Gomez -- Abelicio Gomez, a resident of Los Lunas, formally of Pueblitos, NM and Albuquerque, passed away at the age of 80 on Tuesday, October 22, 2002. Abelicio was the son of Nicanora Perelta Gomez and Ruperto Gomez. He was a member of the Catholic Church. He proudly served his country with the United States Army during WWII where he was honored with a Purple Heart. He then went on to serve his family. He retired from Sandia Base after 30 years of outstanding service. Abelicio was a great man, filled with laughter and love for his family. He hunted all his life until three years ago when he became ill. We will all miss him dearly. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Carmen Gomez; his six children, Rupert; Jerry; Victor and his wife, Inez; Cynthia; Diane Martinez; and Shirley Marks; three sisters, Nila Baca; Mary Gutierrez; and Helen Cordova; his 14 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. He is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews whom were a big part of his life. A viewing will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2002 from 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at Romero Funeral Home in Belen and on Sunday, October 27, 2002 at 4:00 p.m. with a Rosary following at 5:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Monday, October 28, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at 1:30pm at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. We love you Daddy and we will never forget you! Your Silliness will live on in all of us forever. Pallbearers will be Victor, Rupert, Abe, Christopher, Vicente Marks, and Robert Marquez. Tafoya -- Ana Mae"Honey" Tafoya, 73, a resident of Tijeras, NM, formally of Moriarty, NM, passed away Monday October 21, 2002, in Tijeras, NM. She was born February 6, 1929 to Luis and Clementina (Aranda) Trujillo, in San Antonito, NM. Mrs. Tafoya married Fred Tafoya May 5, 1960 in Albuquerque, NM, he survives her of thier home. Mrs. Tafoya was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Moriarty, NM. She enjoyed crocheting and doing puzzles. Other survivors include son Adelaido and wife, Alveria Quintana; step-son Alfred Tafoya; daughters Mary and husband, Ralph Martinez, Jane and Miguel Contreras, Louisa and Victor Gonzales, Bernadette and Pat Lovato; brother, Elfego and Tresa Trujillo; sisters, Maltelda Gonzales and Cecelia and Gene Torrez; 21 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. A Rosary will be recited Thursday, October 24, 2002, 7:00 p.m., and the Mass will be celebrated Friday, October 25, 2002, 10:00 a.m. both at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Moriarty, with Father Anthony Martinez. Burial will follow in the Martinez Cemetery south west of Edgewood, NM. Pallbearers will be Leroy Greer, Richard Greer, Richard Quintana, Johnny Ayala, Michael Trujillo and James Lovato Jr.. Honorary Pallbearers will be Timmy Gonzales, Jimmy Gallegos, Jerry Cordova, and Juanito Martinez. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty, NM 832-6130.

Sandoval -- Lee Sandoval, 85, went home to be with the Lord on October 18, 2002. A musician and retired welder from General Electric, Lee was born in Chilili, NM and lived most his life in Albuquerque. Preceded in death by his wife, Mela, Lee is survived by sons; Lee Sandoval Jr. and wife Louise, Patrick Sandoval and wife Melissa, Frank Cordova, Albert Cordova and wife, Rhonda; daughters, Yvonne Lara and husband, Jose, Geraldine Maes and husband, Arnold, Sandra Mendoza and husband, Larry; numerous grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2002 at the Living Waters Church, 7002 Acoma Road S.E., at 7:00 p.m. and will be officiated by Edward Montoya. Nevarez -- Quinn J. Nevarez, 35, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away suddenly on October 8, 2002. Quinn was born on March 13, 1967 in Germany to Jose and Dietlinde Egler Nevarez. He was a very loving and devoted husband and father. Quinn had attended St. Bernadette Catholic Church and recently became a member of Eastgate Church in Albuquerque. His favorite pastime was watching old western movies and spending time with his children. He was preceded in death by his brother, Victor Campbell. Quinn is survived by his beloved wife, Esther Nevarez of the family home; his precious children, Quinn, Jr., Jacob, and only daughter, Alina; his step-children, Frank Alire and wife, Virginia, Louis Alire, all of Albuquerque; his father, Jose Nevarez and Alicia of Albuquerque; mother, Dietlinde and husband, Alfred Reiss of Germany; grandson, Adrian; brothers, Anthony Nevarez and wife, Bernadette, Noel Nevarez, both of Albuquerque; step-brothers, Brian Campbell, Dirk Reiss; brothers-in-law, John, James, Jose, Ray; sisters-in-law, Shari, Linda, Lorraine, Denise; aunts, Sally Neal, Virginia Nevarez, Debbie Cordova, Gloria Nevarez, Ann Nevarez; uncles, Charlie Nevarez, Cruz Nevarez, Danny Nevarez, Ralph Neal, Frank Cordova; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews including his loving nieces, Vanessa and Melissa; very special friends, Andrew Valenzuela, David and Stephanie Savage, Co-Madre, Anna and Steve Encinias; and his canine companion, Scar. Valencia -- Prisca Valencia, age 84, and a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully September 27, 2002, with her family at her side. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Prisca was preceded in death by her husband, George Valencia and her daughter, Vangie Cordova. She is survived by her children Leroy Valencia and wife, Lupita, Corrine Marquez and husband, Bernie, George Valencia Jr. and wife, Geri, Dorothy Jiron and husband, Adolph, Rosie Sierra, Carol Serna, Irene Archuleta and Alfred Roybal, Jimmy Valencia and wife, Bertha, Peggy Valencia, Michael Valencia and wife, Veronica; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other family members and friends who loved and will miss her. Garcia -- Lucinda Garcia, age 88, beloved and devoted mother, grandmother, and sister was called home to be with the Lord our Savior, Thursday, September 26, 2002, while surrounded by her loving family. Lucinda was a resident of Albuquerque; and a parishioner of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Garcia; and a son, Benjamin Garcia. She is survived by her loving children, Raymond Garcia, Vivian Garcia and wife Nena, Orlando Garcia, Abie Garcia and wife Margaret, Mary Cordova and husband Jake, Cris Worrell, Cecilia Enriquez and husband Albert, and Rita Riboni; 17 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter. Also surviving are two sisters, Jesusita Garcia, Reyes Grigo; and many other relatives. Lucinda will be greatly missed by her loving family and by those who knew and loved her. Visitations will be Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary. A rosary will be recited Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. Mrs. Garcia was a member of the Catholic Church. Cardenas -- In loving memory of Maurice (Marcos) Cardenas, 28, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on September 8, 2002 as a result of a swimming accident. Marcos is the beloved son to Trini and Theresa Cardenas; beloved brother to two sisters, Antoinette and Angel and to one brother, Jacob. Marcos is also survived by his maternal grandparents, Wilfrido and Phyllis Cordova and Carmen Ortiz; special aunts and uncles, Willie, Barbara, Michael and Jeanette; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Marcos was a member of Victory Love Fellowship Church and was an avid runner and weight lifter. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him.
