BARTON, DAVID R. 1971-2014 David R. Barton, age 42, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Monday, August 18. He was a member of the Catholic Church, and enjoyed music, and reading the Bible. He was an Oklahoma Sooner, and Dallas Cowboy fan. He will be sadly missed by all of his family. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Ray Barton & William Martinez; and grandmother, Mary Pugh. David is survived by his mother, Linda S. (Frank) Salazar, of Belen; brother, Alfonso (Elizabeth) Madrid of Albuquerque; daughter, Karla Victoria Barton of Albuquerque; grandmother, Vera S. Martinez of Las Animas, CO; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. CHAVEZ, LARRY Larry R. Chavez passed away on Aug. 9, 2014. Born on March 19, 1954 in Albuq., NM where he lived all of his life. He is survived by his siblings Richard Chavez, Josie Bencomo, JR Chavez and Adam Chavez. He will be laid to rest with his mother and father at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM with full military honors.

FULGENZI, CONSUELO (CONNIE) passed away peacefully at home on August 17, 2014 with family by her side. She was born January 28, 1924 in Las Vegas, New Mexico to Onofre and Cayetano Lucero. Connie graduated from Highlands High School in Las Vegas. She went on to attend Business College in Albuquerque. Connie married the love of her life Lawrence Fulgenzi on May 6th, 1944 while he was on leave from the Navy. In 1945 Connie went to work in Los Alamos as a legal secretary for the civil service. She went on to work at the Los Alamos National Science Laboratory in personnel. When Lawrence got out of the Navy he and Connie decided to make Los Alamos their permanent home. They were blessed with three daughters and in 1961 Connie left workforce when her youngest daughter was born. She was active in the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and held many positions including president. She was also active in the Los Alamos Extension Club and along with her husband was an avid Lobo fan with season tickets for 44 years. She enjoyed travel within the United States as well as many parts of the world. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends especially her Tuesday morning walking group. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and cherished every minute spent with her family. She was preceded in death by her daughter Norma Jean Fulgenzi. She is survived by her husband of 70 years Lawrence; her two daughters Kathi and son-in-law Ray Zimmerman and Geri Carlberg. She also has five grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; as well as many loving family members. A special thanks to the staff of St Vincent Hospital, the caregivers and staff of The Nurse in the Family, and Hospice of Los Alamos for their care and compassion. GARCIA, DANIEL ELISEO Our little angel Daniel Eliseo Garcia passed peacefully in the arms of his family on Monday, August 18, 2014. Daniel was born on January 10, 2014 to Jay and Rosa Garcia of Albuquerque, NM. He is survived by his parents; brothers, Nathan and Levi; and his sister Gabriella. Daniel proved to be very strong through all of his trials. He had a beautiful smile and loved playing with his brothers and sister. Although his time was short, he brought great joy and an abundance of happiness to his family and all the lives he touched. Daniel will be missed and is now in the safe and loving arms of Jesus. GRADY, THOMAS EDWARD October 1, 1959 - August 18, 2014 Tom has finally won his long battle against cancer, and is now resting under the shadow of the wings of Almighty God. Tom's greatest joy in life was serving The Lord, and his desire was that all would see the Glory of God through the way he lived his life. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Fonda Denise Grady of their family home in Los Lunas NM; his three children, Jared Mykhael Drosche of California, John Travis Grady and wife, Kate Marie Grady of Tucson, AZ, and Rachel Cirina Grady of Los Lunas; his parents, Sherman and Cirina Grady of Albuquerque; his sister, Germaine McKercher and husband, Lee of Albuquerque; his many sisters-in-law in California, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends. The family would like to thank the amazing staff at the New Mexico Cancer Center, especially Dr. Clark Haskins and Dr. Amin Shaw for their care and all the wonderful ladies at Ambercare Hospice, especially Brianna and Erica. A special thank you to the many family, friends, and strangers who have walked this journey with us and have supported us through words of comfort, financial need, and most of all, through prayers. GRAHAM, BERTHA LEE WYLIE Age 88, died peacefully August 17, 2014, after a short illness. A lifelong resident of New Mexico, she was born in Madrid, NM October 6, 1925, but