Arvizo -- Bertha Arvizo, 57, passed away Thursday, May 6, 1999 at her home in Datil, NM. She was born September 20, 1941 to Delfido and Elvira Jaramillo DeLao in Aragon, NM. She is survived by her husband, Manuel Arvizo; her father, Delfido DeLao of Horse Springs, NM; children, Daniel DeLao of Albuquerque, Manuel Arvizo Jr. of Datil, NM, Elvira DeLao of Albuquerque, Suzy Gurule of Los Lunas, Yolanda Marquez and Alice Chavez, both of Albuquerque; brothers, Johnny DeLao of Reserve, NM, Robert DeLao of Springerville, AZ and Steve DeLao of Oklahoma; sisters, Gloria Ray of Texas, Theresa Pierce of Reno, NV, Lorenza DeLao of Silver City, NM, Linda Aragon of Reserve and Elisa Aragon of Horse Springs, NM; eight grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. She was a beloved mother, loving wife and endearing grandmother. Barreras -- Flora L. Barreras, age 92, passed away at her home in La Bajada on May 9, 1999. She was born to Cipriano and Guadalupe Lucero in Cerrillos, NM on September 16, 1906. She is survived by son, Henry L. Barreras; brothers, Joe A., Abad E., and Arnold Lucero; sister, Aurora Griego; grandchildren, Robert A. and Bruce G. Barreras, Evangeline Tinajero, Carol McMillan, Terri Molina, Richard D. and Arthur D. Barbosa; great-grandchildren, Darrin N. Muenzberg, Julie and Rob Barreras, Christine and Michael McMillan, Bradley and Victoria Barreras, Charles Aragon, Mariesa and Vanessa Barbosa and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Enrique (Henry) L. Barreras; her daughter, Consuelo Barbosa; her brothers, Cipriano L. and Osmundo Lucero; and her sister, Lucia Lucero. During the years Mrs. Barreras lived in California, she was an active member of The Sons and Daughters of New Mexico, The Women's Democratic Club, and the Gardena Valley Artists Association. Mrs. Barreras gave art classes in her home and at various community centers for many years. She attended Cerrillos High School and the Frank Wiggins Art School in Los Angeles, CA. She married Enrique (Henry) L. Barreras in November, 1925 in Cerrillos, NM. Mrs. Barreras was instrumental in the restoration of the San Miguel Church in the Village of La Bajada by donating her time, resources and artwork to see that the church was saved from neglect and near ruin. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and sister. Visitation for Mrs. Barreras will be Thursday, May 13 at 6:00 with Rosary being recited at 7:00 PM at the San Miguel Church at La Bajada Village. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 14 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Pena Blanca with The Reverend Joe Redinbo, celebrant. Brown -- Mary Leona Brown, a resident of Albuquerque for 45 years, died Tuesday, May 11, 1999 in a local hospital following an illness. Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband, James Buster Brown of Albuquerque; one brother, John Childs and his wife, Martha of Dallas, TX; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Marguerite Wetherbe. Mrs. Brown was a member of First United Methodist Church. She retired from the Albuquerque Public Schools in 1980 after having taught for 34 years. Giroux -- Oleta Waldon Giroux, 78, passed away Sunday evening, May 9, 1999. She was born in Tuttle, OK to James and Helen Waldon, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Clyde; five children, Clyde Jr., Bruce, Sharon Muncy and husband, Roy, Kat and Debbie Chavez and husband, Henry; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Jack and Bob Waldon. Oleta was the head occupational nurse at Hughes Aircraft Company in El Segundo, CA. After 25 years at Hughes, she retired and moved to Albuquerque where she worked at Lovelace Occupational and Sports Medicine for 10 years. At the time of her death, she was President of the Haskell Foundation. Memorial services will be held Friday, 9:30 a.m., at The Cathedral Church of St. John, 4th Street at Silver SW, with Canon Byron McDougall officiating. She is survived by her son, Marvin E. Gracie of Albuquerque; her daughter, Kathleen Frappier and grandson, Donald