Viviani -- Henry (Bud) Joseph Viviani Jr. died peacefully at his home on February 8, 1999. Bud was 49, born May 26, 1949. Bud is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen; and sons, Sean Joseph and Derek Ray of the family home. He is also survived by his loving parents, Henry J. and Edna M. Viviani Sr.; sister, Diana Barasch and husband, Guy of Virginia; brothers, Tom Viviani and wife, Claire of Los Lunas, NM, Richard Viviani of Albuquerque; and sister-in-law, Karen Moya and husband, Leroy of Albuquerque. Also surviving are nephews, J. Michael Barasch, Joseph Viviani; and niece, Christine Viviani. Bud was a native New Mexican who loved his family and was a very loving father, husband, son and friend. He graduated from Highland High School in 1947 and went on to UNM. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a wonderful family man. Bud was always very successful at what he chose to do. He had several interests such as falconery, race cars, football and loved watching his sons play basketball. Bud was truly loved and will be terribly missed. We love you Bud! The Rosary will be recited 7:30 p.m., Wednesday evening at Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors, 3113 Carlisle NE. Mass ofChristian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Thursday, at St. Augustine Church, Isleta. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Dad-I love you more than you can imagine. Baca -- Dennis Joseph Baca, 28, passed away Thursday, February 4, 1999. He was born on June 13, 1970 in Albuquerque. Dennis is survived by his daughters, Amanda Marie Baca, Nicole Ashley Baca; his mother, Eva Vargas; father, Dennis J. Baca, Sr; brothers, Danny Acosta and wife, Henrietta, Tony Baca and wife, Eva; sisters, Darlene Griego and husband, Cipriano, Denise Hereda, Tammy Villicana and husband, Beto, Debbie Chavez and husband, Albert, Pamela Franich and husband, George; nephews, Daniel, Manuel, Gabriel Acosta, Ben Heredia, Adam Nicolas Baca, Joey Griego, Betito Villicana, Patrick Franich; nieces Michelle, Felicia Griego, Esperanza, Desiree Baca, Antonia Heredia, Andrea Baca, Melinda, Amy Acosta; great nieces, Chasity, Alicia Sanchez; great nephews, Andrew Sanchez and Daniel III. Visitations will be held Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service which will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Garcia Mortuary with Pastor Tom Pennington officiating. Rice -- Juanita G. Rice, 93 years of age, and resident of Ojo Caliente passed away yesterday, February 5, 1999 at the Espanola Hospital after a sudden illness. She was an active member of the Sociedad Protectiva Cooperativa and owner of Juanita's Cafe in Ojo Caliente, having also had a cafe in the Espanola Valley. Mrs. Rice is survived by her husband, James L. Rice; one son, Joe Rivera and wife, Cara from Dublin, CA; two daughters, Mary R. Lucero from Albuquerque and Bette Guillen and husband, Henry from Espanola; two step-daughters, Marilyn Zimmerman and husband, Fred from Tuscon, AZ and Jerri Ernst and husband, Tom also from Tuscon; one brother, Gorgonio Griego and wife, Armeda from Price, Utah; one sister, Cruzita Trujillo from Denver, CO; 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews too numerous to name. A Rosary will be recited Sunday night at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Lujan's Funeral Home. Shigematsu -- George"Kotch" Shigematsu (Matsu) passed away Thursday, February 4, 1999 at the age of 76 surrounded by his family. He had fought a courageous battle against cancer for over a year. Kotch was born May 25, 1922 in Winslow, Arizona. He moved with his family from Arizona to New Mexico, first living in Clovis, NM, then to Belen, eventually settling in Jarales, where the Shigematsu family still farms. Kotch was a graduate of Belen High School, Class of 1941. He was a member of the National Honor Society, and excelled in athletics. Kotch enlisted in the Army in 1942 and was a member of the renown 442nd regimental combat team, which was one of the most decorated units of WWII. Serving in Italy, he was wounded in 1944 and honorably discharged. He was a decorated Veteran, having earned the Purple Heart. Kotch went on to be a prominent businessman in Belen, owning and operating first,"Teen Town", a hangout for young people."Teen Town" eventually turned into"Kotch's Cafe" which he ran for over 20 years. After closing"Kotch's Cafe" in 1972, he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service in Belen, retiring in 1989. One of Kotch's favorite things to do was fly radio-controlled model airplanes. He was both an enthusiast and a teacher, having taught many others to fly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Chiyo Shigematsu; one brother, Junzo Shigematsu; and one son, Michael Kendall. Kotch is survived by his wife of 35 years, Helen of the family