RINI -- S. Jack Rini, 89, died peacefully after a short illness in the early morning of Sunday, January 9, 2005, at his residence at Montebello Senior Living Community, where he was twice president of the Resident's Association. He lived for many years in Los Chavez, NM, moving to the state from Memphis, TN, in 1977. S. Jack was born the son of Anna Lichtenberg Rini and Martin Rini on July 29, 1915. He was raised in Cleveland, OH. In 1936, he married Marjorie Herman who preceded him in death in 1980. He graduated, with his lifelong friend the late Edward Dyble of Albuquerque, from John Marshall High School and Case School of Applied Sciences (now Case Western Reserve) in Cleveland with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. He did extensive graduate work at the University of Chicago in chemical engineering of vegetable fats and oils. His career took him from Amazo in Hammond, IN, to Lever Brothers in Whiting, IN, and Boston, to Kraft Foods in Chicago, and then to Memphis where he was Vice President of Research and Production at Kraft's Humko subsidiary there. He was an emeritus lifetime member of the American Chemical Society which he joined in 1943. He was elected to the American Institute of Chemical Engineers in 1949, and was an emeritus member of the Institute of Food Technologists. He was Director of the League for International Food Education from 1970 to 1982. His other interests included the Boy Scouts of America and bird watching. He was also the major investor in New Mexico's Century magazine in the early 1980s. His patents and inventions in food technology include "the Rini process" which makes margarine spreadable, and a chemically engineered solution to the problem of the "French ring," the circle of congealed material around the opening of French dressing bottles. He was an avid traveler, exploring the back country of America with his family, and traveling around the world and visiting as much of the planet as he could. He was a scholar and student of history and politics and the southwest. Mostly, he enjoyed his friends and his family. He was a profoundly loyal and generous parent, grandparent, and friend. His family misses him more than they can express. He is survived by children, Jacqueline Rini Fuqua, James P. Rini, and Rini Price and her husband, V.B. Price, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Christopher H. Fuqua of Albuquerque and Marshall R. Fuqua and wife, Jeri of Madrid, Iowa; by step-sons, Jody Price and Keir Price of New Jersey; and by one niece and many nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Talking Talons, Tijeras, NM, 281-1133, or to the League for International Food Education. The family is grateful for the aid of Lovelace Hospice.

SANTILLANES -- Carlos (Charlie) Santillanes, born August 7, 1927, went to God's Glory to be with his wife, Euphalia, on January 13, 2005. His devotion and faith to our Lord has helped to comfort those he has left behind: his children, Frances, Louis Sandoval, Herman, Frances Santillanes, Lorraine, Sam Rivera, Sam, Treva Santillanes, and Theresa Apodaca; his grandchildren, whom he thought the world of: Louis-Patrick, Sonya, and Chastity Sandoval, Sharon and Chris Chavez, and Raul Santillanes, Jesse, Andrea Rivera, Tanya, Louis Casias, Matthew, Heather Santillanes, Juan, Krystal Santillanes, Sammy, Eloisa Santillanes, and Michael Apodaca; his great-grandchildren who he loved and prayed for daily: Josiah, Stephen, Cheyenne, and Xavier Sandoval, Janelle, Dyan, Christopher, Justine Chavez, Audrey, Andriana Gonzales, Jesse Jr., Elena, Elizabeth Rivera, Kimberly Gordon, Rose La Master, Danielle, Emily Santillanes, Sam, and David Santillanes. He has also left behind, in prayers his brother and wife, Ruben and Jenny Santillanes; his sisters, Angie and husband, Dennis Ott, and Mary Jane Gutierrez; and many loving friends, neighbors, and extended family. Services for Carlos will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, in Bernalillo, with a Rosary on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Sorrows Cemetery. TURRIETTA -- Thomas G. Turrietta Sr., age 85, a lifelong resident of Pajarito, passed away at home, Friday, January 13, 2005, surrounded by his loving family. He served in the US Navy during WWII, and retired from the Railroad after 39 years. Thomas was the founding member of Ascension Catholic Church, and a twenty year member of the Pajarito Cemetery Committee. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rose Janet and grandson, Eric. Thomas is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rosalie Turrietta; daughters, Sister Charlotte Anne Turrietta ODN., Becky Reyes and husband, Belizario, Carmen Saavedra, Toni Turrietta and Mark Chavez; sons, Thomas Turrietta Jr. and wife, Lupe, Joseph Turrietta and wife, Lulu, Richard Turrietta and wife, Bonnie, 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Raught; special friend, Terri Hernandez of Mexico City and Theo Byrns of Las Vegas, NM; numerous other family members and friends who loved and will miss him. Services will be held at Ascension Catholic Church, 2150 Raymac Rd. SW, with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 17, 2005. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 18, 2005, with burial following at Pajarito Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his children, Sister Charlotte Anne Turrietta ODN., Tom Turrietta Jr., Joe Turrietta, Becky Reyes, Carmen Saavedra, Rick Turrietta, and Toni Turrietta. SALAS -- Catalina "Lena" Salas, a resident of Bernardo, NM peacefully joined our Lord and Savior surrounded by her loving family on Friday, January 14, 2005. She was born in Abeytas, NM to the late Andres and Ursula Abeyta on January 20, 1921. She was a member of the San Antonio Catholic Church in Abeytas, NM and a member of the Legion of Mary. She was a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the San Antonio Catholic Choir. Lena and her late husband, Albino, served as padrinos for the church serving many times throughout their married life. They were very active in all church activities and were always there as a team