BUSH -- LINDA SANDRA Our beloved Linda "Sandy" Bush died early Sunday, more than ten years after she was first diagnosed with cancer. The former mail carrier was loved by many here in Albuquerque where she was born 62 years ago and in California where she grew up and raised her own family. Sandy is survived by her husband Mike; daughter Michelle Brito; son Marc Tapia; mother and step-father Cecelia and Enrique del Real; five grandchildren Xavier Banda, Sonia Brito and Jeanette, Vanessa and Marcus Tapia; four sisters; six brothers; many nephews and nieces. CHAMPLIN -- MARCELLA ROSE Age 87, who lived in Albuquerque since 1951, died October 25, 2011. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Ouellette and her husband, Mike of Antonita, Colorado, and their children, Carrie and Chance; son, Mark Champlin and his children, Jacinda of Albuquerque, Glen Champlin and wife Jennifer, and their children, Brett and Geneva Rose of Hillsboro, Oregon. Marcella, "Sally" to her family and friends, was preceded in death by her husband, John and Mark's wife, Diana. She retired after a lifelong career as an Elementary teacher for the Albuquerque Public Schools. Known as "Champ" to her teaching associates, she taught third grade and occasionally fourth grade at Montgomery and Governor Bent Elementary Schools for the majority of her teaching career. She enjoyed teaching children facing learning challenges in their early education. A Memorial service will be held in the French Funeral Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd NE, at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, November 6, 2011. Interment will be at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM, at 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 7, 2011. COLBERG -- CAY S. Born April 28, 1925 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She passed away peacefully at home November 1, 2011. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Malcolm G. Colberg, of 40 years. She is survived by her daughters Pamela Colberg and Margie Colberg-Potrykus; grandchildren John Stewart, Jennifer Potrykus-Hatter, Jessamyn Potrykus; great-granddaughter Haley Rose Hatter. She grew up on a farm in Pennsylvania called "Wycomia" during the depression. She attended George School, Swathmore Collage, and graduated from U of Wyoming with a liberal arts degree and a library science degree from U of New Mexico. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, reading, and liberal politics. She taught school in APS for many years. With the belief of furthering medical education, she donated her body to science. GARCIA -- JOE LESTER Age 80, passed away peacefully at his home on November 2, 2011. "The world has lost a great man but yet the heavens have gained another one. His impact on those who knew him will not be forgotten." He is survived by his wife, Josephine Garcia; daughter, Patricia Annabell Myers; son, Robert Patrick Garcia; daughter, Virginia Coffman and her husband, John Coffman; four grandchildren, Vanessa Sprunk, Sophia Beardsley, Olivia Garcia, and Lester Bottoms; two step-grandchildren: Casey Coffman and Kimberly Jones; and three great-grandchildren: Natasha and Joseph (J.T.) Sprunk and Avalon Beardsley. His son, Henry David Garcia preceded him in death. Lester was a long time member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church. He served in the Army National Guard for six years. GONZALES -- ANTHONY "TONY" Age 46, beloved, son, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend, was embraced by the Lord and taken to his heavenly home, Monday, October 31, 2011. He was a life time resident of Albuquerque, NM, and a member of the Catholic Community. Anthony is survived by his loving parents, Leo and Amelia "Millie" Gonzales; his sisters and brother, Theresa Michelback, Bernice Pannuzzo and husband Ron, Barbara McKinsey, and Leo Gonzales, Jr. and fiancee, Lisa; his nieces and nephews, Alicia Gallegos and husband Joseph, Jesse and Sheyenne Michelback, Matthew and Nicole Pannuzzo, Daniel and John Gutierrez, Joshua Gonzales, and Ryan Mckinsey; two great-nieces, Dezirae and Angelise Gallegos; one great-nephew, Adrian Gallegos; numerous aunts, uncles and