Anderson -- Carl W. Anderson (Andy), age 55, of Los Chavez, NM, passed away peacefully at Presbyterian Hospital on January 5, 2000, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Anderson is survived by his beloved wife, Loree; mother, Bernice Anderson; son, Aaron Anderson and wife, Susan of Green Valley, CA; daughter, Loryn Lagoy of Winnetka, CA, Aaron Gonzales and wife, Kathryn of Arlington, TX and Adan Gonzales of Denver, CO. Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by his father, the late Alvar B. Anderson. Andy retired from US West in 1999 after 33 years. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his intelligence, creativity, commitment and thirst for knowledge. He loved life, his family, his home, '55 Chevys, and his very special friends. Banks -- Ola J. Banks, 88, died Tuesday, January 4, 2000, in Los Lunas. She had been a resident of Albuquerque since 1959, and was a member of Hoffmantown Church. Mrs. Banks was born on March 2, 1911 in Ft. Worth, TX and born again by faith in Jesus Christ in 1923. A 1928 graduate of Central High School (now R.L. High School) in the same city, she enjoyed a 64 year marriage with William Alton Banks, who preceded her home going. A pianist and lover of gospel music, she served many churches in Texas and New Mexico, both as a pianist and Bible teacher. Her devotion to her family near and far, to the common pleasures of home life and to the furtherance of Christ's kingdom, remain a legacy deeply appreciated. She is survived by one sister, Lou Dorris of Mandeville, LA; and one brother, David L. Jackson and his wife, Nona of McKinney, TX; three children, Charlene Krummel of Albuquerque, Lanelle Hyde of Mansfield, TX and Byron Banks of Los Lunas; five grandchildren, Bruce Krummel of Tijeras, Blake Hyde and his wife, Dot of Dallas, TX, Kelly Hyde of Knoxville, TN, Wendy Banks of Providence, RI and Josie Banks of Los Lunas; four great-grandchildren; and by numerous other relatives and friends. A Funeral service will be held Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Pastor Ray Jaramillo officiating. Brown -- Audie William Brown, 90, a resident of Albuquerque, went to be with the Lord on January 4, 2000. He was born on October 8, 1909 in Elmore City,, OK to Arthur William and Ollie Mae (Burton) Brown. After graduating from Pernell High School in 1928 he moved to Ada, OK to attend East Central State College where he earned Bachelor and Master degrees. He moved to New Mexico in 1965. Mr. Brown was a teacher and school administrator for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, retiring in 1973. He was a devout Christian and member of the Bosque Farms Church of Christ. For many years, he served as a Sunday School teacher and Deacon of the Southwest Church of Christ in Ada, OK and an Elder of the Gallup Church of Christ in Gallup, NM. A kind and devoted husband and father, he was a tower of strength to his family. Mr. Brown is survived by a son, Wayne Brown and wife, Sue; daughter, Carolyn Brown, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Aaron and Hillary Brown, and Trent Burton and wife, Karin, all of Albuquerque, Aimee Brown of Los Angeles, CA; brothers, Earnie Brown and wife, Verda and Darvis Brown and wife, Ida Mae, all of Moore, OK; a niece and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Hassell Priscilla Brown and a granddaughter, Heather Brown. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 8, 2000 in the Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Roger Holm will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Byer -- Frederick J. Byer, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, passed away in his home on Wednesday, January 5, 2000 after a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Connie R. Byer; sons, Kris E. Byer and Frederick J. Byer Jr., all of Los Lunas; and daughters, Tanya Largent and Sanya Milner of Clovis, NM. He is also survived by his mother, Fern L. Buckley of Albuquerque; seven granddaughters; six grandsons; two brothers, Randall D. and Clifford M. Byer; four sisters, Debbie Richardson, Lisa Martinez, Pearl Martinez, all of Albuquerque, Marilyn Fitton of Australia; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and many friends. Fred served his country in the United States Army in 1965 through 1968. He served during the Vietnam Conflict. He worked for many years as a Journeyman Plumber. In his spare time he became an avid Balloonist and Pilot. Fred flew his first AIBF in 1990. He also flew the Farmington Invitational, Colorado Springs Balloon Classic, and many local Rallies. He was also an avid bowler and golfer. He will be missed by all. