Abraham -- Mrs. Lawrence T. Abraham, devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2002. She died peacefully at home surrounded by family after being cared for by her devoted husband. The former Wadette Goze, a native New Mexican, born October 2, 1916 in Magdelena, NM to a prominent ranching family George and Adele Goze. She was preceeded in death by her parents and sister Margaret. Mrs. Abraham graduated from El Paso Business College and earned her Teaching Certificate from UNM in 1938. She taught school in Magdalena in the late 1930's. On a trip to the 1939 New York World's Fair she met her future husband, Lawrence T. Abraham, married October 6, 1940 and began a love affair lasting 63 years. The Abrahams lived in Magdalena, Espanola and resided in Los Alamos from 1942 to 1946. While in Los Alamos she was instrumental in starting the USO and served as its president. In 1946, the Abrahams with their daughters moved to Santa Fe and resided there until 1976. While in Santa Fe she attended First Presbyterian Church, served as President of the Dig N Hope Club Garden Club, served on the State Board of Garden Clubs, President of the Stitch N Bitch Club, Chairperson of the March of Dimes, Girl Scout Leader, served as President of the Santa Fe City Council, Secretary/Treasurer of Lawrence T. Abraham Construction, Mother Advisor of the Rainbow Girls and was named Santa Fe Woman of the Year in 1970. Mr. & Mrs. Abraham moved to Albuquerque in 1976. While in Albuquerque she continued her civic activities and focused on her love of writing poetry and painting. Wadette is a chartered member of the Tom L. Popejoy Society at UNM. She is survived by her devoted husband and companion, Lawrence; loving daughter Sandra Dhieux and her husband, Ernie, of Broomfield Co.; their children Joyel Dhieux of Boulder Co., and Matthew Dhieux of Broomfield Co.; Loving daughter Dr. Karen Abraham of Albuquerque, long time administrator of the University of New Mexico; and loving son, Larry, his wife, Beverly, and their son, Geoffrey, all of Albuquerque. Wadette's greatest success and focus of her life was her family. She was devoted to her husband Lawrence and doted on her children and grandchildren. The incredible loss of her presence is balanced only by the lasting example and legacy of her amazing energy, love of life and the commitment she brought to her life's role of wife, mother, friend and humanitarian. Her strength and love of life left a lasting impact on everyone she met. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Sunday, November 24th at 1 pm at the UNM Alumni Chapel, Rev. Ned Ross officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lawrence T. and Wadette Abraham Endowment Scholarship, UNM Foundation/Development Office 700 Lomas Blvd., NE Suite 203, Albuquerque NM 87131.

Steele -- Estella Steele, 76, a 22-year resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, November 13, 2002. She is survived by her son, Tony Trujillo and wife, Pamela of Albuquerque; daughters, Regina Trujillo and husband, Francisco of Albuquerque and Patsy Garcia of Raton; sons, Michael Trujillo of Raton and Edward Trujillo of Raton; daughter, Lucille Trujillo and husband, Tom of Trinidad, CO; and sons, Victor Trujillo, Jr and wife, Kelly of Pueblo, CO and Lawrence Trujillo of Raton; 22 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Arthur Salazar of Raton; and companion, David Chavez of Albuquerque. Mrs. Steele was a member of the Home League with the Salvation Army. Rosary will be recited Tuesday, November 19, 2002, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. Services will be held Wednesday, November 20, 2002, 9:30 a.m., at Salvation Army Chapel, 4301 Bryn Mawr NE with Major Becky Sparks officiating. Briggs -- Feliciana Briggs 24, died suddenly in San Diego, CA on Saturday, November 9, 2002. Feliciana graduated from Stanford University and was living in San Diego with her father at the time of her death. She is survived by her father, Charles L. Briggs and stepmother, Clara Mantini-Briggs; her mother, Helena Reilly; brother, Michael of Los Angeles, CA; sister, Jessie Fries-Kraemer; brother, Gabriel Fries-Briggs; their mother, Barbara Fries, all of Albuquerque; grandmother, Nancy Gay Robb Briggs; grandfather, William C. Briggs and friend, Barbara Wllis; uncle, Christopher Briggs and wife, Patricia; their children, Matthew and Rachel; great-uncle, Herbert R. Briggs; his children, Randy and JoAnn Briggs; great-uncle, John D. Robb, Jr. and wife, Peggy of Albuquerque; their children, John Celeste, Ellen, Brad, Jeffrey and David; and great-aunt, Priscilla McDonnell and husband, Sanford of St. Louis, MO; and their children, Robin and Randy. Feliciana Graduated from the Taft School in Watertown, CT, she studied a year in France, worked with Native American children in Venezuela and the Center for International Policy in Washington, DC, was a gifted writer of short stories, fluent in French and Spanish, taught yoga, and loved to sin, dance and run. She will be remembered for her beauty and grace, her ebullient laughter, her intelligence and the strength of spirit and intensity of love with which she graced those who knew her. Mass was celebrated Saturday, 1:00 p.m., at Aquinas Newman Center, 1815 Las Lomas Rd. NE, with Tom Steele, Celebrant. Cremation followed services. Perhaps you brought or served food. Perhaps you sent a lovely card or sat quietly in a chair. Perhaps you sent a floral piece, if so, we saw it there. Perhaps you spoke the kindest words as any friends could say, perhaps, you were not there at all, just thought or prayed for us that day. Sample -- Jack S. Sample, age 63, and a resident of Albuquerque for 32 years, died at home November 14, 2002. Mr. Sample practiced architecture in Albuquerque from 1970 to 2001. He was preceded in death by his father Frank J. Sample and brother Frank C. Sample and is survived by his wife Penny Sample; daughter Tiffany Sample Fiser and son-in-Iaw Robert Fiser; granddaughters Alexandra, Caroline, and Cassidy Fiser of Albuquerque; son Rick Sample and daughter-in-Iaw Sharon; granddaughter Megan of Phoenix, AZ.. Atler -- Daniel E. Atler, 48, a resident of Belen, passed away November 14, 2002. Woodley -- James (Jim) T. Woodley, 68, died at UNM Hospital on November 12, 2002 following a lengthy illness. James was born November 28, 1933 in Cheyenne, Wyoming to Howard G. and Mary Elizabeth Woodley. He served in the USAF from 1951 to 1955. He married Evangeline (Vangy) Vialpando of Parkview, NM, in January of 1955. Jim is survived by his wife, Vangy of the family home. He is also survived by two children, son, Kenny and wife, Jamie and their four daughters, Rojan of Concord, CA., Jennifer, Brandy and Cassie of Albuquerque; daughter, Kandy and husband, Tom Berry and their two children, Kage and Brooke of Albuquerque. Last but not least, great-granddaughter, Alexus Rayne Woodley. We will all miss his compassion, humor and companionship. We wish him a safe journey and we will see him again. Memorial Services will be held at Risen Savior Catholic Church, 7701 Wyoming NE.