Frappier of Los Lunas; and daughter, Sandra Stoldt (Craig) and grandson, Brian Hawley of Buffalo, NY. Laforest -- Maurice J. LaForest, 71, a resident of Albuquerque since 1950, died Tuesday, May 11, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Ida Giomi LaForest; sister, Pauline A. LaForest; niece, Dr. Thelma A. Giomi; brother-in-law, James Giomi and wife, Esma, all of Albuquerque; sister, Jean Miller; niece, Lori Williams, both of Oakdale, CA; sisters, Gilberta Farnwalt of Shelby, OH and Ann Nelson and husband, Dick of Galion, OH; brothers, Rodger LaForest and wife, Marion of Florida, Pat LaForest and Bob LaForest and wife, Caroline, all of Galion, OH; nephew, Mike Miller and wife, Lorraine of Oakdale, CA; many other nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews. Mr. LaForest served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He worked for 49 years at Lee Galles Oldsmobile. Mr. LaForest was a member of the Elk's Lodge and a former member of the New Mexico Mounted Patrol. Miller -- Kenneth C. Miller, 78, a resident of Albuquerque since 1984, died on Friday, April 23, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruth Miller of the family home; son, Douglas B. Miller and wife, Linda of Garden City, MI; granddaughters, Chelsea R. Miller and Charla M. Brown of Mobile, AL. Mr. Miller spent 2 1/2 years in the Army Air Force during World War II. She was born in Colorado Springs, CO and was preceded in death by her brother, John P. Moss; and step-mother, Florence E. Moss. Ms. Morgan is survived by her companion, Thurman Sago; the father of her children, Arlen Morgan; son, Joseph Morgan and his wife, Shelly; two daughters, Marilyn Morgan and Loretta Morgan; three grandchildren, all of Mescalero, NM; father, Stanley J. Mortimer -- Forrest Edward Mortimer, 86, a former resident of Denver, CO and a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Wednesday, May 12, 1999 in a local hospital. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Emma Mortimer; two daughters, Carol Simpson and husband, John of Manson, WA, and Patricia Ann Perovich and husband, David, Albuquerque; one sister, Grace Slagle, Greeley, CO; grandchildren, John Simpson III and wife, Myrna, Charles Simpson and wife, Sylvia, Penny McGrath and husband, Doug, Mark Perovich, Davelyn Ireland and husband, Scott, Tony Perovich, Carol Perovich and Kelly Perovich; and numerous great-grandchildren. Mr. Mortimer was a pioneer of the Mt. Bell Telephone Company in Denver, CO and retired after 31 years of service. He liked people and put everyone he met at ease. He liked to fish and loved the Denver Broncos. Mr. Mortimer and wife, Emma made their home at Vista Del Rio Retirement Community. Nellos -- Joanna Nicholas Nellos, 87, a resident of Albuquerque for 40 years, died Sunday, May 9, 1999. Poole -- John F. Poole, 75, a resident of Albuquerque for 41 years, died Wednesday, May 12, 1999. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace (Wynn) Poole. John retired from Metropolitan Life in 1985. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY and moved to Albuquerque in 1958. He was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church. He was a past Grand Knight and a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus. He was a volunteer at UNM Golf Course where he was an avid golfer. He is survived by his children, Andrea Poole and husband, Alex Traube of Santa Fe, John R. Poole of Tucson, AZ, Rochelle E. Howard and husband, Willie, Danette M. Jenkins and husband, Ron, and Erica S. Thedford -- Edna Lou Thedford, 64, passed away on May 11, 1999 at 5:00 a.m. She was a happy-go-lucky woman. Momma Lou was a great mother and grandmother to her kids. She rodeoed and drove a truck most of her life. She was loved by many. Her three sons, Ricky, Montie and Chris Thedford; and her loving daughter, Trisha, survive her. She also has five grandchildren, Justin, Timmy, Michelle, Levi and Tanner Thedford. She will always live in our hearts. The funeral will be held in McIntosh at the Calvary Church on Monday, May 17 at 12:00 noon.
