Akutagawa -- Taro Akutagawa longtime resident and businessman of Albuquerque passed away while traveling in Nevada on June 7, 2002. Private Services for family were held June 17, 2002 in memory of Taro at the Buddhist Temple in West Los Angeles. Reverend Oda a respected friend presided over ceremonies and conducted Services for Taro and his family. Taro was born September 14, 1917 in Los Angeles, CA. Taro and Tazue were married April 7, 1953. Taro relocated to New Mexico where they built a place in the community and raised their family. Taro is survived by Tazue, his wife of 49 years; daughter, Keiko Lambert and husband, Jim; grandchildren, Kaitlin and Ryotaro; daughter, Denise Daly and husband, Tim; and grandchildren, Kyle and Shannon; sons, Yoshiro Akutagawa and Hugh Akutagawa. September 14, 2002 marks the 100th day Memorial as celebrated in Buddhist teachings. This commemorates a day to gather and express our gratitude and remembrance of a loved one; this also marks Taro's birth. His life and spirit has touched so many and will be remembered, we will miss him and love him always. A Memorial Dedication will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2002 at 3:30 p.m. in memory of Taro Akutagawa. His family welcomes friends and family to join in a memorial dedication of a pine tree and memorial bench. The service will be held at Arroyo Del Oso Golf Course, Osuna Rd. and Louisiana, on the 8th tee box.

Brandon -- Rebecca E. Brandon, 84, a resident of Albuquerque for seven years, died Sunday, September 8, 2002. She is survived by her son, Johnnie Brandon and wife, Barbara of Albuquerque; grandson, Howard Lee Brandon of Kokomo, IN; granddaughter, Kim McNeal of Albuquerque; great-granddaughter, Stephanie Brandon; great-grandson, Carlos Crockett, both of Albuquerque; and sister, Genny Ortega of Santa Fe. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date.

Campbell -- Miles Campbell of Albuquerque, age 46, died of cancer August 21, 2002. He is survived by mother, Diana Campbell of Cincinnati, OH; father, Robert Campbell of Prescott Valley, AZ; son, Abraham Campbell of Watsonville, CA; and sisters, Elizabeth Campbell of Navajo, NM and Janey Campbell of Albuquerque. Chilcote -- Nellie Louise Chilcote a resident of Albuquerque since 1941 passed away Saturday, August 31, 2002. She was born November 30, 1927 the daughter of John and Amanda Hughes of Greeley County, NE. Preceding her in death were her parents; her daughter, Laura L. Chilcote; and one sister, Agnes"Bill" Zimmerman of Socorro, NM. She is survived by one son, Leonard Ray Chilcote of Wisconsin; two sisters, Rhoda B. Tobler of Harvard, NE, and Ruth Powell of Clint, TX; three brothers, Edward D. Hughes of Albuquerque, B.C. (Pete) Hughes of San Acacia, NM and Howard D. Hughes of Capitan, NM; and also by many nieces, nephews and many friends. Graveside Services are scheduled fro Friday, September 13, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park in Albuquerque. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts in the name of Nellie Chilcote be made to the American Heart Assn., PO Box 90790, Abq, NM 87199-0790, or to a charity of choice. Ekenberg -- Robert E. Ekenberg, age 47, passed away on September 6, 2002 at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs. He was born on April 15, 1955 in Evanston, Illinois to Roland W. Ekenberg (deceased) and Martha Ekenberg of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He married his high school sweetheart, Dianne Lynn Mosman on May 3, 1975 and they spent 30 wonderful years together. He leaves to cherish his memories, two sons, Travis John, Nathan Michael; one daughter, Chelsey Jean; a daughter-in-law, Jackie Christine; and a future daughter-in-law, Alyssa Kristine Luebbert. Also, two brothers, Bill and Dan; and a sister, Ellen, survive him. Bob dedicated his working career to Western Warehouse out of Albuquerque for 21 years where he became a regional manager. Bob became an avid soccer fan watching his three children throughout their soccer careers. He loved biking, jogging, spending time in Estes Park, and fatherhood. He will be greatly missed and will be kept in our hearts forever. A special thank you to those who showed support to Bob during these hard times; especially the Oncology staff at Memorial Hospital and the friends and family that sent cards and letters that added support and laughter to his life.

