DEAGUERO -- Andrea S. Deaguero went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 in Albuquerque at the age of 83. She was born November 30, 1925 in Springer, New Mexico. She was a beloved mother, sister and aunt, and will be missed. Mrs. Deaguero is preceded in death by her husband, Tomas Deaguero; parents, Jose and Senovia Sanchez; brothers, Gomercindo and Eufelio Sanchez; and her sister, Mary Martinez. She is survived by her sons, Robert Deaguero and Roy Deaguero; siblings, Joe Sanchez and wife, Alice, Josephine Atencio, Cruzita Valencia and husband, Leo, and Jesse Sanchez and wife, Josie; as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation for Mrs. Deaguero will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2009 from 12:00 p.m until 4:00 p.m. at Salazar & Sons Mortuary. FEDERICI -- William R. Federici, Born on July 15, 1917, passed away in Santa Fe on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at the age of 92. Bill was born in Cimarron, New Mexico, the son of Narcisco and Divina Federici, who immigrated to the United States from Spezia, Italy, in 1903. He attended elementary schools in Cimarron and Colfax, NM and graduated from high school in Dawson, NM in 1934. He graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1939 and from the University of Colorado Law School in 1941. Bill served as an assistant attorney general of New Mexico in 1941. He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific from 1942-1946 during World War II. On VE Day, May 8, 1945 he married Elsie Marie Frizell at St. Joseph Catholic Church Rectory in Springer, NM. Bill and Elsie lived in Washington, D.C. while he served as an aide to Congressman A.M. Fernandez. In 1946 he returned to the New Mexico Attorney General's office, then in 1948 joined the law firm of Seth and Montgomery in Santa Fe and became a partner shortly thereafter. Bill served on the Supreme Court of New Mexico from 1977 1987, the last two years as Chief Justice. He then returned to the Montgomery firm in the capacity "Of Counsel." In 2005 he became Counsel Emeritus. Bill is a member of the New Mexico State Bar (inactive). He served as President of the State Bar, 1970-1971, and was a member of the New Mexico State Bar Commission. He is a Fellow of the American College of Probate Counsel (1965). Some of his awards include the University of Colorado Law School Alumni Award for Distinguished Service in the Judiciary (1991); the State Bar of New Mexico Distinguished Bar Service Award (1991); the State Bar of New Mexico Professionalism Award (1996); State Bar of New Mexico Century of Achievement Award (1999); the National Italian American Bar Association Achievement Award (2000); the American Inns of Court Professionalism Award for the US Court of Appeals, Tenth Circuit (2000); and the UNM Zia award (2002). Bill prided himself on making time to help others and providing pro-bono work to those in need. In his personal life, Bill enjoyed the outdoors, which included family trips to Yellowstone and Red River, fishing, hunting, boating and traveling both in the U.S. and abroad. He enjoyed family get-togethers, singing in harmony with his sisters and eating good food. In his later years he enjoyed his poker groups, horse racing and the casinos. Bill is survived by his sister, Ann Federici-Martin; children: Linda Stevens, Richard Federici, Larry Federici (Lora), and Gina Federici (Buck Rackley); grandchildren: Eric Federici and Staci Stevens (David Valentino); great-granddaughter, Carmen Jaye Valentino; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Elsie; parents; brother Fred; sisters Benezia and Emma and her husband Lento. Public visitation will begin on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. at Berardinelli Family Chapol in Santa Fe with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Celebration will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2009 at The Cathedral Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi at 12:00 noon. MOORE -- Baylee Hunter Moore passed peacefully in the loving arms of her mom and dad on august 8, 2009. Baylee was born September 21, 2008. From the day she was born she had a special spirit about her, and in the little time she was here on Earth, she was able to touch many lives of family and friends. Her life was a gift to all that knew her and that will live on as her tissue was donated and received by those who were in need. Baylee is the daughter of Sean and Rebekah Moore of Springer, New Mexico. She is survived by her