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2000, 11:00 a.m., at Shepherd of the Valley, 1801 Montano Rd., Albuquerque, NM, with Pastor Carl Boaz officiating. Coggins -- John Dillard"JD" Coggins Jr. passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2000, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Albuquerque. He was a graduate of New Mexico Military Institute and the University of New Mexico. He received his Masters degree from Northwestern University. He served as an officer in the United States Army in Korea. John was active in the agribusiness industry serving as Vice President of the Arizona Colorado Land and Cattle Company and President and CEO of Western Farm Management. He was with the Valley National Bank of Arizona for 15 years, where he served as Senior Vice President. He also served as Executive Vice President of State National Bank in El Paso. John and his wife, Zoe Ann retired to Rio Rancho in 1997. He is survived by his wife, Zoe Ann Coggins; three children, Mark, Lynnette and John; and six grandchildren. Services will be held Saturday, 2:00 p.m., at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 601 Montano Rd. NW. Interment will follow at Vista Verde Memorial Park. Gallegos -- Carmen Gallegos, 40, passed away January 5, 2000. She was preceded in death by her son and father. Garcia -- Natividad Garcia, age 87, of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, January 5, 2000. Greene -- Harold Hoyt Greene, 85, a resident of Mountainair, NM since 1918, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2000 in Belen, NM. Harold was born May 18, 1914 in Artesia, NM to John Reese and Esther Gertrude (Perkins) Greene. He married Roberta Mae Bates on November 6, 1932 in Mountainair, NM, she preceded him in death on April 23, 1999. Harold was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Mountainair, NM and was a mechanic in Mountainair for many years. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Mr. Greene is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry Lee and Carol Greene, Jack Hoyt and Rosemary Greene, and Jim Y. and Dorothy Greene; one daughter, Sylvia Jo-An Greene; one brother, Donald Lee Greene; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Harold will lie in state Friday, January 7, 2000, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Mountainair, NM. Gutierrez -- Mr. Juan P. Gutierrez, 79, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on January 5, 2000. Mr. Gutierrez was the beloved husband of 30 years to Mrs. Dora Gutierrez. He is also survived by four daughters, Cynthia Gallegos and husband, Leonard, Frances Sandoval, Christina Sandoval and Priscilla Garcia and husband, Richard; two sons, Donald Rivera and Johnny Ray Gutierrez; two sisters, Maggie Aldaz, and Anita Gonzales and husband, Ben; two brothers, Erineo Gutierrez and wife, Jovita and Lorenzo Aldaz; 13 grandchildren, Andrea, Sarah, James, Teresa, Briana, Chantel, Shirray, Richard Jr., Christopher, D.J., Johnathan, John D., and Eric. Mr. Gutierrez was a member of the Catholic Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in WWII, a member of the V.F.W. Post 6216, serving Seam Squirrel for M.O.C. Pup Tent 18, member of the D.A.V., Chapter 3, and American Legion, Post 69. Kettles -- Richard A. Kettles, born in Dell, Arkansas, December 2, 1920, one of nine children, died in Albuquerque, January 4, 2000, having resided in Albuquerque since his discharge from the Army in 1948. A World War II Veteran, his military record included being involved in loading the first atom bomb into the Enola Gay, and he will be honored for his service to his country at the World War II Memorial, which is scheduled to open in June of 2000. He was a professional truck driver for over 35 years, amassing an outstanding driving record of over 16 million safe driving miles, accident free, without so much as a traffic citation. He is survived by his wife of over 56 years, Margaret Taylor Kettles, also one of nine children; his four children, Richey Kettles and wife, Linda, Linda Kettles Brown and husband, Charles, Judy Kettles Yearly and husband, Don, and Tom Kettles and wife, Ida; 12 grandchildren, Richey, Debbie, Susie, Jessica, Cheyenne, Bill, Callie and husband, Bill, Travis, Donny, Laura and husband, Mike, Pam and fiance, J.D., Tommy and fiance, Michelle; ten great-grandchildren; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and many friends. He was a devoted family man who worked hard all his life so that his family never had to want for anything. He was greatly loved by all his family and friends, and will be sorely missed by all. His body will lie in state 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, in the Chapel of Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors. Interment with Military Honor provided by the American Legion Post 13 will follow at 12:30 p.m. in the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Lewis -- Elfi Lewis, 73, of Grants, NM, went to be with the Lord on January 3, 