Cazzola -- Harry M. Cazzola, a resident of Albuquerque since 1967, died this weekend. He grew up in Deming, NM graduated from NMSU with a degree in mechanical engineering and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army. He headed several CCC camps in New Mexico. He began a hardware and lumber store in Cimarron, NM until World War II, when he was called up to the Pacific Theater as a Lieutenant Colonel for the Air Force. After the war, he began again in lumber and hardware in Springer, NM running the Shollenbarger and Cazzola Lumber Co. until 1967 when he moved the Aspen Air Manufacturing Co. to Albuquerque. Harry was a loving family man who enjoyed being outdoors and his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Cazzola, of Albuquerque; sons, Edward B. Cazzola of Albuquerque, and Harry J. Cazzola of Amarillo, TX; grandchildren, Rachel Cazzola of Albuquerque, Laura Cazzola of Marietta, OK, Daniel Cazzola of Flower Mound, TX and Phillip Cazzola of Denver, CO; and three great-grandchildren. A Rosary and Mass will be held at Queen of Heaven Church on Thursday evening. Burial will take place in Logan, NM. Memorial contributions may be made to Queen of Heaven School.

Romero -- Dorothy F. Romero, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on October 20, 2002. Dorothy was born on November 8, 1949 to Jose Timoteo and Pat Salazar Martinez in Springer, NM. Dorothy graduated with honors with a masters degree in education from the University of New Mexico. She was an elementary school teacher and spent most of her time teaching at Dolores Gonzales Elementary, Carlos Rey Elementary, and her last teaching years with her precious physically impaired students at Mark Twain Elementary School. She loved volunteering and worked with the South Broadway Cultural Center and the North Valley Community Center. Dorothy was very active in the Hispanic community and enjoyed helping the less fortunate and provided education and translation services for them. Dorothy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Alameda. Her precious sons were the passion of her life. Dorothy will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her father, Jose Martinez; and her sister, Abelina Irene Martinez. Dorothy is survived by her beloved sons, Timothy James Romero and his wife, Maria Elena of Rio Rancho, Thomas Matthew Romero of Albuquerque; mother, Pat Martinez of Springer, NM; sister, Nancy Paulich of Raton, NM; brother, Timoteo Martinez and his wife, Anita of Wagon Mound, NM; granddaughter, Savannah Jade Romero; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and a host of cherished friends and former students. A visitation will be held for Dorothy on Wednesday, October 23, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Springer, NM. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 a.m. also at the church. Interment will take place at the Sweetwater Cemetery. Hazen -- Arthur G. Hazen, Jr. died at his home in Escondido, California on June 26, 2002. He was born in Mosquero, New Mexico on September 21, 1922 to Arthur G. Hazen Sr., and Cora Moore Hazen. He attended school there until his graduation from high school in 1941. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Leone Hazen Seidel of Springer, NM and Glenna Hazen Green of Springer, NM and also two sisters, Cora Shirley Hazen and Patsy Jo Hazen who died in early childhood during a measles epidemic. After high school, he worked for the Farm Credit in Wichita, Kansas, and also enjoyed being a rodeo bull rider. His attendance at UNM in Albuquerque on a basketball scholarship was interrupted when he enlisted in the Army during World War II. Initially, he served in the African-Middle Eastern campaign, and then went into France with the Normandy invasion. The itinerary of his AAA Group with VII Corps shows that from a foxhole on Utah Beach on D-Day, until V-E Day, that the unit marched 1359 miles across France, Belgium and Germany. He suffered serious medical problems while wintering at the Battle of the Bulge. However, he then was attached to any Army Unit that continued into Germany and were initial liberators of two concentration camps. After the war, he married Doris Roberts and settled in Albuquerque to rear their six children. He pursued a career in sales, eventually moving to California in 1968. In California, he became a cattle rancher and horse trainer. He also became an avid square dancer, and it was at a dance in 1974 that he met his current wife, Patricia, of Escondido. He spent 17 years as a Park Ranger at Dixon Lake for the City of Escondido. During that time, he and his wife, Patricia took in 126 foster children."Grandpa" always