Filsinger -- Lucille Blackledge Fossler Filsinger, daughter of Emerald and Florence Blackledge, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2002. She was born December 30, 1909 in Herbert, Illinois, and has been a resident of Albuquerque since 1947. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Fred J. Fossler, in 1980; by her second husband, Erwin Filsinger, in 1998; and by one sister; and four brothers. She was a secretary for the American Legion 1948-1974, and a member of the First Congregational Church. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra and husband, Don Tolmie of Los Alamos; granddaughter, Debbie and husband, Jeff Huling of Los Alamos; grandson, David Tolmie and wife, Margie of Madison, WI; and great-grandchildren, Sarah and Andrew Tolmie of Madison, WI. Glenn -- Nancy L. Glenn a truly loving and wonderful person passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 8, 2002. She was 52 years of age. Nancy was a lifelong Albuquerque resident, who graduated from Rio Grande High School in 1968. After high school, she went to work at Sandia Labs in 1970 where she served as a secretary until her passing. In her personal life, Nancy enjoyed nature and the outdoors. She had a love of lighthouses and collected memorabilia which she displayed throughout her home. Having a passion for music, she played both the flute and piano. As a true Christian, Nancy always put others first before herself. She will be survived by her husband of 31 years, Dickie Glenn; her only child, Jeremiah Glenn, her parents, Donald and Billye Bunten; two sisters, Sharon Boyd and Donna Bunten; and many other family members, friends and co-workers. Nancy was a kindred spirit who was loved and will be so dearly missed. She was truly an Angel on earth and will be in our thoughts, hearts and prayers forever. Maxwell -- Cheryl Ann Maxwell, 39, beloved daughter of Charles E. Maxwell and Maryann Pedercini Maxwell passed away August 20, 2002 following a lengthy illness, multiple sclerosis, of 20 years. Cheryl was born in Albuquerque on April 22, 1963, attended local schools and graduated from Eldorado High School in 1982. Cheryl loved nature and she was especially fond of cats, which were parallel to her nature of independence and devotion. She enjoyed the small pleasure of smoking cigarettes. As she said,"It's the only thing that I have left to show my independence." She touched the lives of all that knew her. A giving, caring and loving person, she had an unwavering faith to the Catholic Church. An unbreakable spirit, she endured many hardships in the past several years. Until the very end, the most valued possession in her life was her family and she will be greatly missed by those who love her so deeply and took care of her through the many very challenging times of her life. Cheryl was preceded in death by her father, Charles E. Maxwell in 1995. She is survived by her dear mother, Maryann Maxwell; devoted father figure, Robert Huff of Rio Rancho, NM; understanding and supportive brother, Steven Maxwell and unselfishly dedicated sister-in-law, Kelly of Plano, TX; understanding and supportive brother, Glenn Maxwell and wife, Gale of Rio Rancho, NM; sister, Julie Ponce and husband, Roger of Chandler, AZ; niece, Marissa Maxwell; nephews, Adam Jacobs, Mitchell Maxwell and Evan Ponce. Romero -- Jose Jeffie Romero 77, a resident of Albuquerque passed away peacefully at home in the arms of his loving family on September 7, 2002. Mr. Romero is survived by his five daughters, Helen Gutierrez and husband, John, Lupe Romero-Roberts and husband, Cristobal, Dora Jean Romero, Irene Romero, Gina Gutierrez and husband, Juan; three sons, Jeffrey G. Romero and wife, Cindy, Reynaldo Romero Marquez and Lorenzo Romero Marquez; one sister, Lola Chavez; one brother, Trinidad Romero and wife, Cathy of Barstow, CA.; a special niece, Sofie Chavez; a special nurse, Marveline Thompson; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Romero was a member of the Catholic Church and a Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in World War II. Rutledge -- Rosemary Rutledge, 46, quietly ended a courageous two-year