other extended family members and friends. Anthony was fondly known to many by "Tony". He loved his family and enjoyed family gatherings. Tony also had a gift of compassion, and prayed with friends in time of need. He had a great sense of humor and loved playing practical jokes on his family and friends. Tony also enjoyed "trying" to cook for his family and friends. Tony will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those whose hearts he touched. HALL -- MARY GREGORY PHILLIPS Age 93, died, October 29, 2011, in her home in Albuquerque, New Mexico while surrounded by loved ones. She was born July 28, 1918, in New York City, and graduated from Smith College in 1934. Mary is known for her compassionate nature, her love of music and art and her political activism for the environment and human justice. Always a step ahead of most people, she picketed the White House when Kennedy sent "advisors" into Viet Nam. She was concerned about the effects of air born radiation on children's bones, so lobbied and organized to stop the atmospheric testing of nuclear bombs. She was a founding member of Women Strike for Peace and in the Charlotte, North Carolina years, became a well-known civil rights activist. She and her family used their house as collateral to secure the release of a black man who was framed on an arson charge in North Carolina. She attended the Supreme Court deliberations on Swann vs. Charlotte Mecklenburg Board of Education, the first school bussing to achieve racial balance case. Mary and her family were shot at more than once as a result of her activism. Mary bravely joined the weekly silent vigil against the war in Viet Nam downtown at the Charlotte Post office. While, John Hall, her husband of 25 years, became a draft counselor, she provided food and a floor on which to sleep for young men who were fleeing the draft. She was an intervener in the Supreme Court case against Duke Power Company, in an attempt to stop the proliferation of nuclear power plants and to expand liability limits for nuclear accidents. In later years she supported the ACLU and the Natural Resources Defense Council and continued her fight against nuclear power in New Mexico. She was married to John O. P. Hall in 1950 with whom she had two children, Tabitha and Jonathan. Her move to New Mexico was precipitated by the loss of John and a new era began in her varied life. She met the love of her life, Hugh K. "Joule" Jennings at the Unitarian Church in Santa Fe, NM. She adored him and spent many happy times hiking and traveling all over the world with him until his death 25 years later. Her passion for people led her to a career as a certified Reality Therapist who received training directly from Dr. William Glasser, at the center in California. In Santa Fe, she worked with abusive and struggling families as a volunteer at the Santa Fe Family Center, and with private clients as well. Even as recently as four months ago, a client from the past found Mary in Albuquerque in order to express her gratitude for the help she received. Mary had a magnetic personality and was surrounded with friends wherever she went and in whatever she did. Despite any difficulties she encountered, she was always optimistic and had a laugh and a smile for any situation. She was extremely brave. She is survived by: her sister, Jane Phillips Bialek and nieces and nephew Janka, Kasia, and Peter; her children, Tabitha Hall and Jonathan Phillips Hall (Leslie W. Hall); grand-children, Sean Daniel Winkless-Hall (Jennifer Sinclair Winkless-Hall), Kerry Caitlin Winkless-Hall, and Dustin Phillips Hall; her step-children, Lee Jennings, Lynn Jennings, and Ken Jennings (Margot Jennings); step-grandchildren Colin Jennings (Crystal Jennings), Dana Jennings Garcia (Roland Garcia), Parker Jennings (Mykayla Jennings) and Hillary Jennings; and three step-great-grandchildren. Other beloved survivors include, Stephen Marinelli, Jaidev Contractor and his parents Donna and Devendra Contractor, Patricia Ramczyk, as well as her granddaughter by affection, Valeria Balderas (Oliver Sevillano) and baby Kimberly, Debbie Freschette, Kay and Martha Bird. A memorial service will be held in Santa Fe at a date to be determined.

