Antal -- Joseph Antal, 73, beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather died early Saturday morning, August 3, in his home. Joseph was born in Yugosolvia and came to the United States in 1956. He is preceded in death by his brothers George Antal of Albuquerque and Johnny Antal of Slovania. He is survived by his wife, Madeline; his brother, Albert and wife, Gerda; his children, Heidi and husband, Ray, Karin and Gary and wife, Sara; his step-children, Fabrienne and husband, Jerome, Millicent, Greg and Erick; and grandchildren, Gunnar, Ivan, Adrian, Michael and Todd. Cremation has taken place at Vista Verde Mortuary and there was a private memorial service for family and close freinds held on Monday morning.

Cassidy -- Patricia"Pat" Cassidy, 69, a resident of Albuquerque since 1962, died Wednesday, July 31, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Ed Cassidy of Albuquerque; brothers-in-law and their wives, Joe and Joanne Cassidy of Gurnee, IL, Gerald and Helen Cassidy of Round Lake, IL, Henry and Susan Cassidy of Arlington, VA, Thomas and Nancy Cassidy of Geneva, IL and Paul Cassidy of Aurora, IL; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and best friend of 40 years, Jacqueline Rolfe of Los Lunas, NM. She was preceded in death by her son, Steven Cassidy; and her brother, Thomas G. Howard. Pat graduated from Beloit College with a degree in speech and English. She was the third woman County Commissioner for Bernalillo County from 1985 through 1992. She was known as"the lady with the hat." Pat's proud accomplishments as Bernalillo County Commissioner included securing the funding to make Tramway a 4-lane highway from the city limits to the Sandia Reservation. Pat also reached the first agreement with the Department of the Interior over the ownership and use of the west face of the Sandias. Pat was the only two term president of the New Mexico Association of Counties and successfully gained acceptance for their Workers Compensation Insurance Pool. She was a board member of the National Association of Counties, member of AFT, Kiwanis, League of Woman Voters, American Association of University Women, Eucharistic Minister at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, Central Committee member of the Bernalillo County and State of New Mexico Republican Party and a member of the New Mexico Alliance for the Mentally Ill. She taught high school speech and produced junior and senior plays at Antioch High in Antioch, IL. Pat taught in the alternative high schools in Albuquerque, assisted at Queen of Heaven Catholic School Library and was involved with parent activities at St. Pius High School when their son was a student. For many years, she was a secretary of the Tuesday Foursome bowling team at Fiesta Lanes. She was a longtime advocate of equality for women. As a teacher in the 1950's, she questioned pay policies that gave male teachers additional salary based on their number of children. As a republican party activist, she led the effort to change the state party rules to require that at least half the delegates to national conventions be women. The rule change failed to pass but all subsequent delegations from New Mexico have met this standard. As County Commissioner, she appointed qualified women to zoning and other boards whenever possible. Rosary will be recited Wednesday, 7:30 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE. Mass will be celebrated Thursday, 10:00 a.m., at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 5310 Claremont NE, with Father Johnny Lee Chavez, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jacquelyn Schaefer, Rosa Martinez, Nellie Montoya, Louise Davis, Clara Otero and Susan Noftsker. Honorary pallbearer will be Donna K. Smith. Cole -- Mr. John Wesley Cole, Jr., a resident of Albuquerque since 1933, ended his earthly journey on Friday, August 2, 2002. John was born January 12, 1914 in Kansas City, Kansas, the youngest of three children of John Wesley Cole, Sr. and Elizabeth Williams Cole Wagner. John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth; stepfather, Ernest Wagner; son, Ernest Wesley Cole; sisters, Frances Cole, Vivian Ballew; and brother in law, Charles Ballew. During John's earthly life, he enjoyed reading and discussing the Holy Bible and his mind remained sharp and alert. John was a retired Santa Fe Railroad employee who kept up with current events, believed in holistic medicine, contributed to charities and enjoyed fishing. He was a jazz enthusiast who talked about the late John Lewis and the Modern Jazz Quartet, and Count Basie. John played tennis in his younger days and was proud of his cooking skills. John accepted Christ in his later years and Elder