long battle with breast cancer on September 9, 2002. Rosemary is preceded in death by her mother, Edy Schmidt, who also succumbed to her own battle with cancer in 1994. Rosemary is survived by Kyle Rutledge, her lifelong companion and father of their two daughters, Adrianne and Teryn Rutledge. She is also survived by the following family members, father, Willard H. Schmidt; brothers, Will Schmidt, Jr., Tom Schmidt and wife, Joi, all of Albuquerque; sisters, Teri Richardson and husband, Dan, of Glastonbury, CT and Cindy Maxwell and husband, Chris, of Albuquerque; nephews, Samuel Sandoval, Justin and Ryan Richardson, and Harrison Schmidt; niece, Antoinette Sandoval; In-laws R.R. and Joy Rutledge; brothers-in-law, Rusty Rutledge, Jr., Bart Rutledge and wife, Deneen, all of Albuquerque; nephews, Rusty Rutledge III, and Brandon Rutledge; nieces, Sharlyn Rutledge, Rachel and Julia Rutledge. Rosemary Rutledge was born in Ft. Worth, Texas on April 6, 1956 and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The eldest of five children, Rosemary graduated from Eldorado High School in 1974, immediately thereafter began her career in new home construction where she was employed by R.R. Rutledge at Rutledge Investment Co. The extensive knowledge Rosemary gained over the past 28 years has been built from the sound fundamentals of business and construction detail instilled by her mentor, R.R. Rutledge. Starting as the receptionist, progressing to bookkeeper then comptroller of the company enabled Rosemary to learn the business from the ground floor up. Rosemary earned her General Contractors License in 1994 and with her background knowledge in construction became one of Albuquerque's finest award winning women Custom Home Builders. In 2001, Rosemary directed her focus on Albuquerque's re-sale home market and joined Keller Williams Realty and became an active member of the Albuquerque Board of Realtors. Rosemary was a woman of many talents and outside interests. Aside from winning Interior Home Design Awards, she was very competitive in the Cutting Horse arena where she won numerous competitions. She was an enthusiastic big game hunter, who found excitement on African Safaris and in and around New Mexico. These awards are indicative of the hard work and dedication she displayed in everything she did. However, by far the sweetest rewards in Rosemary's life were her two daughters, Adrianne and Teryn. Rosemary was a devoted mother who encouraged her girls to strive for excellence. She participated in their many activities with loving encouragement, constantly instilling self-confidence and sportsmanship. A stunning brunette, Rosemary possessed a sense of grace and confidence, and loved to"let her hair down" by playing billiards, traveling, shopping, and enjoying time with family and friends. She was the only woman who could get away with pitchin' horseshoes in high heels. One can't help but feel that her life was cut too short, It doesn't seem fair. One can't deny the difference she made In each of the lives she touched, She really cared. One can't deny she will live Forever in our hearts. She's still there.Services will be held Thursday, September 12, 2002, 11:00 a.m., at First Family Church, 4701 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with Pastor Galen M. Woodward officiating. Karen will be walking 60 miles in honor of Rosemary and her courageous fight with breast cancer. Sackett -- Chesterine T. Sackett, 79, died September 7, 2002 after a yearlong fight with cancer and recent stroke. Born July 20, 1923 in Milwaukee, WI, one of five children. She worked for the Federal Government for over 30 years. She was a devoted Catholic and member of the Church of the Risen Savior in Albuquerque where she was a resident for 30 years. She is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, James D. Sackett Jr.; three children survive her, Patricia Mankins and her husband, Mark of Bosque Farms, Michael Sackett and his wife, Valerie of Albuquerque, and Kathleen DeShazo and her husband, Mark also of Albuquerque; ten grandchildren, David James Mankins, Jennifer Lee Chavez and husband, Isaac, Rebecca Sue Mankins, Brandon James Sackett of Dallas, TX, step-granddaughters, Whitney Lynne Waters of Albuquerque Brandi Delynn DeShazo, Jacquelyn Marie DeShazo of Stella, MO, Christopher Joseph Thomas of Las Vegas, NV, Stephen Daniel DeShazo, and Jake Matthew DeShazo of Albuquerque. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. She touched many lives in her years with us and will be missed by all who knew her. A Memorial Service will be held at the Church of the Risen Savior on Thursday, September 12, 2002 at 6:15 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society in her name. Shea -- Gertrude Shea, 85, a resident of Albuquerque since 1951 and the Grand Court for the past ten years, passed away on September 10, 2002. She is survived by her son, Terry Shea and wife, Rosemary of Novato, CA; granddaughters, Caesarine Cordon and husband, Juan of Palo Alto, CA and Bridget Shea of Novato, CA; sister, Rita Haasken of Chicago, IL; and niece, Christine Bittner and husband, Bob of Albuquerque. She enjoyed watching movies with her husband, Edwin and doing her crafts. She is preceded in death by a very special aunt, Jonny Aragon. Stryker -- Roy T."Buck" Stryker, 85, a resident of Albuquerque died Tuesday, September 10, 2002. He was born December 23, 1916 in Goree, TX. His family moved to Lubbock, TX where he graduated from Lubbock High School, Class of 1933, and then attended Texas Tech. He married Rubey Jean McLaughlin of Amarillo, TX on September 1, 1940. He served as a B-17 pilot in the Army Air Corps during WWII. Upon returning from England, Buck and his brother, Lee, opened their first store in Albuquerque, Stryker Brothers. In 1952, he opened Stryco Sales, a wholesale floor-covering warehouse. Buck was a member of Central United Methodist Church since 1948. He was also a former member of the Albuquerque Country Club. Golf and fishing were two of his favorite pastimes. He is survived by his wife, Rubey Stryker of Albuquerque; nephews and nieces, Gerald Stryker and wife, Shirley and their three children, JoAnn Grandle and husband, Robert and their three children, Barbara Harrison and husband, Harold and their two children, all of Las Cruces, Karan Kennedy and husband, Barry and their daughter of Grapevine, TX, Patricia Stryker of Las Cruces, Frank McLaughlin and wife, Pat and their two children of Dallas, TX, Peggy Martin and husband, Bill and their two children of Corrales, Leslie Bradley and husband, Richard and their five children of Fairfax, VA, Patricia Thomas and husband, Ike and their two children of Granbury, TX, and Karen Frist and husband, Bill and three children, of Nashville, TN; and many friends. Services will be held Thursday, September 12, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with Dr. Charles Crutchfield officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery.

Vander Veur -- Vander Harry Fredrik Vander Veur, 83, a resident of Albuquerque for two years and a former resident of Sheridan, Wyoming, died Sunday, September 8, 2002. He is survived by his daughters, Reinje Corbet and husband, Paul of Salt Lake City, UT, Maria Osborn and husband, Carolus M. of Albuquerque, Johanna Rogers and husband, William of Anaheim, CA and Paulina Lund and husband, Gerald of Sheridan, WY; 14 grandchildren; over 30 great-grandchildren; sister, Feikina Schipaanboord and husband, Jack; and brother, Henry Vander Veur and wife, Ann, all of Salt Lake City, UT. Graveside services will be held Thursday, 3:00 p.m., at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE, with Bishop Scott Thurgood presiding. Warwick -- William A.J. Warwick, 44, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque died Monday, September 9, 2002. He is survived by his mother, Shelley M. Thommarson of Albuquerque; sisters, Josephine A. Blasi and husband, Tony of Portland, OR, Therese A. Sackreiter and husband, Harry of Clovis, NM and Patricia A. Vreeke and husband, John of Albuquerque; and 13 nieces and nephews. William was an active member of Civitan, and he enjoyed volunteering for many different groups. Rosary will be recited Thursday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Deacon Manuel Facio reciting.