KENT -- EDITH H. (EDIE) Of Corrales and Albuquerque, New Mexico, died Friday evening, October 28, 2011, at the age of 86, of natural, age-related causes. Edie was born in Evanston, Illinois (just north of Chicago) on December 14, 1924. Edie was the youngest of four children born to Wiley E. Hosier and Merle Deane Hosier. She was predeceased by her eldest sister Julia Hosier(who died in infancy); her brother, William A. Hosier, of Massachusetts (who died in 1999); her sister and close confidant, Julie Deane Jones, of North Carolina (who died in 2009). She was also predeceased by her brother-in-law, John M. Hoar, of Concord New Hampshire (who died in 2010). Edie graduated with a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio, in 1946. She worked as a hospital lab technologist at St. Luke's Hospital in Chicago for three years until 1949, and married Richard B. (Dick) Kent, who had been her college sweetheart, on June 2, 1949 at the home of her parents in Terre Haute, Indiana. Edie and Dick lived for a short time thereafter in Dayton, Ohio, where Edie worked in the laboratory at Memorial Hospital. Edie and Dick were both free spirits in their time, and they left the Midwest in 1950 for adventure and a fresh start in the Land of Enchantment. They lived in Albuquerque for a year and settled in Corrales in 1951, where they built an adobe home with their own hands and lived together and raised a family for 37 years until Dick's death in 1988, and where Edie lived independently for 21 more years. Edie worked as a medical lab technologist at the old Santa Fe Railway Hospital in Albuquerque after her arrival in New Mexico and until she was ready to raise a family. Edie gave life to three sons, Brian Kent (Ann Mahaffey), Jason Kent (Denise Bissell), and Guy Kent (Vicki Ellison Kent), and four grandsons, Brady Kent, Drew Kent, Carson Kent and Spencer Kent. She is also survived by much loved nieces and nephews from Massachusetts, North Carolina and New Hampshire. Edie was an at-home wife and mother after her first child was born and until her children were all in school. She then returned to work as a medical lab technologist for several doctors' offices in Albuquerque, with her lengthiest time being spent at the offices of Drs. Hanold, Beeson and Seibert. At about the time all her children had graduated from high school, Edie retired as a lab technologist and instead put those same skills to work as the home-dialysis (kidney machine) technologist and care giver for her husband Dick, who needed to go on dialysis in 1973 due to end stage renal failure. Edie kept Dick alive on hemo-dialysis for 15 years, and also worked as an office assistant in Dick's photography business for most of those years until she and Dick retired in 1985. In addition, Edie volunteered for many years at the Corrales Community Library and the First Unitarian Church in Albuquerque. She was a member of the First Unitarian Church for almost 50 years. Edie lived the last year of her life in the tender care of Carmen and Curtis Hudson of Touched by a White Dove Assisted Care in Albuquerque. Edie was a wonderful, sweet person. She was exceptionally kind, even to the crawly creatures that often invaded her Corrales home. She gave her love freely to family, friends, and even to strangers. She endured much, including living with severe rheumatoid arthritis for more than thirty years. She had a keen mind and an easy homespun sense of humor. She possessed a forceful will and strong moral convictions, but she was non-judgmental and forgave easily. She taught by example and lived with gratitude, acceptance and grace. Edie was one of a kind. There will be a memorial service for Edie conducted at the First Unitarian Church, 3701 Carlisle Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico, 87110, commencing at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 26, 2011 (the Saturday after Thanksgiving), with Christine Robinson officiating. MARKER -- MILDRED P. Age 93, a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2011. She was born August 8, 1918 in Indianapolis, IN and kept the Governor of Indiana awake on the night she was born. She is survived by two daughters, Meredith Jungst (Rudy) and Mitzi Zeri (Matt). She is also survived by six grandchildren, Michelle Overholt (Chris), Heather Jungst, Marie Baca, David Bueffel (Karin), Scott Bueffel (Jennifer) and Elizabeth Dreith (Doug); six great-grandchildren and one on the way. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband Thomas F. Marker. She attended Stephens College and graduated from the University of Colorado in 1940. She was very active in many genealogy organizations including being a Charter Member and Past Regent of Charles Dibrell Chapter of DAR and a dual member of Colorado & New Mexico Society of Mayflower Descendents. She was also a member of The Ancient and Honorable Artillery, Huguenot Society, Daughters of Founders and Patriots, Magna Charta Dames, New England Women, Order of the Crown of Charlemagne and the New Mexico Society of The Colonial Dames of America. MAROSI -- ANNA Passed away peacefully on October 28, 2011 at the age of 100. She was born in West Virginia to immigrant parents. Her family returned with her to Slovakia in 1914. She became a school teacher, but her career was cut short by her battle with tuberculosis. She married Julius Marosi in 1935 and was widowed in 1966. Anna returned to United States in 1969, to join her daughter. Anna was an avid gardener and walked daily into her early nineties. She diligently studied and mastered the English language and helped to raise her two granddaughters. She was also a breast cancer survivor. Anna is survived by her daughter, Dr. Alice Marosi-Csepregi; granddaughters, Nicole Adams and husband Jerry Adams, Cathy Cavanaugh and husband Dr. Brendan Cavanaugh; four great-grandchildren. She was one of six children and is preceded in death by her siblings. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on November 12, at 2:00 p.m. at the Aquinas Newman Center in the Dominican Chapel, 1815 Las Lomas Road NE. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery.

