PADILLA -- Joey Padilla went home to be with the Lord on August 13, 2007 at the age of 19. He was born on August 8, 1988 to Sharon Garcia and Anthony Marquez. Joey is survived by his mother and father; his siblings, Freddie Padilla and fiancee, Vanessa Diaz, Ashley Marquez, and Jeremy Marquez; his grandparents, Orlando and Pat Garcia; uncles and aunts, Derek Garcia and wife, Justina, Orlando Garcia and wife, Rosalee, Vincent Garcia, Victor Marquez, Isaac Marquez, Johnny Marquez, and Dolores Marquez. He is also survived by his cousins, Brandon, Derek Jr., Nathan, Lailah, Vincent Jr., Serenity, Ramon, and Monique. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. FLORES -- Victor Flores, 81, passed away June 13, 2007 at the Guadalupe County General Hospital after a sudden illness. He was born June 13, 1926 in Puerto de Luna to the home of Cipriano Flores and the former Paublita Montoya. He was reared and attended grade school in Puerto de Luna and high school in Santa Rosa. He married Otilia Garcia on December 22, 1952 in Vaughn at Saint Mary's Catholic Church. He worked construction in Arizona and California for several years. After returning to New Mexico he worked for the New Mexico Game and Fish Department until his retirement in 1985. He then made his home in Puerto de Luna, next to where he grew up. He enjoyed ranching and farming in the Puerto de Luna valley. He was well known for his hard work ethic and had many friends throughout the county. He was very active in the Puerto de Luna Senior Citizens Center and could be seen there everyday for lunch and then playing games with his friends afterwards. He was a lifelong member of the Nuestra Senora de Refugio Catholic Church in Puerto de Luna and for the last several years enjoyed helping organize and coordinate the annual Puerto de Luna church fiestas which are held annually in July. Last year he was the Grand Marshall for the Fiesta Parade in Puerto de Luna. Many people will remember that he would like to ride on his horse in parades. He was very proud to participate in homecoming parades, church fiesta parades, Santa Rosa Days parades, as well as other parades which were held in the area. For many years queen candidates used to borrow his pink convertible car for riding in parades. That also brought much joy to him. He was a life-long Republican and was elected to several county offices. He was on the school board that opened the new Santa Rosa High School for the 1965-66 school year. He also served as Guadalupe County Commissioner. He had the reputation of being one of the few Republicans to be able to win elections in a very strong Democratic County. He became a Democrat in 2000 to be able to help his son-in-law, Jimmy Moncayo in the primary election for Magistrate Judge. He even convinced his brother, Benny, to become a Democrat. Moncayo won and has been Guadalupe County Magistrate Judge since then. He was preceded in death by his parents; and five sisters and three brothers: Beatriz Salazar, Amalia Dodge, Leontina Chavez, Adela Espinoza, Josefina Flores, Manuela Flores, Alberto Flores, Honorato Flores, and Benny Flores. Survivors include his wife, Otilia of the family home; a son, Arnold (Elaine) Flores of Rio Rancho and Eileen (Jimmy) Moncayo of the family compound in Puerto de Luna; his grandchildren, Victoria and Virginia Flores, Brandon and Julian Flores, Brittney, Felicia and James,Jr. Moncayo, Renee, Steven, Megan, and Lauren. He is also survived by one sister, Arcelia Abeyta of Santa Rosa; and one brother, Filomeno (Erlinda) Flores. He is also survived by a niece who was raised as a sister, Margie Abeyta of Santa Rosa. Also surviving are his brothers- and sisters-in-law; Ted Garcia and wife, Ramona, Andy Garcia and wife, Carmen, all of San Diego, CA, Larry Garcia and wife, June of Ruidoso, Lee Garcia and wife, Tina of Vaughn, Luperto Garcia of Alamogordo, Richard Garcia of Vaughn and Susie Baca, also of Vaughn; as well as numerous nieces, nephews; and a host of relatives and friends. Rosary Services will be held on Friday, June 15, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. from Nuestra Senora De Refugio Church in Puerto De Luna. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 16, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. also from Nuestra Senora De Refugio with Father Gerald Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Nuestra Senora De Refugio Cemetery also in Puerto De Luna. Serving as pallbearers will be Romie Maestas, Johnny Marquez, George Ortega, Ramon Gallegos, Lalo Padilla, Merle Guinn and Frank Madrid. MARQUEZ -- Remijio Dan Marquez, 87, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Tuesday, May 15, 2007. GUTIERREZ -- Robert A. Gutierrez, 39, passed away March 13, 2007. Robert, "Robert G" to friends, and "Gordy" to family; will be forever remembered as a loving son, brother, husband, father, and loyal friend. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor; having the ability to make anyone laugh. His commitment to his family was also seen in his work, being involved in boxing since 1997, working as an assistant trainer and being a dedicated corner man. Robert will be missed, and will leave a great void to the people who remember a man so full of life and song. He was preceded in death by his dad, Bobby A. Gutierrez. ANDLER-LATINO -- Josephine "Josie" Marie Andler Latino, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away March 9, 2007, following a brave and fearless battle with cancer. Although her spirit was strong, her body grew weak and she passed peacefully with her loving family by her side. She was born November 10, 1965 in Albuquerque and was a 1983 graduate of Rio Grande High School. Josie graduated from New Mexico Highlands University with a Bachelor's in Business Administration. She is survived by her loving husband, Keith J. Latino; mother, Mary Lou Marquez-Andler; her brothers, George Andler and his wife Annamarie; Gerome Andler and his wife Cathy; and sister Veronica Andler-Lopez and her husband Johnny. She was a wonderful and loving Auntie to nephews, Dominic, Jovan, Aaron, Isaiah, Matthew, Gavin, and Christian; and nieces, Dominique, Ashley and Brooke. She is also survived by many uncles, aunts, and cousins, as well as many dear friends. CASTANEDA -- Carlos Castaneda, age 76, a life-long resident of Jarales, New Mexico, joined his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 3, 2007, surrounded by his loving family. He was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Carlos loved music and he and his wife, Emma, sang with the Jarales choir. He would occasionally sing with the bands, Aguila, Suerte and Los Alegres at the Senior Citizen Centers. Carlos and Emma would go to the Senior Center faithfully on Tuesdays and Thursdays to attend the dances. He enjoyed sports and was an avid Aggies fan. His family was his life and his grandsons were a daily enjoyment to him, as he taught them about life and gave them guidance. Carlos enjoyed life and always had a smile on his face. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlos and Luz Castaneda; and brother-in-law, Robert Ortiz. Carlos is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Emma of the family home; daughters, Maria Moya and her husband, Leo of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Lydia Medina and her husband, David of Jarales; very special and loving grandsons, John Medina of Albuquerque and Carlos Medina of Jarales; a very special and loving granddaughter-in-law to be, Amanda Macias of Albuquerque; sisters, Amalia Marquez and her husband, Trinidad of Phoenix, AZ, Jennie Ortiz of Cuyamunge, NM, Tina Sandoval her husband, Manuel of Albuquerque and Rose Chavez and her husband, Pete of Los Lunas; brothers, Dennis Castaneda of Santa Fe, David Castaneda and his wife, Marie of La Puebla, NM, Robert Castaneda and his wife, Roberta of Nambe, NM and Gerald Castaneda and his wife, Annie of El Rancho, NM; his grand puppy, Albie; and many loving nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. FLORES -- Benny Flores, 82, passed away on October 24, 2006 at his home in Santa Rosa, NM after a valiant three year fight with cancer. His passing was peaceful and he was surrounded by his children. He was born April 9, 1924 in Puerto de Luna to the home of Cipriano Flores and the former Paublita Montoya. He was reared and attended grade school in Puerto de Luna. He graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1943 and enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He was a corporal assigned to the 