2000. She was a resident of Grants since 1964, where she arrived with her six children from Germany. She was brought here and is survived by her sister, Christa Garcia and husband, Dr. Arthur Garcia of Albuquerque; seven sisters and one brother in Germany. She accomplished many things in her life, but her greatest pride and joy was her family. She will be greatly missed by her children, Karin Vallo and husband, Henry of Bernalillo, Tina Ford and husband, Arnold of Grants, Birgit Chacon of Farmington, Klaus Sthalhut of Bluewater, NM, Connie Walter of Santa Fe, Andrea Lovato and husband, Pat of Santa Fe and Mike Lewis and wife, Heidi of Santa Fe; 14 grandchildren, Daniel, Scotty, Heidi, Jeremy, Julie, Beverly, Marc, Leslie, Lorelee, Holly, Emily, Jody, Bradley and Spencer; 15 great-grandchildren, Anthony, James, Jimmy, Johnny, Annmarie, Tyler, Ryan, Amanda, Christina, Mathew, Joshua, Andrew, Mariah, Savanah and Megan. Lucero -- Luis A. Lucero, 83, a resident of Rio Rancho for the past five years, coming to Rio Rancho from Los Alamos, passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2000. Luis was born November 9, 1916, the son of Abel E. and Ursula Garcia Lucero in Los Luceros, New Mexico. He had been an Explosive Specialist with the Los Alamos National Laboratories before retiring. Luis served in the US Army during WWII as a paratrooper. He was a member of the American Legion Post 90 and the VFW. Luis was married to Margaret Ulibarri on March 23, 1944 at the St. Francis Cathedral in Santa Fe. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margaret Lucero of Rio Rancho; four children, Theresa A. Lucero of Albuquerque, Patricia L. Ytuarte and husband, Edward of Santa Fe, L. Anthony Lucero and wife, Janell of Los Osos, CA, Marcel U. Lucero and wife, Eleanor of Rio Rancho; three sisters, Ursula Ortiz and husband, Candido, Delia Sedillo and husband, Johnny, Alice Gomez and husband, Frank; two brothers, Fred Lucero and wife, Emily and Claude Lucero and wife, Virginia; eight grandchildren, Paul Ytuarte, Kenneth Ytuarte, Bryan Ytuarte, Gabriel Lucero, Nicolas Lucero, Emily Lucero, Marcel Lucero Jr., and Stewart Lucero; one great-grandson, Alex Ytuarte. Mellon -- Hugh"Sunday" Mellon, 59, a talented impressionistic artist, passed away January 2, 2000 in Phoenix from a long illness. Mercado -- Isabel Mercado, 56, beloved and devoted mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, was called home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, January 4, 2000. Mrs. Mercado was a resident of Santa Ana, CA and was employed with Eaton Corporation for 33 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ramiro V. and Rita G. Rodriguez. Mrs. Mercado is survived by her loving daughter, Rita Mercado-Zambrano and son-in-law, Michael A. of Albuquerque; her granddaughter, Maya Isabel Zambrano; one brother, Ramiro G. Rodriguez and wife, Victoria of Schertz, TX; two sisters, Celia Cantu and Soledad Alejandre, both of Santa Ana, CA. Also surviving are seven nieces; six nephews; and 28 grandnieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her loving family. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated this afternoon, 4:00 p.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Swanson -- Dr. Robert A."Bob" Swanson died on Tuesday, January 4, 2000. He was 80 years old. He is survived by his wife, Addie Hill Swanson; and his son, Paul, his wife, Kathy, and grandchildren, Matthew and Mark Swanson of Albuquerque; and his sister, Ava Solberg and husband, Darwin of Bismarck, North Dakota. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Margaret Ann Thompson Swanson. He was born on December 19, 1919 in Mandan, North Dakota. After graduation from Mandan High School he served in the US Navy aboard the SS Polaris during World War II. He earned a B.S. degree from North Dakota State University in Fargo, a Master's from the University of Colorado and a Ph.D. from the University of Northern Colorado in Educational Psychology and Guidance. He held Guidance Counselor Certificate number 2 in New Mexico. He served as the Director of Guidance in Santa Fe and Farmington schools before moving to the State Department of Education in 1964. There he served as the Director of Guidance and Special Education and Director of the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. He retired in 1982 as the Deputy State Superintendent of Education in New Mexico. He was a Mason, a member of the Santa Fe Rotary Club, and an active member of St. John's United Methodist Church and the Woh Tani class, where he was the teacher for many years. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the St. John's United Methodist Church Memorial Fund. Memorial services will be held at the St. John's United Methodist Church, 1200 Old Pecos Trail, on Friday, January 7 at 11:00 a.m.

