ABRAHAM -- Mildred Abraham died of cancer on July 2, 2010. She was born in Wellston, OK on October 18, 1917 to Ira Fyffe Baird and Muriel Baird. She is survived by daughter Melinda Lightfoot and son-in-law Thom Miley; son James B. Abraham and daughter-in-law Allison, daughter Lois Ann Abraham and son-in-law Thomas O'Toole, daughter Adair Landborn; grandson Daniel Abraham and granddaughter-in-law Kat Abraham, grandson Coda Hale; and great-granddaughter Scarlet Abraham. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband Clair Eugene Abraham in 1998. A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Manzano del Sol, 5201 Roma Ave. NE Albuquerque, NM 87108-1334. The family wishes to express gratitude to the staff and residents of Manzano del Sol where Mildred spent the last ten years of her life, spreading her joy of music at every opportunity. DELANEY -- Faith J Delaney, 79, Born April 21st 1931 in New Carlisle, Quebec Canada to George and Lottie Campbell. Faith went to be with the Lord July 2nd 2010. She is survived by her sons, Rex K Delaney and wife Claudia, Glen K Delaney and wife Lisa; grandchildren, Rachel, Kent, Sarah, and Guiden; her brother Goodie Campbell and wife Daphne; in-laws Gordon and Jeannie Lennox and Ella Knopf. GAETO -- Sam Nick Gaeto, 86, loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, uncle and friend passed away on July 3rd, 2010. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on April 27th, 1924 to Pasquale Anthony and Mary Rose Gaeto. Sam served as an officer in the United States Navy in the South Pacific during World War II and settled in New Mexico after the war. He received both his BBA in Accounting and Masters degrees from the University of New Mexico. He married his beautiful wife, Dorothy Lillian Hutton, on May 26th, 1951. He was a Certified Public Accountant and spent most of his career as an Accounting Manager at Sandia Laboratories in Albuquerque. He retired after 30 years in 1986. He was a leader in the community serving as an officer of Thunderbird Little League for over 25 years, as a long-time member of both the Queen Of Heaven Church and School boards, and as a CCD teacher. He is preceded in death by his wife of over 39 years, Dorothy, who passed away in 1991. He is survived by his loving sister, Claire Ellermeyer of Albuquerque, his four children, Mikki Ross of Washington, DC, Tom Gaeto of San Diego, California, Paul Gaeto of Dunlap, Illinois and Ed Gaeto of Albuquerque, and his thirteen grandchildren, Kara Paulson, Erin Steinhardt, Marc Steinhardt, Lauren Stenhardt, Amanda Kenny, Ryan Gaeto, Cassandra Gaeto, Angela Gaeto, Alyssa Gaeto, Sammy Gaeto, Lillian Gaeto, Nicholas Gaeto and Alex Gaeto. He was a warm, outgoing man who enjoyed life to its fullest and loved to make people laugh. He was a rabid sports fan and supported the New Mexico Lobos, the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns and Indians. A viewing will be held at Daniels Family Funeral Services, 1100 Coal Avenue SE from 5:00-7:00pm, Tuesday, July 6th, with a Rosary to be recited immediately following. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 7th, at Queen Of Heaven Church, 5303 Phoenix Avenue NE. GALE -- Thomas Gale, former Interim Provost and Dean Emeritus of Arts and Sciences at New Mexico State University died at his home on July 1,2010. Dr. Gale was Dean and Professor of History in the College of Arts and Sciences at New Mexico State University for the twenty years between 1971 and 1991. During his tenure as Dean, he guided the transformation of the College of Arts and Sciences into the largest of the university's six colleges-expanding both student enrollment and research funding. He also made valuable and lasting contributions to the performing and visual arts programs, and humanities, including establishing the Center for Latin American Studies. He was a pioneer in encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration at a time when many colleges and departments operated independently of one another. He worked closely with the Colleges of Education at NMSU and the University of New Mexico to improve teacher education in the state and with the Holmes Group, a national group of universities dedicated to the reform of teacher education. Born in Green Bay, WI in 1926 and raised in Southern California he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. While in college, he worked for the U.S. Forest Service in California; he received his B.A. (Phi Beta Kappa) and M.A. degrees in Latin American History from the University of California, Berkeley, and his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1958. Before coming to NMSU he taught Latin American history and was an Assistant and then Associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Kansas . While at the University of Kansas he met Mary Hardman, who was Assistant Dean of Women and they married in Madison WI in 1960. During his seventeen years at the University of Kansas, he was heavily involved