MARTINEZ -- ABELINO JR. Age 74, a resident of Ledoux, New Mexico for the past 15 years, and formerly of Albuquerque, New Mexico passed away on Monday, November 1, 2011 at his home. He was born on October 7, 1937 in Ledoux, New Mexico to Abelino Martinez Sr. and Feloniz Vigil Martinez. He worked for the United States Postal Service as a Clerk for 35 years. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He enjoyed spending time with his family and made numerous trips to Albuquerque, NM to attend birthday gatherings and other special days. He was an avid gardener, he enjoyed working with wood, fishing, cooking, playing pool and playing his guitar. He was a member of the St. Gertrude's Parish in Mora, New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents, Abelino and Feloniz Martinez; daughters, Michelle Martinez and Deanna Martinez; brothers, Leo Martinez and Feliciano Martinez; sister, Sencionita Lucier. MATHEWS -- DAVID RUSSELL Of Mt. Laurel, NJ died on October 26, 2011. David was the son of Floyd and Marilyn Mathews of Charlottesville VA. He is survived by: his two children, Ben and Evelyn Mathews of Mt. Laurel; his parents; his brother, Paul Mathews of Irvington NY; and sisters, Mary Beth and Ken Hughes of Williamsburg, VA and Sarah and Ken Davis of Denver, CO. An extended family of aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews also survive him. David, 42, was born and raised in Albuquerque, NM. He spent the past 15 years in the Mt. Laurel area. David had degrees in both computer science and business. He was a computer systems consultant. David was a lifelong Radio Controlled Airplane modeler. MILES -- FLORENCE "FLOSS" "FLOSKERS" Age 86, passed away Tuesday evening peacefully among loved ones at her home. She was a native of NY but moved to Texas and then NM with her husband William "Bill" and raised their four successful children, Jeff, Sue, Roy, and Gary, while also gaining an Associate degree, and working as a technician at GTE Lenkurt/Siemans in Alb. After retiring she worked at the Lomas Tramway Library as the first employee hired there. This was her favorite job. She was dedicated to her kids, always smiling with her twinkling baby blues, doing what's right, loved white water rafting with the library crew, and was a great supporter of Placitas Animal Rescue.

STEWART -- CECIL V. Age 92, a resident of Rio Rancho, affectionately known as "Granddad" by his family went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 2, 2011. He loved his church and his family very much. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were very special to Granddad. He is survived by his three children, Bill Stewart and wife, Diane of Colorado, and John Stewart and wife, Becky of Rio Rancho, and Janet Stewart of Rio Rancho; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Sarah Jean Stewart, one year ago. Cecil was one of five brothers born on September 6, 1919 in Bryan, TX to Milton and Hazel Stewart. He served his country in WWII on a mine sweeper in the Navy as Chief Quartermaster. It was during his time in the Navy that he met and married the former Sarah Jean Adams - our beloved "Gran". They were married for 67 years before she passed away in 2010. Granddad loved sports and would watch any sport, no matter how obscure it was, and enjoy it. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Albuquerque Senior Men's Golf Association after from the Corps of Engineers. Granddad was also a volunteer, along with his wife, Jean, at Presbyterian Hospital for many years. He was an active and devoted member of Harwood United Methodist Church and served there in many capacities during his life. Granddad sang for many happy years in the Harwood choir. STEWART -- DAVID A. Of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on October 28th 2011. He was born in Detroit, MI on November 15th, 1958 to Rev. Alexander Taylor Stewart and Edith Andersen Stewart and grew up in Clarkston, MI. Dave served his country overseas in the US Army as a communication specialist. He is survived by his daughter Claire Marie Stewart; sisters, Phyllis Frankoff and Joan Nudos; and brother Bruce Stewart. Dave wished to be cremated and there will be a family memorial in MI this summer. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Crystal Lake and Watershed Association at PO Box 89 Beulah, MI 49617.