tried to instill positive virtues and good behavior in his foster kids, realizing that he might be their most important family at that time. He was a devoted father to his own children, and a loving grandfather to 30 natural grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He enjoyed sharing treasures from his desk with the young ones, teaching of his life. He will be best remembered for his depression-era love of all small possessions and the World War II-era value he placed on each and every day of life. Barth -- Arthur W. Barth (Bill Barth), born in Seattle, Washington on November 30, 1919, died December 23, 2001 of complications from a long illness. He was preceded in death by his wife,"Pat" Barth in July of 2001. In his early years, he served in the U.S. Army as a 1st Lt. He was forced to retire from the Army due to a chronic arthritic condition. Despite health obstacles, he maintained an active lifestyle and graduated from the University of Washington with a BS in Electrical Engineering. He and Pat relocated to Albuquerque so he could pursue a successful career at Sandia National Laboratories where he retired in 1979. In the 1950's and early 1960's he was active in the Rio Grande Kennel Club and was a founding member of Sandia Dog Obedience Club. He, his wife and young son, Gary, enjoyed raising and exhibiting Nationally recognized English Springer Spaniels. In later years he accompanied his daughter (Janet) in pursuing her interest in exhibiting Quarter Horses. These days brought many happy memories to all. After retiring from Sandia Laboratories he and Pat moved to Escondido, California to own and operate a small avocado orchard. They soon discovered their hearts belonged in New Mexico and returned to Albuquerque until their deaths. Bill is survived by his son, Gary Barth of Denver, Colorado; daughter, Jan and husband, David Esparza of Albuquerque; two grandchildren whom he adored - Jenna Esparza (17) and Matthew Esparza (11). His sister, Miriam Barth-Hyde of Snohomish, Washington and numerous nieces and nephews throughout Washington and California. Additional extended survivors are Libby and Norm Sinnott and Lillian Coleman of Fremont, California. We must mention his loving poodle"Lacy" and Scottie"Robbie" are also survivors who brought him many happy moments in his final years. The family would like to thank so many of you in the medical community that made such a profound different in the quality of Bill's life. A special"thank you" to Stephen Abram MD (UNM pain management), Carolyn Voss MD, St. Joseph Rehab Hospital physicians and staff, all the staff at Manzano del Sol, Karrington of Albuquerque and Sandia Hospice Pavilion. Your caring words and genuine compassion truly made a difference. Dad, your spirit to survive will always be with us. We will always remember your beautiful smile and your precious"winks". Menapace -- Marion V. Menapace. Longtime northern New Mexico pioneer, Marion V. Menapace, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, in Perryton, Texas. Marion and her husband, Joe"Junior" Menapace, spent most of their lives in Roy, Springer and Maxwell, New Mexico. After Joe's death in 1982, Marion moved to Albuquerque and then on to Perryton, Texas. Marion was born December 14, 1921 in Columbine, Colorado to Lawrence and Emma Ayer. The family moved to Cimarron, New Mexico in the early 1920s where her father ran the Phillips Ranch (now known as Philmont), later moving to Roy. Marion graduated and married in Roy.The only time they lived away was during World War II when they were in California, returning just after the war. The Menapaces owned and operated Joe's Place in Roy, Club 85 in Springer and Lake 9 in Maxwell. They took an active interest in their home towns and were known for their generosity and"the couple to turn to" when someone was having a hard time. Marion loved children and opened her home to several nephews over the years. Marion was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a brother, Morris; and a sister, Ruth; She is survived by her son, Larry and Gwen Menapace of Albuquerque; granddaughters, Sherry and Gordon Beagle of Perryton and Joni Blackwell of Bakersfield, California; great-granddaughter, Amanda "Light of her life" Davis of Perryton; and numerous nephews and nieces plus countless friends. The family will be at the Roy Senior Center from noon until 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, with services following at 2:00 p.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Roy. Burial will follow at the Roy Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the New Mexico Boys Ranch in Belen, New Mexico are appreciated.