with many of the Universitys Latin American programs, including directing its Junior Year Abroad in Costa Rica, and administering a Peace Corps program in education in Costa Rica. He served in Costa Rica from 1965 to 1969 as a consultant to the Organization of Central American Universities. He was a Fulbright Scholar in Peru and Spain with a grant from the Social Science Research Council. After coming to NMSU, he continued to travel to Latin America to interview Latin American university faculty for Fulbright grants in the United States . After his retirement in 1991, he became the chair of the 100-member Las Cruces 2000 Task Force, dedicated to the reform and support of public education in Las Cruces and affiliated with the national Federal education program, Goals 2000: Educate America. He helped organize and direct the Academy for Learning in Retirement and was the first chair of its Board of Directors from 1993-1996. He served on the Board of Directors of the Dona Ana Arts Council, chaired its Architectural Awards Committee, and in 1999 was awarded the Papen Family Arts Patron Award. He was appointed by Governor Bruce King to the New Mexico Commission on Higher Education in 1993, and served as vice-chair from 1997 until his term ended in 1999. He was a member of three state-wide Round Tables on education and a member of the Teacher Education Accountability Council. He served as a member of the New Mexico Pilot Study Committee on Judicial Review in 1997. In November 2001, he was elected president of the New Mexico State University Foundation Board of Directors and served two years in that capacity, and continued on the Board of Directors. He served on the Board of Directors of the Border Book Festival and the Board of Trustees of the Friends of the NMSU Art Gallery . He served as the first chair of the New Mexico Humanities Council (now Foundation) from 1972 to 1978, and later was awarded the Endowments Lifetime Achievement Award. In October 1998 he was given a leadership Award by Toastmasters, District 23. In 2000 he was appointed to the New Mexico Commission on Public Broadcasting In 2001 he returned to the New Mexico State University to serve in an interim basis as the first University Provost while a national search was conducted to fill the position. While he was Interim Provost, he provided leadership for the academic affairs of the entire institution, sharing his knowledge of the institution's history and its role as the state's land-grant university with the new administration. In 2002 he was awarded the New Mexico Distinguished Public Service Award by Governor Johnson. He served as co-chair of the Las Cruces Public Schools Blue Ribbon Bond Committee for 2006. In January, 2006, he was appointed the first Regents Emeritus Professor at NMSU. He was a member and Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Club of Las Cruces which he joined in 1971. Most recently, he was presented with the Branding Iron award by the New Mexico State University Foundation in 2009. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Margaret Hardman Gale; his son Thomas Hardman Gale, daughter-in-law Gail Hudgens Gale; and grandson Thomas Jonathan Gale, of El Paso , Texas ; son John Martin Gale, daughter-in-law Martha Cameron Willcox and grandsons Nathan Rossiter Gale and Thomas Willcox Gale of Washington DC . Services will be on Wednesday, July 7,2010 at 4:00 p.m. at La Paz Grahams Funeral Home, 555 W. Amador in Las Cruces . GONZALES -- Evelyn June Gonzales, age 77, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, succumbed to cancer after two years and was taken from her loving family by our Lord to be with Him in His Heavenly Kingdom, Saturday, July 3, 2010. She will be missed immensely by all who knew her, but everyone knows she is at peace with our Lord. Evelyn is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 60 years, Alonzo "Al" Gonzales; her children, Robert W. Gonzales and wife Dora, Linda Padilla and husband Gilbert, Debbie Vargas and husband Raul; her precious grandchildren, Jerry Padilla, Robert Gonzales, Jennifer Smith, Johnny Padilla, Jon Gonzales, Desmond Gonzales, Pamela Gonzales and Ashley Vargas; ten great-grandchildren including her precious love and checker playing partner, Girard (JR) Polaco; her loving pet dog, Buddy; her brother Marlin Yarmer and wife Lora; sister Bernadine Richardson; and numerous, nephews, nieces, extended family members; special friends Esther and Andy Barrios, Joe and Sandy Candelaria, and many more friends. Evelyn was co-owner and operator with her husband Al at Southwest Ceramics for 33 years and loved all her customers as she was loved by them. She was an avid gardener who enjoyed caring for her roses, flowers and her special tomatoes. Evelyn will always be remembered as having a driving force to help her family and friends. KELLEY -- Betty Jean "Jeannie" Kelley, age 82, a resident of Albuquerque, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 2, 2010. She is survived by her