John L. Pearson of Calvary Apostolic Temple in Albuquerque became his pastor. John W. Cole leaves to cherish his memory, his daughters, Astuti Abukusumo, Roswell, New Mexico; Juanita Jefferson, Atlanta, Georgia; daughter-in-law, Begonia Cole, San Antonio, Texas, son-in-law , Rev. Crosby -- Robert G. Crosby (Bob) 67, a long-time resident of Albuquerque, passed away Monday, August 05, 2002 after a long and valiant battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; two daughters, Janet and husband, Johnny Lindell of Arlington, TX, Susan and husband, Rod Diethrich of Edmond, OK; two brothers, Steve Crosby and wife, Evelyn, Robert Mellon and wife, Julie; and sister, Mary Draper. He also leaves five grandchildren, Cassandra, Brett, Allen, Lyndsea and Jeremy and wife Darla; and great-grandchildren, Tomorrow, Tristan and Jaxson. Robert was preceded by two daughters and one son. Bob retired in January 2000 after 45 years with ABF Freight Systems. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Chris of Latter-day Saints where he served as teacher, Bishop's councilor, mission leader, and a member of the Stake High Council. Bob was an ordinance worker in the Albuquerque Temple at the time of his death. Politically active, he was concerned and always expected integrity from public servants. Bob was a friend to all and will be missed by all whose lives he touched. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 12701 Indian School Rd. NE. Di Guiseppi -- Di Michael"Mike" Di Guiseppi, 79, a native of Rochester, New York, and a resident of Albuquerque since 1947, died Friday, August 2, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Claudine, and daughter, Debra Erekson, both of Albuquerque. Other surviving members include, sisters, Rose Barbaro husband, Frank, Joanne Fiorina and husband, Sam of Rochester, NY; sister-in-law, Marie Di Guiseppi as well as numerous nieces and nephews, all of Rochester, New York, and many beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Pasquale, and his mother, Angeline, his sisters, Mary, Katie, and Margaret, and most recently by his brother Jerry, all from Rochester, New York. Michael was born in 1923, and attended East Rochester Elementary and High School, graduating in 1941. He enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1944 to 1949. He trained at Ft. Benning, Georgia, and was stationed in England in 1944, serving in combat during World War II in Belgium and Germany, until 1945, where he was awarded several decorations, including three Bronze Stars. Michael was then stationed in France from 1945 to 1946. After returning to the USA, Michael was stationed at Los Alamos National Laboratories 1946 to 1947, and Sandia Base from 1947 to 1949. From 1949 to 1950, Michael worked for the Atomic Energy Commission, (now Dept. of Energy) and from 1950 to 1980 with the Defense Nuclear Agency. He attended the University of New Mexico and the College of St. Joseph's on the Rio Grande. After retirement, Michael owned and operated Natural Accents Floral Design, and did oil paintings depicting Northern New Mexico scenes. He was a devout member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, August 6, 2002, 9:30 a.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1818 Coal Pl. SE. Burial will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Animal Humane Association of New Mexico inc., 615 Virginia S.E. 87108. Michaels love of animals and life was unending. Drozdick -- William, 60, a retiree of Sandia National Labs, passed away in Las Vegas, NV on July 22, 2002. Encinias -- Phyllis (Mena) Encinias, age 83, and a resident of Albuquerque for 39 years died Sunday, August 4, 2002 in a local hospital following an illness. Mrs. Encinias is survived by two sons, Alex Encinias and his wife, Libby of Albuquerque, and Danny Encinias and his wife, Gloria of Albuquerque; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Encinias was preceded in death by her husband, Pedro Encinias and her brother, Jim Padilla. She was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church and the Blue Army. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, August 6, 2002 at 9:00 a.m. in Holy Ghost Catholic Church with Fr. Roberto Fenzl celebrant. Eno -- Richard L. Eno, 71, a resident of Albuquerque since 1956, died peacefully on Friday, August 2, 2002 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter, Nancy Murray and husband, Stuart, all of Albuquerque; son, Randy and wife, Cindy of Wichita, Kansas; and grandchildren, Kate and Kevin Murray and Jordan, Kyle and Gregory Eno. He was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Eno. Dick was born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska. Following three years of service in the U.S. Air Force, he graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1956 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He joined Sandia Laboratories in Albuquerque in 1956, retiring from a distinguished career there in 1992. During his career at Sandia, Dick was involved in a number of projects. He considered his efforts with Sandia's various rocket programs as his most rewarding work. He loved flying, camping, fishing, Indy car racing and being with his family. Following his retirement Dick and Betty traveled extensively in their motor home, spending the fall and winter months in Port Isabel, Texas. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 6901 Wyoming Blvd NE. Francis -- Norton Lewis Francis, M.D., died on August 1, 2002. Born in Bancroft, Nebraska on March 21, 1910, he received his BA and MD degrees from the University of Nebraska and did his residency at the University of Iowa Medical School, after which he joined the Navy serving in the South Pacific from 1943 to 1946. He practiced medicine as an ear, nose and throat specialist in Wichita, Kansas and made house calls until 1980, when he retired. Norton was President of the Sedgwick County and Kansas Medical Society. Active in community affairs, he and his wife were founding members of the East Heights Methodist Church in Wichita. He moved to Albuquerque in 1991. Norton was a member of the Masons, the Shrine and the Central United Methodist Church. He was devoted to his wife Geraldine, who died in 1995. He is survived by their four children, Douglas T. Francis and his wife, Nancy, of Albuquerque, NM; Stuart N. Francis and wife, Debbie, of Colorado Springs, CO; Janet M. Swinton and husband, Spencer, of Wilmington, NC; and Susan K. Smith and husband, Allen, of Albuquerque, NM. Twelve grandchildren, (Tyler, Hartwell and Norton Francis; Ashley Rice; Tracee and Kylan Francis; Jennifer, Naomi and Daniel Swinton; Lisa, Matthew and Andrew Smith.) and two great-grandchildren, (Safia and Broadus). He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by the entire family. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 6th, 2002 at the Central United Methodist Church, 1615 Copper Avenue N.E., Albuquerque, NM, 87106. Garcia -- Mr. Salomon Garcia, 78, a resident of Albuquerque passed away peacefully at home in the arms of his loving family on August 4, 2002. Mr. Garcia is the beloved husband of 47 years to Mrs. Dulcie Garcia. Mr. Garcia is also survived by his four daughters, Dolores Valdez and husband, Juanito, Kathy Briones and husband, Dave, Leslie Andujo and husband, Hector, Bernice Silva and husband, Larry; two sons, Norrie Garcia and wife, Debbie, George Garcia and wife, Sharie; two sisters, Dominica Archunde, Beatrice Apodaca and husband, Eloy; one brother, Augustine Garcia; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Garcia was a member of the Catholic Church. A visitation will be Wednesday evening after 6:00 p.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Waldo Garcia. A final visitation will be Thursday morning from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Seboyeta, N.M. with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. by Father Lorenzo. Hazen -- Arthur G. Hazen, Jr. died at his home in Escondido, California on June 26, 2002. He was born in Mosquero, New Mexico on September 21, 1922 to Arthur G. Hazen Sr., and Cora Moore Hazen. He attended school there until his graduation from high school in 1941. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Leone Hazen Seidel of Springer, NM and Glenna Hazen Green of Springer, NM and also two sisters, Cora Shirley Hazen and Patsy Jo Hazen who died in early childhood during a measles epidemic. After high school, he worked for the Farm Credit in Wichita, Kansas, and also enjoyed being a rodeo bull rider. His attendance at UNM in Albuquerque on a basketball scholarship was interrupted when he enlisted in the Army during World War II. Initially, he served in the African-Middle Eastern campaign, and then went into France with the Normandy invasion. The itinerary of his AAA Group with VII Corps shows that from a foxhole on Utah Beach on D-Day, until V-E Day, that the unit marched 1359 miles across France, Belgium and Germany. He suffered serious medical problems while wintering at the Battle of the Bulge. However, he then was attached to any Army Unit that continued into Germany and were initial liberators of two concentration camps. After the war, he married Doris Roberts and settled in Albuquerque to rear their six children. He pursued a career in sales, eventually moving to California in 1968. In California, he became a cattle rancher and horse trainer. He also became