Brinegar -- Warren B. Brinegar, 82, lifelong resident of New Mexico, born in La Luz, died Monday, March 18, 2002 in Albuquerque. He is survived by his wife, Helen; sons, Paul, Michael and wife, Keri, and Boyd, all of Albuquerque, and Steven of Washington, DC. Warren served as belly gunner in the Army Air Corps in WWII. He taught instrumental music for one year in Springer and many years in Santa Fe in the public schools. Memorial services will be held Friday, March 22, 2002, 1:00 p.m., at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 144 Carlisle Blvd. NE. Saxton -- Hazel Beth Jones Saxton, 84, of Leawood, KS, passed away February 28, 2002, at her home. Cremation. A Memorial Service will be held in New Mexico at a later date. Hazel is survived by her children, daughter, Cheryl Lormor and son-in-law, Gordon Lormor of Leawood, Kansas, son, David Saxton of Albuquerque, New Mexico, son, Daniel Saxton and daughter-in-law, Mary McInerny of White Rock, New Mexico; her grandchildren, Sean Lormor of Leawood, Kansas, Josiah Saxton of Cedar City, Utah, Lynn Saxton, Michael Saxton, and Rosemary Saxton of White Rock, New Mexico; a great-granddaughter, Auria Jade Saxton of Cedar City, Utah; brothers, Charles B. Jones of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and L.D. Jones of Amarillo, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Rachel, Velma, and Gracie Jones; brothers, Herman and Howard Jones; sisters-in-law, Juanita, Dorothy, and Addie B. Jones. Hazel was born September 27, 1917 in Reed, Oklahoma to Lester D. and Nancy Barnes Jones. She was married to Lynn A. Saxton for 37 years before he preceded her in death, July 27, 1979. She and Lynn met while serving in the US Army Medical Corp during WWII where she was a RN and Lynn was a medic and lab technician. Hazel retired from nursing to raise their children. Lynn's assignments took them to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where their youngest son Daniel was born. They found their home in New Mexico when they were assigned to Sandia Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where they spent most of their lives. When Lynn retired from the US Army and then the University of New Mexico Medical School, where he was Director of Laboratory Sciences, they made their home in Springer, New Mexico. In December 1995, she came to Kansas to make her home with her daughter and son-in-law. Hazel will be remembered for her sense of humor, open heart and door, and for all her many longtime friends. She enjoyed afternoon card games, letters from friends, and especially fishing. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She will be remembered with a smile.

Storey -- James (Jim) Storey, a lifelong resident of New Mexico died on Sunday, March 3, 2002, at Memorial Medical Hospital in Las Cruces, New Mexico, after a courageous battle with cancer. Jim was a graduate of Belen High School and New Mexico State University. He was employed by the State of New Mexico for 27 years until his retirement in 1996, when he returned to Las Cruces. Jim will be remembered for his freindly and outgoing personality. He will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nestor and Antonia Storey; and his brothers, Gilford and Pat Storey. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Louise Storey of the family home; two sons, Kirk Storey and wife, Karoline of Las Cruces and Craig Storey of Springer New Mexico; two daughters, Rene Shinn and husband, Art of Pueblo, Colorado and Regina Gallegos and husband, James of San Juan, New Mexico; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Other survivors include his brothers, Charles Storey and wife, Sylvia, of Bosque, New Mexico, and Kenneth and Anthony Storey of Belen, New Mexico; two sisters, Frances Morrow and husband, Bill, and Susan Castillo and husband, Max, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on March 7, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel at Graham Funeral Home in Las Cruces with graveside services following at Masonic Cemetary. Pallbearers will be Anthony Storey, Dennis Storey, Roy Storey, Vincent Storey, Gil Storey and Derick Castillo.