Talley -- Jim Talley was born July 29, 1937 in Carrizozo, New Mexico. He attended schools in the Hondo Valley, graduating from Hondo High School in 1956. Jim attended Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico as a music major before becoming a popular radio personality with KGFL and KKAT in Roswell, New Mexico during the 1960's. He later completed his BS Degree in Psychology while working as a Vocational Rehabilitation Trainer and Counselor with New Mexico Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. Upon retirement from New Mexico DVR in 1993, Jim moved to Austin, Texas, where he worked for Texas Rehabilitation Commission up to the time of his death. Jim loved all music and was accomplished trumpet player, playing professionally during his college years. He was a baseball and car racing fan, and he loved to tinker with all kinds of electronics. Jim was well respected and known as a champion of the underdog. He dedicated his life to helping give a leg-up to persons with disabilities and other people who were less fortunate. He was a great role model for persons with disabilities, advocating for civil rights and working to ensure access to technology needed to help the disabled lead productive lives. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, and those whose lives he touched. Jim is survived by his two daughters, Christine L. Talley of Taos and Alicia C. Talley of Albuquerque; a sister, Pat Frisbie and her husband, Dick of Austin, TX; step-mother, Dorothy Talley of Alamogordo; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services were held at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home in Austin on Wednesday, January 5. Jim will be buried on Saturday, January 8, 2000 at 12:00 noon in Tinnie, New Mexico, where he grew up. Thul -- Mary Helen Thul, age 75, passed away Tuesday morning, January 4, 2000, at her home. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Adolph G. Thul; son, Bruce E. Thul and wife, Margarita A. Pardo; and daughter, Linda R. Hale of Albuquerque; and grandsons, Michael D. Hale, Keith W. Hale, and Jimmy L. Pardo-Thul; and granddaughters, Tia R. Pardo-Thul and Jessica A. Pardo-Thul. She is also survived by her sister, Roberta Joan Grady and Patricia Ann Greer; and brother-in-law, Tom Grady Jr. of Roswell; four nieces, two nephews, three grandnieces and four grandnephews. Mary was preceded in death by her father, Horace E. Flurry; mother, Ruby Lena Robinson Flurry; and brother-in-law, Ralph G. Greer. She belonged to the Order of Eastern Star Queen City #697 of Illinois. Although we will miss her terribly, we take comfort in knowing she's gone to her home in heaven. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 7, 2000, at the Chapel of Fitzgerald & Son with internment following at Sunset Memorial Park with Dale E. Nelson, Philip W. Clark, Michael D. Hale, Keith W. Hale, Stephen J. Watkins, J. Randolph Grady, Joshua D. Nelson, P. Aaron Clark and Tom Grady Jr. serving as pallbearers. Trowbridge -- Irene Trowbridge, 85, a resident of Albuquerque for 40 years, died Wednesday, January 5, 2000. She is survived by her brother, Chester Dohrer and his wife, Mildred of Tucumcari, NM; sister, Alvera Hagedorn and husband, Clarence of Lubbock, TX; sister-in-law, Bernice Dohrer of Mesa, AZ; and special friend, Mary Moore of of Albuquerque. Mrs. Trowbridge is preceded in death by her husband, Owen A. Trowbridge and a brother, Raymond Dohrer. She and Own will be missed greatly by her Family and Nick & Loretta Madrid. Wade -- Donald B. Wade, 81, a resident of Albuquerque since 1945, died Wednesday, January 5, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Adelina Wade; sons, Robert L. Wade and wife, Vicky and Richard C. Wade and partner, Martin Reiter; grandson, Robert L. Wade II; granddaughter, Selina M. Wade; great-grandson, Kiefer Glenn Wade, all of Albuquerque; sister, Edithadele Jensen of Florida; nieces, Gerrie Birk and husband, Donald, Vanessa Wilke and husband, Mike, Phyllis Gruszka and husband, Frank; nephews, Wade Jensen and wife, Susan and Andre Panebouef; brother-in-law and special buddy, Dan Panebouef; brother-in-law, Armando Panebouef and wife, Connie; and many loving friends and family. Don was preceded in death by his sons, Donald L. Wade and Glenn E. Wade y Panebouef. He was born in Gary, Indiana. Don came to New Mexico in 1945 while serving in the U.S. Army and retired from the military after 11 years. He was stationed in Los Alamos with the Manhattan Engineers and then transferred to Sandia Base. Don then worked as a civilian at the Sandia Labs until retirement. He was a friend to everyone he met. Don loved to tell stories of his long and varied life. He will be greatly missed by all his many friends and family. Services will be held Saturday, 1:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE.
