ALLEN -- Luther E. "Ed" Allen, 84, passed away on Wednesday, January 12, 2005. He is survived by his wife, Joan Allen of the home; son, Luther E. Allen, Jr. of Bellingham, WA; daughter, Joy Burns and husband, Dale, of Grants, NM; step-daughters, Colleen Hanna and husband, Bill, of Ft. Collins, CO and Suky Overdier and husband, Tim, of Dulce, NM; step-son, Steve Browne and wife, Jenney of Lebanon, IN; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Chapman and husband, Laverne of Peralta, NM; and brother, Fred Allen, Jr. of Albuquerque. Ed was preceded in death by his son, Preston George Allen and step-son, Buddy Browne. He retired from Civil Service at KAFB. He served our country in WWII. He was captured in the Philippines and was in a POW camp for 3 1/2 years in Japan. Ed was an avid hunter and fisherman, serving many years as a volunteer warden for NM Game and Fish. BELL -- Hazel "Prin" Bell, age 81 and a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died on Tuesday, January 11, 2005 following an illness. Mrs. Bell is survived by two daughters, Susan Clausen and her husband, Phil of Texas, Dianne Gerberich and her husband, Gary of California; two sons, Jay Bell and his wife, Beverly of Albuquerque, and Richard Bell and his wife, Terry of Rio Rancho; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Cathedral. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 14, 2005 at 9:00 a.m. in the Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary with the Very Rev. BLACKBURN -- John William Blackburn passed away January 8, 2005 in Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock. He had lived in Benton, AR since November, 2003. Mr. Blackburn was born to William Leslie and Christina Ann Mactavish Blackburn on May 21, 1924, in Magdalena, NM. He is survived by his wife, Betty (B.J.) Compton Blackburn; three sons, John William Blackburn II and wife, Vickie of Gallup, Charles Cameron Blackburn of Belen, and Phillip Alan Blackburn and his wife, Jean Marie of Los Lunas; three step-children, Janie and husband, Jim Hughes of Benton, AR, John Conditt and wife, Kathy of Grapevine, TX, and Vickie Conditt of Gallup; three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren; his sisters, Helen and husband, Wayne Baker of El Paso, TX and Betty Gallup and husband, Doug Smith of The Village, FL; three cousins, Cameron Mactavish and wife, Margret of Taos, Andrew Mactavish and wife, Nancy of Palos Verdes Estates, CA, and Myra Mactavish Johnson of Alamogordo. Mr. Blackburn was active in the Santa Fe Presbytery and the Synod of the Southwest, an elder in the Presbyterian Church and organist for twelve years. He was a businessman in Albuquerque for many years and was a 33rd degree Mason. The family will gather in the home of Cameron and Margret Mactavish, 305 S. Elm St., Magdalena, to visit with friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 15, 2005, followed by lunch at 11:30. CASAUS -- Ruby Casaus, our beautiful Mom, grandma-ma, was welcomed into the arms of our Lord on January 11, 2005 at the age of 94; also waiting to welcome her into heaven were her husband, Trinidad Casaus; and grandson, Rudy Andy Montoya. Our Lord blessed Ruby with 94 years here, and He blessed all of us with her unfailing love for each of us. Ruby is survived by her son, Rudy Montoya and wife, Maria; her sister, Sadie Ochoa; grandchildren, Irene Montoya, Sandra Benavidez and husband, David, Paul Montoya and wife, Dorothy; great-grandchildren, Jason, TR, Roxann, Lorena, Sara, AJ, and Alexandria; great-great-grandchildren, Jason Jr., Isabell, Jacob, and Brenda. CORDOVA -- Margarita "Maggie" Moreno Cordova, 49, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away on Thursday, January 13, 2005 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Maggie was born April 3, 1955, the daughter of Enrique and Socorro Vasquez Moreno in El Paso, Texas. After completing high school in El Paso, she earned her B.S. degree from Texas Tech University and her M.A. from the University of New Mexico. Maggie was a member of the original management team chosen when Rio Rancho Public Schools became an independent district in 1994, and served the district for more than 10 years as Executive Director of Special Services. Before that, she was assistant principal at Rio Rancho's Puesta del Sol Elementary School, and a special education