460th Army Air Force Base Unit as an airplane and engine mechanic. He married Florentina "Tina" Padilla on June 27, 1945 at Nuestra Senora de Refugio Catholic Church in Puerto de Luna. He attended New Mexico Highlands University and received a BA in education in 1949. He taught school in Puerto de Luna from 1948-52, in Cuervo during 1952-53, and again in Puerto de Luna serving as head teacher from 1953-67. From 1967 until his retirement in 1981 he taught at Santa Rosa Middle School. He taught school for a total of thirty-three years and his career spanned five decades, from 1949 through 1981. Benny and his family made their home in Puerto de Luna until 1959 when they moved to Santa Rosa. He lived the rest of his life in the "Lake City." He enjoyed ranching and farming in the Puerto de Luna valley. He was well known for his hard work ethic, being a teacher during the school term and doing farm work and ranching during the summer months. He also liked building houses and built the three houses in which he and his family lived. He also built several other houses in Santa Rosa near the Park Lake area. He was a lifelong member of the Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church, a charter member of the Santa Rosa Knights of Columbus and a long time member of the National Education Association of New Mexico. He served on the Santa Rosa City Council for six years in the early 1970s and was elected to two terms as Guadalupe County Probate Judge. In 1996 he was chosen as "Outstanding Conservation Farmer" in the county by the Soil and Water Conservation District. He was honored by being listed in the Outstanding Secondary Educators of America in 1973. In 1942 he was a starting forward on the first Santa Rosa High School basketball team to play in a state tournament. The Lions won two games and lost two games in the tournament, which was held in Santa Fe. All the teams played in one classification at that time. He also enjoyed playing baseball and was a member of the well-known Puerto de Luna Young Farmers team in the years preceding World War II. He also served on the Puerto de Luna Spanish choir. His pastimes included farming (especially raising chile verde), playing cards with his friends, going to the Puerto de Luna Senior Citizens, and visiting with his children. His wife, Tina passed away in 1986. He married Maria Perez in Santa Rosa on August 3, 1991. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and four sisters and two brothers: Beatriz Salazar, Amalia Dodge, Leontina Chavez, Adela Espinoza, Josefina Flores, Alberto Flores, and Honorato Flores. Survivors include his wife, Maria of the family home; five daughters, Bernadette Flores, Consuelo Flores, Monica (Tom) Lopez, Renee (Patrick) Marquez, all of Albuquerque, and Susan (Cele) Rodriguez. He is also survived by his eight sons: Daniel (Lupita) Flores of Santa Rosa, Nicolas (Lissie) Flores of Plano, TX, Herman (Maxine) Flores of Plano, TX, Billy (Tracy) Flores of Albuquerque, David (Victoria) Flores of Los Lunas, Johnny (Rosemary) Flores of Albuquerque, Richard (Caroline) Flores of Santa Rosa, and Tommy Flores with the United States Navy in Hawaii. Surviving also are 30 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Arcelia Abeyta of Santa Rosa; and two brothers who live in Puerto de Luna, Victor (Otilia) Flores and Filomeno (Erlinda) Flores. He is also survived by a niece who was raised as a sister, Margie Abeyta of Santa Rosa. Other survivors include Maria's children, Javier (Carolina) Claro, Hector (Marissa) Claro, Carlos (Nadia) Claro of Chihuahua, Mexico, and Elizabeth (Antonio) DeReal of Santa Rosa. Rosary Services will be held at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church on Thursday, October 26, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. with his niece, Donna Abeyta Rivera, leading the prayers. Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Rosa of Lima Catholic Church on Friday, October 27, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Nick Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at Nuestra Senora de Refugio Cemetery in Puerto de Luna. His grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. It was his wish that all his former students, co-workers and close friends be honorary pallbearers.
