STARUSTKA -- ERWIN J. SR. Age 83, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2011. He is survived by wife of 61 years, Frances M. Starustka of Albuquerque, NM; son, Michael H. Starustka of Albuquerque, NM; daughter, Sandra K. and husband, James Byford of Dayton, TX; grandchildren, Amy Byford, Timothy Byford, Lacey Byford, Annette Melissa Starustka, Michelle Tanna Starustka, Victoria Renae Starustka; sister Bessie Hundl of Pearland, Texas. Mr. Starustka was preceded in death by his son, Erwin James Starustka II. Erwin served and retired from the United States Air Force. He also retired from the Civil Service. After retiring from Civil Service, Erwin started his own telecommunications business, as a contractor. He was a life member of the Air Force Sergeant's Association, American Legion Post #49, Disabled American Veterans, National Rifle Association and AARP. Services will be held at French - University Chapel on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 1:00 pm. Entombment will take place at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. There will be a visitation at French - University Chapel on Friday, November 4 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. STEWART -- CECIL V. Age 92, a resident of Rio Rancho, affectionately known as "Granddad" by his family went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 2, 2011. He loved his church and his family very much. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were very special to Granddad. He is survived by his three children, Bill Stewart and wife, Diane of Colorado, and John Stewart and wife, Becky of Rio Rancho, and Janet Stewart of Rio Rancho; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Sarah Jean Stewart, one year ago. Cecil was one of five brothers born on September 6, 1919 in Bryan, TX to Milton and Hazel Stewart. He served his country in WWII on a mine sweeper in the Navy as Chief Quartermaster. It was during his time in the Navy that he met and married the former Sarah Jean Adams - our beloved "Gran". They were married for 67 years before she passed away in 2010. Granddad loved sports and would watch any sport, no matter how obscure it was, and enjoy it. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Albuquerque Senior Men's Golf Association after from the Corps of Engineers. Granddad was also a volunteer, along with his wife, Jean, at Presbyterian Hospital for many years. He was an active and devoted member of Harwood United Methodist Church and served there in many capacities during his life. Granddad sang for many happy years in the Harwood choir. Most of all, Granddad was a kind and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He taught us grace, devotion and peace and we will miss him greatly. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at Saturday, November 5, 2011, 2:00 p.m., at Harwood United Methodist Church, 420 San Lorenzo NW. TORRES -- LUIS Age 89, formerly of Belen, NM, residing in Albuquerque, NM since 2008, died Tuesday, November 1, 2011. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Lyrie (Romero) Torres; children, Luis Torres, Jr. and wife Deana of Belen, Lorraine Torres of Albuquerque, Laura Villanueva of Overland Park, Kansas, and Leonard and wife, Jackie of Los Chavez; grandchildren, Joy and children, Lyrie Ann Baker and children, Tristan, wife, Marie, daughter Layla; Bryan, wife Tasha, sons, Brady and Colby; Joy Lynn; and Justine, Josh and son, Max, John and Frank; brother, Emilio Torres and wife, Gertrude and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Sinda Torres; brother, Sinesio Torres, and sister, Rose Padilla. After graduating from Albuquerque High School he attended UNM in the engineering school for one and a half years then entered the US Army and served from 1942 to 1946. During his service to our country, he attended the Medical Technical School at Walter Reed General Hospital, Washington, DC and graduated as a Medical Laboratory Technician. After the service, he worked for four years at the Albuquerque VA Hospital as a Medical Technician. In 1951 he moved his family to Belen, NM and opened the first medical laboratory at the Belen General Hospital. In 1956, he purchased the Belen General Hospital and function as Owner/Administrator until 1971 when he sold the hospital to Presbyterian Hospital. He remained the administrator of Eastern Valencia Hospital until 1984. He then was the administrator of the Espanola Hospital for two years and retired to his family farm in Albuquerque. He served as a member of Belen City Council, member/president of the Rotary Club and Belen Chamber of Commerce, member of the Valencia County Sheriff's Posse and the, Knights of Columbus. He received prestigious awards from the City of Belen and Presbyterian Hospital. Services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Saturday, November 5, 2011. Visitation will be at 9:00 a.m. and the Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. and Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. with burial following at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens and then a reception. BUSH -- LINDA SANDRA Our beloved Linda "Sandy" Bush died early Sunday, more than ten years after she was first diagnosed with cancer. The former mail carrier was loved by many here in Albuquerque where she was born 62 years ago and in California where she grew up and raised her own family. Sandy is survived by her husband Mike; daughter Michelle Brito; son Marc Tapia; mother and step-father Cecelia and Enrique del Real; five grandchildren Xavier Banda, Sonia Brito and Jeanette, Vanessa and Marcus Tapia; four sisters; six brothers; many nephews and nieces. A Memorial Service is planned for 6:00 p.m., Saturday evening at The Church, 3021 Todos Santos NW in Albuquerque.