lived most of her life in Albuquerque. She was married to James W. Graham for 64 years, who preceded her in death in 2010. She is survived by two children, Suzanne Graham Shave of Albuquerque, and James L. Graham of Las Cruces; son-in-law, Paul Shave; two grandchildren, Benjamin Graham of Las Cruces and James M. Graham of Bristow, VA; and brother, Ralph Wylie of Dallas, and his wife Odette. Bertha was the youngest of eight children. Her father was a coal mining supervisor. She graduated from Albuquerque High School and worked for the Veterans Administration and Anderson Printing before marrying Jimmy Graham, a plumber and builder. They built two houses in the North Valley and always had an abundant vegetable garden. She did home canning and was a wonderful cook. She was always able to put a delicious meal on the table at short notice for anyone who showed up at her door, including the workers on Jimmy's projects. The North Valley has lost a great host and hostess in Jimmy and Bertha. Bertha's passion was gardening. She was a lifetime flower show judge, Garden Clubber, and president of the Friends of the Rio Grande Botanic Garden from 1996 to 1998. Jimmy and Bertha's friendship and generosity will be greatly missed. We love you Mom. Graveside Services will be held on Monday, August 25, 2014 at 11:15 a.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. HANKS, SHAUN NEIL Shaun Neil Hanks, age 34, of Hobbs, NM, tragically passed away on Saturday, August 16th. He was born in Hobbs, NM on November 30, 1979 to Susie Ann Hicks Manes who preceded him in death. He is survived by his two sons Joshua and Connor Hanks; his sister Brandi Manes; nieces and nephews, family, and countless friends. Shaun worked as a driller in the oil fields, a job that he loved and was proud of. He was also an avid Colts fan who loved watching and going to the games, however it was his two boys that were his pride and joy and his entire life. He loved to take them camping, fishing, to amusement parks, swimming, and loved to watch his sons play sports. Shaun was adored by his boys, loved by so many, and his absence will leave a void in the Albuquerque community. Services will be held on Friday, August 22, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church located at 8600 Academy Road NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111. HIGGINS, CATHERINE MARIE MUTTO born June 10, 1925 in Gallup, New Mexico. She joined her husband in Heaven on Monday, August 18, 2014. She is survived by her four children Lou, Cathy, Rick and Linda, and their spouses; eleven grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. She had a heart for community service, but most importantly was an amazing mother, and grandmother. Catherine loved New Mexico and was very proud of her heritage. She was dearly loved and will live on in the hearts of all the lives she touched. Friends and family are invited to a viewing on Thursday, August 21, 2014 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at FRENCH-University. HOPKINS, OSCAR EARL JR. Age 95, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, August 18, 2014. He was born in Guthrie, OK, to Oscar Earle Hopkins Sr. and Elinor Slagle Stinson. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Mark Alan Hopkins. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1939. Hoppy, as he was known, served in the US Air Force during WWII obtaining the rank of Major. He was stationed at the Wright Patterson AFB where he met his wife, Betty Elaine Toy. After the war, he went to the Philippines and Japan to help with the reconstruction projects. In 1953, the family moved to Albuquerque where Hoppy was employed as a Civilian Engineer at Kirtland AFB. After retiring in 1973, he worked for the University of New Mexico doing research into the effects of nuclear blast waves on various structures, famously blowing up the desert with dynamite at regular intervals. He was even featured on Walter Cronkite CBS News after one particularly spectacular blast outside of Lake Havasu, Arizona. Hoppy was very involved with his children's lives including youth horse shows, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. He was a lifetime member of Masonic Temple Lodge No. 6, active in La Noche Garden Club and participated in the KAFB MOAA Ski Club in his later years. In his retirement he spent a great deal of time babysitting his grand-dogs while his older daughter traveled for work, attended NASCAR races with his younger daughter and her husband, but his real joy was attending the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta for over 30 years, the last one being this past April. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty; sister, Jane Goodall; his daughters, Lynn Hopkins & Amy (Hopkins) Gorcyzca and her husband, Fred; daughter-in-law, Patricia Johns Hopkins; granddaughters, Sarah Dixon and her husband, Jed, Michelle Hannah and her husband, John, Kristen Holdren and her husband, Chris, Angela Portwood and her husband, Chris; great-grandchildren, Hunter and Brooke Dixon, Lauren and Ben Hannah, Carter Portwood, and Evelyn Holdren; and many nieces, nephews, and multitudes of friends. KEY, SHANNON T. Age 40, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, NM, took his first steps in Heaven early Wednesday morning, August 20, 2014. Shannon is survived by his wife of 19 years, Sorcha L. Key; his children, Cassia S. Key age 17, Kaylynn M. Key age 16, Garrett T. Key age 14; and his parents, Ernest T. Key and Ethel L. Key. Shannon battled brain cancer for 7 years and during this time never complained and always said he felt "GREAT" even when he didn't. He was known to many as a family man, police officer, fighter, warrior, friend and most importantly a servant of God. Shannon was a member of Mesa Baptist Church where he faithfully served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Choir Member. After graduating high school Shannon served in the U.S. Navy onboard the USS George Washington as an aviation ordinance man. After getting out of the Navy Shannon dedicated his life to serving the community as a Bernalillo County Sheriff's deputy. During his 17 years as a deputy Shannon served on the Honor Guard, worked as a homicide and violent crimes detective and was a SWAT and K-9 Team Member. Shannon loved his job and considered all those he worked with, his brothers and sisters on the force. Often people would tell Shannon that it was good to see him and he would respond by saying, "It is good to be seen." I like to think that when he entered Heaven God looked at Shannon and said, "It's good to see you" and Shannon replied, "It's good to be seen". I will forever love you my partner, my lover, my stronghold, my best friend for now it is my job to carry on your legacy of, Keeping the Faith. LUCAS, CHESTER DONALD Don passed away peacefully on August 18, 2014. He was born June 8, 1935, on a ranch east of Nolan, NM. He spent most of his life in New Mexico attending elementary and high schools in Albuquerque. After graduating from Albuquerque High School, he joined the U.S. Navy and served one tour of duty in Japan after which he attended UNM. He graduated from UNM with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Don owned and operated his own business for over 25 years with offices in Albuquerque and Tempe, AZ and retired in 1996. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the family cabin in northern New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester Thomas Lucas and Patsy Hatton Garrett; brothers, Richard Lucas and David Garrett; and nephew, Ty A. Garrett. Don is survived by his wife, Maxine; son, Terry A. Lucas and wife Marta; grandson, Dustin A. Lucas; great- grandson, Keyton A. Lucas; brother, Michael T. Garrett and wife Juanita; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; step-mother, Louise Blair; and extended family members Erica, Mike and Brien Brooks. MILLER, ROSE ANN Age 97, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014 in Boise, ID. She was a resident of Boise for the last two years, and formerly a resident of Albuquerque, NM for 28 years, and Western Springs, IL for 32 years. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara M. Hoyns and husband Lawrence of Longmont, CO, and Lucinda M. Gonzalez and husband, Antonio of Boise, ID; grandchildren, Virginia Nowell and her husband, Christopher, and Edward Russell, of Longmont, CO, Julia Gonzalez of Trinity, FL, Antonio Gonzalez, Laura Davis, and her husband, William, and Thomas Gonzalez, all of Boise, ID; and sister, Mary F. Bonfield, of La Porte, IN; and great- grandchildren, Miranda Nowell and Spencer Nowell, of Longmont, CO. She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Thomas G. MYERS, FREDERICK MARTIN Frederick Martin Myers passed away this past Tuesday, August 19, 2014. He was born on April 3, 1916 in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. He served in the occupational US Army, stationed in Japan. After his discharge, he earned his BA at the University of Indiana in Bloomington, Indiana. Then in 1950, Frederick moved with his family to Albuquerque where he received his Master's degree from the University of New Mexico. He taught in the Albuquerque Public School System until his retirement at age 62. Not one to sit idle, he studied for the deaconate in the Episcopal Church and served as a deacon at both St. Mary's Episcopal Church and at the Cathedral of St. John's. As an avocation, Frederick and his wife Margaret started the not-for-profit organization Teen-Age Study Tours and over the years spent summers taking thousands of New Mexico high school students on educational tours of Western and Eastern Europe. Frederick is survived by his wife of 74 years, Margaret Myers; his three children, Ann, Stephen and Michael; by his four grandchildren, Michelle, Douglas, Adan and Maria Sol; and eight great-grandchildren. His life-long passions with church, education and travel provided him with a full and rewarding life that is to be envied by all. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations to the Episcopal Relief Fund would be appreciated. PAYNE, THOMAS J. was born May 4, 1927 in Cassville, Missouri. He departed this life on August 20, 2014 in Springfield, Missouri. After service in the US Navy, he moved to Seymour, Missouri where he met and married his wife, Janet Nell Miller on June 19, 1952. Thomas is survived by his wife, Janet of 62 years; one son, Brent and wife Anna of Costa Mesa, California; grandchildren, Tommy, Jenny, Michelle and husband Jason. Surviving siblings are his brother Bill and wife Jewel of El Cajon, California and sister Wilma Hughesman and son Ronnie of San Diego, California. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Billie Ridenour and husband Lesley of Springfield; nieces Shelly Ambler of El Cajon, California and Linda Payne of Lake Havasu, California, Debra Keithley of Ash Grove, Missouri, and Rebecca Dotson of Walnut Grove, Missouri; nephews William and Eugene Payne of El Cajon, California. He was preceded in death by his parents Pearl and Ernest Payne and two sisters Irene and Delilah. In 1957, Thomas moved with his wife and son to Albuquerque, New Mexico where he was employed by the University of New Mexico in their printing department. He worked there for over 35 years, with the last ten years serving as Director of the department. He was a devoted Bible student with a passion for teaching. He was often sought out for his spiritual insights and counsel by his family and friends. He had many favorite scriptures as evidenced by the tattered pages and highlights in his Bible. In loving remembrance for his devoted life in Christ, with lasting inspiration to his closest family and friends. Services will be Friday, August 22, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. A graveside service with full military honors will be Monday, August 25, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Missouri Veterans Cemetery. PENA, ABELICIO (ABE) Abelicio (Abe) M. Pena 87, a legend in Cibola County and western New Mexico, died on Tuesday, August 19, 2014. Abe is survived by his wife, Viola Cisneros Pena; three daughters: Ramona Alires (Norman), Paula Ladd, Cecilia Salisbury (Randy); son Marco Pena; granddaughters: Maria Ladd Ehrlich (Jason), Andrea Alires, Michele and Jessica Ladd; two grandsons: Marco Alires and Paul Ladd; his two great-grandchildren: Elijah and Anya Ehrlich. Also survived by his brother Bennie Pena (Sandra); sisters Lydia M. Pena S.L., and Dorothy Pena McBride; and sister-in-law, Marie Moleres Pena. Pallbearers will be: Sgt. Marco Alires, Albert Barnett, Patrick Collins, Lcpl. Paul Ladd, Vincent Martinez, Paul Pena, Robert Pena, Isaiah Stafford, Kevin Terrell. ROMERO, CHRISTINE O. a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2014 at home with her family at her side. Mrs. Romero is survived by her husband, of 46 years, David Romero; children, Brian Romero and Carla Rios, Debbie Garcia and husband, Gary, and Denise Torres; special nephew and nieces she raised, Robert J. Gonzales, Desiree Gonzales, Roberta Rose Gonzales, and Eugene Arthur Gonzales; brothers, Robert Gonzales and Teddy Gonzales. WATKINS, MARILYN E. was born September 23, 1926 and peacefully passed into eternity on Friday, July 18, 2014. She is alive today with her risen Savior, Jesus Christ, and her loving husband of 47 years, Jesse Watkins. She is survived by her five children, Dianne Todd and husband Pete, Tom Watkins and wife Harriet, David Watkins and wife Maxine, Mark Watkins and wife Jenny, Dan Watkins and wife Cathy, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and extended family and friends who loved and will miss her. Marilyn faithfully served the Lord beside her husband in Albuquerque, Socorro, and Veguita, NM. She played the organ at Alameda Bible Church for many years and played the "Wedding March" time and time again. She could pick up any sheet of music and play it without fault on the organ or piano. A memorial service will be held at Alameda Bible Church, 220 El Pueblo Road, on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. There will be a lunch and fellowship after the service for all who care to come. WATSON, CHASE TYLER Our beloved son and brother, age 25, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 19, 2014. Chase is survived by his father, James W. Watson; his mother, Leesa C.