sister, Taylor and brother Jordan; maternal grandparents, Jim Ellis of Corrales, NM and Jan Ellis of Van Horn, TX; paternal grandparents, Deke and Linda Moore of Corrales, NM; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and wonderful friends. The Visitation will be held today, Friday, August 14, 2009 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho. SUMMERLIN -- Thomas H. Summerlin, a high school teacher and coach in New Mexico for nearly 30 years, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2009. He taught and coached in Springer, NM, from 1970-1975 and in Mountainair, NM, from 1975-2000. He touched the lives of many young people in New Mexico and will not be forgotten. SANCHEZ -- Joe Robert Sanchez, age 78, surrounded by his loved ones, was lifted up to heaven to join our Lord on Wednesday, January 28, 2009. He resided in Santa Rosa, New Mexico and Las Vegas, New Mexico for many years until his recent illness brought him to Albuquerque to be close to his family. He was born on July 6, 1930 in Anton Chico, New Mexico to Adelaido and Angela Sanchez. During his 35 year career as an educator, Joe Robert served the Las Vegas area Retiree Educators Association as both President and Vice-President. He earned a B.A. and M.A. degree from New Mexico Highlands University, with a B.A. degree with a major in Business Education, a minor in Social Studies, and his M.A. degree with a major in School Administration, a minor in Business Education at the secondary level. His teaching career began at the New Mexico Boy's School in Springer as a classroom teacher and also as a classroom teacher at Santa Rosa High School. Joe Robert retired from the West Las Vegas Schools where he served in several capacities, High School Principal, Armijo Elementary School Principal, Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent, Director of the Emergency School Assistance Act, classroom teacher at Trementina Elementary School, and Director of the Head Start Program. Joe Robert was an active member of several professional organizations including NEA New Mexico, Council for the Improvement of Education, P.T.A. Classroom Teachers Association, and Head Start Association. He also served as chairman of the Community Development Institute Board of Directors, Vice-Chairman of NEA-NM Commission on School Legislation and Finance, Professional Practice and Ethics Commission, Region VI Head Start Board of Directors, and Luna Community College Board of Directors. A Korean War Veteran, Joe Robert served four years in the U. S. Air Force. He served overseas in Korea and Japan. He was also active in several civic and veterans' organizations, as well as a loyal member of the San Miguel Democratic Party. Joe Robert is survived by his wife, Mary Lou (Serrano); daughter, Marga of Albuquerque; Son, Phillip and wife Martha of Menlo Park, CA; two grandchildren, Nathan, and Erin; brothers and sisters, Luis G. Sanchez and wife Maria Teresa, Jose G. Sanchez and wife Elizabeth, Max R. Sanchez and wife Annadelle, Daniel Sanchez, Martina Cordova, Vivian L. Sanchez, Adeline S. Chavez and husband Dan, and Patricia M. Sanchez; Brothers and sisters-in-law, Petra Sanchez, Marie Ozila Ortega and husband Eric, Loretta Campos, and Gilbert Campos, Eddie Serrano and wife Camilla, and Pamela McCue; numerous nieces and nephews will all miss their Uncle Robert. Joe Robert was a loving and compassionate person to all he encountered through his journey in life. GARCIA -- Phillip R. Garcia, 72, went to be with our Lord January 12, 2009, at Sangre De Cristo Hospice Home in Pueblo, CO. Through his tremendous faith in God and by the prayers of his family and friends he fought a very courageous fight with cancer. He was born May 26, 1936, in Pasamonte, the son of Leopoldo and Maria Inez Romero Garcia. Phillip was a resident of Springer, New Mexico and a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. He was a United States Army Veteran serving our country proudly. In 1959, he was drafted into service. After completing training in Fort Benning, Georgia he was assigned to the 15th Infantry Battle Group in West Germany. Upon his discharge in 1961, he returned to employment at the New Mexico Boys School as a correctional officer. However, during the Berlin Crisis, Phillip was recalled to active duty for two more years. Phillip was honorably discharged with the rank of Seargent and once again returned to work at the New Mexico Boys' School. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Behavioral Science in May 1974 from New Mexico Highlands University. Thus changing from working in the lodges and began teaching Special Education. He retired in 1992 after 33 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Steve Garcia and Richard Garcia; infant sister Lucinda Garcia; sister Jessie Martinez and her husband, Miguel Martinez. He is survived by his wife Eva Garcia of Springer; daughter Debbie Garcia of Las Vegas, NM; granddaughter Stephanie Garcia of Denver; sisters Beatrice Gallegos and husband Gilbert of Albuquerque, Audelia "Lela" Ramirez and husband Richard of Glendale, Calif., Helen Talbo and husband Joe of Tacoma, Wash., Inez Marrs and husband Bob of Memphis, Texas; brothers Eddie Garcia and wife Linda of Springer, NM and Chris Garcia and wife Irene of Ribera, NM; and sister in law Bella Garcia of Albuquerque. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Eloisa Vigil and husband Tom of Springer, Arcilia Lopez and husband Gilbert of Raton, brothers-in-law Alvin Sedillo and wife Mary of Albuquerque, Elsio Sedillo and wife Judy of Riverton, Utah, Isidro Sedillo and wife Pat of Tennessee; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will take place Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Springer. Solemn Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Springer with Father John Cannon as the celebrant. Rite of Committal and interment will take place Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe. Pallbearers are Gilbert O. Gallegos, David John Garcia, Steven Garcia, Charlie Marrs, Eddie Lopez, and Ronnie Seidel. Honorary pallbearers are Tom Vigil, Gilbert Lopez, Charlie Garcia, Isidro Bernal, Robert Portillos, Johnny Rivera, Sam Roy, and Lawrence Des Champs. Funeral arrangements for Phillip R. STEWART -- Dr. M. Buren Stewart, 92, former pastor of St. John's United Methodist Church in Albuquerque, passed away Thursday, October 9, 2008. Dr. Stewart, son of S. M. and Katie Stewart, pioneer settlers in territorial New Mexico, was born near Grady, NM on Friday, December 17, 1915. He graduated from Clovis High School and attended Eastern New Mexico University the first two years of its existence, and received his B. A. Degree from Highlands University and completed one half of his masters from the University of New Mexico. On Sunday, August 21, 1938, he married Gladys Ellen Crump of Clovis, NM. Dr. Stewart taught three years at Springer High School and then went to work for "The National Youth Administration." He was principal of Santa Rosa, New Mexico Elementary School when he entered the service in World War II. He served in the 42nd Army (Rainbow) Division. He was in the unit which liberated Dachau Concentration Camp. At the end of World War II, Dr. Stewart began his theological training at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, which he completed at Northwestern University (Garrett Theological) Chicago in 1948. The Stewarts only child, Joseph Martin, was born in Rockford, IL, in 1947. Dr. Stewart served churches which ranged from fewer that 100 members to churches with a membership of over 2,300. He served two six-year terms as District Superintendent in the Carlsbad and El Paso Districts. Other appointments served were Ranchvale, Ruidoso, Eunice, Las Vegas, Odessa, Texas (Highland), Grace Alamogordo and St. Johns' United Methodist Church, Albuquerque. At St. John's, Dr. Stewart, as Senior Pastor for nine years, completed a building program costing almost one million dollars, and retired in 1983. He was a delegate to five Jurisdictional Conferences, Three General Conferences and one World Methodist Conference. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Ellen Crump; his parents; and only siblings, Ruby Rucker and Winnie Briggs. Dr. Stewart is survived by his son, Joseph M. Stewart of Albuquerque; nephews, Gene Rucker and wife, Patty of Hobbs, NM, Terry Stovall and wife, Pam, Wayne Reid and wife, Donna of Clovis, NM; nieces, Lennie and husband, Dr. David Townsend of Alamogordo, Melva and husband, Everette Jaycox of Alto, NM, Carlene S. Briggs of Cloudcroft, NM, Nelva and husband, Wesley Williams, of Hobbs, NM, Sharon and husband, Dr. Merle Benson of Albuquerque, Marla and husband, Mike Wersonick of Edgewood, NM and Jane Rucker of Texas. In addition, Dr. Stewart is survived by several great-nephews and nieces all of whom he was proud. Services will be held Monday, October 13, 2008, 11:00 a.m., at St. John's United Methodist Church, 2626 Arizona NE. Interment will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens, 1601 E.