CHAMPLIN -- MARCELLA ROSE Age 87, who lived in Albuquerque since 1951, died October 25, 2011. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Ouellette and her husband, Mike of Antonita, Colorado, and their children, Carrie and Chance; son, Mark Champlin and his children, Jacinda of Albuquerque, Glen Champlin and wife Jennifer, and their children, Brett and Geneva Rose of Hillsboro, Oregon. Marcella, "Sally" to her family and friends, was preceded in death by her husband, John and Mark's wife, Diana. She retired after a lifelong career as an Elementary teacher for the Albuquerque Public Schools. Known as "Champ" to her teaching associates, she taught third grade and occasionally fourth grade at Montgomery and Governor Bent Elementary Schools for the majority of her teaching career. She enjoyed teaching children facing learning challenges in their early education. A Memorial service will be held in the French Funeral Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd NE, at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, November 6, 2011. Interment will be at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM, at 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 7, 2011. COLBERG -- CAY S. Born April 28, 1925 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She passed away peacefully at home November 1, 2011. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Malcolm G. Colberg, of 40 years. She is survived by her daughters Pamela Colberg and Margie Colberg-Potrykus; grandchildren John Stewart, Jennifer Potrykus-Hatter, Jessamyn Potrykus; great-granddaughter Haley Rose Hatter. She grew up on a farm in Pennsylvania called "Wycomia" during the depression. She attended George School, Swathmore Collage, and graduated from U of Wyoming with a liberal arts degree and a library science degree from U of New Mexico. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, reading, and liberal politics. She taught school in APS for many years. With the belief of furthering medical education, she donated her body to science. GARCIA -- JOE LESTER Age 80, passed away peacefully at his home on November 2, 2011. "The world has lost a great man but yet the heavens have gained another one. His impact on those who knew him will not be forgotten." He is survived by his wife, Josephine Garcia; daughter, Patricia Annabell Myers; son, Robert Patrick Garcia; daughter, Virginia Coffman and her husband, John Coffman; four grandchildren, Vanessa Sprunk, Sophia Beardsley, Olivia Garcia, and Lester Bottoms; two step-grandchildren: Casey Coffman and Kimberly Jones; and three great-grandchildren: Natasha and Joseph (J.T.) Sprunk and Avalon Beardsley. His son, Henry David Garcia preceded him in death. Lester was a long time member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church. He served in the Army National Guard for six years. He retired from Sandia National Laboratories in 1989 after thirty-seven years of service. A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at French ~ Lomas Chapel. GONZALES -- ANTHONY "TONY" Age 46, beloved, son, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend, was embraced by the Lord and taken to his heavenly home, Monday, October 31, 2011. He was a life time resident of Albuquerque, NM, and a member of the Catholic Community. Anthony is survived by his loving parents, Leo and Amelia "Millie" Gonzales; his sisters and brother, Theresa Michelback, Bernice Pannuzzo and husband Ron, Barbara McKinsey, and Leo Gonzales, Jr. and fiancee, Lisa; his nieces and nephews, Alicia Gallegos and husband Joseph, Jesse and Sheyenne Michelback, Matthew and Nicole Pannuzzo, Daniel and John Gutierrez, Joshua Gonzales, and Ryan Mckinsey; two great-nieces, Dezirae and Angelise Gallegos; one great-nephew, Adrian Gallegos; numerous aunts, uncles and other extended family members and friends. Anthony was fondly known to many by "Tony". He loved his family and enjoyed family gatherings. Tony also had a gift of compassion, and prayed with friends in time of need. He had a great sense of humor and loved playing practical jokes on his family and friends. Tony also enjoyed "trying" to cook for his family and friends. Tony will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those whose hearts he touched. Visitation will be Sunday, November 6, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 9502 Fourth Street NW, where a Rosary will be recited at 3:00 p.m. Final Viewing will be Monday morning from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services - Alameda Mortuary. Followed by the Service of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church.