an avid square dancer, and it was at a dance in 1974 that he met his current wife, Patricia, of Escondido. He spent 17 years as a Park Ranger at Dixon Lake for the City of Escondido. During that time, he and his wife, Patricia took in 126 foster children."Grandpa" always tried to instill positive virtues and good behavior in his foster kids, realizing that he might be their most important family at that time. He was a devoted father to his own children, and a loving grandfather to 30 natural grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He enjoyed sharing treasures from his desk with the young ones, teaching of his life. He will be best remembered for his depression-era love of all small possessions and the World War II-era value he placed on each and every day of life. Johnson -- Wayne"Red" Lee Johnson, 58 passed away Friday August 2, 2002. He was born March 25, 1944 in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Wayne is survived by his wife, Ramona; daughters, Charlene and Ammie; son, Wesley and sister, Mavis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin (Ole) and Gyda Johnson. Wayne attended the NM School for the Deaf, and learned the meat-cutter trade in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He retired from Smiths after 35 years as a meat-cutter. Kissock -- Margaret F. Kissock, 72, a resident of Albuquerque since 1952, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 4, 2002, after a long battle with emphysema. She is survived by her daughter, Shelly Carabajal and husband, Ramon; son, Gary Kissock and wife, Pamela; and grandchildren, Stephen and Laura Kissock and Yvonne and Ramon Quezada. She is also survived by her sisters, Madeline Fiore and husband, Mike, Marion Hirschma and husband, Carl; niece, Kristin Kissock and husband, Russ Hatfield; and several other nieces and nephews. Mrs. Kissock was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Kissock on October 12, 1990. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be missed by the entire family. Margaret was born in Newton Falls, NY and came to Albuquerque in the early 1950's with her husband who was stationed at Manzano Base. She was employed as an executive secretary at the large USF&G insurance firm. She was a member of the Albuquerque Insurance Women's Club. Prior to her retirement in the late 1980's, Margaret and her husband owned several race horses and enjoyed the horse racing industry immensely, as well as boating at Navajo Lake. After retirement, Margaret donated her time to the New Mexico State Agency on Aging Ombudsman Program overseeing nursing homes. Due to her efforts, patients were treated fairly and facilities were improved. She was a longtime member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Langston -- Lt. Commander John Lewis Langston, Retired USN passed away peacefully at the age of 74 on Sunday morning, August 4, 2002, at the Palliative Care Unit of the VA hospital in Albuquerque, NM. He was born in San Diego, CA on May 1, 1928. He graduated in 1950 from Los Angeles City College with an Associate of Arts Degree in Photography. He then went on to California State College at Los Angeles, and graduated in 1953 with a Bachelor of Arts in Government. Additional university work was completed in Aviation Safety at the University of Southern California, and in Library Technology at Leeward Community College, University of Hawaii. He enlisted in the Navy in 1946 as an Apprentice Seaman, and was commissioned in 1953. He was designated a Naval Aviator in 1956. He proudly served in the US Navy for 23 years achieving a WW II Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and numerous other commendations from the US Navy. He retired in October of 1971 with the rank of Lt. Commander. During his retirement he lived exclusively in Albuquerque, NM. He enjoyed world travel, live opera, theater and the company of his many friends. He was married in 1953 to Aileen Tribolet, and during their marriage of 22 years together, they had four children. John is survived by sons, Brian of Stockton, CA, Darrell of Edgewood, NM, Erin of Oklahoma City, OK; daughter, Chriseen Peay of Bristol, TN, and their spouses; nine grandchildren, Marissa, Daniel, Morgana, Benjamin, Victoria, Katie, Jonathan, Matthew and Elainna; brother, Robert Langston, of Kensington, CA. The family wishes to thank the many Doctors and staff of the VA Medical facility for their care over the years, in particular Dr. Janice Knoefil and the entire unit of Palliative care. Lucas -- Al Lucas, 74, a 67-year resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, August 4, 2002. He converted to Catholicism at an early age and deeply treasured his Catholic faith and family. Much