TAYLOR -- VICTORIA STILLS "VICKY" 1951 - 2011 Age 59 of Bosque Farms, NM, lost her battle with cancer on November 3, 2011. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Lovelace Hospital. The daughter of Richard and Bonnie Stills of Martensdale, IA, Vicky graduated from Martensdale-St. Mary's school in 1970 and married Stanley Taylor on January 15, 1972. Vicky lived most of her younger life in Iowa and her married life in Texas and New Mexico. Vicky loved life, animals, the outdoors and children, helping the kids of the local 4-H and FFA programs. She always enjoyed spending the time she had with all. Vicky was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Bill Taylor of Panora, IA. She is survived by her loving husband, Stan Taylor of Bosque Farms, NM; son, Clayton Taylor and his wife, Stashia of Albuquerque, NM; daughter, Carrie Koonce and her husband, Jim of Ada, OK; parents, Richard and Bonnie Stills of Martendale, IA; brother, Bruce Stills of Martensdale, IA; sister. Judy Stills of Norwalk, IA; grandchildren, Riley and Emmett Koonce; numerous other family members and friends. A service to celebrate Vicky's life will be held at the Noblin Funeral Service Los Lunas Chapel, 2211-D Main St., on Monday, November 7 at 11:00 am. Burial will be in Iowa at a later date. THOMAS -- CHARLES GEORGE COL. USAF, (Ret) Age, 71, a resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, November 2, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Regina Marie Thomas of Albuquerque, NM; three children, Jennifer Harkins and husband, Brian of Boston, MA, Elizabeth Shriver and husband, Jesse of Las Vegas, NV, and Brian Thomas and partner, Drury Roberts of Lubbock, TX; grandchildren, Rachel and Emily Harkins and Amanda and Eric Charles Shriver; sister, Eileen Bikowicz and husband, Robert of Scotia, NY; brother, Lawrence Thomas and wife, Mary of Phoenix, AZ; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends. Colonel Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Thomas; and daughter, Carolyn Marie. He was born in 1940 in Manhattan, NY and was a graduate of the Air Force Academy, Class of 1961. Colonel Thomas married the former Regina Pitassy in October of 1965. He had various Air Force assignments, and received two Legion of Merits, an Air Medal and nine Vietnam Service Medals. Colonel Thomas flew over 7000 hours in several different aircraft, his favorite being the C-141. His final military assignment was Wing Commander of the 1606th Air Base Wing at Kirtland AFB from 1985 to 1988. After leaving the Air Force, Charlie worked for Governor Gary Carruthers as a Cabinet Secretary of the General Services Department. Col Thomas spent 13 years at Sandia National Laboratories before retiring. He was also on the board of the Albuquerque International Sunport; Past President of the Southwest Defense Alliance; a board member of the Air Force Association; was one of the original members of the Kirtland Partnership Committee which was responsible for the retention of Kirtland Air Force Base during BRAC; and for the past 20 years was Military Analyst for KOAT, Channel 7 in Albuquerque. In 2010, Col. Thomas received the Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce Steve Schiff Award. Charles was a member of John XXIII Catholic Community. Friends may visit French-Lomas Chapel Sunday, November 6, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday November 7, 2011, 11:00 am at John XXIII Catholic Community, 4831 Tramway Ridge Dr. NE, Albuquerque, with Father Arkad Bizak as Celebrant with a reception following at the church. Interment will take place at The Air Force Academy Cemetery in Colorado Springs, CO at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Kizito Elementary School in Mekenke, Uganda or St. Mary's High School in Eleneacita, Kenya in care of John XIII Catholic Community, 4831 Tramway Ridge Dr. NE.
