Nunez -- Our beautiful angel, Lupe Nunez, went to heaven to be with our Lord and Blessed Virgin Mother on September 27, 2001. Lupe was born on October 29, 1911, and would have celebrated her 90th birthday in October (with lots of spirit and mariachi music). She is survived and will be missed greatly by her sister, Rose Nunez and husband, Antonio; sisters-in-law, Stella and Julia; and many nieces and nephews who considered Lupe to be the matriarch of the Nunez family. In particular, Steve, Frances, and Bertha will miss her gentle touch and her smile. Lupe will also be missed by her friends who knew and loved her. Lupe was preceded in death by her mother and father, Eloisa and Pancho; brothers, Raymond, Steve, Saturnino, Pete, Frank, Juan and Richard; and sister, Tonia Armijo. Lupe didn't come into this world to be famous or become rich. Rather, God sent her to us to be like the character in "It's a Wonderful Life," in that she impacted so many lives without her knowing it. She helped raise all her siblings until they died before her and raised nephews and nieces never wanting for herself, but always giving of herself and her possessions. She went to work when she was 13 years of age to help support her family. She loved her job at the Imperial Laundry and later at the Sanitary Dry Cleaning establishment. In later years, Lupe was known for her spontaneous singing of her special song to our Blessed Mother (she had a voice like an angel) at Sunday Masses and Funerals. For those of you who clapped and acknowledged her singing, we thank you. For those who visited her during her illness, you will always be remembered by us. For the hospice care provided by Phyllis, we extend our sincere appreciation. Lupe was an active member of the church choir for over 50 years and other church committees, always being the first to volunteer to help raise funds for various church functions. A Rosary to celebrate her life here on Earth will be held on Friday, September 28, 2001, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 29, 2001, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier. Burial will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery following the Mass Services. Pallbearers will be Peter Armijo, Michael Denman, David Gutierrez, Anthony Nunez, Fred Denman and Pete Nunez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Daniel Gutierrez, Bridget Kreamer, Hope Nunez, Johnny Nunez and Rosanna Nunez. Arrangements by Salazar & Sons Mortuary, 400 Third St. SW.