of his life was filled with selfless and unassuming acts of giving. Mr. Lucas served in the Navy and graduate from the University of New Mexico. He was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church and Our Lady of Fatima Church and actively participated in the ministries of the parishes. He was active in the school board for St. Pius X High School and numerous community activities including volunteer work for St. Joseph Hospital and the Adult literacy program. Montoya -- Ysidra (Sidney) Ybarra Montoya, age 85, after a short illness, died on Sunday, August 4, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest (Tane) Montoya in 1991. She was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Church and the Barelas Community. She led a four generation membership in the American Legion Auxiliary, Otero-Garcia-Navarrete, Unit 72. Her membership in the 8 & 40 Salon 293, brought much joy to her life. Her love for politics instilled all her children and grandchildren the importance of being active citizens. She is survived by daughters, Gigi Baca, Cecilia Martinez and husband, Sam, Leo-Rita Navarrete and husband, Richard; sons, Ernie Montoya and wife, Janice, Frank Montoya, Phillip Montoya and wife, Patti, Tony Montoya and wife, Linda, and her special granddaughter and caretakers, Carla and Richard Segura and also, Amanda Segura, and Michelle Garcia and husband, Roger. Perrin -- Betty Young Perrin, 66, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away August 2nd, 2002 with her family by her side. She was born in Richmond, VA, April 19, 1936 and was a resident of Albuquerque since 1962. She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Norman E. Perrin Sr. and her four devoted children, sons, Rocky and wife, Kim, Jimmy, Jeff, daughter, Mary and husband, David Young and grandchildren, Erik Perrin, David and Kaitlin Young, all of Albuquerque. Betty was employed by Mountain Bell from 1971-1983. She will be missed by many friends including Irene Brogdon, Jim and Georgia Owens and Laura Majcher. Betty was a very vivacious person often referred to as a small package of dynamite. She loved playing softball, gardening and spending time with family and friends, and also she was involved with Cub Scouting for many years. She loved helping others. Her caring ways and infectious laugh will live on forever in our hearts. The family would like to thank the staff at Kaseman Presbyterian Hospital for their loving care. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Aspen Funeral Alternatives Chapel, 1935 Juan Tabo NE, on Wednesday August 7, at 3:00 p.m. (323-9000).

Ransom -- Richard Ray Ransom, 68, of Edgewood, NM, died at home Saturday, August 3, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Edgewood, NM; son, Philip L. Ransom and wife, Brenda (Hettinga) of Genesee Depot, WI; daughters, Yvonna K. Green and husband, Robin of Lubec, ME and Jonell Sheppard and husband, Richard Jr. of Gowen, MI; nine grandchildren; brothers, Ira T. Ransom and wife, Eleanor (Heskett) of Brigham City, UT, Jack L. Ransom and wife, Wanda (Mick) of Littleton, CO, and Jerry D. Ransom and wife, Sherry (Bowman) of Madison, WI; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray T. and Eva H. Ransom; sisters, Phyllis Irene and Thelma Fern. Richard was born September 22, 1933 in rural Champion, NE, the son of Ray Theodore Ransom and Eva Hiatt Ransom. He graduated from Imperial High School, Imperial, NE, in 1951. Richard accepted Christ as his personal Savior on August 7, 1944. He graduated from Rocky Mountain Bible Institute in Denver, CO in 1955, and was ordained to the gospel ministry on January 3,1956 in Denver, CO. On November 5, 1955, he married Shirley Lavon Jones of Santa Fe at the Church of the Open Door in Denver, CO. He began his ministry as a missionary with the American Sunday School Union in the Nebraska panhandle (1956-1961). He pastored Snyder Bible Church, Snyder, CO (1961-1963); Aurora Bible Church, Aurora, CO (1963-1969); Tallin Union Church, rural Arnold NE (1969-1971) and Calvary Baptist Church, Meeker, CO (1971-1974). He taught Bible and Pastoral Studies at Frontier School of the Bible, LaGrange, WY (1974-1977). His next pastorate was St. Lawrence Community Church, St. Lawrence, SD (1977-1988). From 1988-1995, he pastored Hillcrest Bible Church in Edgewood, NM, then Berean Baptist Church, Santa Fe, NM (1995-2002). He served on the board of Southwest Bible Church Mission. A member of IFCA International since the late 1960's, he most recently served as the president of the West Texas/New Mexico Regional of IFCA International. He loved children and gardening. An avid reader, he enjoyed collecting old books. He took delight in his children