SPENCE -- Marie Spence, 89, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on February 23, 2011. She was born on May 6, 1921 in Memphis, Texas to Mary Amanda Russell Finley and Matison Earl Finley. She graduated from high school in Muleshoe, TX, in 1937. (In July, 2010, she returned to Muleshoe for a class reunion and was the oldest graduate in attendance). She traveled alone by train to Seattle, WA. to begin 54 years of marriage to Robert Cecil (Bob) Spence on June 10, 1942. Within the year, Bob shipped overseas to serve in the European Theatre in WWII. In 1948, they moved to Albuquerque when Bob joined Sandia National Laboratories. His job took them to Las Vegas, NV. in the early 70's for four years, after which they returned to Albuquerque. Marie was an avid bridge player, cook and seamstress. A great pleasure for her was her large extended family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchild, and many wonderful friends through the years. Marie is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her two brothers, Russell Finley and Clifton Finley and his wife, Owetha. She is survived by her daughters: Karon Boutz and husband John, Kelly Vottero and Andy Gonzales, all of Albuquerque, and Karla Spence and partner Linda Davis, of Tucson, AZ; her grandchildren: Paul Boutz and wife Abby of Boston, MA, Shelley Boutz Kapikian and husband Gregg of Annapolis, MD, Danny Boutz of Austin, TX, Amanda Boutz and fiance Ben Specter of Belen, NM, Nick Vottero and girlfriend Jackie Oliver, and Louis (Al) Vottero and girlfriend Laura Baldwin all of Albuquerque; her one great grandchild, Alexander Kapikian; her sister-in-law, Wilma Finley of El Paso, TX; her cousin, Sammie Johnson of Quitaque, TX; five nieces, two nephews, and devoted friends, Jan Gallo, Fran Griffeth and the Boutz extended family. The family wishes to give thanks to all of the special people with Hospice de la Luz and to the dedicated caregivers at Life Spire on Rio Grande and at Tender Heart Assisted Living-especially Amy Hourigan. Marie's cremated remains will be interred with her husband at the Santa Fe National Cemetery and a private memorial will be held at a later date. GANGER -- Ida Ganger, age 68, formerly of Edgewood, died and went to be with her Lord, Thursday, February 17, 2011 in Montgomery, AL. Ida was born in Carrizozo, NM to Dolores and Senaida Marquez. She had been the business manager for KASA FOX 2. Ida is survived by Steve, her husband of 38 years; children, Manuel Gonzalez III, Lorrianne Gonzalez, Jon Gonzalez, Andrew Ganger; grandchildren, Manuel Gonzalez IV, Joclyn Gonzalez, Ariel Gonzalez, Sara Gonzalez; great-grandson, Elijah Gonzales; sisters, Marina Marks and husband Leonard, Cecelia Blanco and husband Israel, Bernice Marquez, Hope Velasquez and husband Joe, Melissa Marquez; brothers, Ramon Marquez and wife Viola, Carlos Marquez and wife Pam, Melcor Marquez and wife Susie and Robert Marquez. OTERO -- Porfirio Otero, 86, loving father, brother, grandfather and friend went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Monday, January 24, 2011. Porfirio was born in El Cerro, NM on May 24, 1924. Porfirio was a proud member of the Grandfathers Program at Dolores Gonzales Elementary School. He was also very active within his church, Sacred Heart Catholic Church as well as the Barelas Senior Center. Porfirio adored his family and loved spending time with them. Porfirio is survived by his loving children, Lorraine Pollack and husband Gabriel, Mary Benavidez, Aida Garcia and husband Ron, Tom Otero, Anthony Otero and wife Dolores, and Lawrence Otero and wife Charlene; ten grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Al Marquez; and two sisters, Mela Lewis, Fila Vigil; and numerous other family and friends. Porfirio was preceded in death by his beloved wife Josephine of 52 years. Porfirio will be missed by all who knew and loved him. SERNA -- Virginia "Gina" M. Serna, 65, resident of Albuquerque, passed away at her home surrounded by family on Sunday, January 9, 2011. She is survived by her loving husband, Chris; children, Brenda Pacheco and husband Al, Christopher M. Serna, Rebecca Serna, Gino Serna, and Veronica Serna; sisters, Marylou Lane, Dolores Vigil, and Christina Apodaca; sisters-in-law, Frances