SIMMS, JESSE MECHEM was born March 14, 1969 and died Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at his home in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Jesse graduated from New Mexico State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert L. Zouhar. Jesse is survived by his mother, Mary Zouhar; step-father, Raymond Zouhar, MD.; sister, Kris Zouhar; father, Albert Simms; siblings, Kai Mechem, Adam Mechem and Ian Simms; niece, Maya Price; his special friend, Luke Cordova and his family; as well as many cousins, aunts, an uncle, other family members and friends who loved and will miss him greatly. TOPE, CAROLYN STAGG born April 17, 1927, died on June 30, 2013. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Dwight. She is survived by her sons Rock and wife Deborah of Albuquerque; Chris and wife Dolores of Colorado Springs and their son and daughter Michael and Susan. She is also survived by her sister Marcia Cantrell and niece Carol Cantrell, both of whom provided so much continual love and care as her health declined. She attended Immanuel Presbyterian Church; was a charter member of Las Aranas Spinners and Weavers Guild and Escribiente; also belonged to the Albuquerque Handweavers Guild, and played golf at the Albuquerque Country Club for many years. In later years Carolyn took up the folk harp and quilting. The family wishes to thank Carolyn's primary physician Dr Christopher Merchant for all the care and attention he gave and for telling Mom she could eat all the chocolate she wanted. We also thank another of Mom's doctors, Dr Sara Mills, for her additional medical care, friendship and cinnamon roll loaves. Much appreciation is also expressed to her dear friends Pat Wimer and Rose Holte for the food and friendship they provided. And the family also thanks CeCe who led the excellent home health care team during Mom's final weeks. Carolyn will be cremated and no service will be held, per her wishes. VALDEZ, KARNELL Age 27, a resident of Albuquerque, died suddenly in a car accident Tuesday, July 2, 2013. She is survived by her husband, Andres E. Valdez; her daughter, Lucy Love Valdez; her mother, Evelyn Begaye; her sister, Shondeen Holling and husband, Jajuan; her brothers, Kraylin and Harris Begaye; her nephew, Amari Begaye; her grandmothers, Elsie Glander and Helen Whiterock and many other family and friends. Mrs. Valdez was preceded in death by her father, Robert Begaye, and her grandpas. She was a student at SIPI working on her business administration degree. Karnell was a member of Calvary Chapel Southwest. A Service honoring her memory will be Saturday, July 6, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. ANDERSON, MORLEY "MOE" ROBERT September 16, 1961- May 30, 2013 Moe was the youngest of three children born to Robert and Elisabeth Anderson. A scamp from birth, he was a big-hearted and loving man who never met a stranger. Anyone who knew him would attest to his great and true value as a husband, father, son, brother and friend. Morley was a physical therapist who devoted his life to helping others and he was happiest when doing so in all aspects of his life. In his free time, he was renewed by Mother Nature. An avid explorer and a skilled and respectful hunter and fisherman, Morley's spirit was lifted when he was in the mountains. His goodwill, his laugh and his campfire meals will be all missed. Morley is survived by his loving partner Denise Anderson; sons Armando and Travis; his brother John Anderson (Diane, daughters: Isabel & Milena); sisters Lynn Anderson (Kelly, daughter: Annie) and Becky Gallardo (Jason, son: Matthew); many nieces, nephews and great nephews; Aunt Paula Williams; Uncles Paul and John Haynes; numerous cousins and many, many important friends. A celebration of Morley's life will be held at 5:00 pm, Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 6916 4th Street NW in Los Ranchos. Your favorite photograph of Morley is welcomed.

ASHCROFT, REX OLEY was born on May 13, 1938 to James Wilford Ashcroft and Bertha Josie James in Ramah, N.M. and passed away on July 4, 2013 at the age of 75. Rex was a professional welder and a lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was preceded in death by his son, Shannon Ashcroft and step-son, Edward Whisenhunt. Rex is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Viola Ashcroft; sons, Rex and John; daughter, Terri Ashcroft; step-sons, Roger and John Whisenhunt; step-daughters, Glorianna, Georgia and Minnie; sister, Ira and brother, Earl. Services will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery Chapel, 1900 Edith Blvd. N.E. on Monday, July 8, 2013. A Viewing will begin at 11:00am. A Service will take place at 12:00pm. Burial to follow. AUSTIN, JOHN ALOIS Age 84, passed away on July 2, 2013 in Albuquerque, NM. John was born May 13, 1929 in Fargo, ND. He honorably served his country as a geodetic surveyor in the U.S. Army and Civil Service, retiring after 42 years. For the remainder of his life, John enjoyed his lifelong hobby of training and riding horses on his ranch in Alamogordo, NM. John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Louise Austin; five children, Kitty (Bob) Lankford, Sue (Vic) Bachechi, Julie (Gene) Grant, John (Antoinette) Austin and Sally Austin; eight grandchildren, Laura Lankford, Molly, Marie and Charlie Bachechi, John (Rebecca) Grant, Bobbie (fiance Dave Braverman) Grant, Johnny and Luke Austin; and one great-grandson, Alex; numerous nieces and nephews who will miss their "Cowboy Uncle John". John was preceded in death by his three brothers and three sisters and one grandson, Tony Lankford. John was a rare breed and will forever leave a void in all of our hearts. A Rosary recitation will he held 9:30 am with a Mass of the Resurrection to follow at 10 am, Monday, July 8, 2013, San Clemente Catholic Church, Los Lunas, NM. Internment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, ride a horse in his memory.

BRUSUELAS, BILLY Beloved son & brother, Billy Brusuelas, age 33, of Chama and of Albuquerque, NM, passed away Wednesday, July 3rd. Preceded in death by his grandparents, Zeke and Carlotta Brusuelas, Lalo and Mela Quintana, uncles, Jimmy and Johnny Quintana, and step-father, Clay Beasley. Survived by parents, Mike Brusuelas and Cleo Beasley; brothers Miguel Brusuelas, Diego Brusuelas, and O.C. Beasley. Billy graduated Escalante High School in 1998, Central New Mexico Community College in 2002 and UNM in 2008. Services will be held at Saint Patrick Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 8, 2013.

CHAVEZ-LACKEY, MARIA MATILDE (TILLIE) age 79, passed away on July 3, 2013. She was born in Cuba, NM on April 2, 1934 to the late Amado & Eufemia Romero. She was preceded in death by her daughter Baby Gail and sister Christy Romero. She is survived by her husband of ten years, Royce Lackey; her beloved children, Deborah Chavez Pacheco and husband Henry Pacheco, Jr., Marco Chavez and wife Roberta; five granddaughters - the pride and joy of her life - Anna Pacheco Chavez and husband Brian Chavez, Lisa Pacheco Zamora and husband Matthew Zamora, Acacia, Jaeda and Tuesday Chavez; four great-grandchildren (her greatest joy) A.J. & Isaac Chavez and Aubrey & Amy Zamora; sister Sobie Chavez; brother Tane Romero and wife Loretta; sister Mary Madore; brother Amado (Sonny) Romero and wife Ramona; and sister Judy Romero; and many nephews and nieces whom she was very close to and loved very much. A Rosary will be recited on Sunday, July 7, 2013 at 6:00pm, Services of Christian Burial on Monday, July 8, 2013 both at St. Therese of the Little Flower Catholic Church, 3424 4th Street NW.