teacher at Puesta del Sol, and at Albuquerque's Washington Middle School. Among her many professional affiliations, Maggie was a past president of the Council of Administrators of Special Education, represented New Mexico on the Council for Exceptional Children, and was a member of the Rio Rancho Disabled Citizens Advisory Panel. As a member of the National Standards and Assessment Committee, she helped to establish national standards for special education instruction. She was honored as 2004's New Mexico Special Educator of the year by the New Mexico Council of Administrators of Special Education, and in 2003, she was one of 12 New Mexico recipients of the YWCA's "Woman on the Move" award. Maggie worked tirelessly to build support for the philosophy that children with disabilities function best in their neighborhood schools and whenever possible, in regular education classrooms. Her belief in the promise and ability of all children was rooted in personal experience. Maggie was born blind and was a Braille reader until the age of 17. During her adult life she fought two battles with cancer. She met these challenges with an indomitable spirit and infectious optimism. She never quit learning and never quit teaching. She loved people and loved life, and shared with everyone around her the joy and value of living life to the fullest. Maggie was preceded in death by her mother, Socorro Moreno. She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Joseph Cordova of the family home: two children, Joseph Nathaniel Cordova and Jennifer Kay Cordova, both of Rio Rancho; father, Enrique Moreno of El Paso, TX; brothers, Henry Moreno, Jr. and wife, Chris of Miami, FL, and Jaime Moreno of El Paso, TX; four sisters, Lourdes Frese and husband Robert of Tucson, AZ, Estee Ruiz and husband, Jaime of El Paso, TX, Rosie Ross and husband, Howard of El Paso, TX, and Rebecca Romero and husband, Oscar of El Paso, TX; parents in law, Joe and Veva Cordova of El Paso, TX; brother in laws, David Cordova of El Paso, TX, and Steven Cordova of San Francisco, CA; sister in laws, Terry Perez of El Paso, TX, and Anna Cordova of Plano, TX; nieces and nephews, Andrea, Gabriel, Rachelle, Jake, Jaime, Carlos, Melissa, Jacob, Zach, Mia, Erica, Art, Matt, Joshua, Anthony, Andrew, Shonyi, and Grace. HANNA -- Peggy Marie Pollock Olson Hanna died peacefully January 10, 2005 with her daughter, Suzanne Hanna, at her side in their Moreno Valley, CA home. She was born July 1, 1919, in Beaver, UT, the daughter of John Hyrum and Lydia Debra Dunning Pollock. Always grateful for things great and small, she believed that life and its blessings were gifts from a loving Father in Heaven. During her childhood in Salt Lake City and all her life, she imparted her love of music to adults and children alike. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren still sing the songs she taught them. Her adult life was spent in Albuquerque, NM and Orem, UT. She blessed the lives of countless people as a mother, as a member of the LDS Church, President of the Albuquerque Association for Retarded Children, member of the PEO educational sisterhood, through her work at Bandelier Food Market, Hanna's Super Market, Corrales Market, and Valley High School, and through her constant goodwill as a neighbor and friend. After moving to Utah in 1975, she continued her years of service in the Alpine School District, the Utah Association for Retarded Citizens, the San Diego LDS Mission and with "Kids on the Move," a pre-school early intervention program in Orem. In the days preceding her death, she knew her family was near and she listened to expressions of love from her grandchildren. She wore a Chinese ring inscribed "I Love," that was acquired while traveling the world during retirement with her sister, Marjorie Komadina. Throughout her life, her heart went out to the people she met. Whether in China, Sarajevo, Africa, India, or her own neighborhood, she saw the divine goodness in others and wished only good for them. Among loved ones who have gone before, she is welcomed by her youngest son, Phillip Hanna, who died in 1978. She leaves behind her daughter, Suzanne; her sons, Terry (Karen) Olson and David (Charlotte) Hanna; and 11 grandchildren and their spouses, Tara Olson, Kathie (James) Marshall, Cammie (Erich) Seal, Stan (Amy) Olson, Kelly Olson, and Chris Olson; Ben Hanna, Melanie Hanna, Angela Hanna, Elizabeth Hanna, and Scott Hanna; six great-grandchildren, Katherine, Jordan, Kammie, and Zachary Marshall, and Alexander and Niklas Olson; her sister, Marjorie Komadina of Albuquerque, NM; her nephew, State Senator (NM) Steven A. Komadina, M.D., and his family of Corrales, NM. She is also survived by her second husband, Mervil Hanna and his family in Albuquerque; and family of her first husband, deceased Lt. Stanley F. Olson of Mink Creek and Preston, ID. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Albuquerque Association for Retarded Citizens and Kids on the Move. HOWARD -- Marian B. Howard, 86, a resident of Albuquerque, formally of Pottstown, PA, died Tuesday, January 11, 2004. A native of Pottstown, she was a daughter of the late Herbert L. and Vivian (Wallerton) Brown. Mrs. Howard worked for Pottstown MFG before moving to Albuquerque in 1971. She also worked as a secretary for Luther Construction Company, and in the real estate business. Mrs. Howard was a member of "the Sweet Adeline Chorus" in Pottstown and Albuquerque, where she was very active. She was a great tennis player, and she played in the tournament for Senior Citizens in Florida in 1999. Mrs. Howard is survived by her husband, Clyde Howard; brother, Richard S. Brown of Oley, PA. She was preceded in death by Albert Brown, Mildred Fix, Elma Sell, Hulda Dilliplane, Virginia Glenney, Hazel Spatz, Doris Sovizal, Joyce Rudick, and Donald Brown. LAUREL -- Karen Laurel, 62, was at home, surrounded by her family, when she departed on January 11, 2005. She was born in Connecticut and lived in Vermont before moving to Albuquerque thirteen years ago. She was a teacher of English, a writer, traveler, artist, and lover of life. She leaves her husband, Martin Haagmans of Albuquerque; her daughters, Wendy Bernardin of Florida, Carole Ferrigno of Albuquerque, and Jennifer Ferrigno and granddaughter, Caidin of Vermont; as well as two sisters, Kathy Thomas of Tennessee, Pamela Hills and a brother, John Cunningham, both of Connecticut; and her Spirit Sisters of Albuquerque. LINN -- Patty Ann Linn, a resident of Belen, NM, passed away on Wednesday, January 12, 2005. Patty was born in Linden, NJ, and attended Cedar Ridge high school in Old Bridge, NJ. She loved old time rock and roll music. Patty was a real people person, who loved all her family and friends, and she would willingly help anyone in need. Patty is preceded in death by her husband, John Linn and her mother, JoAnn Kardash. She is survived by her three daughters, Tara, Rebecca, and Tricia all of Belen, NM; her father, Harry Kardash, Jr.; brother, Harry Kardash, III; three grandchildren; one niece; and many very close friends. NEUMANN -- Arthur Ernest Neumann, 63, a resident of Rio Rancho since June of 2000, and former resident of Malverne, Long Island, New York, died on January 11, 2004. Arthur is survived by his wife, Adrianne Antoinette Neumann and his daughter, Marguerite Mignone, both of Rio Rancho. He loved spending time working in his beautiful garden and fishing on his boat. Mr. Neumann was an avid armoire and chef. He was a devoted husband and father. Arthur shall be greatly mourned by all who knew and loved him. RHINEHART -- Ron Rhinehart, 55, of Albuquerque, NM passed away January 8, 2005 in Phoenix, AZ. He was born on March 24, 1949 in Albuquerque. Ron was preceded in death by his mother, Glenna Rhinehart in 1997. Survivors include his fiancee, Denise Watson; father, William A. TOMLINSON -- Erik Tomlinson, 41, a life-long resident of Albuquerque, passed away suddenly Sunday, January 9, 2005. He is survived by his wife of 18 years and best friend, Kathleen Tomlinson; daughter, Amanda; father, Robert Tomlinson; brother, Bob Tomlinson and wife, Laurie; niece, Jill and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carol S. Tomlinson, in 1999. Erik was a 1981 graduate of Del Norte High School where he played in the band and was very active in the Boy Scouts of America. He continued his education at UNM. Erik was employed over the past 20 years in the computer industry. He will be remembered as a gifted specialist in his field. Erik embraced life to the fullest and will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all others whose lives he touched. TURNER -- Mary Katherine Turner was born January 7, 1927 in New York and died on her