lade with the Nor-Lea Hospital Auxiliary. She was honored by being named Auxiliatian of the Year for 1993. She was a charter member of the P.E.O. Chapter AJ and served as President from 1961-1962. Mary was a member of the First United Methodist Church and of the New Mexico Cattle Growers. Mary was preceded in death by her beloved granddaughter, Melanie Johnson. Mary is survived by two children, Janora J. Bilbo of Wickenburg, Arizona; a son, Carl Lane Johnson and daughter-in-law, Barbara Weaver Johnson of Tatum, NM; four grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews, including Shirley Brown. Mary was the kind of woman you could talk to, hold on to, count on and laugh with. We will miss her strong presence but will always carry her wisdom and love in our hearts. Lujan -- Trinnie Lujan, 45, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, February 3, 2000. Montoya -- Jose R. Montoya, 84, went to be with the Lord, Friday, February 4, 2000. He is survived by his daughters, Monica Harrison and husband, Stan of Los Lunas, Helen Salazar and husband, Alex, Maxine Ramirez and fiancee, Ray Silva, Jeanette Ramirez and husband, Ralph and Therese Maestas, all of Albuquerque; son, Joe A. Montoya and wife, Viola of Santa Fe; 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; special sister-in-law, Josie P. Moya -- Vicenta B. (Bessie) Moya, 85, a resident of Belen, NM was called home to be with the Lord and her loved ones who preceded her in death on Saturday, February 5, 2000. She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Bessie was very active with the Belen Senior Citizens Project Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugeno in 1991. Bessie is survived by her two children, Martha Sanchez and husband, Ernest E. of Rio Communities and Jerry A. and wife, Sonya of Las Maravillas; one beloved grandson, Jesse A. Moya who was the light of her heart; three sisters, Vitalia Olguin of Jarales, NM, Candy Kronig of Pueblitos, NM and Agnis Carrillo and husband, Carlos of Los Padillas, NM. She is also survived by her many loving nieces and nephews. Mullins -- Mary Jane Rouillard Mullins, of 350 White Oaks Dr. NE, died January 26, 2000, in the Kahuku, Hawaii hospital, of massive respiratory failure. Her husband, Joe, was with her when she died. She was born in Stoneham, Massachusetts, June 11, 1920. She graduated from a US Army High School in Frankfort, Germany and later attended school in Switzerland, as well as the Sorbonne in Paris. She graduated from Colby Sawyer College in New Hampshire in 1952. She was married in 1953. A lifelong activist and feminist, she was involved in the League of Women Voters in Pasadena, California, when her husband was at Caltech in graduate school and later on the faculty. When they relocated to New Jersey, she was active with the League as President of the Monmouth County unit, and as a volunteer with Planned Parenthood. She was also elected to the school board there, was appointed to the County Zoning and Planning Boards, and ran unsuccessfully for Mayor of Fair Haven, New Jersey. She was a constant presence in the local schools, working in the elementary library and tutoring French classes. In Albuquerque, she was past President of NARAL/NM Right to Choose, as well as a member of the Board of Directors, and worked as a volunteer at the thrift shop"Choice Stuff". Besides her activity outside the home, she was an avid reader, quilter, and dedicated homemaker. She is survived by her husband, Joe, an emeritus professor at UNM; her two children, Brian of Albuquerque and Kerry of Nashville; and two grandchildren, Teagan and Brianna. An informal memorial gathering is planned for her in Albuquerque at the Albuquerque Marriott from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., February 9, 2000. Friends and family are invited to come and share in the celebration of her life. In lieu of flowers, any donations you choose to make to organizations she supported will be appreciated.