Gonzales and Benny Armijo, Liz Alvarado and husband John, Eloisa Austin and George Goodkin; brothers-in-law, Anthony Serna and wife Monica, and Joseph Serna and wife Sharon; aunt's, Ida Pacheco and Angie Martinez and husband Manuel, Joann Serna, and Loraine Serna; 16 nieces; nine nephews; and many extended family members. Gina was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Josephine Sandoval; and her mother-in-law, Maria Aurelia Serna. Gina quickly became a friend to everyone she met. She had a talent for remembering and recognizing everyone's birthday. Gina will always be remembered as the backbone of the family. She always saw the good in everyone, and always had a kind word. GARLEY -- Albert Joe Garley, age 65, passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2010 after a five year battle with PSP. He was a resident of Belen since moving here from Albuquerque in 1958. Albert is preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Emma Garley and three older brothers, "Boycito", Tony and Ray Sandoval and their wives, Edwina and Frances. He is survived by his wife, Katherine Earline Garley; son, Allan "A.J." Garley and his wife Brittney; two granddaughters, Alexandria Baca and Haidyn Garley; two brothers, Eloy Garley and his wife Ida and Larry Garley; six sisters, Elisa Barela and her husband Ray, Andrea DeMmon and her husband John, Vivian Shimabuku of Hawaii, Lillian Garley, Grace Gonzales and her husband Al and Theresa Garley and her husband Clyde McKenzie and brother-in-law, Ron Butler of Belen. GURULE -- Lydia D. Gurule, 93, passed away October 13, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph; and daughter Betty Montoya; sisters, Nellie Gonzales and Rita Brock; and brother Al Diaz. She is survived by two sons, Richard R. Gurule and Gilbert Gurule; brother Jimmy Diaz; sister Josephine Scott; grandchildren, Anthony and wife Lorie Montoya, Michelle Martin and husband, Rachelle Creech and Ronald Gurule; great-grandchildren, Anthony Montoya Jr., Matthew Montoya, Lisa Montoya, Kaylee Creech, Allison Creech, Christopher Creech; and several nephews and nieces. She was a life-long member of the Catholic Church and was devoted to her family and high ideals. She treasured her family dearly; she was a devoted wife and mother. SANDOVAL -- Carlos Sandoval, 48, a resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, August 9, 2010. His last moments were spent surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife Joylen; son, Domenic, and daughter Latoya; his mother, Mary; his sisters and brothers, Eloisa, Nancy, Cindy, Ernie and Rick; and his five grandchildren, Capri, Domenic, Damien, RyAnn and Dezire; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. GONZALES -- Evelyn June Gonzales, age 77, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, succumbed to cancer after two years and was taken from her loving family by our Lord to be with Him in His Heavenly Kingdom, Saturday, July 3, 2010. She will be missed immensely by all who knew her, but everyone knows she is at peace with our Lord. Evelyn is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 60 years, Alonzo "Al" Gonzales; her children, Robert W. Gonzales and wife Dora, Linda Padilla and husband Gilbert, Debbie Vargas and husband Raul; her precious grandchildren, Jerry Padilla, Robert Gonzales, Jennifer Smith, Johnny Padilla, Jon Gonzales, Desmond Gonzales, Pamela Gonzales and Ashley Vargas; ten great-grandchildren including her precious love and checker playing partner, Girard (JR) Polaco; her loving pet dog, Buddy; her brother Marlin Yarmer and wife Lora; sister Bernadine Richardson; and numerous, nephews, nieces, extended family members; special friends Esther and Andy Barrios, Joe and Sandy Candelaria, and many more friends. Evelyn was co-owner and operator with her husband Al at Southwest Ceramics for 33 years and loved all her customers as she was loved by them. She was an avid gardener who enjoyed caring for her roses, flowers and her special tomatoes. Evelyn will always be remembered as having a driving force to help her family and friends. A Rosary for the repose of Evelyn's soul will be recited Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services-Alameda Mortuary.
