GATEWOOD -- Clarence N. (Cal) Gatewood II, a resident of Albuquerque since 1977, died Monday, September 13, 2004. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Cheryl Ann Gatewood; and his granddaughter, Criselda G. Teachey. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Esther E. (Candelaria) Gatewood; two sons: Donald N. Gatewood and wife, Evelyn of Virginia Beach, VA and David N. Gatewood and wife, Lynn of Albuquerque; eight grandchildren: Anna and Barbara Gatewood of Virginia Beach, VA, Donna Minson of Orlando, FL, Chris and Marcus Hulliger of Albuquerque, Daniel, Miguel and Nicole Gatewood of Albuquerque; and four great-grandchildren: Chaz Gatewood of Virginia Beach, VA, Stephen and Elijah Teachey of Turkey, NC, and Travis J. Minson of Orlando, FL. He is also survived by four brothers: George J. Gatewood of Los Angeles, CA, Henry D. Gatewood II and wife, Mary Lee of Chandler, AZ, David Gatewood and wife, Tillie of Fayetteville, NC, Mickey Dalton and wife, Marilyn of Ft. Defiance, AZ; and one sister: Mary Ann Gatewood of Prescott Valley, AZ. All the brothers were US Army Paratroopers. Cal was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church, where his father-in-law, the late Rev. J.I. Candelaria was a pastor for more than 30 years. Cal retired from the Army with 30 years of service. He entered the Army in 1947 as a paratrooper and later became the Navajo Nation's first helicopter pilot. Cal served in several overseas locations including Korea as a helicopter pilot, two tours in Vietnam flying the CH-47 Chinook on his first tour and the CH-54-B Skycrane on his second tour. On his first tour Cal was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for a night rescue of 14 Air Force personnel whose plane had crashed into the side of a mountain. Cal was a Master Army Aviator, Master Parachutist, and received many awards. He was born in Fort Defiance, AZ in 1930. Cal attended the Ganado Presbyterian mission school where he met his future wife, Esther E. Candelaria, who was attending Nurse's Training School. They were married on June 14, 1951 at the Second Presbyterian Church by her father Rev. J.I. Candelaria. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, 11:00 a.m., at the Second Presbyterian Church, 812 Edith Blvd. NE, with Pastor Jaime O. Quinones officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE, with full military honors. Pallbearers will be Brian DeHerrera, David Candelaria, Eric Candelaria, Marty Gallegos, Travis Irwin, and Nathan Gatewood. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren. HINDI -- Ednen Hindi passed away peacefully in Albuquerque on September 5, 2004 at the age of 81. Born on April 4, 1923, he grew up on the family's sheep, cattle, and horse ranch in Torrance County and attended school in Duran, NM. Ednen attended high school and college at New Mexico Military Institute, where he excelled in academics and was an accomplished athlete, and graduated in 1943. He subsequently served in the US Army from 1943 to 1952. As a lieutenant platoon commander in the First Armored Division, he served in Europe during WWII, earning the Bronze Star. He was stationed in Texas during the Korean War, at which time he was promoted to Captain. He married Billie Ray Smith from Floydada, TX, in 1948. After leaving the military, they lived on the ranch and raised 3 children. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Vaughn. He enjoyed hunting and photography, and was an avid horseman, inventive rancher, and loving husband, father, and grandfather. Ed was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at an early age. Through the many years of his illness, he never lost his love of life or sense of humor. Even as his illness progressed, he continued to use his abilities for weaving, pottery making, and other creative artwork. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Clarita Duran (1973), from Duran and Alex Hindi (1974), who immigrated to the US from Zahle, Lebanon in 1908; his wife, Billie Ray Smith (1989), his eldest son, Ednen Alex (2001); and his sister, Hafiza (Tony) Gallegos (2000). He is survived by his son, Robert D. Hindi, M. D. of San Francisco; daughter, Sarah Hindi and Maureen Eckroth of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Ednen William, Khara Rose, Amarah Kay, Jhad Alex, all of Albuquerque; his sister, Samia (Harry) Doro, and brothers, Brahaim (Susie Garde), Sam (Amelia Vicente), Shafie (Emma Budagher), and Nabay (Vivian Tapia); 22 nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins, great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews. The family would like to sincerely thank the numerous caregivers for their care and support over the past several years, particularly the physicians, nurses, and hospital staff at the Spinal Cord Injury Unit of the Veterans Hospital in Albuquerque. ADAME -- Eulalia Eulalia Adame 1930-2004 Eulalia 'Lala' Adame, 74, born in 1930, went home to the Lord on Tuesday September 7, 2004. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband, Filberto Adame; brothers, Lorenzo Aragon, Tony Aragon, Isidro Aragon, and Milo Aragon. Lala is survived by her brother, Fito Aragon; her sisters, Carnation Armijo and Hilda Aragon; her son Delubino Jinzo and his wife Geneva; her daughter, Linda Gonzales and her husband, Lorenzo; her grandchildren, Ramona Chacon, Delray Gonzales, Terri Clark, Tanya Jinzo; her great-grandchildren, Alisandro Chacon, Johnny Garcia, Lawrence Clark, Larry Ann Clark, Dominique Parra, Jesse Florencio Parra; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. The family would especially like to thank the entire staff at Laurel Meadows Nursing Home, Tina Hans-Gallegos, and Pastor Don DuBerry from Belen Christian Church. Following Lala's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Friday September 10, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. at the Belen Christian Church located on the corner of 11th St. and Dillon in Belen. ARMIJO -- Joe R. Armijo, 55, went home to be with the Lord on September 5, 2004. He was born on October 8, 1948 in San Antonio, NM. Joe moved to Gallup 19 years ago. He worked for Coors Maloof for 30 years and for T&R Market for two years. Joe is preceded in death by his father, Perfecto Armijo; and mother, Juanita; brother, Johnny Armijo; and his mother-in-law, Valentina Chavez. Joe was a great family man and friend; he also was a great dancer and a #1 Lobo fan. He was a dedicated father, special grandpa, and enjoyed telling stories and jokes, and he also loved the outdoors. He is survived by his wife, Lillian Armijo; son, Ray A. Armijo and wife, Martha; daughters, Melissa Gallegos and husband, Albert Romero and Marlo Armijo; son-in-law, Noah Griego; brothers, Junior and wife, Rosemary, Anthony Armijo, Ralph Armijo, Jerry Armijo, and Arturo Armijo; sister, Gloria Armijo; sisters-in-law, Nadine Lopez, Rosie Keesecker, Lori Anderson, April Hopper, and Allen Hopper and Son, Isaiah; grandchildren, D.J. Gallegos, Shannon Armijo, J.J. Gallegos, Amber Armijo; and many godchildren, nieces, and nephews. Joe will be deeply missed by his loving family. SANCHEZ -- Raymond James "Jimmy" Sanchez. On September 5, 2004 our Heavenly Father called Raymond home. A lifelong resident of Albuquerque, Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Ramon and Jenny Sanchez; brother, Alex Sanchez; and half-sister, Anita Maldonado. He is survived by the mother of his children, Theresa "Terri" Sanchez; son, Dennis Sanchez; daughters, Denise and Dee Sanchez, all of Albuquerque; two grandsons, Joshua Sanchez of Albuquerque and Jonathon Ramsey of Florida; special aunt, Peggy Duran; step-mother, Margaret Sanchez; step-sister, Dolores; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; companion and friend, Lillian Gallegos and family. Raymond proudly served in the United States Air Force and the New Mexico National Guard. He retired from Sandia National Laboratories and was a member of the American Legion. Raymond loved to fish and always had some project or another in the making. He loved his pups, especially his "Buddy Boy." Raymond was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Those who knew him will truly miss him. Mass will be celebrated Thursday, 9:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1860 Griegos NW. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. ROMERO -- Charles A. Romero Jr., 35, passed away Friday, September 3, 2004. A lifetime resident of Albuquerque, he worked as a journeyman plumber. Charles was preceded in death by his grandparents, Demecio and Adela Romero and Nasario and Josie Gallegos.
