MOREJON -- Carlota Marta "Mamita" Morejon, 86, a resident of Albuquerque, died on Wednesday, November 24, 2004. She is survived by her daughters, Sara Sanchez and Marta Boydston and husband, Keith, all of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Jody Steele and husband, John of Mt. Pleasant, SC; grandson, Bryan Boydston of Albuquerque; great-granddaughter, Ella Steele; and niece, Lisette Lozano and husband, Frank of Davie, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fabio Morejon, her parents, Calixto Augustin Laurent and Estela Primitiva Rojas and her brother ,Ramon Laurent. Carlota was born in Havana, Cuba, November 4, 1918. She met and married Fabio Morejon on October 7, 1944. Their two daughters were born there. Carlota and Fabio owned and operated a coffee distributing company, Monte Ruz, in Cuba. They sent their daughters to the United States on the Peter Pan Flights operated by Catholic Charities and in December of 1965 followed them to Albuquerque. They operated and owned Morejon Upholstery. Carlota was very active in the Cuban community. Her forte was cooking and sewing. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Friends may visit French Mortuary, Lomas Chapel, Sunday, November 28, 2004 from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Services will be held at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd., on Monday, November 29, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menual NE. QUINTANA -- John Quintana, age 85, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, was called home by our Heavenly Father, Wednesday, November 24, 2004. John was born in Costilla, NM; and was a resident of Taos, NM currently living in Rio Rancho. John enjoyed dancing and was a member of Los Bailadores del Norte Dance Group; he authored stories in La Herencia Magazine; he participated in the Senior Olympics; and was a great community leader. He was preceded in death by his parents, Filiberto and Sara Quintana. John is survived by his loving wife, Cecilia Maria Quintana formerly of Taos, NM; his children, Ann Lucero and husband, Richard of Alameda, NM, Orlando Quintana and wife, Rose of Taos, Rosemarie Padilla and husband, Robert of Corrales, NM, John Quintana, Jr. of Taos, Joyce Quintana of Rio Rancho, Celestina Quintana of Taos, David Quintana of Santa Teresa, NM, and Petra Quintana and David Rael of Taos; 24 grandchildren; and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters, Alice Alire of Denver, CO, Stella Reynolds and husband, Bud of Sacramento, CA, Agatha Jacobs of Lompoc, CA, Don Quintana and wife, Nettie of Brighton, CO, Anita Harrel of Denver, CO, Bert Quintana and wife, Bernice of Costilla, NM and Mae Gonzalez and husband, Jim of Denver, CO; numerous nieces, nephews, and other beloved family members and friends. John will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends. Visitations will be Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 9502 4th Street NW, in Albuquerque; followed by a Rosary at 4:00 p.m. also at the church. Final viewing will be Monday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 9:00 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. RICHARDSON -- Elizabeth (Betty) A. Richardson joined the love of her life, William (Bill) on Friday, November 26, 2004. She was born February 3, 1924 in Henderson, PA, to William and Sara Marshall. Betty attended Hamburg High School in Hamburg, NY, and married Bill on August 16, 1941. She worked for Lockheed Aircraft in Burbank, CA, during WW II while Bill served in the Army in Europe. After the war, Betty and Bill purchased a 40-acre farm in Henderson, PA, and moved to Albuquerque in 1955. She worked at Jackson Jr. High School food services for 101/2 years. She was an avid sports enthusiast and never missed an Atlanta Braves baseball game. She always looked forward to the World Series, but also watched football, tennis, golf, and bowling. As a young woman, she was a fantastic swimmer, tennis player, and an avid bowler. She also enjoyed playing cards and dominos with her close friends and neighbors. Betty was a founding member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill who passed on June 19, 2004; her parents, William and Sara Marshall; and her sister, Gert Ellen Wike. Betty is survived by her children, Michael R. and wife, Susan, David M. and wife, Vivian, Kathleen R. Lamar and husband, John; brother, Malcolm Marshall of Sandy Lake, PA; sister, Billie Jean George of Warren, OH; grandchildren, Paige Mahoney and husband, Thomas, Brian Richardson and wife, Lori, Michael D. Richardson and wife, MacKenzie, Eric Richardson, and Johnny Lamar; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Caitlin Mahoney, Austin and Brandon Richardson, and Makaela Richardson. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Her family will always remember and miss her great cooking with her special “Grandma Dust.” The family would also like to give a special thank-you to family member Chris Richardson, the hospice nurses, and the aides who cared for her during her illness. Cremation has taken place and private interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery. A memorial mass will be held at The Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School. ROSS -- E. Lorraine Matlock Ross was born December 11, 1914. She passed away after a long illness on November 6, 2004 at the age of 89. Lorraine married Carl W. on September 11, 1935 in Wink, Texas. They were married 56 years. Before her illness, Lorraine was an accomplished seamstress and artist. She enjoyed working with ceramic greenware as a hobby. Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Carl W.; infant son, David; her mother, father; and 11 brothers and sisters. SEYMOUR -- Jean Parrish Seymour, well known southwestern landscape artist and daughter of the famous illustrator, Maxfield Parrish, passed away quietly on November 19, 2004 at the Albuquerque Care Center where she had been a resident for four years. She was 93. Jean was born in Cornish, New Hampshire in the heyday of the flourishing art colony. She came in 1937 to Albuquerque, New Mexico, as the bride of Augustus T. (Joe) Seymour. They had one daughter, Anne. Their marriage came to an end in 1949, and this marked the beginning of Jean's long artistic career. She always painted under her maiden name, Jean Parrish. For an excellent review of her life, artistic abilities, and accomplishments please see MASTERS OF WESTERN ART, written by Mary Carroll Nelson, published 1982 by Watson-Guptill Publications. Occasionally her paintings can be found for sale on the Internet, but the vast majority of her work is still in private collections. Jean is survived by her daughter, Anne Seymour Heard; son-in-law, John Heard; two grandsons, David and Theodore Heard; granddaughter-in-law, Julieta; and two great-grandchildren, Andre and Camila. In accordance with Jean's wishes, her passing and her life will be celebrated with a festive gathering to be held in mid-January when her son-in-law will be back in country to participate. THOMPSON -- David Thompson, 75, died on November 26, 2004 in Albuquerque. He is survived by his wife, Glinnie Sue Thompson of Dexter, NM; two daughters, Joyce A. Gottlieb and husband, Art of Rio Rancho and Deborah Sue Thompson of Temple, TX; one son, David W. Thompson and Kay Arver of Dexter, NM; five grandchildren, Amanda Thompson, BJ Gottlieb, Jennifer Thompson, David W. Thompson, Jr. and Misty Gottlieb; two sisters, Betty Sue Huffman and Joyce Megeaski; one sister-in-law, Bernice Rochester and three brother-in-laws, Frank, James and Bill Hill. David served in the US Army during WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He was highly involved in the Hawk Missile System. After retirement, he continued working on missile systems with RCA, Raytheon and GTE, where he became involved in the Cruise Missile System. He loved life and his family. He was known for his sense of humor by all. He deemed it a great honor to serve his country. Service will take place on Monday, December 29, 2004 at 12:30 p.m. at French Mortuary - Westside Chapel with Chaplain Lemuel Boyles, officiating. GARCIA -- David Garcia, born on December 2, 1941, was called home to eternal life on Thursday, November 25, 2004. David was a lifelong resident of Pena Blanca, NM. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pena Blanca. David was preceded in death by his beloved son, who he missed so much, David Anthony; his father, Daniel Garcia; most recently three weeks ago his beloved mother, Maryann Garcia, who he cared for with true and unconditional love; and 13 brothers and sisters. David is survived by eight brothers and sisters, Clarence Garcia and wife Lucy, Gilbert Garcia and wife Gloria, Alfred Garcia, Oliver Garcia, Cora Martinez and husband Herman, Nora Armijo and husband Ernest, Lena Gonzales and husband Robert, Donna Herrera and husband Orlando. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other beloved family members and a host of friends who he visited daily and he cherished their friendship so much. Visitations will be Sunday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Pena Blanca; where a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 11:00 a.m. also at the church. TABET -- George K. Tabet went home to be with the Lord on November 26, 2004 at the age of 93. He was born on March 13, 1911 in Punta, New Mexico. He was an Albuquerque resident since 1941 and a WWII Army Veteran. Mr. Tabet was a devoted Catholic and usher for 28 years at the 7:00 a.m. Mass at San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church. He is survived by his loving wife, Adelita Tabet of 66 years; sons, Daniel K. Tabet and Abie Tabet; brother, Samuel K. Tabet and wife, Louise; and his sisters, Lola Daher and Thelma Milner; sisters-in-law, Rose Padilla and Paula Padilla. He will be deeply missed by his loving family. The family would like to extend a special thank you to his caregiver Maria Lee. Visitations will be held on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Garcia Mortuary. DURAN -- Antonio (Tony) Duran, 90, died Saturday, November 20, 2004. A life-long resident of New Mexico and grand storyteller, Tony was a 1936 McCurdy Mission graduate. Born to Lucia and Rafael Duran in Rodarte, he is survived by his daughter, Concha Brown and husband, Raymond, Doris June Moreno and husband, Ben; sons, David and wife, Judy, and Charles; grandchildren, Claudia, Maria, Kathleen, Jessica, Rebecca, Kelly, Ariel, Heather, and Loida; great-grandchildren, AnnJeanette, Cody, Bethany, Joshua, Drake, Chamario, and Karletta; stepsister, Lena Goodheart; sisters-in-law, Teresina and Seferina, and many nieces and nephews. Tony was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (Barnes), infant daughter, Mary Margaret, grandson, Fred, sister, Soledea, brothers, Telesfor, Precopio, and Dennis, and stepbrothers Amadeo, Frank, and Avenicio Lucero.