Ortiz and wife, Beatrice of Los Lunas; her brothers, Benny Garcia and wife, Lollie of Richmond, CA, Wilfred and wife, Angie of Fairfield, Connecticut; sister, Tina Lucero and husband, Solomon of Bernalillo, Minnie Garcia of Albuquerque; sister-in-law, Frances Garcia of Bernalillo; grandchildren, Dennis Ortiz and wife, Jessica, Anna Swanson and husband, Louis, Patricia Victorin, Robert Ortiz and wife, Michala, Monica Valenti and husband, Terry, Sabrina Ortiz, Karissa Romero and husband, Chris, and Linda Garcia; great-grandchildren, Patrick, Nicole and Louie Swanson, Christine and Denise Victorin, Lucianita Ortiz, Marianna and Terry Valenti, Kekoa Bullough, Rafael and Reyna Romero, Christopher and Alyssa Garcia; brothers-in-law, Arthur Ortiz and wife, Carolina, Joe Ortiz and wife, Margaret; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Garcia and husband, Diego; and many loving nieces and nephews. Grandma Annie loved her family. Her joy in life was to take excellent care of her beloved husband of 63 years, her four sons, seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Grandma Annie was a generous woman that gave the most precious gift of all her time and her love. She was always willing to sacrifice so she could help others. Grandma Annie was a devoted daughter, she helped care for her parents until their deaths. Grandma Annie was a loving wife, sister, aunt, mother, daughter, grandmother and great grandmother. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated today at 1:00 p.m., at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Bernalillo, with the Interment to follow at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Phillip Dennis Ortiz, Robert Ortiz, Richard Padilla, Terry Vanenti, Chris Romero and Edgar Guerrero. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of the great-grandkids. Quinn -- John F. Quinn, 86, died on February 4, 2000 in Albuquerque, NM. He was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He belonged to the Carmelites and Knights of Columbus and was a long time and active member of Church of the Risen Savior. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna in 1965; his second wife, Frances; and his son, Stephen M. Quinn. He is survived by nine children, John F. Quinn of Pennsylvania, Marie F. Segura of California, William F. Quinn of Albuquerque, James F. Quinn of California, Arthur B. Quinn of Albuquerque, Lawrence A. Quinn and Constance M. Poston, both of California, Catherine F. Arevalo of Albuquerque and Laura F. Stalker of Missouri; a sister, Laura Frances Manktelow of California; and 29 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Ried -- Neva Beth Ried, 90, a resident of Albuquerque since 1946, died Friday, February 4, 2000. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Melvin and husband, Dave of Albuquerque and Beverly Listek and husband, Joe of Albuquerque; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She taught first grade at Sandia Base Elementary School for 23 years and touched the lives of so many children. Rogers -- Falconerez Mary Rogers, 90, passed away February 4, 2000. A native New Mexican, member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Church and active in the Alameda Senior Citizen Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce T. Rogers. She is survived by her daughters, Sally Huddleston; four grandchildren, Prescilla Taylor, James Huddleston, Tommy Huddleston, Billy Huddleston; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Eufelia Hartt; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends who loved and will miss her. Seidel -- Bernard"Bernie" Seidel, 75, a resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, February 2, 2000. Bernard had a long career as a hat manufacturer and distributor in New York, before moving to New Mexico. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at Aspen Funeral Alternatives, 1935 Juan Tabo Blvd. NE, on Monday, February 7, 2000 at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the UNMH Hospital Foundation. Anne would also like to invite all those in attendance to remain at Aspen immediately following services for a time of reception and refreshment.

Sommer -- Nancy T. Sommer, 82, a resident of Belen, NM and formally of New York, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 6, 2000. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many people. Nancy loved living life to the fullest and was always very active. She will be missed dearly. Nancy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Hans T.; her parents, Eliseo and Theresa Criscitiella; one brother, Pellegrino; two sisters, Mary Palladino and Livia Scortochini. She is survived by her two children, Nancy Roselli and husband, Vince and Robert Sommer; three grandchildren, Vincent Roselli of Albuquerque, NM, Sandra Martinez and husband, Jerry, Laura Roselli of Los Lunas; five great-grandchildren, Vinnessa, Victoria and Veronica Martinez, and John and Christopher Silva; three brothers, Pasquale, Frank, and Anthony Criscitiello; her loving companion and brother-in-law, Rosario Alessi. Nancy is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. One of Nancy's favorite sayings was"Death must be the best trip of all, that's why it's saved for last". A Viewing will be held on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at Romero Funeral Home. A Visitation will take place in Kingston, NY. Interment will follow in the Mt. Marion Cemetery, also in Kingston, NY. Romero Funeral Home, 609 N. Main St., Belen, NM.

Valentini -- Frankie J. Valentini, 52, went to Heaven Friday, February 4, 2000. His loving family was by his side and will miss him more than he will ever know. Frankie touched the lives of everyone that knew him. His strength, courage, and willpower extended his life well beyond medical expectations, so that he could know and love his grandchildren. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sydney; son, Brandon and wife, Sarah; four year old granddaughter, Elise, eight month old grandson, Jeremy; his loving in-laws and his two Stakes Winning Thoroughbreds. Widger -- Louis T. Widger, 81, a resident of the Socorro, NM area since 1946, died Saturday, February 5, 2000. He was born in Salem, NJ on September 4, 1918 to William H. and Martha A. (Tetaz) Widger Jr. He graduated from Salem High School in 1936 where he was President of his Senior class. In 1939 he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was stationed at Randolph Field Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX during WWII. He achieved the rank of Tech Sergeant. Louis met and married Alma Lorraine Hediger on July 3, 1943. Louis, Lorraine and their daughter, Paula moved to Bingham, NM in 1946. In 1952 they moved to Socorro. Louis retired from Santa Fe Freight Lines and he and his wife owned and operated Widger's Laundromat in Socorro for many years. Louis helped in organizing youth activities such as Little League Football, basketball and the Socorro Swim Team. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Socorro Senior Village. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lorraine of their home; daughter, Paula Mertz and husband, Neil of Socorro; son, Chuck Widger and wife, Debbie of Las Cruces, NM; brothers, Bill and George Widger of Pennsville, NJ; sister, Betty Towler of Seminole, FL; grandchildren, Brian and Andrea Mertz; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Monday, February 7, 2000 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Steadman-Hall Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, February 8, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Socorro with Rev. Carl Russell officiating. Interment will be in the Socorro Cemetery with Socorro DAV and VFW providing military honors. Pallbearers are: Will Orndorff, William Wrye, Roy Carrejo, Chuck Monette, Al Porte Sr. Marsh Iftner, Carl Dotson and Manny Marquez. Honorary pallbearers are: Holm Bursum III and Floyd Smith. Family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Socorro Public Library, 401 Park St., Socorro, NM 87801 or the New Mexico Boys Ranch, Boys Ranch, NM 87002.
