SANCHEZ -- Della Pauline Sanchez, 91, native of Albuquerque, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2009. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews including, Mary Gallemore, Mary Ann Sanchez, Marcella Hoehne, Viola Ulibarri, Raymond Sanchez, Gilbert Sanchez and Martin Sanchez. She was preceded in death by her parents, Olegario and Adela C. Sanchez. Della was born July 6, 1918 in Old Town. She loved her parents and family, and they were the most important part of her life. She was the last of the Alvarado Hotel's Harvey Girls and was so proud to have been able to be one of them. Della's time at church, Our Lady of Fatima, and her time with friends in the Women's Guild were her most treasured moments. Gallagher Hall was where everybody knew her name. She will be sorely missed. Rosary will be recited Monday, September 7, 2009, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, September 8, 2009, 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 4020 Lomas NE. GOMEZ -- Daniel (Danny) R. Gomez, 74, was born in Gallup, NM and was a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on September 3, 2009. Mr. Gomez is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Michiko; his daughters, Dannilynn Winter and husband, Ryan, and Anna Marie Sherman; his son, Fred Gonzalez and wife, Bernadette; his grandchildren, Justine, Stacey Faith, Keith, Kevin, Daniel Ray, and Matthew; his sister, Corrine Andler; and many nieces; nephews; cousins; Godchildren; and good friends. Mr. Gomez was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob Gomez and Annie Ross; sister, Geraldine Espinosa; brothers, Richard, Arthur and Leo Gomez; and his grandson, Kelly Daniel. Danny was a Veteran of U.S. Navy serving during the Vietnam Era and retired after 24 years of service as a Chief Petty Officer in 1977. He was a culinary arts instructor at the Crownpoint Institute of Technology and also at the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute, retiring 2003. He was a board member of IFSEA, and was named Chef of the year two years in a row from the American Chef Federation. Visitation will be Sunday, September 6, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel. MARTINEZ -- Martin Martinez was born December 2, 1925 in Maxwell, New Mexico. He passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2009, in Albuquerque, at the age of 82. Martin was preceded in death by his sons, Oliver Martinez, David Martinez and wife Lena. He is survived by his daughters, Mary Garcia and husband Jr., Cruzita Gonzales and husband Joe, Perta Martinez and husband Perfecto and Libby Martinez; sons, Johnny Martinez and wife Cynthia, Joe Martinez and wife Mary, Dragon Martinez, Michael Martinez and wife Michelle and Jessie Martinez; brother, Simon Martinez; grandchildren, Angel Martinez and Frankie Romero who loved him very much and will miss him dearly; 36 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; other family members and friends who loved and will miss him. The Funeral Services will held at New Beginnings Church, Montgomery and Carlisle NE. on Friday, September 4, 2009. The Viewing will begin at 9:00 a.m. with the Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery near Edith and Ranchitos NW. VALLEJOS -- Gilbert Joe Vallejos, 86, a resident of Los Lunas since 1997, passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2009. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evangelia Vallejos; grandson, Andrew Vallejos; two brothers; and one sister. He is survived by his children, Corrina Vallejos, Alvin Vallejos and wife, Betty Ann, Sylvia Sanchez and husband, Elias Sanchez, and Jerry Vallejos and wife, Pamela Vallejos; eight loving grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; five brothers; four sisters; and many other loving family members and friends. Toward the end of his life he was cared for by his granddaughter Nicole Santiago and her husband, Martin Santiago. During his life Mr. Vallejos owned a service station in Albuquerque and also retired from Blake's Lotaburger after 19 years of service. He also worked with the Santa Fe Railroad as well as a school bus operator. In his free time Mr. Vallejos loved the outdoors spending time hunting, fishing, and camping. Throughout his life he was a great friend and loving family member to many, he will be greatly missed. A rosary will be held Thursday, September 3, 2009, 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1860 Griegos NW. HATCH -- Sean Eugene Hatch, 36, of Avondale, AZ died after a long illness on August 28, 2009, at Promise Hospital in Phoenix AZ. Sean was born January 15, 1973, in Albuquerque, NM, to Teresha and Rodney Hatch II. He graduated from Belen High School and later attended New Mexico Tech where he received Bachelor degrees in Mathematics and Physics in 1995. He went on to receive a Masters in Mathematics in 1996. Sean achieved a 4.0 GPA throughout his academic years. Sean was employed by Lockheed Martin in Goodyear, AZ as a Research Scientist. Sean enjoyed reading technical books, solving impossible math problems and playing with the latest electronic gadgets. Sean could also be found shooting and hiking with his friends from work. Sean will be greatly missed by his family and everyone who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Tamara Hernandez; two sons Allan Sebastian, age 4 and Evan Vincent, age 2; his parents Teresha and Rodney Hatch II of Belen, NM; his sister Darhla (Hatch) Gilson, brother-in-law James and their children Joseph and Virginia of Albuquerque, NM; and his grandparents June and Rodney Hatch, Sr. of Albuquerque, NM. Visitation begins at 9:00 a.m. followed by a 10:00 a.m. service on Friday, September 4, 2009 at French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM. Interment will follow at Terrace Grove Cemetery, Belen, NM. (Services were also held Tuesday, Sept 1st in Litchfield Park, AZ.) MARTINEZ -- Mercie S. Martinez, 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 31, 2009 surrounded by his family. Mr. Martinez was a veteran of the US Army and served during World War II. He was also a sales manager for Montgomery Wards for 30 years. Mr. Martinez was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Marie Martinez. He is survived by his children, Leonard Martinez, Martin Martinez and wife, Victoria, and Evelyn Vasquez and husband, Donald; grandchildren, Teresa Martinez, Sean Martinez, Sheyenne Martinez and Angelica Vasquez; great-grandson, Isaiah Jospeh Martinez; sister, Betty Castro; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass for Mr. Martinez will be celebrated on Thursday, September 3, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church. SIMMONS -- James (Jim) Hugo Simmons, 79, an Albuquerque resident for 63 yrs, died August 20, 2009. Jim was born in Topeka, KS January 15, 1930 and moved to Alb. in 1946. He then attended Albuquerque High School and was a star boxer and gymnast. He later served in the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant and a marksmanship instructor. In 1973, Jim founded Simmons Plumbing Co. and ran his family business for 36 years. Jim had a lifelong passion for archery and bow hunting. He was a life member of the National Field Archers Assoc. and the NRA. Jim's love of the sport led him and a few friends to start the Alb. Field Archers Club in 1948. They were able to build an Archery range on the East side of the Sandia Mountains for all to enjoy for many years to come. Bow hunting has always brought a smile to his face. Jim died doing what he loved. While returning home from an Antelope hunt, he suffered a fatal heart attack. He was preceded in death by his parents Irvin and Cathy Simmons; his sons James C., Gregory and Paul Simmons. He is survived by his wife, Donna Martin Simmons, of 45 years; Sister Margaret Lucas; Brother John and wife Ashley Simmons; Sons David, Roy and wife Miranda; Daughters April and husband Toby Hall, Joy and husband Clint Weisel, Melody and husband Paul Valdez; Grandchildren Laura Delfino, Cameron, Hannah, Hunter, Angus, Shania, Savannah Simmons; Tina and Randy Hall, Keri and Warren Finley, Jessica and Jasmine Weisel, Paige Valdez; Great Grandchildren Klarissa Hall, Henry and Scarlet Delfino. A memorial service will be held August 29, 2009 at 2p.m. at The Montano Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. 1100 Montano NW, Albuquerque, New Mexico.