home in Belen; two sons, George and Jim, both of Albuquerque; and one daughter, Sandra King and husband, Marti of Lemoore, CA. Also surviving are four granddaughters, Kerri King, Jade Matsu, Jordan and Jazmin Matsu; three grandsons, Eddie Matsu, Jason Matsu and Alan King. Kotch is also survived by his three brothers, James and Charles of the family farm in Jarales and Noburo and wife, Toni of Marblehead, MA; and one sister, Violet Culbreth and husband, Wilton of the family farm in Jarales; as well as numerous loving nieces and nephews. He was loved by many and admired by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed. Funeral services will take place on Monday, 10:00 a.m., at the First Baptist Church of Belen, with Reverend Milford Misener officiating. Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joe Padilla, Marti King, George Matsu, Louie Huning, Jimmy Matsu, Jason Matsu, Bill Caldwell and Eddie Matsu. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Ralph Brower, Charles Hampton, Graham Hennington, Marvin Trembly and all of his flying buddies. Slocum -- S. Eleanor Slocum, 89, a resident of Albuquerque died, Thursday, February 4, 1999. She is survived by her daughters, Carol Guthrie and husband, Charles of New Mexico and Helen Howard; son, Edward Slocum and wife, Madelyn of New Jersey; sister, Jayne Oliver and husband, Tom of Pennsylvania; daughter-in-law, Eleanor Slocum of Florida and Anita Slocum of New Jersey; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by husband, Chester Slocum in 1977; sons, James Slocum and Kenneth Slocum both in 1996; and grandson, David Guthrie in 1987. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Monmouth Memorial Park in Neptune, NJ.

Tilton -- Maxine Carmichael Tilton, 78, a resident of Albuquerque since 1946, died Wednesday, February 3, 1999. She is survived by her husband, Dean Tilton of Albuquerque; sons, Charles Carmichael and wife, Ellen of Artesia, David Carmichael and wife, Sandi and Daniel Carmichael and wife, Deb, all of Albuquerque; daughters, Marian Clark and husband, Edwin and Donna Steen and husband, Tom, all of Albuquerque; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters, Imogene Smith of Phoenix, AZ, Marjorie Blatt of Alliance, OH, Myrna Taubaugh of Jerusalem, OH, Trilba Snyder of Ft. Myers, FL, Norma Hale of Show Low, AZ, and Francis Krabill of Alliance, OH; and brother, Otis Lough of Phoenix, AZ. Mrs. Tilton was a member of Hoffmantown Church. Tomko -- Carl John Tomko, 72, passed away Thursday, January 28, 1999 at the VA Hospital in Albuquerque, following a battle with cancer. Carl and his wife, Dolores have been residents of Albuquerque for the past seven years, coming from Garrettsville, Ohio. He retired after 30 years as a plumber with Hiram College in Hiram, Ohio. A veteran of WWII, he served in the Pacific with the US Navy aboard the USS Birmingham. Survivors include his beloved wife, Dolores Tomko; his daughters, Gale Bishop and husband, Tom of Oregon, OH and Linda Futato and husband, Steve of Fairfax, VA; his sister, Margaret Seman and husband, Jack of Cleveland, OH; his brother-in-law, James Zingale of Parma, OH; and his special friend, George Gargoura of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Tomko on July 28, 1995. Private services and interment, with military honors, have taken place at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Presbyterian Hospice, 8330 Constitution NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110 or to a charity of choice. Mrs. Tomko wishes to express her thanks and gratitude to the many friends and neighbors who have been so kind and supportive, and a special thanks to Dr. Cathcart and Fr. Julian at the VA Hospital. Warner -- Tom G. Warner, 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1945, died Monday, February 1, 1999. He is survived by his brother, Fred B. Warner, Sr. of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his wife, November 16, 1993. Mr. Warner was born November 18, 1911 in Leslie, AR. He lived his early life and adulthood in Little Rock, AR, where he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps Glider Program in 1942. Mr. Warner had a distinguished service record as a glider pilot, with participation in the Belgium Invasion during WWII and later on, landing troops and war equipment ninety miles behind enemy lines in Wessel, Germany. Mr. Warner was awarded the Silver Air Medal, with one oak leaf cluster; the Distinguished Unit Citation Badge; four Bronze Service Stars; and one Bronze Service Arrowhead. He married Alice Louise Williams in June 1943, while he was stationed at Kirtland Field in Albuquerque. Mr. Warner was an official of the New Mexico Interstate Bank at the time of his retirement in June 1974. Graveside services will be held Saturday, 2:00 p.m., at Fairview Memorial Park, 700 Yale SE.