and grandchildren, cherished his lifelong friendships and enjoyed helping his neighbors. Ratliff -- ohn (Jack) D. Ratliff, 78, a native New Mexican and longtime resident of Albuquerque died unexpectedly at his home on the morning of Sunday, August 4, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Wynona Ratliff; daughters, Rebecca Glenn and husband, Mike, Deborah Mask and husband, Alan, Judith Hoffman and husband, Mitch, and Cassidy Burleson and husband, Dan; son , John D. Ratliff, Jr. and wife, Melody; grandchildren, Aaron and Stephanie, Cassidy and Jerry, Meagan, Brandon, Sarah, J.D., Nathan, Alex, Melissa, Houston, Dylan, and Nick; adopted grandchildren, Katrina and Rich Wright; and great-grandson, Lane Wright. He was preceded in death by his grandchildren, David and Rebecca Mask, and brother, Glen Ratliff. John was known to his friends as Jack and to his grandchildren as"Poppy". He was born in Floyd, NM on April 26, 1924 to rancher parents, Wilfred and Myrtle Ratliff. Jack graduated from Floyd High School in 1942. He attended SMU and graduated from ENMU with a degree in Political Science. He was called to the ministry while still in college and pastored Causey Baptist Church until he completed his degree. Jack married Wynona Haragan Ratliff, July 28, 1946. He attended Southern Seminary in Louisville, KY and pastored Nortonville Baptist Church. Jack and Wynona were appointed as Southern Baptist missionaries in 1952. They served in Honduras until 1959. They also served in Peru until 1967 where Jack pastored and taught at the Theological Seminary and was legal representative for missionaries. He and Wynona returned to New Mexico in 1967 where Jack worked with the New Mexico Baptist Convention. In 1969, he became Director of the NM Baptist Foundation and Church Loan Corporation until 1975. Jack and Wynona also served as volunteers in Columbia where Jack served as administrator of the Columbia Baptist Mission. In 1975, Jack and Wynona bought Sunset Mesa School. He and Wynona retired in 1998. He served on numerous boards, including New Mexico Boys and Girls Ranch, Trustee of the Foreign Mission Board, Eastern New Mexico University Regent, Board of NM Baptist Foundation and Church Loan Corporation. Jack was a Rotarian and a member of the Governor's Commission on higher education, along with numerous other boards. Services will be held Thursday, August 8, 2002, 10:00 a.m., at Sandia Baptist Church, 9425 Constitution Ave. NE, with Dr. Bob Butler officiating. Short -- Lee W. Short, 70, a resident of Albuquerque since 1954, died Monday, August 5, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Dee Short, of Cedar Crest; sister, Norma Harkness and husband, Lewis, of Huntsville AL and several nieces. Mr. Short was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph H. Short and Ruby L. Short and daughter, Martha Elizabeth. He was born in Vicksburg, MS and graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He worked for a few months for McDonnell Aircraft Corporation in St. Louis before being called up to the US Air Force at Kirtland AFB. After serving his time in the Air Force, he went to work at the Air Force Special Weapons Center at Kirtland AFB from which he retired in 1991. Since his retirement, he and Dee enjoyed traveling. Mr. Short also enjoyed hunting and welding as a hobby. He was a beloved husband, brother and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Steele -- Lena M. Rice Steele, age 74, of Albuquerque, NM, died on August 4, 2002. She was born August 26, 1927, and was preparing to celebrate her 75th birthday. Lena will be having that celebration with her beloved husband of 46 years, H.B."Huggy Bear" Steele who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her mother, Iona Sabra Rice; father, Richard French Rice; and all of her siblings, James, Dorothy, Thomas, Clyde, Beth, Kay, Irene and Joanne. Her daughter, Shauna Iona Steele of Albuquerque; her son, Scott B. Steele his wife, Noel King Steele; and granddaughter, Sabra Steele, all of Albuquerque survive their beloved mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother. Lena was like a second mother to her many nieces, nephews, and friends from across the country. Her family and friends will miss her exuberant spirit, her sense of play, and her courage. Lena was born in Kenova, West Virginia, and raised in Findlay, Ohio. She moved to Albuquerque with her family in 1973. A lifelong member of Trinity Baptist Church in Findlay, Lena faithfully attended Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque. Lena devoted her life to public service, retiring from Carrie Tingly Hospital after battling and surviving breast cancer in 1985. Lena was a staunch Democrat, and