whenever they were needed. As one of America's greatest generation, Lena proudly served her country during WWII as a "Rosie The Riveter" reporting for duty with the U.S. Navy in Mare Island, CA in 1944. She returned home to Abeytas where she then married the love of her life, Albino Salas, in 1947. They went on to have 7 beautiful children, one of which died at birth. Her badge of honor was having 3 sets of twins which she took great pride in. She loved to garden and was an excellent seamstress and cook. She took great pride in her homemaking. Her family was her true pride and joy. Lena was preceded in death by her husband, Albino Salas, Jr.; four brothers, Monico, Tony, Juan, and Monico Abeyta; one sister, Bersabe Abeyta. She is survived by her six loving children, Terry and her husband, Eddie Barela of Bosque Farms, NM, Consie and her husband, Wilmer Gabaldon of Los Chavez, NM, Sandra and her husband, Elauterio Sanchez of Adelino, NM, Geraldann and her husband, Robert Caldwell of Las Cruces, NM, Geraldine and her husband, Rick Muniz of Stockton, CA, and Andrew and his wife, Martha of Bernardo; 20 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Petrita and her husband, Audilio Barela; two brothers, Greg Abeyta and his wife, Sylvia and Salo Abeyta and his wife, Doris; one sister-in-law, Louisa Abeyta. All services will take place at San Antonio Catholic Church in Abeytas, NM with a public viewing on Sunday, January 16, 2005 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 2:00 p.m. with Ernesto Chavez and Helen Griego reciting the Rosary. A reception will follow at the home of Andrew and Martha Salas in Bernardo. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 17, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Dennis Dolter officiating. Interment will follow at the Abeytas Catholic Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Abeytas Fire Station. DELGADO -- Josie M. Delgado, age 76, passed away January 11, 2005 in Santa Rosa following an illness. Josie was born March 11, 1928 in Colonias, NM to the home of Benito and Maria Baca Maestas. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Orlando Delgado; son, Joseph Delgado; grandson, Francisco Delgado; sister, Lala M. Chavez; brother, Horacio Maestas. Survivors include her children: Daniel Delgado and wife, Cecilia of Cuba, NM, Mark Delgado of Albuquerque, Orlando Delgado and wife, Maida of Albuquerque, Richard Delgado and wife, Julie of Santa Rosa, David Delgado of Santa Rosa, Steven Delgado and wife, Geraldine of Albuquerque, Martin Delgado and wife, Paula of Bowie, Maryland, Dominic Delgado and wife, Rebecca of Albuquerque, her daughter, Linda Padilla and husband, Rayne of Albuquerque, daughter in law, Maria Chavez Delgado of Santa Rosa. Also surviving are 25 grandchildren;16 great-grandchildren; brothers: Benny Maestas and wife, Dolores, Meliton Maestas and wife, Rosie; and her sister, Gloria Rivera, all of Santa Fe. ALFARO -- Eddie Alfaro, A resident of Albuquerque, passed away on January 12, 2005 peacefully at home in the arms of his loving family by his side. He is preceded in death by his cousin-brother, Claude Alfaro. He is survived by his wife, Dolores; his three sons, Randy and wife Valerie, Robert and wife Bernice, Lawrence and wife Linda; his three daughters, Kathy and husband Danny, Gloria Alfaro, and Kristina Alfaro. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Kayla, Bobby, Gracie Lou, Carmella, Daniel, Charmaine, Edmund, and Randy Jr., in which he helped raise and were a big part of his everyday life; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Vivian Flores; four special cousins, Ofemanio and Jenny Martinez, John Alfaro, and Joe Alfaro. Eddie, will forever be the most wonderful husband, father, and grandfather they could have ever asked for, and will be greatly missed by his family, and friends who were a part of his life. CHAVEZ -- Mrs. Rose Mary R. Chavez, 81, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on January 11, 2005 peacefully at home in the arms of her loving family. Mrs. Chavez is the beloved wife to Mr. Benny P. Chavez, married for 64 years. Mrs. Chavez is also survived by her loving children, Petra Castro, Rosanne Haber and husband, John, Phillip Chavez and wife, Dolores, Frank Chavez and wife, Cris. Mrs. Chavez is also survived by nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; one sister, Isabel Silva; two sisters in law, Lee Richardson and Pola Richardson; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Chavez was a member of the Catholic Church. GARCIA -- Telesfor Garcia, age 84, beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, was called home by our Heavenly Father, Monday, January 10, 2005. Telesfor was born in Los Ranchos de Albuquerque to the late Gabriel and Elvira Garcia; and was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Alameda. Telesfor was a proud Veteran of the United States Army, who served our country during World War II; and a member of the American Legion Post #13. He was a retired Carpenter; and was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpentry and Joiners of America Local # 1319 for 55 years. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael A. Garcia; brothers, Ramon and Louis Garcia. Telesfor is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Rita Garcia of the family home; his son, Alex T. Garcia and wife, Bonnie; his precious grandchildren, Joseph G. and Alexander M. Garcia; five brothers, Alfredo Garcia and wife, Eloisa, Luciano Garcia and wife, Annabell, Abel Garcia and wife, Lucille, Herman Garcia, and Garbriel Garcia Jr. and wife, Betty; three sisters, Estella Chavez and husband, Prosprio, Julia Lechuga, and Rosalina Garcia; numerous nieces, nephews, and other beloved family members and friends. Telesfor will be greatly missed by his loving family. Visitations will be Thursday from 3:30 p.m. till the time of Rosary at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Alameda; followed by a Rosary, which will be recited at 4:30 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 9:00 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church.