birthday, January 7, 2005. She grew up in Scarsdale, NY, and graduated from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY, where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. In 1953, she moved with her family to Bryn Mawr, PA. She worked first as head nurse in Germantown Hospital, later becoming the Director of the Personnel Department of the Reuben H. Donnelley Corporation in Philadelphia where she worked over 30 years. Her parents were Mr. Norman and Mrs. Helen Turner, long-time members of Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church. In 2004, she relocated to Albuquerque and resided at La Vida Llena. She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Joan Roberts; her brother-in-law, Dr. John Roberts; her nieces, Mrs. Susan Supple and her husband, Dr. Jeff Supple, Rev. Linda Roberts-Baca and her husband, Mr. Michael J. Baca, Mrs. Amy Roberts-Paeth and her husband, Dr. Scott Paeth; and her nephews, Dr. Thomas Roberts and his wife, Mrs. Lisa Wardein Roberts, Mr. Ben Roberts and his wife, Mrs. Molly Higgs Roberts; and 12 great-nieces and -nephews. A Memorial Service will be held in the chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 14, 2005, with the Rev. Linda Roberts-Baca officiating. WALLACE -- Cassandra Lee Wallace, born September 27, 1952 in Bethesda, MD, made her transition on January 9, 2005, as a result of liver failure. Cassandra was the daughter of Donald and Janet Wallace. Her father was a military man, so she lived in numerous places including Japan and Cyprus. She received an MBA in Theology and was a spiritual practitioner with the First Church of Religious Science. Cassandra had two big passions in her life. The first was giving birth to 14 children. In fact, she gave up a promising career to be the Mother she desired to be. Her 2nd passion was the development of The Children's Nurturing Coalition which was intended to teach nannies how to holistically and lovingly take care of their children. The slogan was "For Love of the Child." She also worked as a nurse at the Lovelace Medical Sleep Center. As a result of Cassandra's love for youth, she helped numerous teenagers giving them guidance and a sense of direction. The last few years of her life she spent as a loving and supportive wife to her husband, Dean and the mother to her last two children, twins Sky and Free. Cassandra was a woman of great joy, compassion and giving love. She will be remembered for the smile she always had and the joy she expressed about life. Even while dealing with her illness the past two years she always gave of her warmth and love to others. Everyone that was touched by Cassandra's spirit will have a void in their life by her passing. She was preceded in passing by her father and two daughters. Survivors include: husband Dean; 12 children; 10 grandchildren; mother, Janet, two brothers, Grant, Hollie; sister, Donna; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. ZAMORA -- Teresa McIntyre Zamora, 91, a resident of Albuquerque, died on Wednesday, January 12, 2005. She is survived by daughters, Louanne Brown and husband, David, Peggy Lewis and husband, Dwight, all of Albuquerque, Soila Smith of Amarillo, TX, and Susan Lynch of California; sons, Phil Zamora and wife, Rosalie of Fallon, NV, Rick Zamora of Albuquerque, and Art Lopez and wife, Della of Santa Fe, NM; brothers, Craig McIntyre of Phoeniz, AZ, and David McIntyre of Albuquerque; ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur A. Zamora; her parents, Robert and Soila McIntyre; and her son, Bobby Zamora. She was born in San Antonio, NM on July 7, 1913, the oldest of 10 children. She graduated from St. Mary's High School; she was a loving grandmother and always interested in her children and grandchildren's activities. Teresa has always been active with her Catholic faith both in Albuquerque at St. Bernadette's and at Spirit of Christ in Denver. In addition to being a homemaker and wonderful mother to her eight children, she managed a dress shop for over 30 years. Rosary will be recited on Friday, January 14, 2005 at 5:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. with Deacon Joe Santana officiating. Mass will be celebrated, Saturday, January 15, 2005 at 9:00 a.m. The Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School NE, with Father William McCarren and Deacon Joe Santana officiating.
