Weaver -- Walter Lee"Walt" Weaver, Jr., 53, passed away on February 3, 1999. Walt was born on April 27, 1945 in Columbus, Ohio. He lived in Europe and Asia as a child. Prior to middle school he and his parents settled in San Antonio, Texas. He was a member of the Texas A&M University Class of"68 and remained a loyal Aggie throughout his life. Upon graduation from Texas A&M he enlisted in the United States Army and served as a military intelligence officer for three years. His love of the mountains and the American West brought him to Albuquerque in 1973 as one of the first practicing landscape architects in the state. During his career as a landscape architect he designed hundreds of projects throughout New Mexico and the rest of the country. His passionate love for landscape architecture was instrumental in settling and maintaining the high standards of landscape design that this state has come to expect. His creative abilities as a landscape architect coupled with his fearless entrepreneurial spirit allowed him to start several successful corporations including: Walter Weaver Inc., Albuquerque Grounds Maintenance, and most recently The Landscape Group. He was also an avid outdoorsman who always looked forward to his annual elk and deer hunts with great anticipation. He loved to spend time outdoors with his family and friends. His knowledge of history, especially the history of New Mexico was surpassed by few and admired by anyone who was fortunate enough to have been able to hear him discuss it. His courageous three-year battle with cancer has been an inspiration to all of those around him. His charm, sense of humor, and gorgeous blue eyes will be greatly missed, but never forgotten, by his family and many friends. He was the greatest husband and father anyone could ask for. Walt is survived by his wife of 28 years, Sandra Weaver; his daughter, Amy Celeste Weaver, graduate of Texas A&M and current MBA candidate at Notre Dame University; his son, Derrick Ryan Weaver, student at Texas Tech University School of Law; his son, Dustin Kyle Weaver, a freshman at Texas A&M University; his father, Walter Lee Weaver of Clearwater, FL; and his dog, Max.