husband of 35 years O. W. "Del" Kelley; two children, Sharon Shero, husband Robert, Terry Caster, wife Lillian; three grandchildren Wendy, Stacie, and Kevin; six great-grandchildren Lexie, Deonte, Jade, Alexandra, Haley, and Sonny; and sister Bonnie Baillio, husband Dent. LOVATO -- Miguel L. Lovato, 58, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday July 1, 2010. He was born to Miguel and Carlota Lovato in Espanola, NM on August 28, 1951. Miguel is survived by his mother, Carlota Lovato; his sisters, Luisa Montoya and husband Valente, Dolores Hernandez and husband Brigido, Jane Yoakum and husband Craig, Elizabeth Duean and husband Adan, Lisa Nelson and husband Tom, Carol Harvey and husband Rich and Lydia Solis; his brothers Gilbert Lovato and wife Karen and David Lovato; and many nieces; nephews; friends and family. Miguel was preceded in death by his father Miguel Lovato. Miguel was an amazing and courageous man and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. MALDONADO -- Gloria A. Maldonado, 56, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on July 1, 2010. Gloria was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was born on March 11, 1954 in Belen, New Mexico to Amado Lueras and Teresa Navarro Ortiz. Gloria is survived by her beloved husband of 38 years, Stan Maldonado; daughters Melanie Aranda and husband James, Alicia Lueras Maldonado and husband Jerome, Cellina Sedillo and husband Jose; grandchildren Amadi, Gabriella and Carlos; siblings Rose Cutrer, Patsy Lueras, David Ortiz, Tomas Lueras; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters. Gloria studied nursing and holistic medicine and enjoyed quilting, embroidery, beadwork, gardening and travel. She was a creative and caring woman who will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Her family would like to extend gratitude to all their family and friends for their love and support. We will remember Gloria's laugh and the great stories she always shared. MARTIN -- Robert Auld Martin (Bob), born July 12, 1927 in Denver, Colorado, passed away on July 3, 2010 in the presence of his loving family. He maintained his wonderful sense of humor to the very end. Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth (Liz) Farley; his sisters Grace and Isabel and his brother Rich. He is survived by his brother Bill and his wife Marcia; his daughter Kathryn and her husband D. Lee Jones and their sons Durwood (Rocky) M. and Robert Lee; his daughter Deb and her husband Nathan Smith and their daughter Julia and Julia's husband Eric Dumars, and their children Keely and Riley; his daughter Patricia Glass and her children Westin, Aspen and Dawn, and Aspen's husband Miles Perovich and son Lex; his daughter Mary Christine (Christy) and her husband Daniel Leddy and their children Matthew and Erin; his daughter Margaret and her husband Michael D. Leach and their sons, Charles and Thomas; and his son Bobby and his wife Jo Axelrod Martin. Bob and Liz moved to Los Alamos in 1955 where he was employed by Los Alamos School District as a coach and physical education teacher for all grade levels. He started the Building Trades Program guiding high school students in sustainable home construction. Bob and Liz retired to Albuquerque in 1985. Bob was a nature lover, artist, and a frequent and faithful universal blood donor. He was also a Veteran who was proud to serve his country as a paratrooper in the Army. A private family service has been held. In lieu of donations or flowers, the family has requested that you consider making a blood donation.

WATERS -- Patricia Ann [Patty] Waters, age 72, of Albuquerque passed away Friday, July 2, 2010 at the family home surrounded by family and friends. Patty was born in Guthrie, Oklahoma and her parents Paul and Bonnie Cornwell of Tulsa, Oklahoma preceded her in death. She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years Bill Waters; Son W. Paul Waters, wife Wendy; grandson Brandon of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Son Steven A. Waters, wife Christie; grandson Quinn; granddaughter Tess of Palmdale, California. Patty attended Oklahoma State University and came to Albuquerque in 1958 with architect husband Bill Waters to start her life journey. She was a 50 year member of First Presbyterian Church, formerly Secretary to the Senior Pastor, member of the Church Foundation, active member of the Women's Auxiliary and Church Circle Bible Study Group. She worked in the counseling and administration office at El Dorado High School. She was an active member of PEO Chapter V, where she was President and Secretary, and other committees. Patty had a special place in her heart for her PEO sisters. She was a long time volunteer and supporter of the All Faiths Receiving Home. Patty inspired everyone with her faith, love and kindness. She found a special pleasure in helping others especially caring for cancer patients in the Reach for Recovery Group. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
