HANCOCK -- William Rickliffe "Rick" Hancock. Our beloved son and brother passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, December 6, 2003. He was born April 16, 1955 in Benton, Illinois. He is survived by his father, Simon Hancock and wife, Mary; brother, Robert Hancock and wife, Terry; sisters, Kathy Sanchez and husband, Anthony and Theresa Hancock; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jeraldine and brothers, Fred and Kevin. As a young teenager, Rick made a profession of faith in Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He served in the Army after high school. Rick was not perfect, but had a heart for others and a beautiful mind. He suffered from a mental affliction himself, but his heart of gold came blazing through. Rick will be remembered as the one that truly enjoyed being among people. He totally enjoyed his job at Boston Market, his trips to Walmart, and coffee every morning with Rudy. We, his family, trust that Rick is with his Heavenly Father forever. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Friday, December 12, 2003, 10:00 a.m., at Mountainside United Methodist Church, Cedar Crest, with Rev. David Bachelor officiating. MATTEUCCI -- Ralph Matteucci. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, November 24, 2003 at 11:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church, 400 West Third, Roswell, NM. The Reverend Doctor James Bruening, Honorably Retired, assisted by Reverend Doctor Hugh Burroughs will conduct the service. Ralph Lawrence Matteucci was born in Albuquerque May 26, 1932, the son of Margaret and Pete Matteucci. Mr. Matteucci grew up in Albuquerque, married and reared his family in Roswell, NM and spent the past 20 years residing in Phoenix, AZ and Las Vegas, NV. He attended St. Mary's School, Washington Junior High, graduated from Albuquerque High School and received a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of New Mexico in 1954. While in school he was an avid athlete and was named to the Albuquerque High School All Time Football Team. As a member of the 1952 UNM Lobo football team he was inducted into the Football Hall of Honor. He served for two years in the United States Air force and was discharges as a 2nd Lieutenant. In 1957, he moved to Roswell, NM where he operated the Pecos Sales Company. During his career in the beverage alcohol industry he was active at Richard Distributing Company and United Wholesale Liquor Company in New Mexico, Phoenix Distributing Company and All American Distributing in Arizona. He was a past director of the Wine and Spirit Wholesalers of America. In 1996, he and his children purchased New Mexico National Financial, Inc., a bank holding company. He is survived by his wife, Sandra, daughter, Anna Maria, son James, granddaughter, Chelsi, brother Alex and his wife, Nancy, sister, Margaret Mary, brother Richard and his wife Nedra, nieces Christine Matteucci Simon, Cheryl Matteucci Nikirk, Caren Matteucci Lewis and nephews, John Matteucci and Richard Matteucci. KALLWEIT -- Eva Kallweit, 98, a resident of Rio Rancho for the past 28 years, passed away on Monday, November 17, 2003. Eva was born January 5, 1905 the daughter of Simon and Stiera Fewes Kaplan in Frauenburg, Latvia. She came to New Mexico from Florida. She had been a dressmaker before retiring. She was a member of the Meadowlark Senior Center. Eva was preceded in death by her husband, Kurt Kallweit and one son, Robert Kallweit. She is survived by one son, Richard Kallweit of Wilton, CT, daughter-in-law, Hildegard Kallweit of Wyoming; three grandchildren, Cheryl Brown and husband Mark, David Kallweit, and Jesse Kallweit and wife Mercy all of Colorado; and her dear friend and companion, Ronald C. Evans. A Visitation will be held for Eva on Thursday, November 20, 2003 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho with the Service at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary with Pastor Si Budager officiating. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. SIMON -- Marian W. Simon, 90, a resident of Rio Rancho for the past 27 years, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2003. Marian was born January 1, 1913 in Pittsburgh, Pa., to her parents Harry Weber and Jane Lightbody. She had been a secretary in the steel manufacturing business before retiring. When her health permitted, Marian loved to travel. She had been around the world at least once.Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, and children JoAn Lucero and Richard Simon. She is survived by four grandchildren, John Lucero and wife C.J., Jo Ellyn Lucero, Jill Sanchez and husband Michael, Jay Lucero and wife Gabrielle; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. APODACA -- Josie Apodaca, 93, a lifelong resident of New Mexico went to meet her creator on Wednesday, November 5, 2003. Josie was born October 5, 1910 to Simon and Seola (Gonzales) Apodaca in San Marcial, NM. Josie was at home, surrounded by her family at the time of separation of body and spirit. To know Josie is to know honesty and love. Her enthusiasm for life included her large family and joy for music and dancing. A part of history will go with Josie, but she left us with a lot of stories. Some sad, some happy, but never the less these memories and her legend will live on. Josie gave birth to 11 children. A set of twins and a son died in infancy and also a daughter, Elopa Lopez in 1990. She is also preceded by her husband of 25 years, Anastacio Contreras. She is survived by her daughters, Esther Chavez of Flagstaff, AZ, Frances Salas and husband, Juaquin of Albuquerque, NM and Mary Tafoya and husband, Epifanio of Albuquerque; sons, Samuel Contreras and wife, Veronica of Albuquerque, Eugene Contreras and wife, Helen of Albuquerque; and son and caregiver, Aurelio Sedillo of the family home in Socorro; 42 grandchildren; 105 great-grandchildren; 42 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild. A Rosary will be recited on Friday, November 7, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. at the San Miguel Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 8, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at San Miguel with Father John C. Daniel as Celebrant. Cremation arrangements are under the care of Steadman-Hall Funeral Home, 309 Garfield, Socorro, NM.

SANCHEZ -- Mr. Rumaldo G. Sanchez died Monday, October 27, 2003 in Bosque Farms at the age of 79. Mr. Sanchez is preceded in death by his parents, Simon and Virginia Sanchez; son, Gilbert Sanchez; and two brothers, Roque and Richard Sanchez. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Corine Sanchez of Bosque Farms; daughter, Jo Ana S. Fields (Jo Ana Sanchez, MD) and husband, Luke, Vernon, TX; two sons, Robert Sanchez, and Tom Sanchez and wife, Bertha, all of Albuquerque; sisters, Charlotte Vallejos, Lucy S. Montano, both of Albuquerque, and Angie Cordova and husband, Tony of Towsend, Montana; brother, Tony Sanchez of Albuquerque; and five grandchildren. A Rosary for Mr. Sanchez will be recited on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Salazar & Sons Mortuary. Funeral Services will be held on Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Peralta, NM, where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Pajarito Cemetery. GARCIA -- Mr. Epifanio C. Garcia died Thursday, October 16, 2003 in Bernalillo at the age of 79. Mr. Garcia was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Lyons Club, DAV Chapter 3 and American Legion Post 69. Mr. Garcia was a lifelong member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, where he served as an usher, a choir member and was in the first group of Crusiestas. Mr. Garcia is preceded in death by a son, Eugene Garcia. He is survived by his wife, Rosella C. Garcia of Alameda, sons, Clarence R. Garcia and wife, Donna of Albuquerque, Epifanio Garcia Jr. and wife, Liz of Bernalillo, and Leonard L. Garcia and wife, Annette of Houston, TX; and daughters, Marcelina Torres of Albuquerque, Andrea Leal and husband, Andrew of Alameda and Yvonne M. Eagan and husband, Chris of Albuquerque. He is also survived by his brother, Querino C. Garcia and wife, Socorro of Alameda; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral Services for Mr. Garica will be held on Monday, October 20, 2003 at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Francisco Garcia, Simon Garcia, Adam Torres, Sean Garcia, Mike Berlint, and Jacob Garcia. GOLDMAN -- Rebecca Goldman passed away on her 90th birthday surrounded by her loving, adoring family. She died as she lived, a gentle, brilliant, elegant woman who relished her roles as wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Simon, the love of her life. Rebecca was active in the community. She was president of Hadassah and chaired the Women's Division of UJA and many associated fund raising drives and programs. She served on the board of the All Faiths Receiving Home for many years. Rebecca's strength of character, abiding integrity, love for family, friends, and Israel will live on for generations to come. Graveside services to celebrate her life will be held Sunday, October 5, 2003, 10:00 A.M. at Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery.