an avid lifelong sports enthusiast. She was the captain of the Findlay High School Trojan cheerleading squad, where she graduated in 1945. She played for years in the women's softball league, and was invited to play professionally. Her fast pitch was legendary. The Detroit Tigers and the Women's National Basketball Association lost a huge fan. At Lena's request, family and friends will gather at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE, for a graveside service on Thursday, August 8, 2002, at 10:00 a.m., with Susan Meredith of Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Darrol Lepper, Shane Riggs, Robbie Farris, Rick Decker, Jan Slaughterbeck, Jerrilyne Miller, and Debie Leeper-Baca. Walker -- Cecil J. Walker, 87, a resident of Albuquerque, first coming in 1941, passed away in his home among his loved ones, on Sunday, August 4, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Walker of Albuquerque; two daughters, Bonnie Essex of Dayton, OH and Judi Kil and husband, Pat of Albuquerque; five grandchildren, Barry and Brian Essex, Danny Hanley, Lori Renee Thomas and Corey Hanley; two brothers, Raymond F. Walker of Centerville, IA and Marion E. Walker and wife, Doris of Norco, CA; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob Hanley and Taylor Thomas. Mr. Walker came to Albuquerque in 1941 where he was stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base. He married Mary Elizabeth Kominsky on February 9, 1942 in Albuquerque, before moving to Carlsbad. In 1945, Mr. Walker was enrolled at the B-29 Flight Engineering Schools, both in Amarillo, TX and Hondo, TX and was also stationed at various New Mexico Air Force Bases. He served at Ladd Field in Alaska from 1947-1949 and then at Tachikawa Field in Japan from 1954-1957. Mr. Walker retired from the Air Force in 1971 while at Holloman AFB in Alamogordo. In 1984, the Walker moved back to Albuquerque. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing his guitar and spending time with his family. Services will be held Thursday, August 8, 2002, at 11:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Pat Kil, Barry Essex, Brian Essex, Corey Hanley, Ray Thomas and William Luther. Military honors will be provided by Kirtland Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to the Presbyterian Hospice Homecare, c/o Presbyterian HealthCare Foundation, PO Box 26666, 87125. French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE.

Wathen -- Nancy Loughran Wathen, 40, a resident of Rio Rancho, died Saturday, August 3, 2002. She is survived by her children, Autumn C. Wathen and Ryan M. Wathen of Rio Rancho, father, E. Dan Loughran of Albuquerque, brothers, Steven E. Loughran of Los Angeles and Glenn H. Loughran of Santa Fe; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother, Sarah C. Loughran. Nancy was a member of First United Methodist Church of Rio Rancho and Friends of the Rio Grande Nature Center. A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 8, at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of the Rio Rancho United Methodist Church, 1652 Abraso Rd. N.E. Weiler -- James Courtney Weiler, born June 27, 1952, in Burlington, Wisconsin to HJ"Doc" and Lena Weiler, died, peacefully at home on August 3, 2002. A resident of Albuquerque since 1960, he graduated from Manzano HS where he played baseball and went on to attend UNM. He was employed as a supervisor by Gerald Martin Construction. His buildings, shopping centers and schools will live on as a tribute to his memory. His family and his friends always had someone they could call on. Jim never met a stranger. He could tell a story like a master and enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, especially fishing. Jim leaves behind Dane, his best friend and loving wife whom he loved dearly; his stepson, Brent and their beloved canine kids, Ricky and Lucy. He was a devoted son to his parents, HJ"Doc" and Lena Weiler, and a loving brother to his sisters, Ann Rhoades and husband, Russ of Albuquerque, Caroline Harrington and husband, Gary of Las Cruces, Cindy Stehle and husband, Bill of Denver, CO, Elaine Geoghegan and husband, Joe of Scottsdale, AZ; his brother, Greg Weiler and wife, Mona of Rowlett, TX, and dearly loved his nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jeffrey. A memorial celebration will be held Wednesday, August 7, 2002, at 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Mass will be celebrated Thursday, August 8, 2002, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 1800 Martha NE. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Greg Weiler, Russ Rhoades, John Barnum, Bill Stohle, Joe Geoghegan, Gary Harrington, Warren Rathjen and James Robinson.
